Jessica Simpson’s NYC street style involves ’90s jeans, giant purses & leopard print

Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson head back to their hotel after a night out in NYC

Jessica Simpson and her husband Eric Johnston have been in New York this week. Sidenote: I honestly had to stop for a moment and try to remember Eric’s name, and I was going to just call him Blargh McBlandFace but then his real name came to me. Every couple of months, Jessica seems to pop up in New York, and I would imagine that it has something to do with her fashion line, but what do I know. What happens is that we get daily pap strolls and “date night” photos with some regularity. These are just some photos from this week’s pap strolls and date nights.

Can I just say? I hate all of these outfits except for the jeans-ensemble one. I would wear that entire jean-ensemble except for the jacket. I would leave the jacket at home and keep everything else. I actually love those jeans, which I know makes me sound so dated and unfashionable, but I’m still here for g–damn bootcuts and straight-legs. The skinny-jeans and the tapered jeans need to STAHP. The leopard print dress is… too low-cut, or maybe Jessica’s girls just can’t be contained. The yarn-like extensions need to go too.

Some say Jessica is a mess. I say Jess is living her best life. She’s got a “kept husband” who adores her and is a hands-on dad to their kids. They go on date nights all the time. Jess eats whatever she wants and drinks however much she wants. Maybe I’m actually sort of jelly of Jessica Simpson, who would have thought.

Eek that’s so bad it’s actually good.

  2. Sansa says:

She’s beautiful and has everything a women could want, except the crazy dad, but whose perfect?

  3. Clementine says:

I am like Jessica–a constant yo-yo on the weight. It can be frustrating to dress when you are constantly up and down but…man…I’ve got to say I would not put on one piece of clothing from these pics except for the jeans and MAYBE the second bag…that is IT.

  4. Lisa says:

I’m all for people wearing what they want, but this look is an eyesore.

  5. Katy says:

Why does she feel the need to pull up her dress while strolling in front of the cameras?

  6. Tiffany says:

Every since her falling out with Ken Paves, Jessica has not had a good hair day. She needs to call him.

  7. CurlyWurly says:

Her legs look so strong. She doesn’t need to hide behind all that fake hair, I think it drags her down. I agree, she is living her life – good for her. (I think the jeans are awful, it’s so weird when you can’t see any shoe at all)

    • whatWHAT? says:

      that’s what I noticed – THOSE LEGS!

but I also wish she’d ditch those awful extensions and that yellow/white color. she’s so pretty but she needs to darken her hair a bit and stop with the heavy black kohl eyeliner.

the one thing that I DO NOT UNDERSTAND is her jeans line. like, she’s short…so why are all of her jeans made for people who are at least 5′ 7″? Some of her jeans are really cute but I couldn’t find a pair that wasn’t several inches past my feet. even the so-called “petites”.

(I also hate the “hidden shoes” look with jeans. it’s like, “buy some jeans that fit you!”)

    • Mel M says:

I don’t understand the hidden-shoes-jeans ala Victoria Beckham thing either. I don’t like bootcut at all anymore either. I know a lot of people hate skinny jeans but I’m still here for them. They are so much easier to stick into booties or knee high boots in the fall/winter and they look better in flats to me and that’s my mom uniform that I can dress up or down. I live in an area that is only about three months of nice warm weather so fall/winter clothes are a lot more important to me.

    I love her Genesis t-shirt!

  9. Amelie says:

No all these outfits are terrible but that’s Jessica’s style for you. I also am not fond of light wash jeans. I get it’s personal preference and I like the pastel colors that come out in the spring/summer but I think the darker the better! I also really hate the current trend of ripped jeans, I don’t get why you would pay money for pants with holes. It’s not fashionable and just looks stupid. I realize I’m 30 and probably sound like an old lady but ripped jeans were in for a bit in the 90s and as a kid I hated the trend even then.

    • Mel M says:

I’m in my mid thirties and I remember thinking the same thing, “why are you paying so much money for Jeans that look trashed?!”. I actually have one pair that I just got this year that are distressed at the knees and the bottoms but not like the big open gaping holes where you can see your entire knee or anything. I also have a pair of distressed shorts that are more distressed, high waisted and light wash and look 80s and I LOVE them!!! I never thought in a million years I would like these but I love them both, they are both high waisted which momma needs and I’m so glad that’s back in and I could get rid of my ridiculous low rise/hip huggers. I got both on sale as well so didn’t need to spend much. I have plenty of jeans and shorts that aren’t distressed at all so I like having a different option.

I’ve always thought she was gorgeous and still do, but the fake hair length, dark tan and uncontained boobs are a little aging now. Her legs are super toned but the chest with her awful outfits makes her look so much bigger than she really is. Man I love those comfortable 90s jeans. Keep trying to being them back for all of us, Jess!!!!!

  11. Beth says:

I wear bootcut and straight leg jeans but hate skinny jeans, and I never thought cheap, Peggy Bundy leopard print looked good on anyone

  12. IMUCU says:

I’m all for straight leg and boot-cut pants too. Actually I’ve bought leggings in both cuts and they tend to be the ones I wear the most, lol. Just more comfortable to have a little air flow in sweltering Florida!

  13. Biting Panda says:

Whenever I find myself about to criticize her style choices, I remember that she is basically Dolly Parton 2.0, and I let it slide.

  14. Andrea says:

I’m not crazy about the hair extensions but I don’t mind the dress, with boots and coat. I think that would be a cute fall look. I’m not a animal print kinda person. But no shame to people that love it. I love jeans…period. Skinny, boot cut, mom jeans…love it all.

  15. Erinn says:

I’ve never understood leopard print. I personally can’t stannndddd it. I’ve never seen a piece and not thought of Peggy Bundy.

  16. Leapin' Lizards! says:

She seems very petite and the proportions in her clothing choices always look off to me – giant sunglasses, huge handbag, extensions that are way too long – it all has the effect of making her look stumpy when she isn’t.

  17. P says:

That hair ruins all of her outfits, too cheap

  18. Nancy says:

I keep waiting to find something nice to say this am on the threads, but its’ difficult. Found one, Jimi Hendrix on her husband’s shirt. That’s about it.

  19. minx says:

I’m sorry, she looks horribly trashy.

  20. holly hobby says:

Those outfits are atrocious. Just for that she should close down her line of fashion. The Barbie hair is bad too.

I don’t know when this happened but if they take a photo of her from a full face vantage point, she looks weird (fillers? natural fat? What is it? I can’t put my finger on it). However that sideshot (the thigh high boot pics) she looks like her old self. Strange.

  21. Mar says:

What happened to her? She looks like she’s been on serious meds mixed with alcoholism. Im sorry but I speak the truth

    • Jessica Pollan says:

Go read the Lipstick Alley Tea Thread on her by someone who’s best friend is a part of Jessica’s inner circle.

This was after her appearance on Ellen back in May 2017.

Just go to Google and type in Jessica Simpson Lipstick Alley Tea and the thread should pop right up.

  22. bella says:

Just one question–how do she and her husband get that tan??? All of her outfits are a big no for me. I remember several–many years ago she was wearing Mom jeans and got so much hate for it, and now they are a thing, and I love them. I am pretty tall and for some reason they give me a shape when I really don’t have one!

  23. Abby says:

I would love it if she wouldn’t use those massive gross extensions. She would look so much better without them.

I like her, love her products, but her style makes me laugh.

  24. StellainNH says:

Jessica really needs to do something about her hair. It’s awful. She would look so much better if she got rid of the extensions and went for a shorter, flattering do.

  25. Maiglöckchen says:

Somewhere, classy and kind Dolly Parton is weeping at the comparison. Dolly owns her look and I sense that Jessica takes herself seriously enough to find this ensemble sexy. I find Jessica more Tammy Faye Bakker meets TLC’s My Big Fat American Gypsy Wedding.

  26. Jessica Pollan says:

She needs to quit the drugs/pill popping and alcohol drinking.

That is why she looks constantly bloated.

  27. Tessa Squire says:

She looks a hot mess but hey? why not.

  28. meh says:

She looks like she’s about 65 years old and spends her free time playing VLTs in diners.

  29. Clairej says:

She could be so absolutely stunning. So naturally pretty it’s a shame. Change her hair and get a decent stylist and she would be amazing. Sorta tacky but gorgeous
