Johnny Depp is being sued for punching a crew member in the ribs

Johnny Depp arriving at the Hotel Eden

Here are those photos of Johnny Depp looking profoundly unwell in Rome again. He’s still touring with The Hollywood Vampires, and I believe this tour has not been the healthiest experience for him. He’s gone from looking bad to looking like he’s got one foot in the grave. Perhaps the Rolling Stone article’s reference to “the last days of Elvis” isn’t far off. Note: I’m not saying I want that to happen, at all. I’m honestly hoping that Depp gets some kind of significant wakeup call and pulls himself out of this downward spiral.

Until that moment comes, it’s worth discussing this latest mess. A month ago, Page Six had a report about Depp’s terrible behavior on the set of LAbryinth, where Depp plays the real-life detective who investigated Biggie’s murder. Page Six reported that Depp was an utter nuisance on the set, that he had his entourage there at all times and they were causing a commotion. Depp also tried to direct his own scenes and he thought he could bully people around. When one crew member told him to wrap on a scene in a particular location (a location where they had already overstayed), Depp screamed in the guy’s face and then punched the guy in the ribs. Depp’s rep denied the incident vaguely at the time, telling Page Six: “Johnny Depp is a consummate professional, great collaborator and a supporter of other artists. He always treats the crew and people around him with the utmost respect. Movies can be stressful, and nonevents often become exaggerated. We all love stories — there isn’t one here.” Guess what?

A film crew member is alleging in a lawsuit that Johnny Depp twice punched him on the Los Angeles set of a movie about the killing of the Notorious B.I.G. The lawsuit filed Friday in Los Angeles County Superior Court by location manager Gregg “Rocky” Brooks also claims that he was fired from the movie, called City of Lies, when he refused to sign papers saying he wouldn’t sue over the incident.

Brooks alleges that in April 2017, the movie’s director forced him to inform Depp that an upcoming shot would have to be the day’s last. The lawsuit says Depp screamed obscenities at Brooks and punched him twice in the ribs, then offered him $100,000 to punch back.

Messages left with Depp representatives seeking comment were not immediately returned.

Yep. As it turns out, Page Six had the story right and Depp’s rep – who is probably that shady Russian-adjacent dude – was just straight-up lying. Anyway, none of this is surprising. Scratch that – there’s only surprising part to this story: Depp is still being hired for anything. That’s shocking when you think about it.

This does not surprise me. He’s totally out of control. What gets me is why hasn’t there been an intervention? Or…if there was one, what went wrong?

    • Shambles says:

He has no one to intervene. There is no one around him who isn’t being paid to be there. He has no money left for his sister, who seems like a shady person, so she’s not around anymore. It’s deeply sad.

    • Lady D says:

Interventions, despite what you see on TV, rarely work.

  2. Babs says:

Well, to me he looks better than usual (that’s not saying much) and he seems to be the same a-hole as ever. I’m not buying that last-days narrative. It’s just a pity show.

    • Milla says:

Some friends of mine saw them live and got to meet the band. Said Depp was nice and very friendly. Which i believe he was cos he’s high as a kite.

I believe he did try to punch a guy but can he actually punch a grown up? Looks weak and very prince Philip like.

  3. Eleonor says:

Whatever it is, it’s not going to end well.

  4. Cidy says:

Why anyone, at this point, would want him on a set – I dont know. Dude is a toxic liability.

    • Milla says:

I believe its jackyl hyde situation. He can be nice yet no one knows when is he gonna explode. He’s gone too far with drugs and alcohol.

  5. cr says:

If they don’t want treatment, they’re not going to accept intervention.

  6. kate says:

Good. Hopefully, the crew member is a white man so people will actually take him seriously. But with Deep’s deluded fangirls, you never know.

  7. Cidy says:

Why anyone at this point would want him on a set is beyond me. Dude is a toxic liability.

  8. SJhere says:

He looks like Death Warmed Up in that photo. All these stories about him lately, he’s in his early 50’s, grow up already, jackass. At his age he knows what his choices will cost him. So, it’s completely on him if he goes down in flames. Way too many people around him have enabled this jerk to get away with terrible behaviours for decades. Zero sympathy from me.

  9. Nanny to the rescue says:

I’ve read somewhere he’s getting thin for a role of a cancer patient. That would explain the bad health look (and I hope it’s really that, not him slowly deteriorating).

That aside, his behaviour is out of hand. He needs to be properly punished for his actions. He’s only getting slaps on the wrist and that obviously isn’t working.

    • Kate says:

That sounds like a totally fabricated excuse by his fans who don’t want to admit that what they see is real. Depp doesn’t do dramatic real human roles anymore. Unless – is it a vampire cancer patient? lol – feel free to gloat if I’m wrong but I just doubt it. I think the only role he is playing now is a drug-abusing rock star.

      • tealily says:

Although I could totally see him doing some sh–ty movie about a drug abusing rock start.

  10. Sash says:

Remember when Amber Heard was totally a gold digger and totally making up those claims of violence? How’d that work out, Johnny Depp fans?

    • kate says:

They are still insulting her, because they have no shame and dignity, like their idol.

    • True says:

Even after the Metoo the white male powerful guys keep their power and defenders, it is always the speaking voice ( victim) that will be judged and trashed around.
This addicted is still being defended and praised by double standards like JK Rowling how amazing he is when she is so loud about injustices, it is Hollywood self claps morality.

  11. Snowflake says:

Its just ridiculous all the excuses/passes his fans give him. Last time i think he was decent in a movie was alice in wonderland. Hes lucky he’s still hired

    • Shijel says:

Alice in Wonderland was not a decent movie, not by a longshot. I’d say his last decent movie was Public Enemies, really. In 2009.

  12. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

His clothing and accessories always say so much about him. He’s a narcissistic, insecure, douchebag asshole with no self control. Quit hiring this dead man walking. It only feeds the wolf.

  13. FilmTurtle says:

The comedian Louis Virtel had a great response: Depp will be punished and sentenced to at least 10 or 15 more lead roles.

  14. Mrs. Peel says:

I’d like to sue him for assault – he’s an assault on my senses.

  15. themummy says:

This is off topic, but let’s talk about Amber Heard for a second. (I know, kind of random, but tangentially related maybe, but I saw someone mention her in a comment above and it make me think of this).

So she’s dating Vito Schnabel now. I see all kinds of pap photos of the two of them and I have noticed that she is NEVER smiling in any of them, her body language seems off, and she looks utterly miserable. Obviously, I know nothing of their relationship, but I have been consistently noticing this every time I see photos of them. ‘I’m not suggesting he’s abusive or anything, but she truly looks miserable around him. Anyone have a read on that or an opinion?

    • silliness says:

I’ve noticed! I’m hoping the relationship runs its course soon. She hardly ever looks happy to be out with him. He never waits for her or opens her door; he’s so inattentive. Plus he looks like such a schmuck.
