Connie Britton wants a meet cute, dreams ‘of meeting somebody on a plane’

Connie Britton was on Busy Tonight this week after the Globes. She and Busy reminisced about the time they first met, on a TV show called Life as We Know It, which aired from 2004 to 2005. I watched that! Peter Dinklage was in it as a school counselor. Connie said that was the start of her career, that she was spiritual and into meditation at that time and owes a lot to that. When Busy told her everyone loves her, Connie said that she wishes she had a special someone.

Everybody is in love with you Connie, you know that right?
I just need one of them to be a guy who wants to marry me. Why is it so hard?

You don’t do online?
No. I almost just swore just now.

Everyone gets paired with Matthew Perry
The one with the famous people is all Matthew Perry. I love Matthew Perry but we’re not going to date.

I do have this dream of meeting somebody on the plane. I love to travel. I fly a lot.

What was the gossip [at the Globes]?
I’ve gotten to be friends with Julia Roberts and she was sitting right below. She’s a real girl’s girl. She tried to set me up with somebody. It hasn’t worked out yet. At least mama tried.

It’s not really a healthy friendship, it’s more like I idolize her and she’s nice to me. Everybody understands that. Don’t judge me.

[From Busy Tonight on Youtube]

Connie also talked about her character on Dirty John, Debra Newell, and explained how John Meehan targeted and manipulated her. Connie really seemed to understand and sympathize with Debra, which you need to do when you’re playing someone I guess.

I remember hearing about that dating app for famous people! It’s called Raya and it must not work well if everyone is getting matched with Matthew Perry. That evil bastard John Meehan used OurTime to target women, it’s a dating site for people over 50. He had just gotten out of prison when he met Debra. It’s hard to meet guys once you’re older. Connie is probably doing the right thing by getting the word out that she’s single and looking. If you’re famous it can only help. Meet cutes rarely happen in real life.

She used to date Jason Mantzoukas, on whom I have an irrational crush, so I wish they would get back together.

    • Lizzie says:

it’s not irrational. he seems charming and romantic (and neurotic) AF…..he also wants to meet someone on a plane. i heard him say something to that effect on a podcast once. i would love them to get back together.

    • detritus says:

I didn’t know this! I totally would ship Connie and Jason, im sad it didn’t work.

    • lucy2 says:

I forgot about that! I love him. And her. I wouldn’t be sad if they got back together!

I was going to the airport for a trip to Europe with one of my friends, who lives in Indiana, at the same time another friend of ours who was home visiting her parents was flying back to Los Angeles. We all went to the airport together and over drinks were discussing the bad relationships we were in. The friend from California was making tentative plans to swing through Indiana to visit there on cross-country drive later in the year and as we left to board our plane, she told the Indiana friend, that she would see her in September unless she met a really cute guy on this flight and dumped the guy she was living with. She never made it to Indiana. Her flight was delayed for two hours. While waiting for her rescheduled flight, a really cute guy started talking to her. When they got on the plane, they convinced others to switch seats so they could sit together and continue talking. Instead of driving cross country through Indiana in September for her grandmother’s birthday party, she flew back with him so he could meet her parents. They’re married now with two great kids and an adorable dog. The Indiana friend still teases her about it.

This is soooooo cute LP!!! ❤️ I love stories like this, keep ‘em coming please!

P.s. I met my husband in a restaurant when I was very cranky waiting for my beloved yet perpetually late-ass cousin, so you never know 😂

  3. CharliePenn says:

Can someone explain the term “meet cute” to me please?
She’s so vivacious I love Connie

    • Deedee says:

When the leads in a rom com bump into each other in an adorable way. “Say a man and a woman both need something to sleep in and both go to the same men’s pajama department. The man says to the salesman, “I just need bottoms,” and the woman says, “I just need a top.” They look at each other and that’s the ‘meet cute’.”
      — Eli Wallach, The Holiday

    • Amelie says:

Yeah it’s one of those cheesy the girl drops her schoolbooks because the hot guy bumped into her and helps her pick them up. Or two people both reach for the same container of milk at the grocery store or the same book at the library or something stupid along those lines.

I did sort of have a meet cute in a bookstore once because a guy thought I worked there when I was just browsing like he was. But the guy freaked me out when he emailed the customer service email of my company inquiring about me. The CS rep who got it was super nice about it but super confused as to why he wrote in to the customer help email. Just thinking about it now makes me so embarrassed hahaha. I stopped responding to him after that.

Ooh! Ooh! I met a really cute guy on a plane once – he looked like Jake Gyllenhaal. Actually I started talking to him before the plane boarded b/c I was looking for a weed hookup at my destination lol (it was a girls trip). It was the boldest I’ve ever been – of course b/c I wasn’t trying to hit on him and had a boyfriend at the time. Once we started talking I was like oh damn he’s cute, fml. We talked on the plane too and when we deboarded but that was it b/c of aforementioned bf. But moral of the story is be bold and approach a cute guy don’t wait to be hit on!

  5. Biting Panda says:

So Connie Britton can’t find love? Awesome. I’m sure my odds are at least as good as hers.

  6. Scal says:

I know someone that met their husband on a plane. He was having a conversation with the guy next to him about their work and it turned out they worked in the same field. She leaned over and joined in. They didn’t exchange numbers but a few days later she googled him and sent him a email. 15 years later they are still married and have 3 kids.

    It can happen!

    • North of Boston says:

I used to travel a lot, and struck up some interesting conversations, and always wondered if I’d ‘meet’ meet someone while traveling.

There was one time I was flying from Boston to London, like a 5-6 hr flight. I’d dozed off after dinner, and woke up about an hour later to find a note on my tray table. Some guy said he thought I was beautiful and would love to spend time with me….he’d left his #’s so I could get in touch with him. I stood up and looked around, kind of obviously looking for whoever left the note, and asked around but no one knew/would point out who left the note. At the time, all I could think was “you’d love to spend time with me? Here we both are on a plane for hours, there’s no one sitting next to me…maybe come over and strike up a conversation? Offer to ‘buy’ me a drink (intl flight, so they’re free) I thought about maybe calling him when I returned from my trip, but misplaced the note, so….
I guess that’s what they call a missed connection. Oh, well.

I always dreamed of having a meet cute and falling in love and blah blah blah…it’s like winning the huge lottery, it’s *never gonna happen and when it does it’s a very small percentage!!! Met my husband online after not being able to find a decent guy who wanted the things I wanted which is why I think online dating (when used appropriately) works wonders! Funny thing tho my in-laws still don’t know my husband and I met online…I’ve told ppl (friends family) but he keeps telling them we first met in a bar which is true but how we got to said bar he never explains. Anyway no shame in looking for love online just be careful and smart ladies/gentlemen…and good luck if youre trying to find someone offline!

  8. Renee says:

If Connie is having trouble, my odds aren’t looking good. Side note: she is beautiful and I LOVE her hair.

    • ladytron2000 says:

      My thoughts exactly.

I’m younger (45) but not nearly as attractive. Perpetual singlehood it is then!

    • North of Boston says:

Yeah, that amazes me. How is Connie F-ing Britton having trouble meeting a nice guy?!
WTH are guys looking for if it’s not Connie Britton?

I used to wonder the same thing about Lauren Graham (who may or may not have actually dated Matthew Perry LOL) But after not having a SO in her life for a while, she wound up partnered up with Peter Krause, who I’ve had a crush on since Sports Night. So maybe good things do come, eventually, sometimes.

  9. lucy2 says:

Dirty John is such addictive TV! The whole story is bonkers, but I think the TV version made it even more engrossing.
As others have said, if Connie (and her amazing hair) can’t find a decent guy, there’s little hope for the rest of us!

  10. Neva_D says:

I’m still holding out for a meet cute too!

I think I’m going to have to try online/app dating, and I’m a bit apprehensive about it. (I’m a liberal in a predominantly conservative part of the country, so my pickings are already pretty slim).)

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with online dating at all, but I think my personality isn’t very compatible with that style of dating. My brain kind of works the opposite way and I don’t find anyone attractive unless I’ve interacted with them in person and have a general sense of how they are. I can find someone attractive but still not be attracted to them; which makes it hard when most apps have you swipe based on how cute you find someone’s picture and a 4 sentence bio. Dating has been… A journey

  11. Maylee says:

God I love Connie Britton. How has no one locked her down?!

  12. Michel says:

Connie Britton is a g-damn treasure.

  13. Harryg says:

Dirty John is really good! Eric Bana is really scary. And Connie Britton is always great.

    • me says:

I just binge listened to the podcast yesterday.

Debra is really hard to sympathize with by the end of the story. She knew what an awful person John was by the end and yet she chose him over her kids and continued to expose her kids to this monster. She wasnt just naive, she was stupid and desperate with John. If he was still around today, I believe she would get back with him.

I cant wait to watch the show. Is it on netflix?

  14. Eva says:

She’s a treasure. Love her so much ❤️ I’m glad she hasn’t settled because she needs an amaaaazing man who truly appreciates her.

  15. meh says:

The quotes seem so weird and stilted! Is that actually what the conversation was like? I haven’t watched Busy’s show because, although I have affection for her Freaks & Geeks character, I didn’t really have much hope that she would be good at interviewing people.

  16. brutalethyl says:

I absolutely love Nashville. Connie holds that entire show together. I hope she finds her real-life Deacon, but with less drama.

  17. Winnie Cooper's Mom says:

We need to figure out a way to get she and Liam Neeson together. Wow that would be so hot.

  18. Skwinkee says:

I also had a plane meet cute. I was flying to meet friends in NJ and flew into NYC, he was flying back from TO to NYC on work. I saw him before waiting-flight was delayed- and we were next to each other. He asked me if I was traveling for holiday or for leisure. To which I said “both” we were both smitten by the time the flight ended.

I was dating someone seriously at the time but this meet cute lead me to break up with him. Meet cute didn’t last more than a few months, we were in different cities and I suspect he might have had a GF when I look back.

But it got me out of a terrible relationship so I’m thankful for that!

My theory now is when you think you feel fireworks for someone, it’s probably alarm bells. Lol.

  19. Oliviajoy1995 says:

How long has she been single? When she was on WWHL in December I think, she had a boyfriend then. I thought I remember Andy specifically asking her. Well I hope she finds someone. Lol

  20. Dani says:

She’s so stunning. I recently watched the land of bad habits on netflix, and she’s in it as a divorcee and she’s just soo good. I’ll marry her if she wants!
