Emily Blunt in black and white Christian Dior: retro cool or too old-fashioned?

Emily Blunt and John Krasinski - Benefit Gala in NYC
Emily Blunt is a lovely woman, who has had her hits and misses on the red carpet. I don’t know about you, but I think she added another look to the “hit” column on Monday night. Emily served as host for the American Institute for Stuttering 12th annual gala at Guastavino’s in New York City. She channeled classic Hollywood glam in a vintage-inspired dress from Christian Dior’s Resort 2019 collection.

The simple cap-sleeved, A-line dress featured a white polka dot sheer tulle overlay with delicate floral appliques in black. She accessorized with dramatic drop earrings from Lorraine Schwartz and strappy sandals by Gianvito Rossi. She framed her face with a halo braid, which showed off her natural makeup palette.

Emily’s handsome hubby, John Krasinski, was also in attendance, complementing his wife’s look with a dark suit and tie. I love that guy, but I wish he wasn’t still hanging on to that facial hair. He’s so cute when he’s clean-shaven. Just my two cents.

The evening served as a pre-anniversary date night for the couple, who celebrated their sixth wedding anniversary yesterday. They were married in 2010 in Como, Italy and are the proud parents to two daughters – Hazel, 4, and Violet, who turned 2 last week.

I don’t know about you, but I love this look – maybe because it looks like something a non-celebrity like myself could get away with (the cheap, knock-off version of it. Wardrobe-wise, I have Dior tastes and an H&M budget). The dress is so delicate and pretty. I also like the updo and think it was a wise choice to forego a necklace and let those earrings make a statement. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, John and Emily are such a cute couple. I’m hoping they share the screen again in the near future.

Too old fashioned. It looks like a 1700’s nightgown lmao.

  2. BaronSamedi says:

I really love it but I think the color washes her out a bit because she’s blonde? I prefer her as a red-head.

    • Snazzy says:

Yes I prefer her as a redhead as well. And, as ever, I hate those bloody strappy sandals. But I do love the dress. Beautiful in it’s simplicity

      • Milla says:

Those sandals are like the biggest summer trend… I like the look very bohemian, until the sandals.

        Also i want her husband.

      • AnnaKist says:

Finally! A pox on those bloody scrappy shoes! Positively every celebrity has been wearing them! I loathe them.. I love, love this dress. She looks lovely, If a bit washed out. I mean, this is coming from someone who doesn’t follow any celebrities. Everything I do know, I learned on this site. Is her hair naturally red? Her husband is yummy, and worth lusting over…

I don’t know how anyone wears soles that thin! lol. Makes my feet hurt just looking at them!

I think, other than her hair (which I really hate, too “milk-maidy), she looks lovely. I love the dress; I would wear it in a heartbeat. Looks cool and floaty for a hot summer evening. Makeup looks great, too.

  3. Lightpurple says:

I like it and would wear something like that. It’s pretty.

  4. fortune100 says:

I like the dress and love them as a couple! And I agree, that facial hair is doing him no good.

  5. Seraphina says:

She looks great. I think her hair and makeup were spot on and helped complete the look. Love her and John and love them as couple.

  6. Redgrl says:

I like it & agree she should go back to red hair.

  7. smcollins says:

She looks lovely and John looks good, beard and all. They make such a cute couple.

Side note: If they married in 2010 then they’d be celebrating their eighth anniversary, not sixth. Did you mean to type 2012? Just caught my attention.

  8. Digital Unicorn says:

I love the dress but not necessarily the way she’s been styled and I love Emily.

  9. Anne says:

Isn’t that 8 years of marriage then?

  10. Who ARE these people? says:

Someone recently told me Blunt overcame a stuttering problem through involvement with drama. If so that explains her presence here.

  11. Stacey says:

She looked great until the last picture with those awful, baggy-eyed glasses.

    • Who ARE These People? says:

As someone old enough to need bi and tri focals – i.e. ‘progressive’ lenses – I welcome the return to larger frames. It’s very hard to squeeze all the necessary corrections into a tiny frame and I’m always tilting my head just-so to get to the right place. Especially hard when driving, especially hard on shorter people (IE women). The big frames in the 80s indeed felt ridiculous, but they have their uses. As baby boomers get older, we’ll probably see more age-friendly styles like these.

  12. MellyMel says:

She looks great and I would wear this as well! I love her updo too!

  13. Louisa Wright says:

I absolutely love that dress! She is so pretty I usually don’t even notice what she’s wearing but this looks beautiful.

  14. Becks1 says:

I think she looks really lovely here. Love the dress.

  15. Other Renee says:

I think she looks lovely. Love the dress AND the shoes.

  16. Originaluna says:

I just watched the Devil Wears Prada last weekend and wow.. perspective.
It’s a great movie yes but I found myself relating a little more with Emily than Andrea. I think Andrea is a brat and rude.
But I digress. I think she looks lovely. Still wish she would dye her hair brown again, it really favors her.

  17. phlyfiremama says:

She looks amazing. I would have pegged the dress for a vintage Schiaparelli. I love the bias cut look on dresses a lot~they are so flattering!

  18. raincoaster says:

I would kill for that dress. It’s gorgeous. The braid makes it mumsy though. The shoes are perfect.

  19. Ladiabla says:

She looks so pretty here. Love the dress, jewelry, and hair. I’ve always wanted to do something like that with a braid, but with my round face, somebody would probably tell me to go milk a cow or something.
