The ever growing šŸ¾ pack

A post shared by James Middleton (@jmidy) on

James Middleton seems to have given up completely on his marshmallow business, Boomf. He lots millions of dollars in investment on Boomf, and now he lives in Scotland, where he works as a guide and host on his brother-in-lawā€™s Scottish estate. Yes, not only did Terribly Moderately Wealthy James Matthews give James Middleton a significant amount of money for Boomf, Matthews also had to give him a job when Boomf failed.

Part of the reason why James Middleton is still ā€œin the foldā€ of his royal relations and his wealthy Matthews relations is because, unlike the White Markles, James is discreet. Heā€™s given interviews, sure, and he uses his connections to get Wimbledon tickets, obviously, but heā€™s never ā€œsold outā€ his sisters or his parents. Heā€™s never been too ā€œlook at me, Iā€™m famous!ā€ Heā€™s never really given people too much of a look inside the Middleton Lyfe. Until now. James has made his Instagram public, which is a rare thing for a royal-adjacent.

It probably helps that James Middleton still isnā€™t selling out his family with his ā€˜gram. Most of his Instagrams are animal-related, with lots of photos and videos of his many dogs and his new country life in Scotland. He seems happy? And God knows, people love to see cute photos of dogs. So enjoy this glimpse into the life of a royal-adjacent.

  1. Laura says:

    I would hit it

  2. Shruteā€™s beet farm says:

Hmmm. I thought Boomf was still accepting orders with James as ā€œWonka in Chiefā€ (so dumb). I think the gig on his BIL estate is more for fun and not his actual job.

    • Cee says:

Yeah, he seems to be listed as the founder but probably not running the business anymore, which is smart.

  3. Alexandria says:

Really looks like a Russian Tsar.

    • damejudi says:

That’s all I can see, too! Reminds me of the photo of Tsar Nicholas II and the then Prince of Wales (later King George V) in the book Nicholas and Alexandra.

    • Ellaus says:

Thank you! I spent 20 minutes during lunch wondering who he remembers me of…
Nicholas of Rusia abd his cousin George! I generally consider James the least interesting Midddleton, but this pictures (i saw them through a link n the DM , a funny picture of him and spencer matthews) have made me like him for 20min.
He looks happy and contempt, and his dogs are lovely. Madre me smile for a while.

      • Megan says:

Who do you consider the most interesting Middleton? They are all so boring.

      • Ellaus says:

@Megan, I think Carole and Mike are the ones with a strong character. Carole clearly knows how to navigate life and achieve her aspirations, Michael looks like a laid back men and good company for a pint. And maybe Pippa among the children.
But really, none of them seem scintillating. And i still think James is the least interesting and likeable, but for a moment his dogs, the scottish countryside and his relaxed and happy expression made me forget how try hard and contrived he looks generally.

    • Serphina says:

Yes he does!!! But I would not hit it with a 10 foot pole. Way too much baggage. And by baggage i mean all the middletons and windors.

    • Rosie says:

      Yes!!

    • Sharon Lea says:

      I see it too!

    • manda says:

yes, yes, yes. omg, yes. I’ve wondered what he reminded me of for years now and now I know. thank you!

  4. TheOriginalMia says:

Heā€™s selling something. Those are professional pictures not selfies.

    • Erinn says:

Nah, get a fancy phone and anyone can take pictures like that. I mean, maybe he’s selling something too… but the photos aren’t suspicious based on quality.

    • Becks1 says:

Maybe he’s been taking photography lessons from Kate.

    • Beth says:

He works as a guide on a Scottish Estate. It’s not at all surprising that he would use Instagram (a marketing tool) to show idyllic pictures of him and adorable animals in Scotland.

    • Megan says:

He is selling the hotel. He was clearly hired as a marketing strategy. Directly promoting the hotel would be considered crass, so he is being more subtle by showing us beautiful photos of Scotland and all the fun things you can do with James as your guide.

      • Whatabout says:

His Instagram has been public for years. Iā€™ve been following him for awhile. He seems to have someone taking really nice photographs for him. But itā€™s mostly just lots of dogs. I think he maybe breeds dogs? But nothing showing the Scottish estate or even Boomf.

      • Rk says:

I don’t see how when most of his posts are actually old and aren’t located in Scotland. He’s just Instagramming his life as we all do. I think I like him more now that I have seen this haha.

    • windyriver says:

I’m not so sure they’re professional. Three of the four (excluding the lamb) were taken at three different times – in 2017. The last one with scenery is two years old. Actually, he doesn’t have that many recent photos, or total photos, on his IG. And I agree, it’s amazing what a good cellphone could do, even two years ago.

His last picture is from December about Ella becoming a pet therapy animal, nice post.

    • YesImHere says:

Agreed – the ones of the animals look casual, but the ones of himself look posed, and they aren’t selfies. A selfie is when YOU take a picture of yourself. He’s clearly been photographed by someone else. He’s definitely selling something – wouldn’t surprise me if he’s selling himself as a model.

    • Rk says:

Lol, this is what my IG looks like. In fact, its what everyone’s IG looks like! All social media posts are carefully curated, one way or another. We’re all posing and showing off the pretty pics.

    • Rk says:

Okay, these comments are weird. Don’t you guys use Instagram? Maybe it’s an age thing.

    • PrincessK says:

Exactly, this is James Middleton re launching himself, the Middleton’s are PR experts.

  5. Hikaru says:

DM article says he’s 31. All Middleton siblings seems to be shearing the same age-fast genes.

  6. Tzu says:

Omg. Iā€™ve never had an opinion on him one way or the other, but now that Iā€™ve seen his IG feed, I think I might love him? Anybody that loves dogs and spends as much time with them, as he obviously does, must be a good person. Must. Be.

    • Anon says:

I had a peek at his feed and I was impressed. The man takes a good photo of any animal. That pic of a bird perched on his hand, and the one of the puppies in the doorway. I know he didnā€™t take all of the ones of him, but irrespective of that, the photos he has chosen that others took of him are also nice.

    • original_kellybean says:

I will have to agree with you on that. And the opposite is true, too. If someone doesn’t like animals, they are immediately an asshole in my opinion.

    • Clare says:

Right? Stop making me like him, you guys!

    • Spikey says:

Dito. I cannot disrespect a person who makes … eight? …. dogs sit still to take a picture. That’s some wizard level dog whispering!

      • Scal says:

Esp when they were puppies! Heā€™s had that one group since 2013 and has pics around his parents place. Adorable!

    • Nan says:

I think I am with you, Tzu. I have always been Team Jimmy but viewing photos just confirmed why. I don’t know why people talk about him as if he is some washed up failure of a businessman. Boomf is a really strong company that is expanding. James hired people to run it for him, which is standard practice for most successful entrepreneurs. The articles about them losing money were essentially bullsh** – It was a new company, and anyone who has ever gone into business knows that the break-even point can take YEARS. He didn’t get bailout cash from bro-in-law James Matthews; It was addtional capital to expand to new products, which has been done successfully. (Does James Matthews look like the kind of geek who would throw cash at a scrounging in-law? Has he made himself a BILLIONAIRE by making poor investments?) He is a young man who spends his time working at his in-laws’ estate because he loves animal husbandry and being outdoors, and because he is clearly very close with the Matthews family. I think his breakup with Donna Air was crushing and he needed to retreat to the countryside. Now that he is dating someone new, he will probably head back to London. I want 2019 to be the year that James gets a Happily Ever After and can start his family as well. Team Jimmy!

  7. Millennial says:

I think it sort of sucks that having your sister marry a prince means no (public) Instagram. He should be able to do what he wants.

  8. Kittycat says:

Hes 5 years younger than me but looks 10 years older than me.

I will say Pippa husband really loves her.

  9. L84Tea says:

Forget James…am I the only one squealing like a lovesick teen over all the adorable dogs?

  10. Katherine says:

Omg Iā€™m so glad to read these comments. I Never really thought anything about him. And contrary to some I donā€™t think the rest of the Middleton family are like… kardashian level thirsty. I think they do the best they can given that one family member became very very famous. Itā€™s hard to make your own way in anything under those circumstances. But bottom line I was neutral on all the Middletonā€™s.

Well neutral just went to damn… heā€™s hot.

  11. Zapp Brannigan says:

If he ever gets fed up of rambling in the hills with various pooch friends I will gladly take his job off him. Green with envy over here šŸ™

  12. Lala11_7 says:

    Animals love him…

In one photo I saw on his “gram”….he and I have the same pair of pants

And I’m not even gone fault him for that inane marshmallow company …cause Mummy and Daddy should have sat him down and said…

    “Dear Boy….No……………………………………………”

    • Becks1 says:

I agree re: Boomf, except that my mother and SIL always have these bags of fancy marshmallows now that I think taste gross but apparently they’re a “thing” and are getting popular. Maybe JMidy was just before his time lol.

  13. OSTONE says:

I would hit it too. Daily walks on a Scottish massive estate with a bunch of animals? Sold.

  14. Becks1 says:

Golden retrievers!!!! The royals need more goldens in their lives.

    Signed,
    golden mom

  15. Tiffany says:

I like it. Those dogs are beautiful and that countryside….wow.

    • aaa says:

A picture of Glen Affric came up on my Windows sign in screen and I fell in love and now want to go there just based on that picture.

  16. Annie. says:

His Instagram has been public for months. I am surprised it took this long for the Daily Mail to discover it.

  17. bread says:

He really wants people to think that he’s landed gentry, doesn’t he?

    • MoonTheLoon says:

Hey, it appears to be working. Look at all the slobbering commentary up top. LOL

    • Rk says:

Not really. His social media just looks like a rich guy frolicking in the countryside. The Cotswolds is full of city dwellers living their dream country life out there.

  18. OriginalLala says:

puppies and lambs! I am here for that

  19. Jerusha says:

Looks like a great life! Dogs! The Highlands! Oh, yeah.

  20. Fabulous says:

A black dog called Zulu? I don’t like it. Firstly because it seems disrespectful to the Zulu people and also because of the UK film about the ‘against the odds’ defeat of 4000 Zulu warriors by just 150 wounded British soldiers. While James may or may not be a racist, white supremist he will certainly know the connotations of the name. The upper classes are certainly aware of who are considered beneath them.

    • LizB says:

Scottish/English upper classer naming a pet something racist ? Par for the course.

    • Amelie says:

There used to be a horse at a barn I rode at (when I was taking horse back riding lessons) named Zulu… I think he was known for being a bit feisty and ill-tempered.

  21. Ader says:

He has the best life!! All those lovely animals…the scenery! I wish I could live in the country with a bunch of animals. Le sigh….

  22. vava says:

Ewwwww……………. he creeps me out. What the hell is he wearing with those pink shorts? And in the other photos I don’t find him the least bit attractive at all. I can’t imagine hanging out with a Marshmallow Guy, either. The dogs are nice, the Highlands are great, but James Middleton holds absolutely no appeal whatsoever.

    • LizB says:

      I’m with you.

    • Royalwatcher says:

Me too; I’m with you and LizB. I find him creepy and very unattractive. Plus I hate people who just continually fail upward in life. You’re a 45-yo-looking 30+year-old…Go get a real job and stand on your own two feet!

      • claire says:

haha! just noticed your comment about him looking 45 after posting mine… He could pass as his dad’s younger brother

      • MoonTheLoon says:

It did occur to me that he’s taking his father’s tack in life, at least superficially. He knows that Michael is well regarded for being the “discreet, country-loving man,” so he shapeshifts accordingly. Time will tell. If it’s heartfelt, I’m happy for him. But history has shown that at least Carole and the kids are parched and will do what they can with any convenient angle. Again, I hope to be wrong.

    • Chaine says:

Me three. I don’t care how many cute puppies he owns, I can’t stand a beard on its best day and his is just a few weeks away from the stage that suggests “hobo with a half-drunk bottle of fortified wine.”

  23. LizB says:

What the ever loving eff. I am looking at all the comments and feeling like I must live in an alternate universe. He isn’t ugly, but hot ? No way Jose.

Pass. All you other Celeb*tches can have him.

  24. Kyle says:

In that top photo, from the eyes up, heā€™s Nicholas Cage. But overall, with the beard and lambs and dogs and Scottish countryside heā€™s hot!

  25. Amelie says:

Rural Scottish life suits him! He seems happy.

  26. YesImHere says:

He seems desperate for attention. Only thing I can think of. I’ve always felt that it really bugged James a lot that he has never achieved the fame and public interest that his two sisters have achieved. Granted, Pippa is a big nothingburger, but people do recognize her and she gets press. James is a divorced single guy with a bunch of dogs who has ruined businesses under his belt and currently working a lame job he got through family connections. Opening his IG up to the public is a last-ditch attempt at attention. Wouldn’t surprise me if his new “business” is to try and become a social media “influencer” of some sort.

  27. Sofia says:

Until seeing his account, I considered him the Rob Kardashian of the Middletons. He seems happy and fulfilled. Good for him.

    • Rk says:

I know. just goes to show we don’t really know anything about these people – we don’t see their lives on a daily basis, but that doesn’t stop the gossiping. I bet Pippa’s social media would be great too.

  28. aquarius64 says:

Why is this guy trying to be someone?

The Middletons – the posh version of the Markles.

  29. knowitall says:

This is soooo extra. These are professional photographs of a wannabe gentleman. The midds must have kept a tight leash on James and Pippa over the years, because itā€™s pretty obvious they are both dying to be more famous. Pippa less so, but still.

    • YesImHere says:

Oh, Pippa tried for years. Remember she had that embarrassing book about planning parties? She also had a cushy spot writing a column for a popular magazine, thought I forget which one. Everything she tried, all the doors that were opened for her, led to nothing. She and James both are nothingburgers.

    • Nic919 says:

I donā€™t know whatā€™s going on here. Must be the power of the dog photos. But the reality is this guy had a dumb business idea that failed and now is doing a lifestyle thing. This is a family that just had the DF follow them on vacation with super upclose photos of his new gf. Nothing is a coincidence.

      • YesImHere says:

THIS, exactly. Not only the girlfriend angle, but I also think James wanted to be seen on the beach in shorts and no shirt. Mark my word: he’s angling to get offered some sort of country gentleman modeling gig.

  30. aaa says:

For the big, fat loser many try to make him out to be, James Middleton seems to living his best life ever.

    • Natalie S says:

He’s lucky to have enough money and support to lead a comfortable life no matter what he does business-wise.

There’s nothing wrong with failing at starting a business but the bratty arrogance in his early interviews is what turned me off.

  31. SlightlyAnonny says:

I’ve always thought he was handsome, useless, but handsome.

  32. Alyse says:

A guide and host on a Scottish estate…what experience does he have exactly? Couldn’t they have got someone local who knew the area and the wildlife, or someone with some experience of entertaining groups, or of deer stalking, trout fishing etc?! I’d be so embarrassed to be him, he seems like a leech.

    • YesImHere says:

It’s a bullsh*t job with a bullsh*t title for a guy of upperclass wealth and privilege with no skills or real-life experience whose parents never made demands of him.

      • LizB says:

        Bingo.

      • Redgrl says:

@yesimhere – this! And whereā€™s his life jacket in the boating picture? Not sure what the laws are in Scotland but in Canada a real guide would be wearing a life jacket. Heā€™ll sink like a stone in those clothes! And Iā€™ll bet the waterā€™s not warm either!

      • MoonTheLoon says:

And the prize goes to YesImHere! Lest we forget, this estate belongs to his brother-in-law’s father. It’s not who you know, it’s who your sister blows, so to speak. The Howards would be proud!

  33. sequinedheart says:

Would. the beard, the dogs, the country life. THE LAMB PICTURE.
good lord, this marshmallow nothing relative just turned into something.

  34. Winnie Cooper's Mom says:

If he had a reality show, I would totally watch it. Roaming around Scottish countryside with adorable animals? Yeah, someone please make that show.

    • Rk says:

I think he should go the lifestyle route. He isn’t a Royal, it wouldn’t be a scandal. There would be genuine interest.

  35. aquarius64 says:

Now I see why the Markles expect Meghan to flow money to them. The Middletons have their more well off in laws get a come up: William allegedly helped Mike and Carol get their mansion and James get funding for failed businesses and a job from Pippa’s husband.

  36. Maddie says:

Sorry, but no. A big N-O.

Those Middleton genes ages the f out you, donā€™t they?

    Cute dogs though.

    • claire says:

Agree about the genes, but he seems to be going out of his way to make this worse. Who wants to look 45+ before they have to ffs? I am 51 and he seems old looking to me lol.

  37. Sharon Lea says:

Why have so many dogs when you are single? How can he give each one enough attention? I grew up on a farm so I get rural life. I love animals, it just seems too many.

    • Laura says:

Random observation….was it that long ago that he and Poppa shared a flat in London?
If so, how/ where did they house all those dogs?

  38. MeghanNotMarkle says:

He’s always seemed pretty harmless. Dim but harmless. If he’s really in his happy place now, good for him. I don’t do beards so no competition from me here. And I’m deathly allergic to anything with fur or feathers. I’ll take beautiful walks in the Scottish highlands, though.

  39. Margo Smith says:

Boomf is literally the grossest word. What a dumb name for a business.

    • livealot says:

LOL.. I literally thought it was an expression like “oompf”… but its the actual name of his business? dreadful.

SOLD BY THE LAMB PIC <3

  40. Romundi says:

Aesthetically-wise, I can imagine swiping right. But he has taken millions, MILLIONS of pounds/dollars in investment from third parties, losing it all, and then takes a ready made job from his BiLā€™s estate in Scotland.

Sorry James, but I think he should have finished his degree and gone into a job like the vast majority of us rather than following his pursuit of entrepreneurship. He could have secured a very comfortable living easily in the finance field, for example, like the scores of similarly average, privately educated white men who do so all the time. I donā€™t blame him for wanting to stand out, but ā€˜thinkingā€™ that you can be an entrepreneur doesnā€™t make you one.

My personal case against him was confirmed this week when he did daily holiday papwalks to promote himself alongside Pippa, James, his BiL Spencer and wife Vogue (who were promoting their own reality show launching in the same week), oh, and of course…Carole.

    • Rosie says:

Itā€™s actually not easy to get a job in the city by family connections anymore. There was a time lots of them worked in Lloydā€™s as underwriters or brokers but you have to take exams now. Iā€™m sure the same is true of the financial markets. It might be an in but they donā€™t carry anyone. If youā€™re not up to the job youā€™ll be out. As an outsider TV, publishing and PR work seem to be more about who you know.

  41. A says:

Ugh, to be that rich and to fail that badly and to still have the chance to live a life like this.

  42. Jayna says:

I just read James’ article in the DM on his severe depression and recent diagnosis of ADD. Wow! Talk about not knowing what someone is going through. It moved me by the time I got to the end. As someone who once suffered from severe depression for a period in my 20s , I understood everything he was going through and not even understanding it nor getting help and isolating yourself and friends and family worried. I felt his article was so honest about depression and the effect undiagnosed ADD had on his life, feeling stupid and ashamed, and feeling like a failure as an adult. My friend’s ex-husband had undiagnosed ADD, and everything James was saying in the article sounded like her ex-husband.

I wish him well. He sounds like a nice guy. I loved the part where he talked about his pets, especially Ella.

    • Elisa says:

I didn’t know about his struggles with depression and ADD. Judging from the pics he is in a better place now, so good for him.
On a superficial note I find him really good-looking and never understood all the negative comments about his looks.

    • Cee says:

Depression is no joke. I suffered from mil depression in 2017 and it went undiagnosed for so long I was a mess. It was the darkest period in my short life and something I would never wish upon anyone. Itā€™s made me more empathetic and kinder to people because you never know what others are going through.

I wish James, and everyone else whoā€™s suffered through dark times, peace of mind and the strength to keep working on depression in order to keep it at bay. Weā€™re stronger than what we consider ourselves to be.

  43. Rk says:

Oh my word. He has opened up about his struggle with depression. Why do people think its fine to call others “nothingburgers”. You have no idea what people are going through in their lives. Those types of comments are a mere reflection of yourselves.

    • ravynrobyn says:

I agree with what you’re saying that people shouldn’t judge…BUT…this is a celebrity GOSSIP website. We don’t know these people, they don’t know us; our worlds are so far apart that there’s virtually NO chance that they will collide. People come here to “escape”, vent, laugh, and sometimes learn to see someone a bit differently. So unless JMidy (thx, Becks 1!) reads the comments
(which he def SHOULD NOT!), no harm, no foul, right?

Except now I’m going to contradict myself…with all of the current tabloid-created, tabloid-driven shite shoveled Meghan’s way, most of us are thinking about and commenting on stuff that’s not even partially true. And it’s so viscous, frightening and unnecessary…there’s a lot of harm being done, most of which can’t be undone nor forgotten.

Haven’t read about James’ depression and ADD yet, but as I’ve suffered from depression off and on (mostly on) since I was 13, and was diagnosed with severe ADD (inattentive type) as an adult about 25 years ago, I already have a lot of empathy for him. For whatever reasons his Instagram is now public and whatever he’s trying to sell (or not!) with these pix, he looks very happy and it makes me smile and lifts my heart šŸ’•

  44. Katebush says:

I read the article too and it changed the way I thought about him … itā€™s a very honest interview and possibly why his Instagram is now public? He obviously want to get involved in the routals mental health work so kudos to him o say! The more discussion we have about these sorts of illnesses the better.

  45. hkk says:

I read the article and find two things interesting. 1. He speaks about Heads Together being William, Catherine and Harry only, is this article old or did he purposely leave her name out? 2. No comments section on the article- strange!

    • aaa says:

If by “her” you mean Meghan, the Heads Together campaign took place before Meghan and Harry became engaged.

    • Lady D says:

I read the comments last night when there was about 60-80 of them. Every single one gushed about brave, brave James and what it took for him to survive and how much he was doing for mental health for boys and men across the country. He was a hero and an asset.
The comments read like they were all written by about 3-4 different people. They all used the same words, brave, strong, asset to the country. Today the comments are gone. I agree, it’s strange. I think the comments became way less kind and the DM yanked them.

      • annie says:

I think DM comments will express worries that Prince George might inherit his uncles health problems.

  46. hot says:

I find it so patronizing of people calling others nothingburgers. Work and accomplishments are not the purpose of life, for many people. Even if someone decides to just earn enough to support themselves, or lives off their family wealth, but is there for their family, it’s ok. Everyone has their own journey, their own idea of life and what to do with it. As long as someone isn’t abusive to others and themselves, it’s all good.

  47. Bee says:

Dude clearly loves his doggos. I can’t hate on that.

  48. Angelesque says:

Heā€™s also talking quite openly about bothhis depression and ADD diagnoses. Heā€™s got an extremely privileged life, but it also sounds like his mental health has been a substantial obstacle for him for awhile. Good for him for both addressing that health and talking about it.

And we all know animals are fantastic therapy, as well šŸ™‚

  49. Mjo says:

Love his article in the Daily Mail describing his struggle with the disease of depression. I would hit it, too, except that Scotland has too much rain.
