Kylie Jenner & Travis Scott spent a fortune on Stormi’s first birthday party

New York screening of 'On the Basis of Sex' - Arrivals

There are a lot of people in the Mommy Mafia who judge women for throwing baby showers after the first or second baby. It seems nitpicky to me, but I sort of get it. I’m not part of the Mommy Mafia, but here’s the thing I hate the most: when parents go WAY over the top for their baby’s first birthday. Your child will not remember any of it. They’ll look at the photos one day and wonder why you wasted all of that money on a party they have no memory of. First birthdays should be low-key, just something for families. Just my opinion!

So, little Stormi Webster turned one year old on February 1st. Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott celebrated by throwing their baby a gigantic party on the backlot of Universal Studios over the weekend. There were carnival rides, the Butterfly Rainbow Forest and Baby Shark. There were French fries in Louis Vuitton-branded containers. There were Chanel purses for Stormi. There was even a “Stormi’s Shop” where guests could BUY Stormi-branded material, I guess. I imagine some of it was fun for Stormi and some of it was fun for the adults. But mostly… yeah, it was just a display of ostentatious wealth for a baby who won’t remember any of it.

Some tweets about Stormi’s b-day:

That inflatable head is the stuff that nightmares are made of.
Turning a cute baby into a set for a horror movie? Sure, why not.

    • Alissa says:

yeah the inflatable had in the stuff her face was on just did not look cute, it looks really freaking. like a tattoo of someone’s face that wasn’t well done.

    • Elena says:

Agreed the inflatable is way too creepy

    • Kitten says:

Horrible, scary tunnel. Chanel bags for babies? Stormi’s shop?

      Blech.

The whole thing is gross to me, except the dancing animals in the last video. Honestly, they could have probably done *just* that and the kids would be thrilled. But, ya know, when you have billions at your disposal I guess this is the kind of status shit that rich folks love to blow their money on.

I wouldn’t mind having more money but no way in hell would I want to be this rich.

      • Swack says:

Have always said that if I won the lottery, $1mil would be more than enough for me. I would not like the headaches that come from that much money.

      • Slowsnow says:

I’m not gonna lie, Travis Scott dancing in that ridiculous setting, the baby’s body language being all wtf, a whole freaking TV show set on a stage and almost no one watching plus the hashtags ‘makeupartist’, ‘selfie’, and ‘mirrorselfie’ have me LOLing hard. And then I’m sad. To quote @Anne on this thread “consumerism isn’t something to aspire to”.

      • softtoothbrush says:

@slowsnow where you seeing those hashtags?

      • SilentStar says:

The excess is disturbing, but I must admit I like seeing rich people spending their money and circulating it around the economy.

    • Rice says:

I had my 1st birthday party at 8 years old. My mom was a single parent so material things weren’t a priority. She made a cake and the main meal, which was chips (french fries), shrimp and coleslaw. My cousins, uncles, and Granny were there. I got a doctor set and a puzzle set. It was the best birthday ever! There was so much love and I felt special. Stormi’s party seems like it was more about the wealthy parents with her as a theme.

      • Pandy says:

I can’t believe you remember so much about your party. It was obviously special and sweet memory to read! This party is an abomination.

  2. BasicBitch says:

Kylie really is becoming a low key Michael Jackson

    • Gaby says:

She is the oldest looking 21-year old I have ever seen. The way her face moves is unrealistic. I honestly feel bad because it obviously comes from a place of insecurity. I know talking about it won’t help her, but might help other young women to think twice before having this much surgery.

      • VeryVeryTerryJerry says:

I noticed the same thing, that she seems to have trouble smiling due to all the fillers and surgery. It looks difficult and very unnatural. She’s still SO young! And I still think that is Tyga’s child.

    • whatWHAT? says:

yeah, her face looks SO WEIRD when she tries to smile.

when she’s giving the open-lip pouty look in her insta pics, she looks like a blow up doll, which is bad enough, but the smiling face is downright disturbing.

    • SarSte says:

      Lowkey or maybe highkey?

  3. Elena says:

When my daughter turned 1 we went to the bakery and got a cake, then to the park with my parents. It was the best!

I guess since they have the money for this it’s fine? Idk

    • Dee says:

They truly don’t know what babies like, do they? And it kind of shows how truly immature these dum-dums are, that this is the kind of thing they enjoy (bloody terrifying for the baby, I’m sure — loud, dark, and weird).

      • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

        Dee,

Did you see her little legs kick during the baby shark performance? She seemed to enjoy that a great deal.

    • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

Birthday parties for one year olds are really more for the parents than the baby…that’s how I felt about it with my own kids.

      • Nancy says:

Me too. It’s fun because they’re so sweet at that age. I don’t remember where I saw it, but a parent wrapped up a banana in fancy paper and ribbons for their little one. He was squealing with excitement. So cute. When they’re that young, it’s not the gift, it’s the excitement in the air and ripping paper. I got a banana, I got a banana…..lol 🍌

      • Mariposa says:

I have a friend who had a baby who was very premature, so she didn’t get to enjoy the time after the birth. (I remember ringing her and saying “I don’t know whether to say congratulations or I’m sorry”…it was a terrible time for her.)

Anyway, for the first birthday she had a cocktail party!! She just said that she wanted to be able to celebrate the birth, and that the kid would never know!

  4. RBC says:

    Stormi is very cute!

    • C says:

Yeah, and I really think Kylie and Travis are cute together too. (I can’t believe I’ve said that.

  5. Erinn says:

This is so excessive and over the top and unnecessary, but damn it’s cute. And I really don’t like DJ Khaled outside of him basically just being a living meme at this point… but that bag was suuuuper cute.

    • Brunswickstoval says:

The way he refers to his wife and son is odd.

      • Lucy2 says:

I think it’s kind of funny that he’s like “we have to give kids the best life!” And then in the next sentence is like eh, my kid’s outta town.

      • Erinn says:

Oh 100%. He’s a sexist pig of a human. But I still yell “DEEEEJAAAAYYY KHHHAAAALLEEEDDD” whenever a song comes on, or I’ll be chopping vegetables or something equally mundane and be like “ANOTHER ONE. AND ANOTHER ONEEEE” as I’m doing it. He’s a mess of a human, and I have no idea how his wife lives with him.

    • Clare says:

But also – who brings a present to a party….and then proceeds to unwrap it? So odd.

      • Bryn says:

There’s a kid in my daughters grade one class who throws a fit at bday parties if he doesn’t win prizes for games, lucky cup, etc…his mom has to leave the parties before presents are opened or he absolutely loses it. I noticed it last year when they were in kindergarten and I figured it would be different now that a year has gone by. But we were at a party this weekend and before the gifts were opened, his mom said everyone was getting ready to go and it was his turn first to get ready and leave. The parents of the kid having the party told the kids mom to stay for the rest and she said they had to go to avoid a tantrum and that they would stop at Walmart to get him a toy so he would be happy. It’s bizarre, all the other kids are so nice and excited to see their friends opening presents and having fun. And the kicker is, the kids mom is a teacher. She doesn’t seem to do anything to correct the behaviour, she just throws toys at it and moves on. Kid is going to be an interesting adult that’s for sure.

      • Elena says:

With my nieces it has been awful. If one gets a present the other one has to. Right after Christmas this year they got gifts for no reason when we were out. They also don’t behave for kids who have tons of toys. What bugs me is when they get in trouble their mom makes excuses or blames it on other kids. When they throw tantrums I literally take my daughter out of the room since their own parents don’t discipline them.

      • Megan says:

How else is he going to let us know he spent a ridiculous amount of money on a purse for a one year old.

  6. Brunswickstoval says:

Our first child’s first birthday was at night when she was asleep. It was a party to recognise that we had survived the year. She was there for a bit then went to bed. So I get having a party but for me the first birthday is acknowledging you made it! Drinks all round!!

  7. MS says:

Everything this family does is over the top & very tacky. More money than sense.

  8. Lucy2 says:

Ah yes, nothing says baby’s first birthday like a corporate sponsored circus for social media.

Also, Chanel, what are you doing? French fry containers at a one year old’s birthday party?

    • bucketbot says:

      Ahh, this.

I once watched video on some rich youtuber’s channel where he/she said that you can get just about anything with logos printed on them. This person had some everyday item branded with the logo of either Chanel or Gucci, can’t remember which (Both those brands are very popular with young noveau riche youtuber set) And this is not bought from the said company but from some random seller on instagram or something.

I’m not so sure if this is legal. I imagine these multinational companies can charge them with a lawsuit or its equivalent, but i don’t know since they are being so transparent about it.
It can be that these brands get free publicity but then no, doesn’t make sense either. I don’t know how this works.

      • Swack says:

Pretty sure that it’s not legal as those names/logos are most likely trademarked. We had women selling purses out in front of the pro-baseball stadium here several years back. They had made the purses themselves using cotton material with the teams trademarked logo. For many years after that you could not buy that cotton material anymore because of it (it was a whole story in the newspaper). Wanted to make my daughter a diaper bag out of it at the time and to get any, you could go on line and pay almost $100 a yard.

    • Erinn says:

I mean, I can print anything I want – it doesn’t mean it’s on the up and up haha. Go take a look at etsy. You can find anything on there. There is a local party company in my town that obviously is ripping off Paw Patrol and Frozen and just printing off clipart. Which is “fine” (in comparison) when you’re printing it out and using it as an individual and not a business literally profiting off of it.

      • lucy2 says:

I sell artwork on etsy, so unfortunately I’m well aware of how many people sell copyrighted logos and such on there. They used to be a lot better about taking it down, but not so much anymore.
It’s possible Kylie had those printed without the company’s permission, but given the huge number of followers she inexplicably has, I’d hope someone on her team would be smart enough not to do that.

    • Megan says:

I’ll admit it. I think the french fry containers are cute. It’s a take on the LV logo with Stormi’s initials.

  9. smcollins says:

“Storming can’t even talk and she already called me a broke bitch.”
    😂😂😂😂
But, yeah, excessive doesn’t even begin to describe it. Wow.

  10. Laura says:

    LV, not Chanel fries.

  11. ItReallyIsYou,NotMe says:

It bothers me when regular people do this, because I think of all the money you could be putting towards your child college fund instead. But for some reason it doesn’t bother me as much when celebrities do it, because I think it’s all part of building their brand and when people see the wealth that they can put out they get that wealth back tenfold through their endorsements and whatever else they’re pitching. Kylie is a perfect example of this.

  12. Lj says:

*French fries in Louis Vuitton-branded containers

  13. PhillyGal says:

The party is just another move to keep this idiotic family in the news.

  14. Chaine says:

How long before she chews on and/or vomits on the Chanel bag…

  15. minx says:

    Trash.

  16. Tw says:

    Two words – Tori Spelling.

    • me says:

Kylie will never be broke. She’s almost a billionaire…not to mention the inheritance she will get from her rich dad AND rich mom one day…not to mention Stormi’s father is rich himself.

    • Clare says:

Tw – no. There is absolutely no comparison. Kylie and her partner and legitimately very very wealthy. They probably will make more $ while I write this post, than I will this year. Tori on the other hand is broke and in debt, and needs her mother to pay her rent.

You may or may not like Kylie and Travis…but come on, facts are facts.

    • Tw says:

Missed the point – Stormi is being raised how Tori was raised. It’s not necessarily the right formula for producing a well-adjusted adult.

  17. AnnaKist says:

Blergh. This is rampant consumerism and so beyond ostentatious, it’s nauseating. This is, typically, all about them, and not their baby. Sure, Stormi will get to look at the videos and photos, and I guess spending so big keeps some people employed, so there’s that. But geez…

    • Erinn says:

“This is, typically, all about them, and not their baby. ”

I mean, I agree. But I’m going to play devils advocate and say that most birthdays for 1 year olds are really about the parents more than the child. The kid doesn’t really care that they’re having a party at that age haha.

      • AnnaKist says:

Of course your correct, Erinn, but, oh,you know what I mean… 🙂

      • Erinn says:

I do, AnnaKist haha. I also recall how much my neice haaaated her first birthday. She wanted nothing to do with ANYTHING that was going on. It was a hot day and she was not impressed. But it because such a thing with the grandparents that we all got to sit around watching her sob most of the afternoon because even activities that we knew she liked she didn’t want to do haha.

  18. Swack says:

This party was for the parents not the child.

    • Nancy says:

I wonder if she or any of her half-sisters would do it up so big if it wasn’t going to get ink. Plus it will play out again on their show. It has to be exhausting competing against each other. Kim always claimed she was the reason they were all famous. Bet she never expected the little freckled faced, thin lipped, bratty sister would take over the throne!

  19. keroppi says:

Our son is about a week or two older than Stormi and we had a big party for him. I maybe spent $200-$300 on the party and invited extended family and friends. He won’t remember it, but he had a lot of fun! To be fair it is a milestone birthday, at least for the parents and he probably won’t have such a large party for many years. The next big bash probably won’t be until he is in school, maybe not until he turns 13. Plus, we are likely having only the one child, so why not?

Obviously, we spent nowhere near the amount that Kylie did and that inflatable baby head is scary! But to each their own!

  20. Lala11_7 says:

It was a tone-deaf display of crass opulence that is embarrassing on every level…PERIOD!

    • Kimma1216 says:

      exactly!

    • Anne says:

      This. A thousand times this.

I hear a lot of “They have the money, so it’s their prerogative.” But Christ I just can’t look past the gross inequality. Even liberals are good at just swallowing that shit. Don’t tell me she worked hard and earned her wealth. My mom was a full time school teacher, cooked all our meals, cleaned the house, and did volunteer work on the weekends. That’s hard, important work too but she barely earned a living.

Consumerism isn’t something to aspire to.

      • Mumbles says:

“Consumerism isn’t something to aspire to.” Beautiful. Thanks for this, I was looking for a way to encapsulate my disgust at this display and this sums it up. It’s not that it’s the Kardashians per se. I would be equally disgusted if it was the son or daughter of some oligarch or prince/princess of some despotic kingdom. What angers me is the existence of such excessive wealth being used in such a meaningless and vulgar way. I guess that it’s the Kardashians does make some difference in that they have an inexplicable following and so the thought of some impressionable teenagers seeing this and forming unrealistic and purposeless aspirations based on it makes me mad.

French fries are a delight, whether they’re cooked in your toaster oven or in a LV box. The idea that slapping on an expensive label makes something better grosses me out.

    • Kitten says:

      In a nutshell, THIS.

    • Elena says:

      Agreed, it was ghoulish

    • Hotsauceinmybag says:

      +1000

    • sid says:

Lala, you pretty much described this tacky family’s entire brand. They are just gross at this point.

  21. Kimma1216 says:

Wouldn’t it be nice if they saw how privileged their own life is and used their money philanthropically for other children who struggle to even have just one meal a day. I would love it if this family actually used their un-earned money towards doing good in the world.

  22. beej says:

Imagine if they had of thrown a slightly smaller party, and spent the rest of the money on setting up a charity in Stormi’s name, or made a donation in Stormi’s name, or sponsored a bunch of trees to plant (or something) in Stormi’s name.. they still could have blitzed social media with it and maybe started some good habits to teach their daughter in the future. This consumerist and performative world they choose to live in is not only unhealthy, but setting such a bad example (for all their followers)!

    • Kitten says:

This and the comment right above yours. They have the resources to do amazing things, but this is what they choose to spend their money on. Yay capitalism I guess?

  23. Millenial says:

We put down a plastic tarp and did a “cake smash” (with box cake) when my first turned one, with just us and my parents in attendance. It was cute. He had a ball eating tons of frosting…and then we promptly gave him a bath.

And that was it. He enjoyed it.

  24. Andrea says:

Who cares how much money she spends. It’s a party meant to celebrate and bring people together. Everyone does it at their own level. People don’t need to spend thousands on weddings… but they do because it’s a celebration. Everyone needs to lighten up and stop with the judgemental attitude..

    • Kitten says:

Actually, LOTS of people don’t spend thousands on their wedding. I can think of three couples I know (including my bro and SIL) who did a simple justice of the peace ceremony.

But that’s neither here nor there because a wedding is a one-time event between two ADULTS, not a bday party (one of many) for a baby that will never remember it. So sure, it’s their money and their right to spend it however they want, just as it’s MY right to judge them for it– kind of what happens on a gossip blog, sis. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

      • me says:

My brother and his gf are trying to force my mom to pay for their wedding. She told them if they can’t afford a wedding just go to town hall and sign a damn marriage certificate. It only takes around a hundred bucks to get married !

      • lucy2 says:

        Your mom is awesome, me!
If someone can afford a bigger wedding and that’s what they want, fine, but I can’t imagine demanding that someone else pay for it!

      • me says:

        @ lucy2

I know right? They literally printed out invites, handed them out, gave my mom an invite LAST, and then demanded she pay for the whole wedding ! My mom doesn’t play that sh*t !

  25. Case says:

This is a cute idea for a mega-rich family. That said, it’s overkill for her first birthday — she won’t even remember it! Maybe when she’s a little older it would make more sense.

  26. Valiantly Varnished says:

Eh. I don’t have a problem with it. The first birthday party is always more for the parents anyway. I mean this party was crazy over the top but I know a lot of people who go all out for their baby’s first birthday. It’s an exciting milestone and they want to celebrate it. My Mom threw me a big first birthday party. I have zero memory of it of course but my Mom took tons of pictures which I still have. They are nice to have and look at. I had a Strawberry Shortcake- themed party and cake. And I got my Strawberry Shortcake doll that day which I then carried around everywhere with me for the next theee years. And I vividly remember the doll.

  27. Megs says:

I think it’s tacky as hell. Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.

  28. Murphy says:

She went to a meeting with the craziest most over the top party planner and LA and they handed her a list of shit they could do. She told them to do all of it. Meeting over.

  29. Tiffany says:

Before my baby pics were ruined, there were photos from 1 to 5 where I just destroyed my birthday cakes. Like, to the point where I don’t think my mother could have served much of it to people.

What was great was that other kids at my party followed. I was a leader even then. 🙂

  30. Lala11_7 says:

    It’s amazing…

They spent ALL OF THAT MONEY…even with sponsorship…they STILL had to come out of pocket…BIGLY….

And it STILL looks like cheap, Christmas trash….

I find that the most REMARKABLE thing about ANYTHING the Khardashians do…it always ends up looking…

    Cheap…

    • Tiffany says:

      Thank you Lala.

It just has a look and feel of cheapness. It really is an example of buying labels because you can.

  31. me says:

Hey at least she had a first bday party, I never got one !

  32. me says:

i think they are cute with their daughter

but i am a total kardashian fan girl so ooooo lol

  33. MarcelMarcel says:

It’s tacky but I feel like it’d more newsworthy if Kylie didn’t spend an outrageous amount of money on her daughters first birthday?

  34. Co says:

    Tacky AF. That’s all.

  35. BuddyJack says:

I’m never one to criticize how others spend their legally obtained cash, so no shade from me for that.

But let’s be clear,….any first birthday bash that extends beyond family and 2-3 very close friends is not about the baby turning one . It’s about parental ego and narcissism and the baby is a prop/tool to that.

  36. bella says:

sorry, but I am one of those moms that threw a party around 7 grand for my twins on their first birthday and the only thing I regret is not hiring a videographer to record it.

They were born at just over 26 weeks. We spent months in 5 different hospitals with a handful of surgeries already under their belts (more unexpectedly and planned to come).

It wasn’t a party for them. It was a celebration that we made it to their first birthday. I was a party thanking everyone, near and far, for their support, help, prayers and shoulders to cry on.

We had 140 people there. Friends and family and a ton of kids. It was only at a local rec center that we got for free, but we had Face painting, clowns, pony rides, petting zoo, giant inflatables, hot dog cart, cotton candy machine, popcorn thingy. We hired a small staff to help serve the buffet and help clean up, a full bar with a bartender, rented a giant TV because it was a big football weekend.

In looking back on when the were small and the stupid money we spent on things that they won’t remember (Wiggles concerts, disney on ice, dora and diego live, laurie berkner band concerts…) my father put it in perspective for us (because no, I certainly didn’t grow up like this) – he said that even if they didn’t remember the actual events, the joy and happiness is imprinted deep within them so don’t feel guilty; be happy that you had the money to spend.

So, no, I do not judge how people spend their money on their kids. ever.

    • Suzy says:

The car I’m driving cost less than $7000.00 !

    • Mstak says:

I understand that though! 26 weeks is extremely premature and it IS a huge milestone (that much more given their circumstances at birth)! As long as you could afford it I don’t see the issue.

  37. Sparkly says:

Rich people really want this ‘fast food fries in fancy little cups’ thing to take off.

  38. RoyalBlue says:

I have no problem with the party. It is typical Kardashian style. Kim does the same for her kids too and they hire party planners to plan their baby shower etc at a price where money is no problem. Hey they are stimulating the economy. What is the problem exactly with how other people spend their money? You know the party planners, foodcaterers, bakeries, are making lots of money and keeping people employed.

Lifestyles of the rich and ostentatious.

  39. sommolierlady says:

The whole thing looks like it would be terrifying for a baby. But then again, this wasn’t about Stormi.

  40. Dani says:

It’s not something I would do (or can afford) but they have the money, and Kylie has made her name a brand, and she’s not harming or stealing from anyone in order to afford it. She clearly loves her daughter and can afford to go all out like this. Good for her. Our of all of her sisters, she’s the least harmful.

  41. mycomment says:

a Kardashian being vulgar and crass?!?

i’m shocked — said no one ever.

  42. Ivy says:

There are two resounding truths here:
    1. The inflatable thing is the creepiest thing I’ve ever seen
    2. Parents who throw these kinds of parties for a first birthday aren’t doing it for the kid, they’re doing it for themselves. Not necessarily in a selfish way honestly I think just subconsciously it’s more of a “wow we made it a year, look it’s been a year of US raising this thing!”

  43. Ellie says:

And no doubt she’ll remember every moment of it at one years old.

  44. Mstak says:

The first birthday is always a big milestone for us. I mean we spent maybe 400-500 for my sons first birthday and I do remember it. Sure he won’t but– there’s a lot he won’t remember that we spent money on. Plus we have a large family so you’re looking at minimally 20 people just counting my siblings their spouses and kids.

But my family also likes to find any reason to celebrate so every baby gets a shower 😉

    • me says:

I think it’s nice to celebrate when you have family that actually likes each other. When there is drama you really don’t want to spend time together lol. Count yourself lucky !

  45. atlantic says:

Nothing about this seems appealing or aspirational — just tacky and embarrassing all around.

  46. HeyThere! says:

I saw the video of the inside. Rent and buying everything, custom everything, staff, rides, food, drinks, cake, merch store, butterfly garden, cloud room, renting of property…..I bet she paid low to middle six figures for this!

I went to a million dollar wedding and it was nicer than this. Very, very over the top. I haven’t seen anything like it in person before…I can’t even explain how crazy the wedding was. BUT this is from people worth 100’s of million of dollars. Both the wedding and Stormi’s party. If you can afford it, okay, sure. I think from my upbringing I could never spend that money on one party even if I had the cash. I just don’t value over the top as important. Not my style.

All that being said, 1st birthdays are special. I have ‘big’(100ish people)1st birthday parties, because it’s about celebrating making it. LOL That first year is hard AF and I want to say thank you to the people who supported us.

The first birthday party is for the parents. The child obviously will not remember it. So the parents wanted to throw a party for their friends and their families. Their money, their business.

They may not remember it consciously but I think the babies still have fun. And the pictures are usually for the parents to look back at when their kids become teenagers and hate them. It’s like: See!! I’m not a monster, you’re just a jerk.
But babies also have a field day with a ball of yarn so. They basically live the life of cats with less self-sufficiency.
And I agree; I could care less how you raise your kid but I ain’t shilling out a couple hundred on your 12th child. I get you want to make each kid/pregnancy special but you get what you get. Some moms actually forgo gifts in lieu of donations, optional at that.
Lastly, I couldn’t help myself, but I had a field day thinking of birthday party themes for Stormi because we were snowed in and hated each other’s guts by the 4th hour so we went our separate ways for everyone’s safety. I pictured Stormi Seas and pirate ships. I need a life.

I think Kylie need to look at her life and the way she post everything on social media. Like her 1$ million bag cave. This is so dangerous to post shit like that. Its also iresponsible for the safety of her daughter. One day something bad will happen if she countinue to flaunt her money like that.
