Is this weekend going to be full of royal tabloid drama & smear campaigns?

It’s Friday, December 7th, and I’m bracing myself for yet another weekend full of royal drama. It seemed to start over the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend, two weeks ago exactly. Suddenly there were a million leaks about how the Duchess of Sussex was a terrible diva who made Kate cry and bitched out Kate’s staff and was just so angry and horrible. Last weekend was full of drama too. So will this weekend have a dozen more anti-Meghan leaks, or did the two-week smear campaign serve its purpose? I honestly don’t know. We’ll see.

For now, I’m just catching up some royal stories that fell through the cracks this week, all of them about the Duchess of Cambridge. Did you know that Kate took Charlotte on a special mother-daughter outing in London?

Kate Middleton and Princess Charlotte took part in a beloved Christmas tradition: attending a performance of The Nutcracker! The royal mother-daughter duo left the boys of the family – Prince William, 5-year-old Prince George and 7-month-old Prince Louis – at home and got an early sneak peek of the Royal Opera House’s take on the classic ballet, attending a pre-rehearsal performance last week.

Both the Royal Opera House and Kate’s office at Kensington Palace had no comment when reached by PEOPLE. Earlier this year, William revealed that dancing is Charlotte’s favorite hobby. “My daughter Charlotte loves dancing,” he proudly told attendees at a Commonwealth Day reception.

[From People]

William also said, a few months back, that Prince George loves to dance too. I wonder if George would have liked to see the ballerinas as well? But this is just a nice mother-daughter outing. And this might have been the same outing where Kate and Charlotte had to stop into a pub with their protection officers so that Charlotte could use the lavatory. That happened at the The Phoenix in South London.

And when William and Kate were in Cyprus for the RAF Christmas party, William told people not to eat pizza on the couch, and Kate chimed in, to William, “You’re a nightmare with that!” William always sounds so boorish in Kate’s stories.

  1. Flying fish says:

    We shall see!

  2. Lightpurple says:

Charles did a thing at a church yesterday and then hung out at the BFI with Hayley Atwell, David Oyelowo, and Tom Hiddleston while Camilla had kids from a charity decorate their Christmas tree. Does Kate consider them to be stepping on her news cycle?

    • Tina says:

I have never envied Charles’s life more.

      • Lightpurple says:

And apparently, they showed him Pink Panther stuff because he loves Peter Sellars.

      • Tina says:

That’s actually really cute! I like Charles. I like that he was an environmentalist long before it was fashionable. I like what he’s done with the Prince’s Trust. [waits for Diana stans to appear]

      • notasugarhere says:

Prince Philip and Peter Sellars were friends back in the day. There was a Royal Match of Tiddlywinks at Cambridge U in the 60s. Sellars was one of the people on Philip’s honorary team.

      • Jaded says:

Charles loved the old Goon Show with Peter Sellars (actually so did I) – take a look at some of the episodes on YouTube – you’ll crack up!

    • Scal says:

THIS. Other royals worked on the same day as various W&K events-why is it only upsetting when Megan does it?

    • Milla says:

Im trying really hard to understand why is it that you are all so sure Kate is the problem. Or William. With a family full of much bigger players, why focus on kw? Who gets sth from this media mess? The media, Andrew, Camilla, Charles,… But if this actually causes something between brothers, it will be a real crime.

  3. Becks1 says:

I feel like the smear campaign is just gaining more steam, so I expect to see more stories this weekend. I think it will stop by Christmas though.

    • Chrissy says:

I’m hoping that someone with some balls puts a stop to it. This only makes the Cambridges look petty and pathetic just because they’re lazy, fake and entitled. It seems that Meghan is a natural people person and genuinely interested in making a difference just like she did before she married into the RF. I can’t see her showing them up on purpose. She ACTUALLY hit the ground running! Harry must be fuming.

      • Lady2Lazy says:

Meghan has always been active and has endorsed and supported humanitarian causes. I think the problem is with Kate. She had to wait 10 years for Will, I don’t think she has ever held an actual job besides her parents business. I think that Kate is jealous of Meghan coming out of the gate running and is performing duties on a regular basis, has been invited by HRH to attend an event together not long after the nuptials and gets quite a bit of attention for her sense of style. In fact if you notice in this picture, I website made a snark about Kate wearing wide legged pants just as Meghan did previously to an event. Meghan is showing up Kate and she is not happy about it. Plus, if I remember correctly, didn’t several people complain how inactive she has been in the past about taking on royal responsibilities?

    • Jamie says:

I hope it stops sooner than that. The BBC reported that Harry has been getting threats from Neo-Nazi types for being a so-called “race traitor”.
It’s disgusting and dangerous for the press to continue with these bs stories to make Meghan looks bad.

      • Bohemian Angel says:

@Jamie it’s all online about these groups calling for Prince Harry’s assassination. This hateful smear campaign is taking a very dangerous turn. I’m hoping this doesn’t end badly.

      • Olenna says:

This news is disheartening but not surprising. Some knucklehead was here just a couple of weeks ago trying to play down the number and seriousness of the threats the Sussexes (particularly Meghan) receive. Shame on the tabloids and whoever is behind this rash of stories about Meghan and the Cams, because they are inciting both the racists and mentally disturbed.

    • Himmiefan says:

I don’t know if W &K are behind this mess, but if they’re smart, they’ll do what they can to end these rumors since it makes them look guilty as hell. They’ll look good if they present a harmonious, united front and publically make all over Meghan and her mother. But maybe they’re not that smart.

      • Becks1 says:

@himmiefan that is my current opinion as well. I don’t know if its will and Kate behind these stories (my overall opinion is that there are different sources for the different stories) but in general it LOOKS like the bulk of these stories are coming from Will and Kate – surely someone over there realizes that and is taking steps to counteract that. Like so many other things with the royals, its about optics.

  4. Chaine says:

Now I’m picturing William slouching on a grotty couch in his boxers and a wife beater surrounded by a crumpled pizza box, some discarded crusts, and a few cans of Miller Lite.

  5. Kitty says:

Am I the only one who thinks all the stories about them feuding and crying, and all the Meg is a demanding bitch are just made up stories?

    • Levin says:

      No, it’s all blatant sensationalism.

    • Dali says:

No, you are not the only one!
This all started when the news came out that H&M are moving. The press used this to create stories which fit into the narrative of moving away from London and W&K. It’s so stupid, obvious and typicall from the british press that i do not wonder at all. It wasn’t a question of IF negative stories would be written about meg but just WHEN(ask fergie). Whenever the British media has a negative cover about germany, they include the nastiest associations like adolf hitler, nazis etc. They can be really disgusting. But it only hurts when it hits your favourite celeb/topic.

      • notasugarhere says:

Particularly silly as the permissions to make internal changes to Frogmore Cottage were filed back in April, a month before the wedding. The press are only finding out about it now, but their narrative doesn’t fit the real timeline.

      • Lady D says:

Truly, nota? Wow, the press is really slipping. I wonder if they are now belatedly checking for other Royal reconstructions?
Where and how do these things get filed, nota? Do they get filed with the palace or do they go through their local council like everyone else (ha, I made a funny) Has a royal ever been refused permission to make building changes?

    • Hannah says:

Nope. It is sensationalism by scumbag tabloids.

    • befrazzled says:

Not at all! I think all of these stories are made-up rubbish.

    • Beth says:

I think it’s British tabloid bs, so you’re definitely not the only one who thinks it’s made up, and these stories won’t stop until the world loses interest. Some people want to believe everything they read, especially if it’s about someone they adore or hate, so this isn’t going to stop anytime soon.

      • justthefacts says:

I suspect there’s a grain of truth to these stories. To what extent, I can’t say. Remember when the Chuck/Di tabloid stories started up. Initially, many people were ADAMANT these stories were fabricated. They were then later proved to be true.

These stories are also generating MASSIVE online traffic for the tabloids. Some stories have 4,000 comments. I was shocked to see 9,000 comments on an article last week!! These numbers are staggering, and must be generating a lot of click-thru traffic and revenue.

  6. Sassy says:

Of course there is more where that came from that was just warm up. Kris Middleton is just getting started.

  7. Digital Unicorn says:

Last week it went quiet on Friday with the stories starting again on Sat/Sun, there is a story about Serena Williams talking about her ‘sweet’ friend Meghan – wonder what stories this will trigger.

Also that pub they went into for the toilet is dodgy AF, even normal people shouldn’t go in without protection officers LOL. Well it used to be dodgy a few years ago maybe its gotten better.

    • Tina says:

LOL, I think it’s still mad dodgy. Maybe they chose it deliberately to ensure the punters were more glassy-eyed than eagle-eyed.

  8. Loretta says:

When you don’t have personality, charisma and work ethic I suppose you can only do smear campaigns. Poor pressed Cambridges!

  9. Loopy says:

It seems like Kate sees telling people/strangers her husbands stories as some kind of outlet or message to him, like maybe when they are alone she is scared to say ‘feet of the couch’ or no beer before dinner. Lol

  10. Ellaus says:

They have cream couches, i’m kinda on William’s side con this one….

I don’t think any more is going to leak, the “kids” have been put in line and are doing what they have to do; Charles is still the hero; Andrew is safe after the settlement 3 days ago and Carole has her christmas campaign done…
Now we maybe left with the aftermath in the form of horrible op-eds by Piers Morgan and horrible tweets from Samantha Markle…

  11. Lulu says:

That outfit screams Megan…. from straight hair all the way to the seams

    • Loopy says:

I think she should have gone for a nice form fitting angle pant, she is too long in the mid section it makes it look like she is on stilts.

    • Amywhiney says:

So the next time Meghan wears a fascinator, a bright color or tartan outfit is she copying Kate? Kate was also the first to wear a cape dress back in January this year, so this must mean Meghan was following her lead when she started wearing cape dresses after Kate. Apart from the trousers everything else Kate is wearing here is a repeat. She has also worn her hair in a ponytail countless of times before.

      • ShazBot says:

@Amy Kate has literally never worn trousers on an official engagement. Even Kate fans admit that her timing with this outfit is super obvious.

      • Lithe says:

        @Amywhiney knows…that’s why she’s being so defensive.

    • Dali says:

Maybe she borrowed the pants from Meghan 😉 maybe Meghan encouraged her to dress more modern and told her to ditch the safe oldschool look.

    • Meija says:

The first thing I noticed was how skinny she is after 3 children…good for her!

      • Bohemian Angel says:

That’s not a very positive view. She shouldn’t be congratulated for becoming skinny after having 3 children! This sends out a dangerous message to women who struggle to get their figure back or who believe you have to be skinny in order to be beautiful and accepted in society. Be careful of your words.

      • notasugarhere says:

And so much easier to do with the three nannies and two housekeepers taking care of the kids and household so you can spend hours every day with your personal trainer. All while refusing to work for the country that pays all those staff…

      • Bohemian Angel says:

        @nota Exactly!

  12. Feebee says:

I saw the movie “The Favourite” the other day and in comparison this drama is frightfully boring. Not as boring as William sounds though I’m a little relieved to hear they may eat pizza at home – a relief I can’t quite explain.

I hope it stops. Not that I can say it’s because they’ve made their point because it’s pointless. Meghan did charity stuff and had favourite causes before she entered the BRF and I don’t think she’s worried about Kate’s precious toes.

  13. ojulia123 says:

One way or another, I think this is going to backfire on the Cambridges. I’m looking forward to it already!

    • Ohio Girl says:

      Haha me too.

    • Princessk says:

Of course it is going to backfire, people have long memories and this bullying of Meghan will not be forgotten in the years to come.

      • justthefacts says:

Which BIG publications/websites do we look at, to get a good “read” on how the public are feeling about this?

By big, I mean a publication with MILLIONS of readers, that provides a big enough sample size, to truly determine how the public are feeling about this.

Celebitchy is awesome, but it’s a niche website.

  14. NotSoSocialButterfly says:

I think all of these stories are fabricated hogwash.

Has anyone notice Kate has finally stopped the heavy lower lid liner??? She seems to be sporting a bit of a winged eye.
    Finally!!!

  15. Angie says:

If these stories were completely separate from K and W, wouldn’t the four of them have stepped out together to quell rumors? I think they’re leaking it or at least some of these stories about M and it’s just so mean.

    • Ellaus says:

Had they stepped together would have we thought that was a genuine act? Or would people think it was to cover the leaks?
The BRF doesn’t often dismiss or deny things and rumours, and this last week they actually said through a “source” that some of the news were not true (Meghan and Kate having a fight last christmas).
They tend to ignore the stories on the press or leak others, or simply keep doing their things and wait to the storm to calm.
Harrys letter to the press stating his anger to the blatantly obvious racism about Meghan last year was something unprecedented and not common. You don’t step down to the tabloids level, even if you are diying to, because it is a slippery slope and at the end it is like negotiating with terrorists… You always loose.

Kate and Meghan are most possibly not BFF but that doesn’t imply that they cannot enjoy a civil SIL relationship, and even bond over the few things they have in common, like marrying two princes….
This pitting woman over woman, and the petty stories brought along with this behaviour should stop…

    • Constanceyy says:

After the story of Meghan throwing a tantrum over the tiara should the queen have stepped out with Meghan to quell the rumors. Or should Charles step out with Andrew every time there’s a story of a rift? Or should Beyonce & Rihanna step out in a show of solidarity every time there’s a story that they are not close? They are two separate couples with different interests. They do not need to manufacture an outting just to please the media & obsessed fans. This shows why the whole fab four thing was silly.

      • Violet says:

This is a little different though. This has been a concentrated take down attempt on their own sister in law. Supposedly they are close with Harry. If that is really true, and they really have nothing to do with this, you’d think they’d be eager to show their support for Meghan and say this is all rubbish. She’s very new to their family and the reports have a very unfortunate, racist undertone to them (Meghan the diva is so demanding and pushing she makes poor fragile Kate cry, etc.).

      • Dali says:

        Constancey,
Very true!!! Fanfiction is the worst.
I will never comprehend the intense feelings for strangers who we don’t know and will never meet.
Fans believe only the positive stories, haters only believe the negative stories. Simple minds.

      • Ellaus says:

@violet, well, to be fair, de don’t know how Kate and William have behaved behind closed doors towards Meghan and Harry this week, if they have called, or sent messages or have shared a glass of wine or cup of tea together at this crazy week.
We don’t actually have any proof of a rift between them, and un all the pictured together they seem to get on well.
We can choose what information believe, of course, but the fact that the Cambridges are lazy doesn’t make them evil people, and it goes both ways, if al about the C is true, are the sh*tty things about meghan true as well?
I refuse to believe both instances, and I recognize that the BRF, in fact very few Royal Familiar, deny rumors, and the press knows it, so the just run wild with what is more selling and polemic

    • Elisabeth says:

They were all four together yesterday! They attended the board meeting of the Royal Foundation and then hosted a Christmas Party for staff, according to the Court Cirrcular.

  16. Peg says:

How long can Kate and William keep up this pace? Now they have three children it seems they can do more appearances than when they had two.

    • Beach Dreams says:

They usually step up the activity around this time to make it look like they’ve been busy at work. If this continues into 2019, then it might be different. For now it still looks like the same old routine.

      • Violet says:

I think they are stepping up because the Queen and Prince Philip are finally stepping down. I don’t think Will and Kate have a choice. It’s up or out.

  17. CatPS says:

This is the absolute best she has EVER looked IMO. I hope she’ll do more trousers and blazers in the future!

    • Olive says:

i know, just seeing the photos again – i can’t get over how great she looked! the outfit and the hair are a winning combination.

    • Violet says:

I completely agree and it’s because she is dressing for her age for once. She needs to throw out all her ultra girlish, twee looks (the headbands, the hair ribbons, the pleated and flared skirts, the puffy sleeves, etc.). None of that does any favors for a woman in her mid to late thirties. These juvenile looks highlight her age in an unattractive way while this just makes her look fantastic.

    • Jan says:

Agreed. I’m ambivalent about, but that outfit looked fab. She looks like a professional, adult woman.

  18. Violet says:

I don’t understand why the Cambridges are just ignoring it. They could easily and firmly put a stop to this if they spoke to the press and said all of this is rubbish, none of these fights happened, she’s not a diva at all, they love Meghan and she couldn’t be a lovelier, more gracious house guest and sister-in-law, etc. etc. Or even if they allowed photos to be leaked of them heading out to dinner with Harry and Meghan, which has happened before.

I feel like if I were Harry and Meghan, I’d be hurt and disappointed that the Cambridges have done nothing to stop this smear campaign. They could easily put an end to the whole thing and yet they don’t.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

As I said on another thread about this, regardless of whether they are true or not given the sheer number of articles the Cambridges should have shut it down – they at best are allowing the press to use them to tear Meghan down and that does NOT look good.

    • TheOriginalMia says:

Exactly! They could have done something to indicate their support for Meghan. They didn’t so the stench from this smear campaign is rightfully on them.

    • okay then says:

The BRF simply doesn’t do that. They do not make statements about press drama. Expecting WK to say something is ridiculous.

      • CairinaCat says:

They don’t need to make a statement. They just need to go out together and be all smiles and laughter and light touching with affection

      • notasugarhere says:

And yet we had a Palace denial last week. So very rarely they do issue statements about these things.

      • TheOtherSam says:

@nota – where is the official statement of a palace denial? I know there were the usual ‘sources said….’ statements floating around the UK press last week, but I’ve searched and couldn’t find anything close to official or on the record. It’s possible I overlooked (the amount of ink spent on all of it has been vast).

      • Guest5 says:

KP or BP sources (wherever it came from) defended Kate and said she didn’t berate Meghan. They were responding to the Kate & Meghan staff story. They covered Kate’s ass and didn’t say anything else with that statement. Interesting how they were very quick to put out a statement saying nothing happened when Kate’s name was involved. They let everything else hang.

  19. Ally says:

I’m sure this will all be covered in documentary-like detail in the Christmas special of The Windsors. #cantwait

    • Lady D says:

The Queen will probably also mention something about the amount of racism being shown, in her year end speech.
She also has 4 new family members this year to celebrate, Jack, Meghan, Louie, and Layna. Did I miss anyone?

    • Misty says:

Is there going to be a Christmas special? That show cracks me up, especially Beatrice and Eugenie.

    • Bumble says:

Wait!! There’s more episodes of the Windsor’s being made?? I’m so happy I could cry!

  20. 2020 says:

It wouldn’t be appropriate for them to comment and try to cover something up, the media would then eat them alive and know that they are powerful enough to make them act.

The best thing is to ignore it all.
Meghan has survived Samantha, pierce, Thomas , Thomas jr , nephew dope farmer, the racist British tabloids, and if this is coming from will and Kate it will eventually backfire.

They will now have no choice but to keep up appearances and actually work.

    Whilst the media is talking
    Meg is busy working
Metting with Mrs Obama, her work in the university.

You can’t fake real interest and she will live to fight another day, in a fabulous outfit.

  21. liriel says:

Yes, exactly, thomas was worse than this passive-aggressive thing and if you once squash the rumours you’d have to do this every single time. Honestly, I have no idea what happens.

  22. Tina says:

Aaand Emily Andrews in the Sun kicks us off. Apparently it’s all really about Wills and Harry (which is one thing I would believe in this whole thing). Harry is overprotective and it’s all spiralled from there.

    • Lexa says:

Yup, this one was very interesting to me because Emily actually does seem to like Meghan quite a bit (not her fans on Twitter but Meghan herself). And that piece reads like it was originally meant to be in defense of the Sussexes (William tried to interfere in their relationship and had a pout attack when Harry got chosen to be the Commonwealth Youth Ambassador, Harry is just protecting his love, Kate shut her out even when Meghan tried to reach out, Meghan is smarter than all of the other royals combined, etc) but then Emily tried to make it more balanced by talking to Cambridge folks, so no one came out looking especially good? At one point reading it, I actually wondered if ELF was a source and one of the “friends” mentioned because they seemed reluctant to say anything negative and put people’s behavior in the most sympathetic light.

I do think the core of this article is true, though—Harry is very protective, William is/was wary, Kate just tries to focus on her kids, and Meghan is incredibly competent but still struggling a bit to fit in. Unfortunately, I also believe that some of the immediate family was slow to warm to Meghan. Their body language at the wedding was so different than at Jack and Eugenie’s. I chalked it up to the craziness of her family and the massive size of the celebrations but maybe this was a piece of it, too?

One more interesting nugget is that the staff will get to decide which of the brothers they want to work for. Really curious how that will shake out…

    • Becks1 says:

This story WAS interesting. It definitely paints Will and Kate in a different light. The other stories all paint William as this slightly overbearing but well-meaning and protective brother, and Kate as this poor victim who just wants to be a mother and why are people stopping her!!!!!

This story has those same themes but they don’t come off as positive attributes – it comes across as more “William is too overbearing and petulant” re: the commonwealth position, and Kate is just in her own world who couldn’t be bothered to reach out to Meghan.

the line about the IQs was kind of funny though lol.

I think overall this article makes Meghan look the best so I wonder if this is part of the pushback from the Sussexes.

    • TheOtherSam says:

Andrews’s piece throws shade on both couples, interestingly. In a new bit of info, William didn’t like the way Meghan handled the terrible pre-wedding situation with her wayward father, when it really wasn’t any of his business. IMO she handled – and has handled it – as best she could. And it is her family so she would know best.

On the other side, that comment re IQs made by the courtier was pure shade – at Meghan imo. I didn’t read it as he/she actually thought Meghan had a higher IQ than all the other royals combined; I read it as them noticing that she -thinks- she’s smarter than the rest, and isn’t afraid to show that. That was my initial take, and I wouldn’t be surprised that senior aides are still snarking at Meghan.

Harry is protective but per sources he is overly so, seeing insults where there aren’t any and atoning (via Meghan) his inability to protect his late mother. From what I’ve seen through this whole episode, among a group with plenty of issues, Harry’s loom largest imo.

      • Digital Unicorn says:

William cannot get pissy with Meghan and her family considering his wife’s family – how people forget Uncle Gary was caught trying to sell drugs and hookers to a reporter in Ibiza. And W&K’s response was to get papped snogging in full view of the press.

William cannot throw stones at Meghan or Harry – the article talks about ‘her intentions’ HA. William is the only one who is blind to his wife and her family’s intentions for years. They’ve been cashing in on William since they very beginning. If it wasn’t for him she wouldn’t have gotten free clothes from Issa, a heavily discounted Audi and access to holiday villa’s in Mustique.

      • TheOtherSam says:

Per Emily A, William wasn’t throwing shade at Meghan, Thomas or the general Markle family re their general behavior, he was unhappy the way Meghan shut him/them out so firmly when the sh*t hit the fan in the days running up to the wedding. She shut Thomas off (rightly so imo) and hasn’t looked back. Supposedly if this article is to be believed, William found that harsh, as he believes “family is family no matter what”.

It’s none of his business. He has no knowledge of these people, while Meghan does and would best know how to react and handle them in that situation. He can keep those opinions to himself….I think its ironic that members of the BRF are quick to throw their personal judgments around freely, but criticize newcomers like Meghan when they do same. I think she’ll fit in well lol.

      • Bluthfan says:

Harry has the biggest issues ? Come on. William is a selfish prick, Kate’s mean and dim but Harry’s got issues sure Jan.

      • Guest5 says:

“William is the only one who is blind to his wife and her family’s intentions for years”

You do realise that you sound exactly the same as the Tumblr Meghan loons, right?

      • Guest5 says:

They’re all entitled, whiny, petulant, overprivileged babies. None of them would last a day in the real world – except Meghan because she has provided for herself for years.

    • Bluthfan says:

The media is realizing that the public is starting to sour on the Cambridges smearing Meghan so now they are going after Harry. Emily Andrews pushed a lot of the smears about Meghan last week so not surprised to see her continuing the pattern of carrying Cambridges water.

      • Guest5 says:

The public is doing no such thing. The RAF event hosted by the Cambridges this week was hugely popular. That is the type of stuff the public sees. The people gossiping about these tabloid stories are royal watchers, gossipers, and people invested in the RF lives. I don’t know why you’re taking American/International opinions on social media as the “public”. I’d say the same for the DM sewer comment section… Nobody else cares. Most Brits are indifferent because our lives aren’t really affected by what the Royals do or don’t do. Their messy lives provide a gossipy distraction from Brexit for me Lol.

But they did comment. Kensington Palace came out with the story that Kate did not have harsh words with Meghan over staff issues. They said Kate never did it; but left everything about Meghan hanging. Including the idea that she is rude to staff that was in the same story. They could have made one statement that said all this stuff that has been out there lately is crap; but they just defended Kate and then said they would not comment on any other stories.

So now Meghan is supposed to stay in the background and only go to secret engagements. Sounds crappy. Yeah, it’s time for separate courts because if the Cambridges don’t want to get out there, they can’t expect to be able to restrict the Sussexes.

I wondered if the Neo Nazi threat was why they don’t want to broadcast Meaghan’s upcoming work?

    • notasugarhere says:

I think those behind the scenes things are partially because of security. There are lots of crazies out there, as evidenced by the recent arrest of the four going after Harry as a “race traitor”.

You were right Kaiser. Aaaand they’re off! K&W did not attend the board meeting and Christmas party to avoid M&H. Sigh.

What I don’t get is Harry was quick to call the press out when they were catching onto his relationship but now at the height of this media flurry he says nothing?! Why?

    • arsesds73 says:

Apparently they had issues with Harry putting out that statement as well, so I think the palace is preventing him from doing so again. KP’s main priority are the heirs, not the spares. Any story that makes the heirs look bad will be squashed, the spares are an after thought just like Harry was during his entire upbringing and still continues to be. I honestly hope karma comes to bite them – if they are involved – yes yes I know we don’t know for sure.

      • Rosie says:

I think it’s more a case of not wanting him to antagonize the media. You don’t prod a snake with a stick. The tabloids are scum at the bottom of the media pile but they can have a lot of power over popular opinion. He’s better off playing the long game. Why was Harry an after thought during his upbringing? He seems to have been very loved, what have I missed?

    • Mego says:

Harry issued that statement when they were dating and Meghan had no protection officers and security that she has now. The media was inciting racist hate in those stories and I imagine Harry was very afraid for her. It’s different now and easier for him to stick to the “we don’t comment” policy. Who knows maybe all the parties have agreed to ignore these lies. I mean the tabloids have a new story about the alleged feud which contradicts some of the other stories they published. Whatever gets them clicks.

William and Kate have skipped this meeting before and have failed to celebrate/thank the staff before. It is one more sign of their unprofessional behavior that they didn’t show this year.

      • Lexa says:

It sounds like only Harry attended the meeting because it was focused on his work for the upcoming year specifically. This is what I could find attendance-wise for these December Foundation events from the last few years:

        2015
        Board Meeting-
        Reception-Kate, Will, Harry

        2016
        Board Meeting- Kate, Will
        Reception-Kate, Will, Harry

        2017
        Board Meeting-Kate, Will
        Reception-

        2018
        Board Meeting – Harry
        Reception- Harry and Meghan

I can’t find when the 2017 reception might have taken place, but that was the year they had the Star Wars screening in aid of their foundation so that might have doubled as the reception? Both Harry and Will went to that.

The ‘press leakage’ from the Firm has been relentless. No denials or attempt to control by the palace means the Sussex team has really started some fires and this does not bode well for both of them. Seems like there is truth in their being exiled to Frogmore and out of Kensington Palace. The American crowd does not get the whole subtext of the recent press barrage but us Brits can read through the lines of all this. When you’ve been thrown to the wolves like this….you’ve gone and done one very badly. Centuries of wars have failed to destroy how that firm operates – this is a losing battle for Harry sadly unless he calms down. The same firm who had no qualms sending a Prince of Wales into exile and making him dependent on ‘the kindness of rich friends’ aka alms/monetary support in the European continent to support himself and Wallis Simpson. The firm is ruthless and NO ONE can hope to win against them. Harry is simply NOT the future King he’s being relegated very quickly into irrelevance at this point.

I’m American, although I went to grad school partially in the UK, and I completely agree with your assessment Anya. The majority of the leaks and the move to Frogmore come off as Harry being placed on the naughty step by the Firm while William is much more in favor not based solely upon birth order but what is likely his comparatively stately and dutiful behavior behind the scenes according to the terms they’ve set which are designed for self preservation in the long run, even despite perhaps giving the appearance of being at odds with short term public sentiment.

Diana was before my time but reading between the lines for the last several years it seems like Harry is considered a loose cannon and someone who potentially places the Monarchy at risk although he is very popular with the public. There are rumors of his being rebellious with protocol and having still not settled down his partying ways even after becoming engaged to Meghan. Now that they are having a family and moving out the country, he will likely have to earn his way back in with better behavior and, if not, I agree that he may be relegated to irrelevance.
