Duchess Kate told the Archbishop that Prince Louis is ‘very relaxed and peaceful’

The Duchess of Cambridge carries Prince Louis as they arrive for his christening service at the Chapel Royal, St James's Palace, London

Here are some photos from the christening of Prince Louis of Cambridge, which was held on Monday at the chapel in St. James’s Palace. Once again, the Duchess of Cambridge wore McQueen – this is a new dress which looks so much like about five other dresses in her closet. She’s really trying to bring back puffy shoulders and puffy sleeves. The Jane Taylor headpiece really does seem… odd. Odd for her face, odd for the occasion.

But really, people want to talk about Prince Lou and how he’s a very sleepy angel-baby. He seems to have very light coloring too, right? Just going from memory, it felt like it was pretty clear that Charlotte was always going to have brown hair, even when she was a baby? Whereas I think Prince Lou will have similar coloring to George – very light blonde hair which gets darker as he gets older, which is the same as William. Kate was overheard telling the Archbishop of Canterbury that Louis is “very relaxed and peaceful… I hope he stays like this.”

Here are more photos of Carole Middleton, Pippa Middleton (with Terribly Moderately Wealthy James Matthews) and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. I still like Meghan’s Ralph Lauren ensemble – chic, simple, but not too “look at me, I’m the star of this!” She knew Kate would be alpha-dogging so Meghan made the right choice.

Middleton women: go get a bra fitting!

  2. Belluga says:

Well they previously said George was loud and naughty and that Charlotte was a perfectly poised and ladylike… so based on this Louis is going to be a hellraiser!

  3. OriginalLala says:

is the white McQueen at every christening to not clash with the baby’s gown? seems like a lot of money to waste on the same dress three times

    • Digital Unicorn says:

I recently watched the new McQueen documentary and he would have never allowed Kate to wear his designs, esp as she likes to alter them. He was notoriously snobby about which celebs wore him. He’d be spinning in his grave at the thought of Kate and Butron turning his brand/vision into the bland coatdresses that she favours. Sarah Button was the wrong choice to take over. Sebastian Pons would have been a better choice.

      • Nic919 says:

She has another McQueen at the RAF today which is the exact same as the wedding outfit… except in light blue.

      • Mei says:

Exactly always my thought when I read that her boring clothes are McQueen. He was so truly visionary and this is the complete antithesis of everything he stood for.

      • homeslice says:

Yes, he never would have “allowed” the future Princess of Wales and Queen Consort of England wear his clothes. Are you for real? lol. If there are problems with McQueen it is hardly Kate’s fault. SMH

      • Digital Unicorn says:

@homeslice, i suggest you research Lee – he was not a fan of Royalty and once famously sewed an insult about Charles into the lining of a jacket when he worked on Saville Row. Lee did NOT care who you were and as I said he was notoriously snobby about who he allowed to wear his designs. Victoria Beckham was banned from his stores as he did not want her wearing anything of his.

      • homeslice says:

Yes, Posh Spice and the future Queen (consort) of England are so on the same level…

Anyway, Sarah Burton took the label in a different direction. I hardly think that is Kate’s doing.
If “Lee” was still at the helm, who knows if Kate would even like his designs??
Edit to add: If that is true about VB, then he was snobby as hell…pfft.

      • Milla says:

He was anti royal. But he wouldn’t be able to stop her from wearing his designs. They aren’t rented.
But if he was alive, no way Kate would wear his wedding dress.

Still i admire Sarah Burton. She did the impossible, she didn’t destroy his house and she found her direction. The fact that a commoner married future King was a big deal and Sarah stepped up.

      • Digital Unicorn says:

In the eyes of McQueen they were – he didn’t care for royalty or celebrity and would only design for people that he felt matched his creative vision. He designed the outfits for David Bowie’s 19967/97 tour and the outfit for Bjork’s ‘Homogenic’ album cover. He would never have designed for Kate, regardless of who she is.

Not sure why you have quotes around his name? His full name is Lee Alexander McQueen. Alexander McQueen is the brand, Lee McQueen is the man. I called him Lee as that is his name.

      • Addison says:

LOL VIctoria Beckham was Banned! I find this extremely funny. Made me chuckle during this stressful workday.

      • Wowsers says:

Lol digital unicorn are you psychic? Pretty amazing that he’s telling you from the grave who he would and wouldn’t design for! What did he say about Meghan, just out of curiosity?

  4. Maddy Gibney says:

Louis’ dress is so lovely! Agreed that Meghan made the right choice. I really like her style here, although I’m not convinced by that shade of green for a christening. Seems a bit odd.

  5. Jess says:

I’m glad this kid doesn’t have the ginger spencer genes. We’d get so many articles headline “AFFAIR!!!!!” 😩

  6. Thatsallfolks says:

    Headband on steroids.

  7. Runcmc says:

Good god Pippas dress! Also that pic of Kate with the baby makes her look like the scary mom from Coraline… I know that’s her natural smile, it’s a shame it reads as manic in pictures! Watching the video, her smile looks much softer.

    • LizB says:

Yes, in videos she is very nice with a lovely smile, but the pics they choose make her look unhinged. I think it might be on purpose.

      • Becks1 says:

I think she also looks that way because she was talking and laughing/chuckling with the archbishop, so her expression is going to look different from a posed smile.

  8. LizB says:

I know it’s me, but I look at Carole Middleton and think “boobs!”

I think Pippa’s dress is super unflattering. Is it maternity?

Everyone else looked fine, I thought. Love Megan’s dress and hair. Kate is “kate-ing”.

    Louis is a cute baby.

    • Vava says:

LOL………….as bad as Pippa’s dress is, her mother’s is equally awful.

    • arianna says:

I wasn’t fond of Meghan’s dress, it was too dark, especially as everyone else were dressed in light summer colors. Meghan has a very odd shape, some dresses look terrible on her, some look okay. Kate has the better body and wears othes much better, not fond of the puffy sleeve look, though.

  9. Seraphina says:

PL looks adorable. So sweet. Now on to gossip.

Agreed, that dress blends in with her other dresses and I’m sure came with a hefty price tag. And that headpiece looks like something out of medieval European Royalty fashion books. What was she thinking????

    Pippa also needed help.

MM looked great. She will find her way. I think the dress was a bit dark for summer and a royal christening but loved it over all and loved her hat.

The kids are really adorable and Kate looked very relaxed and happy. I will say I say up close pics of her and was startled to see how she has aged. I’m sure from the constant sun and whatever else she done. But it really struck me that her skin looks older than it should.

    • Wowsers says:

How old “should” her skin look?

      • Seraphina says:

@wowsers, I’m older than her by a half dozen years and don’t need have the lines she does. That is what I meant. While I understand genetics play a role and taking care of oneself, obviously she has not taken care of her skin. And she has money at her disposal to do so. What was striking is that the media has led us to believe she has flawless skin and now we see she doesn’t. It makes her more human.

    • Iknow says:

I thought the same thing. In the close-up pictures, her forehead and eye area look older than 36. Same goes for Pippa. As some have commented, it’s the years of sun bathing and smoking. But she looks happy. She looks like a proud and happy mother.

  10. SM says:

The baby is adorable. Isn’t Pippa pregnant? It seems it already is ages from the moment she annouced, and she still has a very small bump. Was she so thirsty she announced as soon as she peed on a stick?

    • Runcmc says:

Don’t forget Kate also carries small. Based on Kate’s pregnancies, it makes sense that Pippa wouldn’t show much til close to full term! The Middleton women are tall and thin and apparently carry small.

    • Jan90067 says:

Pips is due in October. She’s about 6 mos. Btwn exercise (strong muscles holding the uterus) and a long torso, you can hardly see a bump!

  11. Digital Unicorn says:

I much preferred hearing Char tell the press ‘you’re not coming’ and then stare them down as she flounces away. The Fail has a really cute video clip of it. I love that kid, she has personality.

I loved Megs outfit and why does Kate always wear white to the christenings? Is it a custom Or something?

Megs looks fab at the RAF event today, Kate looked like a middle aged housewife in one of her coat dresses next to her.

    • Lizabeth says:

Wearing white is Kate’s custom. Other royals haven’t done it. And really, when a different color is worn by the mother, the baby and ornate gown stand out more IMO. I’ve read comments saying Kate’s dress gives a clean background for the gown but I disagree. Her dress and the gown just blend together.

    • Vogue says:

I dont think it was directed at the photographers. If you watch the video Charlotte had her head turned backwards when she started to say “they’re not coming”. I think she was expecting to see some people behind her, perhaps some of the guests still inside the church

      • LizB says:

Yeah, it’s being set up as anti-photographer, but it’s not clear to me.

Thank God the world doesn’t judge me by what my 3 year old says and does LOL

      • Digital Unicorn says:

Probably but it was still fun to see her stare the paps down, the kid has confidence and is not fazed by them. I think it’s just the Fail trying to be cute and there is nothing mean about it.

  12. Becks1 says:

as I said yesterday, I don’t care for Kate’s headband, but the rest of the outfit looks nice. Very similar to her outfit from Charlotte’s, but still nice.

I liked Meghan’s outfit. I find the criticism over the color amusing. Before she wore too many neutrals, now the color isn’t quite right for the event, or whatever. She really cant win.

    • IlsaLund says:

@Becks1….totally agree. Meghan can never win….lol. Whatever color she wears, someone will find fault with it. I loved her outfit and especially the color.

    • Maria says:

I loved Meghan’s outfit. Green wouldn’t look good on everyone but it looks good on her. And I loved that she has matching shoes and clutch, and even gloves. Nice touch although I doubt she needed them.

  13. Jane says:

Kate looks manically happy and my theory is she loves being a mom and with Prince Louis she can dote on him for longer since he isn’t the heir or the spare.

  14. Eleonor says:

Meghan please stop with too much makeup.

  15. kate says:

The baby looks really cute, so does Meg altough I would not wear that to a christenning. Pippa is… well. Carole looks good and appropriate, as usual. Kate, well, at least she looked very happy, which is more than I would have been able to do if that monstruosity had landed on my hair.

  16. LizB says:

The Cambridges are really dedicated to their brand. We never see George and Charlotte in anything else, besides the wedding. And that must mean they have the same things in multiple sizes!

    • ChillyWilly says:

Right? I wish she would put them in something different once in a while.

    • minx says:

I would, and did, go crazy dressing my daughter when she was that age. There are so many adorable outfits we could be seeing, come on! Change it up!

    • homeslice says:

I think it’s done purposely, maybe to limit the interest in the kids? Like waiting to see what they wear, like we love to see what Meg an Kate wear. It’s like their standard uniform or something.

    • c8c8c8 says:

That is intentional. They don’t want what their children wear to become commercialized like you see North West doing. This was explained when George was born.

      • LizB says:

There is a happy medium between North West and having them in the same thing all the time. Look at the other European royal children, for god’s sake.

  17. Birdie says:

Tf is Pippa wearing? Awful! Her husband can be really lovely I guess, but he looks 50. Meghan made the perfect color choice, very muted, still classy. Kate looks like any other occasion. Everything seems the same.

  18. Mariposa says:

That drop-waist coupled with the saggy boob pockets on Pippa’s dress is…an interesting look. Sort of like an optical illusion!

    • damejudi says:

It is spectacularly unflattering. Is this the same designer who made Kate’s-mess-of-a-dress for Pippa’s wedding?

  19. Maria says:

The best one of the lot is Camilla.

  20. Maria says:

    James Matthews looks good.

  21. BendyWindy says:

That’s third baby love. I love all my kids, of course, but by the time number three came along, I felt confident and settled and ready to handle anything and it just made her babyhood such a relaxed and happy time.

    • Moneypenny424 says:

That’s how I feel about our second child (now a year old and 5 years younger than her sister). It is so much easier the second time around, we (mostly) know what we are doing and we are so happy. She brings pure joy!

  22. Wowsers says:

    I know, its nonsense

  23. Enn says:

How does someone “alpha-dog” their own child’s christening? The baby and the parents are pretty much the main players.

    • minx says:

Oh, I know. I’m not Kate’s biggest fan but sometimes it gets ridiculous.

      • homeslice says:

I think it’s hard for the stans, because they are so wrapped up in everything Meg does, to understand that Kate probably doesn’t give a rip. She’s at home with her kids in the summer. It doesn’t get any better than that. Love my time with my kids.

      • Maria says:

        I agree.

      • Lorelei says:

@Homeslice I disagree. If that were the case, she wouldn’t have been at the RAF ceremony today, as usual. But there she is, choosing to be photographed, instead of home with her kids. She did not want all of the pics to be of William, Harry, and Meghan!

      • homeslice says:

oh Lorelei, but just a couple weeks ago she was enjoying a polo match with her kids and people were saying if she could do that, she could do an official engagement. She can’t win. I just doubt she cares, just like I doubt Meg cares about what anyone thinks about them. They are both extremely lucky, rich, pampered women.

      • minx says:

People complain that Kate doesn’t work. So, she did.

      • M.A.F says:

And then she shows up and they say she did it on purpose.

      • perplexed says:

“She did not want all of the pics to be of William, Harry, and Meghan!”

Diana attend these events with Charles. It doesn’t seem strange to me Kate would attend.

Eventually Diana did solo events for her patronages when she was distant from her husband and they had separate “courts”, but at these kinds of events I think they usually attend as couples. Even when Diana and Charles were fighting they’d appear in public together at these things.

I also think Diana’s hats were bigger than anything I’ve seen either Kate or Meghan wear on top of their heads. Her hats suited her though, unlike whatever the York sisters wore to Kate’s wedding (yikes, those hats were ugly, like Medusa’s snakes had sprouted all over their heads).

      • minx says:

If Kate is feeling more compelled to work because of Meghan, I say great. Who cares why she is doing it? The end result is the same. Win/win.
They are all spoiled poodles anyway.

    • KiddV says:

I assumed “alpha-dog” was tongue in cheek.

We all know the real alpha-dog is Charlotte. She’s the star.

      • homeslice says:

The truth. That little girl is the best. For some reason she reminds me of my own daughter at that age. Always something going on…lol.

      • Original T.C. says:

I love how Charlotte held her right arm tightly to her side in an attempt to prevent herself from waving to the pressure . I could see flickers of the right hands tempted to wave! She is such a natural crowd pleaser and had to fight against her natural tendency, very adorable and mature!! She is a he Prince Harry of their family 🙂

  24. KiddV says:

Kate matched her shoes to the Christening gown. I wonder if that was on purpose. I’m not crazy about her dress, but as I stated above, I love the hat-thingy.

Love Meghan’s outfit. I’m a fan of olive green, and the dress fits her well. I friggin’ LOVE her shoes. They’re so rich looking. Not a fan of her hat. Reminds me of Diane Keaton in Godfather.

  25. minx says:

I wish we could see more head-on pix of Louis, from what I can see he’s adorable.

  26. AtlLady says:

I will give Pippa a pass on her dress. She may have tried it on two days before and it fit perfectly but your body can change so quickly when pregnant.

  27. Nikki says:

I think the body language between Pippa and her husband is a little sad. They haven’t been married long, and she’s pregnant with their first child; don’t you think they’d be holding hands, or at least closer to each other, going in to a christening? She held her clutch in the hand between them. Hopefully just coincidence, and I’m a snuggler!

    • liriel says:

Seriously if they did a display of affection it would be commented on as well. Frankly, I would abstain from doing anything to draw attention to myself if forced to show up to such a public event. It’s not that hard not to hold hands for an hour or so.

  28. Laura says:

Catherine and baby Louis are beautiful ❤

  29. Addison says:

Pippa’s dress I don’t like. Carole’s I would like more if it did not have those things hanging on the front. Megan’s would be better except for the color. Wrong for the occasion. Can’t say about Kate because the baby was covering most of her outfit. I think I remember seeing Camilla’s but I don’t think I cared for it.
