Lauren Cohan had a fan give a macabre reason she no longer watches Walking Dead

I’m sorry for making the title so clickbaity but I honestly can’t fit the entire story in our format. Lauren Cohan was a guest on Busy Tonight last week. She’s promoting her role on ABC’s Whiskey Cavalier with Scott Foley. Lauren described it as a spy show that’s like Mission Impossible meets Cheers. The second episode just aired, it’s doing well in the ratings and will probably be a hit. On Busy’s show, Lauren gave some anecdotes about fan encounters. She said that the most common scenario is that people tell her she looks like Lauren Cohan and then refuse to believe her when she tells them she’s actually her. She also told the story that I mentioned in the title and it was kind of creepy actually.

I have a recurring type of encounter when people don’t think it’s actually me. The waitress [at a restaurant] said ‘you look just like Lauren Cohan.’ I was like ‘I am.’ She’s like ‘no, no, no.’ I [asked my friend] to tell her. She kind of begrudgingly believed me. At an Urban Outfitters [the same thing happened].

I’m too terrified to watching The Walking Dead. Do you ever hear that?
I heard it at an airport. The person said ‘I stopped watching the show. I used to love it and then I saw a real dead body. I was walking in the woods alone. I just want you to tell the creators that they do a really good job of making [the walkers] look dead.’

We were like ‘Oh no, I’m so sorry.’ It was the most chilling [thing].

[From Busy Tonight]

That sounds too random to be made up. It’s possible Lauren invented it but if you ran into a actor from Walking Dead that’s not the first fake story you would come up with. It’s so rare to see dead bodies out in nature and if you didn’t find it traumatizing to recount that’s the type of story you would tell everyone for the rest of your life. Nothing that interesting has ever happened to me so I would probably tell that damn story all the time. I can also see how that experience would sour you on a lot of different shows and movies. I stopped watching Walking Dead because I got mad at the stupid plot twists with my favorite characters dying, but it’s not like I would say that to an actor from the show. It’s not their fault their bosses are making bad decisions and they feel it more than we do. She was smart to get another gig.

Here’s the video. The part quoted above starts at about :55 in:

I don’t watch WD anymore because it’s the same boring formula year after year. Rick and crew find a safe place to settle down, bad guy finds settlement kills some good folks and then promises to leave them alone but will receive gifts of food to stop attacking settlement. Rick and the gang grow angry with bad guy and plan bad guys demise. Bad guy kidnaps a few females or females infiltrate bad guys camp. Good folks die along with bad ones. They also kill zombies..

    • Himmiefan says:

Yep, same story over and over. I watched a little bit of the Alexandria story because of the beautiful houses, then stopped. The death and destruction is just too much after a while too.

    • Zip says:

Rick is dead and now they have a new type of enemy: the Whisperers. You might start watching again.

  2. Sash says:

I wonder what the working environment is like on this show because everyone looks happier after leaving.

  3. Muffy says:

WOW her style is terrible. There’s nothing in these pics I would wear or want anyone else to wear.

    • s says:

The colors are nice-ish? Purple and green are definitely her colors, even though I wish they were a bit brighter.

    • lucy2 says:

I like the idea of the green dress, but it didn’t quite work for me. The color and texture is pretty though.

I never watched TWD because it looked really gross. No thanks.

  4. Norman Bates' Mother says:

I’ve seen 2 pretty massacred dead bodies, inlcuing one with only 1/3 of the head left and 1) yes – I tell the story to everyone to their disgust and 2) the walkers and some characters who died a violent deaths in TWD look pretty real in comparison.

    • Steph says:

We have these cheap news papers in Mexico city and every morning they show dead bodies in the front page. Sometimes they’re really gruesome.

      • launicaangelina says:

        I agree – Mexican newspapers don’t play. It’s gruesome.

      • kim says:

that’s how my mom found out my uncle was killed. someone called my other uncle and emailed our families a copy of the paper and he had a machete in him. it was crazy.

      • Pandy says:

Kim – OMG! That is crazy!!

    • manda says:

I found a dead body in the woods when I was a kid. She was not decomposing yet and she looked like she was sleeping. Thank goodness for that!

  5. Sankay says:

Loved her character on Supernatural and I wanted her to beat the deal with the devil.

Is she gone from TWD? I thought she’s just taking a sabbatical and working on another show.

    • sommolierlady says:

They didn’t kill her or Rick off. They left the door open should they want to return. The Jesus character on the other hand is definitely dead.

  6. s says:

She looks like she could be the third Gyllenhaal sibling.

TWD’s current writing, led by Kang, isn’t too bad. But the show’s lost so much goodwill after the last couple of years with Gimple at the helm, I don’t know anyone still watching it but my husband, and by default me now bc he wants me to watch it with him. I was done after Carl was killed-off & watched faithfully until the last season finale. Now I usually half-watch it by multitasking with it on. It was such a good show pre-Gimple (he’s ruined Fear TWD too, which was never as good as the original, but had improved quite a bit & hit a good stride — but it’s darn right awful now), I don’t think TWD will ever recover now, just have the final season of GOT to look forward to now!

    • Sparkly says:

I absolutely agree with you about Gimple. I was a hardcore fan and nearly gave up with the Carl thing, but I was interested to see what they did when Rick/Andrew Lincoln left. I’m glad he’s not showrunner anymore. It shows.

      • Vaya says:

I can’t stand how they used The Talking Dead show to justify their sh*tty decisions. That’s why I stopped watching all of it. Infuriating.

    • bears says:

I wish Gimple had been replaced about 3 years sooner by Kang. She’s doing a great job with what she’s been handed but I’m afraid they’ve just lost too much momentum. Also, AMC’s commercial breaks during the show are pretty out of hand. They do this f’ing stupid thing now where they come back from a long commercial break, show 30 seconds of the show, then cut to another short commercial break, then come back to the show again. It makes me hate.

  8. Sparkly says:

I have to grudgingly admit that this season has been a lot better. I don’t follow the comics anymore (I used to), so I can’t speak to that, but the tv show has improved. I think the time jump really helped. I was about ready to see civilization actually looking destroyed and grown over and waiting for (not home-)canned food to run out.

My husband caught a body being disposed of in the woods when he was a child. It was wrapped in garbage bags, but it was very obviously a body. He ran to get help and came back to find it gone, with drag marks leading to the nearby quarry. It’s chilling to realize that the killer was hiding while he was there, just waiting for him to leave. He was only like 9 or 10, so the killer could have done something other than hide. He’s very lucky.

Then his mom found a body in a trunk on the side of the road a couple years later. It had obviously been there a while. The cops asked her what she was doing with the trunk, and she said it was a nice trunk and she thought she’d grab it. They offered the trunk back to her after they got the body out, which she declined, but I really hope they were only messing with her.

  9. launicaangelina says:

My uncle passed away last month alone in his home. My mom stopped by his house to check on him. No one answered. She called my sisters to help her get into the house (they all live in the same town). They could not get in either. They called the sheriff, who was finally able to get in through a window. The deputy found him deceased in his bedroom and it appeared he had been dead for several days. The deputy advised her not to see him and she agreed. My mom had checked on him the week before.

The day after he passed, I joined my mom at the funeral home. They also advised her not to see him. Again, she agreed. The Director told us he probably passed not too long after mom saw him the week before.

Mom and I went into his house to see if he a will, life insurance, etc. The stench of a human death is uniquely disgusting and one that I’ll never forget. It permeated the entire house.

When I used to watch the show, I used to think, “their world must have a horrifying stench” and would cringe when blood and guts would get all over the characters during action scenes.

  10. Walking alive says:

WD is not bad now. There’s more action yett not as great as the first years but isn’t that with all tv shows .. Maggie and even Rick may return on day .. their character were not written off.. .. they are testing the waters out there with other acting gigs and WD is their safe haven if they fail at other projects

  11. Rocky says:

I stopped watching when Carl got bitten. I refused to watch him die.

  12. Food Girl says:

I havent had a chance to see Whiskey yet, but I would like to. I have to say, I have watched WD from the start and have followed it through some absolute GARBAGE by Scott Gimple – he is the worst. *But* I will say this season is MUCH better. I was sad about loosing characters, but alternatively, it is refreshing to see the time jump and see new stories. Seriously, Father Gabrielle and Eugene have done a 180 and I love it. The Whisperers are pretty interesting and last night they introduced a new group (the lead was in Fargo Season 2) and it was pretty neat. I have to say there have been some amazing moments with wee Judith – man that kid is something, both as a character and as an actress. Last weeks exchange with Michonne was really, really well done. This week, Carol surprised me with her little bit of humour. Overall, Im glad for the changes and it has refreshed my enjoyment of the show.

  13. Dazed and confused says:

I have watched Whiskey Cavalier and I really like it. Of course, I am biased to like anything with Scott Foley in it. He and Lauren Cohan have great chemistry. Reminds me of shows I used to love when I was a kid, like “Remington Steele” and the like. I also think that Lauren Cohan has a “Top Gun” Kelly McGillis look/vibe about her in the show.
