Sandra Bullock has been promoting her Netflix film Bird Box for weeks now. It’s interesting to see even the biggest old-school movie stars like Sandy and Julia Roberts hopping on the streaming train, and as they’ve found out, they still have to promote their Amazon or Netflix movies or projects like any theatrical release. Which means that there are premieres and screenings and tons of interviews.
Sandra stepped out in New York for a screening of Bird Box last night. This was her look – a stiff, taffeta-looking Martin Grant gown in a shade of orange-red. I really, really dislike this. I mean, I appreciate that she got all dressed up, but bless her heart, she’s never been a Fashion Girl and it’s just never going to happen for her. The sculptural sh-t at the waist is killing me. Also: I always give Gwyneth Paltrow a lot of crap for never changing her hair beyond the ‘90s, but we could say the same about Sandra too. She’s been doing this flat-ironed, center-part look for years. It’s kind of tired.
Sandra was on The Late Show last night and she explained Bird Box a little bit. It sounds like a very odd film.

I think the color on her is beautiful, but I’m not a fan of the cut of the dress.
Same. Could definitely be better with a different cut, but overall I think she looks pretty good. I really like the color on her.
I agree, she wears red well, but the design of it is just too random for me.
I’ll go with Tragic.
Sandra just no especially the colour.
I love Sandra, but I do not like the dress, it looks like she slept in it!!! The fabric is awful
She’s a beautiful woman but this look isn’t doing her any favors – the dress, the shade of lipstick, the center part flat iron look.
Sandra is still so beautiful. I just wish she hadn’t altered her face to such a degree. In these still photos, it doesn’t look like she got a crazy amount of work done, but seeing her in the new Oceans movie… her facial work was beyond distracting. I really do feel bad about the pressure they must feel to not physically age. Wrinkles or work done… sad. I’d almost prefer they accept the wrinkles with grace rather than plump, pull and inject everything. Sigh…
@Winnie Cooper’s Mom I agree so much re: Oceans movie & Sandra’s fillers/other work done. I saw the movie and could NOT get past her weird new face. Also saw her on Colbert and thought she has become similar to Julia Roberts re: like it was too much trouble to not be an icy super important celebrity that would rather be doing something else. It seemed like it really took a lot of effort to be nice & chit chat on a freaking talk show. I have always been a huge fan but she’s losing me quickly. I understand you would rather be with your children or doing yoga or whatever but don’t act like you are doing us a favor by showing yourself. Ugh. Rant over.
I think she looks fabulous. I love her. She and Melissa McCarthy are in my favorite movie, the uncensored The Heat.
No smiling like Victoria Beckham.
I don’t think she’s physically able to smile at the moment..
It looks harsh: the cut, the hair and lipstick. May have been better if some softness was added. Color of dress looks great on her.
Issa no for me. I hate everything about this. It looks liks she’s wrapped in cheap wrinkled bed sheets.
I actually like her whole look. Birdbox looks so damn good!! Can’t wait till Friday!
I like the dress. The hair looks dead though.
Definitely looks dated. She’s done much better.
She used to seem so joyful and animated. Over the last several years, coinciding with all the work she’s had done (her face looked so puffed/stretched/painful in the Oceans movie), she just looks miserable.
I KNOW!!!!
I found it really distracting to see her face and Cate Blanchet’s, not to mention Mindy Kaling’s lips. I tried to be live and let live but all three were/are attractive women, they didn’t need to alter their faces.
ME TOO! So distracting and tragic!
I still think she generally looks the same, but I do agree that she seems a lot more serious and melancholy nowadays — I kind of wonder if the incident in her home with her stalker led to some serious PTSD. I can’t image how terrifying that must have been so it would make sense.
Hate her hair. Shame about all the work she’s had done to her face.
Have you ever grabbed a bottle of wine as a last minute Christmas present, and just sort of hastily shoved it into a cheap gift bag?
AHAHAHAHAHAHA 😭
I like the dress, and she looks fabulous.
I think so too. Gorgeous!
It’s tragic, dated AND it’s fine I suppose. Flat center parts drive me crazy. She could’ve been styled so much better. The stiff, crunchy dress and harsh hair and makeup steer her more towards a Disney villain.
I recently saw Ocean’s 8 and her face was so distracting. Her lip fillers and botox were so prominent she could barely move her face.
She looks sad and miserable and over made up. I don’t think all the makeup and the clothes suit her… It’s weird because she never seemed to have that image, in the past she was always cast as the fresh faced girl next door.
Also the cosmetic surgery is distracting I wish she’d just left her face alone!
Whatever happens with the film, Bird Box is a good book.
She looks like a wax figure.
The clip they showed on the Late Show was kind of weird, but I want to see it, it looks tense.
Have to disagree on your assessment here, I think she looks fantastic and this is such a great holiday dress! The color and the cut are perfect for her, and her hair/makeup are perfect for this dress. It might not be the most FASHUN but it works for her face/body/hair/age as well as the event and the time of year.
