Donald Trump will probably loot disaster relief funds to build his dumbass wall

U.S. WASHINGTON D.C. TRUMP DEPARTURE BORDER WALL

Pick your depressing story of the week. It’s like Bandersnatch, only we’re all going to die in a flurry of Donald Trump’s Fascism For Morons. The government shutdown is still happening, even though there are Republicans in Congress trying to work on ending it. Trump doesn’t want the shutdown to end, and he has no understanding of the 800,000 federal workers who are going without a paycheck. The government even made a little flyer for furloughed workers to advise them on how to make a little money, from dog walking to selling all of their belongings. We’re probably not going to get out of the shutdown before Trump declares a national emergency and then loots the funds from other agencies to build his fakakta wall.

President Donald Trump has been briefed on a plan that would use the Army Corps of Engineers and a portion of $13.9 billion of Army Corps funding to build 315 miles of barrier along the U.S.-Mexico border, according to three U.S. officials familiar with the briefing.

The money was set aside to fund projects all over the country including storm-damaged areas of Puerto Rico through fiscal year 2020, but the checks have not been written yet and, under an emergency declaration, the president could take the money from these civil works projects and use it to build the border wall, said officials familiar with the briefing and two congressional sources. The plan could be implemented if Trump declares a national emergency in order to build the wall and would use more money and build more miles than the administration has requested from Congress. The president had requested $5.7 billion for a wall stretching 234 miles.

Under the proposal, the officials said, Trump could dip into the $2.4 billion allocated to projects in California, including flood prevention and protection projects along the Yuba River Basin and the Folsom Dam, as well as the $2.5 billion set aside for reconstruction projects in Puerto Rico, which is still recovering from Hurricane Maria. Senior Defense Department officials discussed the proposal with Trump during his Thursday flight to the southern border, according to officials familiar with the briefing.

[From NBC News]

Some were worried that Trump would declare a national emergency and seize emergency powers during his primetime speech this week, but he didn’t and he still hasn’t. Is that what’s in store this weekend? Probably, I don’t even know.

And finally, people in the White House are on Death/Retirement Watch for Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Trumpers are apparently telling people that there could be another SCOTUS seat opening up. Ugh.

I had an idea, a stupid one, but I want to send him the Pink Floyd album. Tons of Pink Floyd albums

  2. Tiffany says:

To the reporter who asked him about declaring a national emergency when he had no idea that his had the power to do it, turn in your credentials.

I need to look up who that was and send a email to their employer.

    • Kitten says:

Right? He literally NEVER would have thought of this if that reporter hadn’t brought it up. Wasn’t it a Faux News “reporter”? Or am I wrong?

      • Tiffany says:

It happened so fast and the camera turned away I could not tell. But Faux News saw it and rode with it.

      • PunkyMomma says:

Agreed. It’s very easy to read Cheeto’s tells. It’s always something like, “I may well do that. I might call a national emergency. We’ve been looking into it…”

      • Snowflake says:

@punky. Yes. He is the worst liar. He IS my old used car sales managers. Except they were better liars

  3. Renee2 says:

    No. No. No.

None of this is okay!!!! Remember WAY back when he was elected and so many predicted that people were going to die as a result??? Well, that came true in spades and oftentimes in ways we didn’t expect, like as a result of refugees being denied entry through the Southern borders and people dying in national parks because of the shutdown. And now there won’t be any funding left to respond to natural disasters which are increasing because of climate change???!!! The Republicans need to be ousted. There can’t only be one party in power but they are all so corrupt, heartless, racist, and spineless. I can’t take much more of this and I don’t even live in the States right now. F.

    • Kitten says:

I read the most depressing Vox story about Joshua Tree park yesterday. People vandalizing the park with graffiti, driving through virgin desert so they can camp under rare trees, people CUTTING down trees and leaving trash everywhere. It’s so effin depressing. Also THIS is why when Obama had to deal with government shutdowns, he immediately closed all the parks: to protect them. However, Trump doesn’t GAF about nature or this country’s sacred land so this is all fine with him. Just so depressing. So infuriating. Gah.

      • Jerusha says:

I’ve no doubts about who they voted for. The attitude of use it, abuse it, do what I want, no matter the harm. Preserve something for others to enjoy? Fvck that!

      • Kitten says:

EXACTLY, Jeru. Terrible people who worship a terrible person. Easy to understand.

      • Mel says:

Those are horrible news. I’ve been there and its beautiful. Just idea of people Taking advantage and doing that just because they can is despicable.

      • Lightpurple says:

And there have been several deaths in the parks over the past two weeks.

On a personal note, I miss seeing the rangers along the Freedom Trail. Many of the sites here are actually still open because they are privately owned but the rangers are usually out and about and visible. My thoughts are with them and all federal workers as they get their pay stubs today showing $0.

      • Renee2 says:

        Kitten,

I read that too but had to stop. Everything is so depressing, but people are choosing to be super shitty and make things worse with their behavior. Do they not understand that they are hastening environmental disaster??? Driving over rare plants and trees moving and trashing parks??? This has to stop but sadly likely won’t.

      • The Other Katherine says:

Renee2, they enjoy destroying things BECAUSE they are rare and precious. It is the same mindset as big game trophy hunters (like Uday and Qusay Trump). These are the actions of evil people who enjoy setting everything good about the world on fire just so that they can watch other people grieve.

      • Swack says:

I teach my children and grandchildren that you leave a place better than when you got there. Backpacked a lot in my younger days and brought out more trash than I would have created. Even on walks today, whether it’s in the neighborhood or on a trail, we pick up trash. I don’t understand why someone wants to destroy something so beautiful.

      • Kitten says:

@LP-Same here. Park rangers are a ubiquitous aspect of living in Monument Square in Charlestown. Speaking of, I’ve been keeping an eye on the Bunker Hill monument and so far, it looks like it’s still clean and in good condition. Those park rangers have been really good to the people that live around here. They’re not just rangers, they’re guides and they are typically an amazing resource for tourists. They also do a lot to help people out around the neighborhood. Their presence has always been a source of comfort me and I really miss seeing them around.

@Renee-I read it with tears in my eyes. And TOK is right that the appeal to them is destroying something that is sacred, rare, protected, or all of the above. It is so f*cking sad.

@Swack-That’s fantastic. We do the same when we hike around the white mountains–always bring a bag to pick up trash. The Vox article I referenced mentioned a rock climber who is a paraplegic. He used $5,000 of his own money and hours and hours of his own time to go down to the park and pick up trash, try to repair things etc. He said that he saw a camper who ran over some precious flora (rare cacti etc) and when the man pointed it out to him, the bastard just flipped him off. These people are simply THE WORST.

      • Mel says:

@swack- thank you for that! You’re my hero. I wish there were more like you! Thank you for passing the wisdom to the next generations as well❤️

  4. Renee2 says:

And how are people supposed to pay their rent or mortgages with dog walking??? WTF??? So insulting and beyond stupid!!!! I need to lie down.

    • Bryn says:

Anybody suggesting those things are so far out of touch with the situation.

    • Meghan says:

NPR had a segment about it and a DC dog-walker was out of work because all the people who had dogs to walk were staying home because of the shutdown. So there goes that stupid idea.

      • Lightpurple says:

Lots of small businesses are being impacted: dog walkers, day care providers, coffee shops. Everything that we do on our way to work or at lunch or on the way home is being hurt 800,000 times every day for the past three weeks.

    • LadyMTL says:

It’s the “sell your belongings” one that got me. I mean – whaaaat? So let’s say you sell a pile of your belongings, you have money for a short while and it runs out and then what? Unless you have unlimited stuff to sell, it’s a very very very short term solution. Not to mention that it must be so depressing to have to sell your personal things just to be able to pay the bills.

This effing president, I have no words. I know Canada is far from perfect but…yeah.

      • Liz version 700 says:

No kidding telling the Coast Guard to have a garage sale like you less people don’t need actual belongings. It is so entitled and so bizarre. Then buy new expensive stuff take a second hit because of politics beyond your control?

      • Lady2Lazy says:

What sickened me the most was that he declared that federal employees agreed with his shutdown and that they were supporting him 100%. Then on the other hand he stated that he understands that these federal employees are living pay check to pay check, that he understands their financial situation. In what universe does he understand their financial dilemma when he was raised with a silver spoon up his ass and was given $400 million dollars from his father? He has NO idea how these people feel and he doesn’t care. He just wants his wall and will continue his temper tantrum until he gets it. I can’t wait for him to be impeached.

    • jay says:

Furloughed? Sell your blood! And who needs a second kidney you greedy, irresponsible sonofabitch?! Sell it! Get your priorities straight! That hungry, crying baby? You know what to do – sell it! Got copper pipes? Rip em out and sell em friend! Don’t you dare declare bankruptcy – that’s only for rich future presidents! Just batten down the hatches, starve with dignity, and muster up some good old American moxie you lazy freeloaders!

  5. Eric says:

Can’t wait til Feb 7. Public session with Michael Cohen.

Mr Cohen, how many pregnancies has trump been a part of?

Mr Cohen, how much Russian money flowed in to the coffers while you were RNC chair?

Mr Cohen, can you explain how the money laundering occurred at the trump organization/foundation?

    🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿

    • Jerusha says:

Compile a list of questions and send it to the committee, just in case they don’t think of everything.

    • Chrissy says:

Eric, add the question, How many abortions has The Orange Turd been a part of? Give the holier-than-everyone-else trumpsters an eye full. Including that disgusting boot-kicker Pence.

    • adastraperaspera says:

How much did you pay the hackers who swiped DNC info?

    • Lightpurple says:

Mr. Cohen, can you explain what the National Enquirer “vault” is, whether you ever paid money on behalf of of a client to the National Enquirer, did you do so on behalf of clients Trump, Hannity or their families specifically, and if you did, please share the amounts paid and the specific stories, in detail, with us now for the record?

    • Fluffy Princess says:

Mr. Cohen can you please relate to the committee and to the American people, Ivanka Trump’s role in the Trump organization? Also, as it relates to the real estate portion of Trump Org., please tell us Ivanka Trump’s relationships that extend to Russian involvement, for example Felix Sater? Mr. Cohen can you also confirm Donald Trump Jr.’s reference about how the “Trump Organization gets all the money it needs from Russia.”? Mr. Cohen, what are the names of the contacts you and the Trump Organization frequently used while doing business with Russia? And as a follow up, Were these same contacts used to help Donald Trump illegally gain the office of President of the United States? Mr. Cohen, did you work with any sitting members of Congress to facilitate the illegal activities of the Trump campaign? Who within the Republican party okayed the change to the Republican platform on Ukraine right before the Republican National Convention? Was anything given in exchange to the member(s) of the Republican party to sign off on this change? . . .

      • SecondisTheBest says:

I’m thinking a decade or two from now there’s gonna be an Oscar-baity movie called, “Mr. Cohen”

  6. Swack says:

I thought funds that were already allocated for some other project could not be used without Congressional approval. But I can see this happening because he has said that he told FEMA to stop sending money to California for the wild fire disaster relief. I can’t hardly read the news any more. There is happiness in the world as Jamie Closs has been found.

  7. tback says:

What an absolute crock of shit.

  8. Tate says:

Great idea. Cause the stupid wall can really help people in need next hurricane season.

    • tback says:

A hurricane will probably blow the stupid wall down, then we will go through all of this again.

      • Tate says:

        Ugh… 😫😫😫

      • jwoolman says:

Well, it’s already been proven that his prototypes for The Damn Wall are very easy to breach with commonly available tools. Better monitoring with advanced technology that isn’t so intrusive and destructive would be a more sensible approach. And how exactly is it going to stop asylum seekers, who seem to be the majority now? They don’t try to sneak in, they just want to apply for asylum and get a court hearing.

    • Giddy says:

Well one thing we know for sure is that it won’t bother Trump to take money that is supposed to be for re-building Puerto Rico. I can’t think of any group that he would have any issues with appropriating their funding. If parts of that racist wall get built they will simply be remembered as monuments to the worst President in history.

  9. Lila says:

I wonder if he is still proud to own the shutdown. He will keep the government shutdown for as long as he can to divert attention from Mueller prob and especially keep it going through February 7th when Michael Cohen will publicily testify before Congress.

    • Swack says:

He doesn’t own it. It’s the Democrats fault (even though the last two years the Republicans controlled the House and Senate) or it’s Pelosli and Schumer’s fault. He NEVER takes the blame when it is his fault. He always puts it off on others.

    • Kitten says:

Yup. Probably the only talent this man is the talent of manipulation. He’s truly masterful at owning the media and driving the public narrative. The Manafort news was a bombshell, the Cohen testimony is huge–and nobody is talking about either because of his stupid effin wall.

  10. Tootsie McJingle says:

Why?? Why would anyone do this??

    • Kristen820 says:

More balls than brains. But that’s a super relative comparison in this case…

    • Elkie says:

No Everybody’s Going to Have Healthcare, no Lock Her Up, no Bringing Manufacturing Back to the US, no Only the Best People, no Cutting Medicare Prescription Costs, no Mexico’s Going to Pay For The Wall, no The Tax Plan Will Pay For Itself, no Working Class Wage Increases, no Getting Rid of The Deficit in Eight Years, no Draining the Swamp, no Releasing His Tax Returns, no Not Humiliating the US on the International Stage….

Because Trump has failed to fulfil ANY of his main election promises, all he has left is performative cruelty for his base of slavering White Evangelical Mammonites, so that’s what he’s going to do.

      • The Other Katherine says:

Precisely. And his base is so rabid that most of them will accept getting screwed over themselves if they think that people they hate are getting hurt worse.

  11. Mel says:

Someone needs to remind trump that California has the highest economy of the US and is also ranked 5th in the world! If he even tries then I suggest California looks at it as a two way street and stops giving its share to the federal government ( I know its unlikely and undemocratic to think this way but hey, at this point a girl can dream) we’ll see how all those people who voted against their own economic self-interest and decided to follow someone who shares their racist beliefs will feel after that, maybe they will finally see the truth. Then again, probably not. Btw, when I read this news last night on the daily fail I tried for the first time to post a comment close to this one and they didnt publish it. Lol

  12. Sash says:

    I’m just so tired.

  13. Rapunzel says:

If he does this, CA should secede.

    • Eric says:

      Rapunzel
      Just what the Russians want

      • Rapunzel says:

Eric- really? Do elaborate. This is news to me.

      • Eric says:

California succession would be great for CA, but terrible for the United States.

        Economics:
CA subsidizes large swaths of poorer red states who receive tax monies collected by the Fed who then distribute out. Red states have a free trade agreement with CA for produce, nuts, fruits, wine and many other commodities of which CA is known. In many of these commodities, CA ranks as number one nationally as far as output. That free trade would disappear if CA became an independent nation and while certainly CA would get richer (even beyond their status of world’s fifth largest economy), poor red states would get poorer. Much poorer. Note that Governor Brown left CA to Newsom with a $850 billion dollar surplus.

        Politics:
55 electoral votes would disappear, making it much easier for a Republican renegade candidate to amass electoral college votes for a presidential victory. CA is mostly blue with a few underpopulated red areas. In addition, those 53 house reps would disappear leaving Congress an easy victory for red states and candidates. Note that both Senators are Dems, and one is a bonafide pres candidate in Kamala Harris. House reps including Adam Schiff, who oversees an important oversight committee, would disappear. He’s a former prosecutor natch.

        Tech:
CA is known as the tech center of the United States, if not the world and many aspiring techies go to college here to learn the craft and work in Silicon Valley to hone their skills. Many world techies including those in India and Pakistan learned right here in America.

Russians would love nothing better than to separate CA from the US for these, and many other reasons not listed; in fact, the CalExit initiative is headed by a Russian.

      • Fluffy Princess says:

But, also let’s remember that CA just can’t up and leave if they want. We are part of the United States as a whole, it would require such a monumental effort to separate us–we can’t just vote on it here and say, “See ya later, USA!”

Just like splitting California into several “states” is not happening either, although they tried to hype that a couple of years ago too.

But, it all the “Cal-exit” / Multi-state relates to what Eric says, is that people are trying to break up the Blue Stronghold we have here for their own personal benefit. Not going to happen.

      • Rapunzel says:

Wow, Eric! I had no idea about the CalExit thing being headed by a Russian. Very interesting. And of course, all your stated reasons why Russia wants that exit are true. I’m just disgusted with putting up with Trump. A CalExit of course is not the real answer (and I obviously hadn’t even been seriously following the idea, for as Fluffy Princess notes, it ain’t gonna happen). Honestly, I was really just feeling pissy this morning about the his threats to FEMA.

      • Fluffy Princess says:

@Repunzel – I hear you though! Because, I have thought the same thing so many times since that Orange Hag got elected!

“You don’t like us? You don’t like all the money we send you? We should leave!!! THEN, what will you do??”

  14. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

He makes me shudder in disgust. In the doctor’s lobby yesterday, I walked out until the television changed subjects. It’s hard to wait, however, cuz there’s so much stupid.

  15. Jerusha says:

I wish to god those mounds of Big Macs and buckets of KFC would do their job and, you know ….

  16. Rapunzel says:

So let me see if I have this straight: we can’t have gun legislation because bad folks will find other ways, but we must have a wall because bad folks won’t find other ways.

And we can’t have gun legislation because folks need guns to protect themselves from the government doing bad things like taking their land, but we must have a wall which would necessitate the government taking people’s lands.

And we can’t have gun legislation because kids dying in schools is not a crisis, but one cop in Newman gets killed by an “illegal” and we have to throw billions at the issue.

I just can’t with the nonsense of the GOP anymore. I live 10 minutes away from Newman, where Ronil Singh was killed. This area has much bigger problems than “illegals”. The assholes around here are too Republicans and Fox News indoctrinated/brainwashed to realize it.

    • Swack says:

The mental gymnastics is astounding, isn’t it.

    • maddie says:

right? he also said they’re doing the best job ever keeping people from coming here, but they can’t do that without a wall.

did you see his old commencement speech? he said if there’s a concrete wall in front of you, do whatever you can to get to the other side. dumbass

  17. Kitten says:

Trump has one ace card and that’s the undeniable fact that he doesn’t care about anyone or anything except himself. It’s why he can make all these terrible and highly consequential decisions without a moment of doubt or even a moment of thought.
    He simple DOES. NOT. CARE.

    • Tiffany :) says:

That’s a hard, sad truth. Sigh. He has never faced consequences, so he doesn’t have any fear.

  18. Mel says:

Ok so I just found this and Laughed, hopefully it will make you smile a little too…
“Dear Congress, last year I mismanaged my funds & this year I cannot decide on a budget. Until I have come to a unified decision that fits all of my needs & interests, I will have to shut down my checkbook and will no longer be able to pay my taxes. I’m sure you’ll understand. Thank you very much for setting an example we can all follow”

  19. Case says:

This is a nightmare. It’s like he’s holding the country hostage.

  20. RBC says:

This “wall” will not cost just five billion dollars, the costs will just keep rising and rising. Also he might want to see how drug traffickers are getting around a wall. They are just digging tunnels underneath.
Meanwhile people going without paycheques and trying to figure out how to pay their bills. How he became president I will never understand

  21. launicaangelina says:

I recommend reading this thread on Twitter. I write many infrastructure grant applications on behalf of cities in California (I live in Texas and work remotely). These applications require coordination with engineers and this thread is full of facts (of course because this is a legit wall engineer).
    https://twitter.com/randyresist/status/1083463907321077761?s=21

    • BeanieBean says:

Thanks. That’s a must read. I would also add, somebody’s got to do the NEPA analysis & Sec 106 consultations; ah, who am I kidding? Trump hates environmental protection laws.

    • Tiffany :) says:

Very informative! Thank you for sharing that thread.

  22. Kkhou says:

I live in Houston and we have been waiting for these funds for over a year. They are desperately needed for flood mitigation. Flooding in Houston is a real crisis that needs to be addressed, and the Army Corps of Engineers projects are a vital part of that. It makes me so angry that they will loot those funds simply to assuage his ego over this unecessary wall.

    • The Other Katherine says:

I called Cornyn’s and Cruz’s offices today and read their staffers the riot act on the senators’ behalf. It is unconscionable.

  23. teehee says:

Lets just assume this dumbass wall DOES get built.
It will not solve any of the raging issues happening within the US borders.
We still dont have healthcare, quality education, fair taxes for the rich, legitimate disaster funds (the irony is rich on this one), any progress on gun control, we’re actually gonna go backwards on abortion (potentially), we have raging police brutality and injustice, racial tensions are high, sexual assault and crimes go ignored, and we haven’t made any forward progress on the international front (in a good way, I mean, not a bad way)—

Yu really can judge a man by his past track record. This “man” takes and bankrupts businesses and defrauds people of pay. He’s doing this to the entire country now- rather than a few dozen employees its now thousands of Americans he is harming and ripping off, and hes driven the federal agencies into “bankruptcy” (no funds) and all that is dependent on it is liable to literally starve, rot, and fester.

DIS GUY. DIS GUY IS SUCH A FAILURE AS A HUMAN BEING, LET ALONE AS A LEADER OF ANYTHING OR ANYONE, DONT EVEN MENTION AN ENTIRE COUNTRY.

But sure! Lets blame it on a few innocent immigrants, who are “stealing his good life”.
    Yep. Sure.
This is such a fairytale mentality of “us versus them” from a rich white a$$hole racist, sexist old man. Some imaginary criminals are causing harm and he wants stupid people to believe him and support his theory when in reality there is so much more going on which he doesnt even begin to comprehend let alone CARE about. Just HIMSELF- he thinks somehow “immigrants” and “muslims” are taking his (stolen and fraudulent, tax evaded) money, eg, the only problem that matters and the root of all issues in this country. Hes a rich pervert yelling GET OFF MY LAWN from the white house while those who did nothing wrong are going to suffer lifetime consequences from this shutdown.
Yet he points the finger at everyone else? The man with the responsibility, sits around and points fingers. CLASSIC. The “we cant trust an emotional woman” man, is throwing himself on the floor and crying (or storming out).

I have so much more to say…. but…

(Im pretty ignorant myself but I hope you can see what Im trying to get at here)

    • Flowers says:

@teehee You are not ignorant at all. Your comments are so insightful that I wish more people could read them.

    • Swack says:

Lets blame it on a few innocent immigrants, who are “stealing his good life”. – which is very hypocritical of him considering his Bedminister Club is being investigated for using illegal aliens and not putting them on a list given to the Secret Service for security reasons. And immigrants make his life easy as they staff his clubs and make it comfortable there for him and his family.

  24. adastraperaspera says:

Cheeto will never get a wall. The shutdown is just a ruse so he can buy time to fight indictments (17 new WH lawyers this week??). Notice that the FBI and Justice departments are compromised… He’s trying to save his skin (won’t work). Allowing kids to stay in cages, parks to be trashed, federal workers to remain idle, small businesses to go under, TSA to weaken, and disaster victims to suffer more is his vile MAGA in full bloom.

    • me46 says:

Scott Dwotkin tweeted yesterday that even if Democrats gave trump wall funding he wouldn’t reopen the government. He is apparently thrilled about the showdown and likes that FBI agents and other fed employees are being furloughed. He truly thinks all federal workers are Democrats.

    • B n A fan says:

Thank you for saying Don the Con will never get his wall. I truly believe this will be held up in the courts until after he’s kicked out of office. Did anyone see the video of him giving a commencement speech in ‘04 when he Said, “if there is a wall in front of you, go over it, go around it, go through it, never give up.” I truly believe if it’s build someone will tear it down. The man is pure evil. He sold out his country and will do anything to distract us from hearing that his people DID collude with Russia 🇷🇺 and Putin to be elected. In the end he was not elected by the majority, Hillary received about 3,000,000 more votes than he did, making him, in my opinion, he’s not legitimate.

      • Anastasia says:

I read on Twitter from an engineer that it would take 10,000 people over 11 years to build it, and that’s IF all the steps are done correctly and that’s WITH seizing the private lands of south Texas ranchers. Shyeah. Good luck with that.

  25. Ruth says:

As a Puerto Rican, this is infuriating. So the deaths of thousands of Americans wasn’t a disaster, huh? But he’ll have his baby tantrum about not getting his giant unnecessary wall and use actsul disaster funds to shove this through. Despicable.

  26. Liz version 700 says:

I saw the most amazing article yesterday that said someone did a study and found that trump supporters show a lack of empathy compared to non- supporters. This was documented and measurable. I wanted no write the author and go no Bleep!

  27. Dttimes2 says:

Disclaimet: i have very little idea how US politics work other than the basics…but why isnt anyone starting their own grass roots party: seems you have 2 choices bad and worse. Or impeach the orange talking head

    • sunshine poolside says:

      Impeachment won’t happen, I guess.
I think politicians who talk about impeaching Trump just want too curry favour with those who don’t like Trump. Else he would have been impeached already.
Compare what happened to B.Clinton when his affair with M.L. was published. The press went for his jugular and shoved him into a wall speaking metaphorically and he scraped by just so. Contrast that with that what happens to Trump right now in terms of impeachment. Nothing is happening regarding the impeachment of Trump. The press isn’t really pushing the issue. Nor are the authorities as they have wasted too much time already.

Guys, how do you deal w Trumpsters? I was at a community potluck dinner and this guy started going on about Mexico and the wall. Do you ignore it? Do you engage? I engaged and after a few minutes, i think he got pissed. He was eating w my group, got up and didn’t come back. I’m a hardcore Democrat and I’m in a red area. I hate confrontation and arguing with people but at the same time i cant let their comment go by without saying anything. I feel if they start a political conversation, i should be able to state my opinion if I dont agree. But it always ends up ugly. Another trumpster old coworker went on a 20 min monologue. I cant have a discussion with them! Should i keep my mouth shut and ignore them? But heck, i want to stand up for my beliefs too. How you guys handle these types of situations?

Both Trumpsters as well as Anti-Trumpsters are often not very rational and they get very emotional on what Trump says as opposed to what he does.
Take for example the Trump’s trade talks.
US cars sold in Germany are slapped with a 20% import tax.
German cars sold in the US are slapped with some tax in the lower single digits. (3% or something). That isn’t fair. Trump was right to renegotiate that. And I am German.

A similar thing was going on with the war in Afghanistan and Syria. Basically no foreign army can win those wars. American soldiers and other foreign soldiers kept dying there in wars and battles which can’t be won.
Trump did announce to withdraw. This military fallback has created a power vacuum and it ain’t yet sure who will fill that vacuum (in Syria it might be: Syrian forces, Al-Quaida/ islamist forces, Russia, Turkey, or even some other Arab country). But for Trump it is important that no more US soldiers die in Syria. What is wrong with that from a US-point of view?

As for the wall: I don’t quite get what is in for the US or for Trump when that wall will be built. Because the main immigration routes are already severely guarded. So why add the wall? To make voters happy?

Lately it was reported that Trump asked some young kid if he still believed in Santa Claus. Well that might be called petty or mean or spoiling childhood’s magic. But I doubt such a story is really newsworthy.
It seems to me that Americans who dislike Trump often do so on superficial grounds like telling a child Santa Claus doesn’t exist. They simply dislike him because he doesn’t act like US presidential royalty (aka Obama). Look at the bigger things that affect the nation. Look at what Trump said about education (basically he considers student loans a huge problem, and I agree with that). Stop the pettyness and cut away the politically correct speech and then he ain’t looking that bad.
Ask the people in Syria or in Afghanistan. They are very happy that the US is retreating. See, Obama kept bombing them. Trump stopped bombing them. They didn’t like getting bombed.

So what do you suggest I tell Trumpsters who start talking about political stuff? I don’t want to discuss politics, I will not change their mind and I will not change mine. Should I just say I don’t want to talk politics?

I asked for advice on how to NOT hear it

I’m sorry for such a bitchy response^^^ I just feel like I keep getting forced into these political conversations that I’m not interested in having by conservatives. They will just come out of nowhere with political comments i don’t agree with, then my temper kicks in and my mouth feels like i have to say what I believe. Then they get upset and it affects our relationship. I’m trying to figure out a way to avoid it, i hate arguing. Again so sorry for being nasty. Tbh, i wish I could remove my posts.

He said he would built a wall and now he does build a wall.

I don’t quite get what is in for him but he does deliver on his promises. Sadly he does.

I want the House to have public hearings about The Damn Wall. Investigate the true costs, get experts in to talk about alternatives and how effective or not they think his stupid wall would be and how illegal immigration and drug entry actually works (with the real statistics and not the numbers Trump is pulling out of the air), get people along the border to testify how it’s affecting them (even an historic church is in danger from Trump’s attempts to force people to sell land and buildings, not to mention farmers and ranchers). And they need to figure out who exactly is going to profit from all this and how they are related to the depths of Trump’s personal pocket. It is quite likely that Trump’s real plan is make a bundle personally from bribes to get contracts assigned. The idea of taking from disaster relief funds is atrocious and also very suspicious.

Maybe the House could insist that they be involved in deciding who builds the wall or whatever and demand strict accounting for expenses. It is imperative to prevent Trump and his family from profiting from all this. He’s been slashing budgets for agencies and departments and nobody knows what has happened to the money “saved”. He was allocated a bunch of funding for the border but still hasn’t spent much of it. Where did it go?
