Gah! I thought it that was Pennywise!

  2. Jenns says:

According to reporters, Trump was most looking forward to having a photo op with the Queen.

And then the indictments dropped at the same time.

    LOL. Happy Friday.

    • Louisa Wright says:

According to Rosenstein Trump knew about the indictments before he left the country. So when he told reporters that the meeting with Putin would be the easiest of them all this week he already knew that 12 Russians were being indicted. Wouldn’t a normal president, under normal circumstances have canceled the meeting at that point, not claim that it was going to be “easy”.

  3. Elias says:

    Does it tho…?

  4. Louisa Wright says:

I thought it looked dreadful. I mean to the point of being comical. And I was so looking forward to it.

    • tracking says:

Agreed, looks bad. Above all the casting. And I have always found their history fascinating.

    • Elisa says:

You are not alone, it looks awful.

      • Bros says:

Strange, the movie with helen mirren (elizabeth?) has Elizabeth executing mary queen of scotts when they are both much much older than these two actresses.

    • Ms. Blake says:

Yeah, barf. Looks like one of those Amazon published Tudor romance novels/erotica come to life.

    • em says:

Same old rubbish , very little real history. Elizabeth and Mary never met in person for one thing.

      • Snappyfish says:

I was coming here to say just that.
They never met. Was Mary impressed with her superiority, yes as she considered Elizabeth illegitimate. However when offered back to her son, James VI then James I he was “I’m good you can keep her”

  5. Lula says:

Amazing, really? Mary was basically French, why is she taking mostly in english with a (bad) Scottish accent? And she and Elizabeth never ever met. Pass.

    • Here or there says:

Yep, so Mary was almost more French than Scottish. Pass.

    • sara says:

I think Samantha Morton played her with a Scottish accent too in Elizabeth: The Golden Age (also a ridiculous movie and a poor sequel to the excellent Elizabeth: The Virgin Queen).

  6. Shambles says:

I just got back from the Scotland and England, and having heard many stories about these two, I’m really looking forward to this.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

Am Scottish so am glad you loved it – Edinburgh is my fave city in the world and i have seen a few. The castle is amazing, the Edinburgh Military Tattoo is fab for anyone who has the chance to see it.

  7. babypeanut says:

Why are second cousins being referred to as sisters? I think it looks good but I feel for Robbie having to follow in the footsteps of Cate Blanchett.

    • LizB says:

It was common for kings of different countries to call each other “brother” as a sign of respect and friendship among rulers. Ruling queens used to do the same. It doesn’t mean they actually thought they were biological sisters.

  8. Jamie42 says:

The film looks surprisingly awful, in so many ways. And yes, people are going to say “Pennywise.” Misfire for both women.

I highly recommend Cate Blanchett in Elizabeth. That film had a few historical errors as well (as the many errors we see in this trailer), but got the tone right.

  9. WendyNerd says:

Already dislike it. Mary was raised in France, yet they give her a Scottish accent. Also, she and Elizabeth were never really friends. Mary was calling herself the Queen of England while still in France. She was actually a pretty awful person overall.

    • Div says:

Yep, and also Mary was basically willing to bend over backwards for her husband (s). There was a ton of misogyny of course, but there were some real reasons for Scottish people to be angry with her with the power she was willing to give to her consort/s among other things. She was also considered to not be very smart, especially compared to Elizabeth.

Also, religion was such a big factor and it’s barely mentioned in the trailer.

      • WendyNerd says:

Precisely. Really, all Mary EVER had to do was mind her own business, run her country, have babies, and wait, and she would have had England. Instead she committed a bunch of murders and continually fucked over her people and herself.

  10. Digital Unicorn says:

Am all for Margot Robbie as QE1 and David Tennant as John Knox the religious nutjob who hated Mary. Mary is just as much as an interesting character as Elizabeth was and am glad she’s finally gotten her own movie – its been a long time in the making. Wasn’t ScarJo supposed to be playing Mary at some point?

I could get picky on the historical accuracy i.e. Mary’s accent (this is a hot topic with historians – did she speak with a French lilt or not?) and the fact that Mary and Elizabeth never even met. Also the real Mary was a weak woman, not very intelligent and a terrible leader, she was only interested in finding a handsome husband who she would do anything to make happy and that included taking their advice in ruling the country.

    • woodstock_schulz says:

I think the casting looks interesting, as both women are pretty good actresses.

However, I agree that Mary Queen of Scots would have likely have had a French accent, as she was raised in France (came back to Scotland after her husband Francois II passed away) her mother was also French (Marie de Guise) and while in France she was heavily influenced by her mothers’ male relatives.

Also, the two second cousins never met, although they did exchange letters.

    • sara says:

ScarJo already helped tank a Tudor drama with The Other Boleyn Girl. God, they butchered what was a great book.

  11. Marianne says:

I dont think it looks bad. I think Saoirse looks wonderful in it. Im not convinced on Margot yet. I think The Favourite (another period piece coming out this year) looks far more interesting.

  12. LizB says:

It looks riddled with historical inaccuracies and outright fabrications. I will watch it anyways, complaining the whole time.

  13. saltandpepper says:

    Looks amazing, can’t wait.

  14. PBAN says:

Looks good. I love Period Pieces so I may check it out.

  15. Melania says:

The Mary Queen of Scots trailer looks tragic. Awful, really awful

  16. Katebush says:

I love that period in history and will watch anything related to it BUT they never even met so that puts me off straightaway.

  17. Happy21 says:

I think it looks pretty amazing and I usually never watch period pieces.

  18. Clairej says:

Haven’t watched trailer yet. But i hate when they make historical things up. Just me being picky. I can’t even watch ‘Anne with an E’ because they have made up so much rubbish and mucked about with my beloved ‘Anne of Green Gables’. Mary’s life was so crazy insane they could have made a perfectly accurate story and it would have been amazing.

  19. FilmTurtle says:

Who passed the rule that we a new movie or TV show about the same five or six British royal figures every eight months? CAN WE RELAX IT ALREADY? JFC.

  20. Natalia says:

You’re not being picky. Nowadays we are forced to watch for the acting and not the actual history. Maddening and crazymaking. I probably won’t see this, just as I have skipped many other movies for the same reason.

  21. cate says:

I’m sorry but this looks AWFUL. saoirse e is a talented actress, but margot not so much. she is overrated and this production looks like a disaster. yikes

  22. Nancy says:

This looks like a promo for “It” which scared the pejesus out of me….pass. I don’t know if I would select either of these two women (Saoirse, rather young, and Robbie looked deranged) says I, whose grandparents were born in Edinburgh.

  23. Seraphina says:

Robbie was an interesting choice and I’m curious how well she did. Can’t wait. Tailor looks AWESOME!!!! Yay!!!!

  24. Evie says:

Cate Blanchett was terrific as Elizabeth I. Another really good movie about the rivalry between Elizabeth and Mary Queen of Scots was the 1971 film starring Vanessa Redgrave as Mary and Glenda Jackson as Elizabeth. Oscar winners Redgrave and Jackson were at the peak of their careers and gave wonderful performances. As with most movies, there were a couple of historical inaccuracies. Mainly that movie depicted two meetings between them — which of course never happened but added to the drama. But it accurately shows that Mary led with her heart — which ultimately led to her beheading and Elizabeth was an intelligent, canny operator who successfully dodged assassination plots and the Spanish Armada to rule England for 40 years. She was extremely distressed when Cecil finally ordered Mary’s beheading after the Scottish Queen was implicated in a plot to kill Elizabeth following years of captivity/house arrest in a remote castle.

  25. Mary says:

    Looks interesting,.
As a young queen she got smallpox which did scar her face but not badly, she resorted to makeup and wigs to try to cover her age,
Historical fact : Queen Elizabeth I and Mary Queen of Scots never met in person, they corresponded only.

  26. 2020vision says:

This film doesn’t look good at all. Margot isn’t good with accents. She sounds Aussie here, not British (I’m Aussie).

  27. Madpoe says:

Problem is I can only see Helen Mirren and Cate Blanchett as the Queen.
I like Saoirse but I’m on the fence with this.
