Duchess Kate wore trousers & a Gucci blouse in London: professional & dated?

Pelosi Weekly Press Conference

The Duchess of Cambridge did an event today! I haven’t been paying attention to the Kensington Palace announcements lately, so I missed this. Partly it’s because Kensington Palace is suddenly so busy, right? I can’t keep up with the now-steady stream of announced events and their in-house coverage of those events. It used to be that the KP social media team would get so bored, they would just post photos of the view outside their office window. Not these days!

We’ve established that Kate is keen, keener than she’s ever been before. She’s also mixing up her wardrobe choices like never before. For today’s trip to the Henry Fawcett Children’s Centre (in south London), Kate decided to go with TROUSERS. I’m shook. These are Jigsaw trousers, and the Daily Mail claims they’re the same ones she wore for the trip to Cyprus last December. They do look the same/similar. Kate paired the Jigsaw trousers with an 1980s-style pussybow blouse from Gucci, which retails for £790. Granted, that style is definitely “coming back” over the past few years, but it still looks so damn dated. Melania Trump would wear that blouse (and probably has).

Kate was highlighting the LEAP program, which is all about building safe and secure families and getting parents and kids talking and bonding. I suspect that this is an important way for Kate to highlight her nebulous solo mental health initiative, which might not even be an initiative.

    Kate + kids= cuteness overload.

And the pictures of her sitting on the floor, totally relaxed with the other parents and children… I can imagine her like that with her own children at their homes

    • jan90067 says:

That pic of her face, watching the baby toddle over, is just adorable. She *has* found her niche. And this could help fill that “broody” feeling, instead of having more kids of her own.

I love this look today. While not a huge fan of pussybow blouses, I love the orchid color (I just bought a great, cotton boat-necked sweater in this color!), and I’m LOVING it paired with actual trousers! Coupled with the repeated lilac Aspinal purse, she looks young, fresh, and professional.

Kudos Kate, where kudos are due!

    • mint says:

She really shines when she does events with kids. This is really a strength of hers and she seems comfortable, at ease and natural at these events. Not everyone is a natural public speaker like Meghan. And even with training, some people just do not enjoy it. Good for her, that she is doing more events like these and I wont shade her for this. I really do hope, that this is the work she enjoys and puts more energy and effort into in the coming years.
I do like the outfit. But I personally would prefer it without the bow- would look more sleek.

      • KNMC says:

Agreed. They both have their strengths, so they can divide and conquer. That’s working the RF to its full advantage.

    • Himmiefan says:

      Yeah, this is her niche.

Who are these people who actively track what she’s worn when? Why do they care?

      • Becks1 says:

Blogs. What Kate Wore is a very good one (there is a spin off for Meghan too) – she details the event and then discusses the fashion. They rely a great deal on tips from twitter and Facebook users, who can identify accessories or outfits almost scarily fast. I am sure the Daily Mail etc probably keep track as well.

  2. Erinn says:

The more I look at the color of the blouse the less I dislike it. But I really really don’t like wide legged pants on most people. There is the odd person that I’ve seen absolutely rock them. But I find them messy looking on most people – and I hate having enough fabric that is swishes a bunch when I walk.

    • Becks1 says:

I think really big wide leg pants (like these) are hard because you need to proportion the rest of the outfit exactly right, and I don’t think the blouse here goes exactly right with it. I think with the slim white shirt/shell and blazer in December the pants looked fantastic.

      • SilentStar says:

I love wide pants and carry them well, but they’re not for everybody. I feel like Kate’s blouse needs more fitted pants, because it all looks so drapey that the fabric swallows her up. Alternatively, she should have tried a more fitted top with the wide pants.

I do kinda love that blouse though.

    • jan90067 says:

Ahhh, Erinn, “one woman’s trash is another’s treasure!” I LOVE high-waisted, wide legged trousers! I have thicker legs (due to some lymphodema and loose skin from a big weight loss, so these cover a lot of “sins” lol). I’m just under 5’2″ and these kinds of pants, with a tucked in shirt/sweater, make my waist look tiny, and when worn with (same colored) even just moderate heels, give me the impression of looooong legs. So yeah, LOVIN’ the look! lol.

ETA: I have mine tailored to *just* skim the floor by 1/4 inch; I don’t have them puddle down.

      • Erinn says:

Don’t do this to my Jan. You’re making me considering trying some on. I’m 5’2″. I think some of my issue is that I’ve got wider hips, and thicker legs, and also a bigger chest. Proportioning properly is tricky.

Next time I see some at the store MAYBE I’ll try some in your honor.

      • Nicegirl says:

@Jan, am gonna copy your wide length trouser hem length. Genius.

      • jan90067 says:

Ladies, I promise… it’s a GREAT look! I’m a size 10-12, so I’m not tiny. But I look really thin and TALL in this look! lol Seriously, I’ve gotten a LOT of compliments, and friends asking how’d I lost more weight, I look so slim, etc. It’s ALL smoke and mirrors! lol. The key, for me, is to make sure your shoes match the color of your pants, and the pants to be high-waisted (not hipsters or mid-waist).

Erinn ❤️. My weight is also from the waist down for sure, and I don’t know…but this works for me! I’m certainly not flat chested, but I find a striped sweater, or a not too blousy blouse tucked in works well, making my chest appear curvy, but “smaller”, if you know what I mean. Again, make sure your shoes are the same color as your pants for the “length”. I prefer black and navy for my pants, and put the color in my tops.

Nicegirl, ❤️ (Keeping them off the floor saves the hem *and* on the dry cleaning bill! 😏)

    • Yup, Me says:

I think she looks really nice and the color is pretty, but her business attire is a bit like her initiative seems- unstructured and a little messy feeling- like it needs help finding a direction.

    • Agirlandherdog says:

I love a wide leg pant. However, she needs to have hers hemmed. They’re eating her feet.

      • AnnaKist says:

I agree. Too-long pants with the bottoms billowing and dragging on the ground not only look exceedingly untidy, but are a bloody trip hazard. I’m only five feet tall, so every single pair of trousers I’ve ever owned since my childhood ended has had to be taken up. I always hem them myself, about 1/4” above the floor.

      • Dear heavens, is there not one competent seamstress among the many staff employed by the Royal Family? Kate and Meghan both wear their trousers far too long and it looks untidy and unprofessional. That aside, Kate looks lovely here and has been looking confident and happy lately, good to see.

      • Still_Sarah says:

@ AnnaKist : I am 5’6″ but I apparently have short legs, so I buy petite pants when I can. Since most stores only tell women under 5’3″ to wear petite pants, I didn’t figure this out until a sharp eyed sales clerk told me to try them on. And wouldn’t you know it, they were perfect. And yes, I agree – too long pants are a trip hazard.

    • isabelle says:

Kate is one of those people who look great in wide legs pants. I’m apposite think 90% of people can’t carry off skinny pants or crop pants but most believe thy look good in them. They mak eyou look short, “thicker” and squashed. Wide legs pants at least make you legs look long, thinner with a smaller waist/hips. Skinny pants do the very opposite. Short, squat with a thicker waist. Jeggings on most people, forget about it.

      • BeanieBean says:

        Agreed.

      • Erinn says:

I think it depends on the degree of wide and skinny. If your pants are so tight that they show every lump, then you’re going to look larger. But if you’re short – and your pants are really wide your bottom half will look like big block. Sure your waist might look tiny, but the bottom half can still look really short because of the widening.

    • Milla says:

I love the color. It is feminine and delicate, but i agree about the pants. They look great but lets see other styles on the streets.

  3. Kitty says:

Its different. I love the blouse but wish the trousers were more tailored.

  4. Seraphina says:

I think she looks great. Well, as far as Kate great is concerned. Professional and appropriate.

  5. Astrid says:

It’s not something I’d wear. However, she looks to be dressed appropriately to meet kids and play on the floor. No shade

  6. Jfromfla says:

Yipeee! She wore slacks, I’ll give her credit for that, but it looks like she is swimming in her clothes!

    • Kittycat says:

I think her kids could fit into those pant legs!

But overall it’s a good look.
      The shirt is overpriced though.

  7. Monica says:

The racist Gucci again? I have no words.

    • ByTheSea says:

That’s what I came on here to say. She hasn’t worn this much Gucci before. Why is she supporting a racist label?

    • Bluthfan says:

Yeah, feels like she is sending a message since she didn’t really wear Gucci all that often before.

Plus her outfit looks stupid. She’s way overdressed for the event and booth items are too big on her.

  8. Sash says:

Honestly, I love the outfit. Vintage/dated is in right now and I like that color on her.

    • geekychick says:

      Yeah, this is
something every career woman could wear today. It’s fashionable but safe, and classy.
I actually wear similar style when I’m lecturing at the Uni. I look very young so I have to dress profesionaly for my students to recognise me as a professor. 😀

    • Megan says:

I have a pussy bow blouse and I love it. It reminds me of clothes my mom wore in the 1980’s, but in a good way.

    • AnnaKist says:

I really like it, too, Sash. I’ve often said these jewel colours really suit her, and I’m a sucker for wide-leg pants. Yesterday, I was helping my best friend’s daughter with her assessment task. She needed to interview an “older person” *smirk* about “days gone by”. Apart from giving accounts of significant news events, music and food of the time etc., she wanted to include some fashion, as she also studies textiles and design. Out came the albums, so we could find some photos to scan. There was one of me at some event in the late 70s, wearing an almost identical blouse. Even the colour is similar, although the pants I wore were more flared than wide-leg. Everything old is new again, hey?

  9. Stephanie says:

That look is so dated, I don’t like it

  10. Rae says:

I like the outfit. It’s the bag which I think doesn’t sit well for me.

That blouse is in style and the colour suits her. I would love to have the silhouette and height to pull off that look.

  11. MCV says:

    Very Melania

  12. Charlie’s angel 😂

  13. BaronSamedi says:

The more I think about it the more it seems like Kate is the actual problem with the ‘dated’ looks? I mean, style throwbacks are a thing and when executed right they can be fresh and chic.

I just closed my eyes and imaged someone like the Queen Letizia or Queen Rania in exactly the same outfit and it suddenly completey worked? So it must be something about Kate, the hair maybe, that makes everything she wears seem dowdy and boring instead of classic and chic.

    • Becks1 says:

I keep saying this and people keep shouting me down because “vintage is in!!!!” but that misses the point.

I don’t find this outfit to be “dated” but I definitely have found others of hers to be so and I do think it has to do with the styling – shoes, how she does her hair, etc. Even if these older looks are coming back into style, you still have to style them appropriately.

      • BaronSamedi says:

Yeah, I guess that’s it. Styling is really so important. I also feel like even if “vintage is in” there’s a difference. A lot of the old cuts get subtly updated and change colors.

In this case I feel like a simple cigarette pant would have taken this look to the next level. She already has pretty much 80’s/90’s hair – adding the clothes takes the look from cool to WTF immediately.

      • Becks1 says:

A cigarette pant would have looked fantastic here, even with the bow on the blouse (which I really don’t like in general lol.)

I do think also some people can pull off certain looks, and others can’t. Its kind of like charisma – but not the same thing – in that I cant put my finger on it. Maybe its just having “style” or something. But like you said, different people can wear the exact same thing and some will look chic and some wont.

      • Linda says:

        @Becks
I guess it’s just different strokes for different folks because I do not feel Kate looks dated at all. As a black woman blessed with a big bum and hips I would totally style my trousers with a pussy bow blouse just like Kate to balance out my proportions. Shrugs.

      • Ina says:

Bingo! Someone finally said it! While you’re thinking of Queen Rania and Letizia, I’m also thinking of Crown Princess Mary and how she would totally rock this vintage look and make it look fresh and exciting. Kate, however, is a fashion kryptonite. She just doesn’t have innate style nor charisma to pull it off.

      • Becks1 says:

@Linda I actually agree with you in general. I don’t think this particular outfit looks this dated, and some women could wear this exact look and look great in it. Proportion has so much to do with it.

    • mynameispearl says:

@baronsamedi maybe you just dont like Kate? If you think the exact same outfit would be nice on other people, then you just don’t like the woman in the clothes, which colours your view of the whole package.

I like it, she looks great. I think the pussybow blouse is a classic.

    • Amy Too says:

I have a theory about this: why Kate seems to be the thing that makes her outfits look dated and not necessarily the clothes, themselves. I think it might be because she’s so painfully thin. She reminds me of my grandma and lots of other little old ladies who seem to just shrivel up. Her thinness, leads to her looking extra bony and wrinkled (as it does with anyone—a fuller figure and face show less wrinkles). Combine that with her usual slumped shoulder, bad posture and she reminds me of old ladies. She when we’re looking at her, there usually aren’t any “clues” that our eye can catch that tell us she’s actually a young, modern woman: her accessories are generally bland and old lady-ish, her hair (color, length, and styling) and makeup are very dated. The way she holds her purse often reminds me of the 92 year old queen. The way she interacts with people and generally seems to be rather shy, stupefied, and fragile (unless she’s around babies) seems like a woman from another time period who isn’t used to working or venturing out in public. Her seeming reverence for her husband and their whole relationship with lack of visible outward displays of affection seems very 1950s and earlier housewife. It’s the combination of the never seeing anything truly fun, young, fresh, or modern on her/about her and the old lady things that make her seem so hopelessly unstylish.

      • Snowflake says:

^^^Yes, i think that might be it. That’s the exact same vibe I get from her. There’s no hint of anything modern

    • Snowflake says:

I think it is Kate. Every time I see her, i think “is this how they dress in the UK?” She always looks so old fashioned to me in her dress. Maybe it’s the hair, kinda got that 70s look to it. I don’t see very many women curl their hair like that. And i doubt mean old fashioned in a good way. She looks dowdy. Now, I have never liked blouses like this, on anyone. Maybe her vintage look goes too far and makes her look like she’s literally from that time period. Personally I prefer more modern, clean lines, minimalist looks.

  14. Weaver says:

I know I’m going to get shushed but I think Meghan is influencing Kate in small ways. The wide leg trousers is not something Kate would have worn pre-Meghan but she’s worn them twice in the past couple of months.

I think when Kate came into the royal family she was less assured so she dressed like the elder royals with all the coat dresses and matronly looks. Enter Meghan with her more modern separates and its like a light bulb went off for Kate. She’s realizing royal style doesn’t have to be restrictive.

That said, the 80s pussybow Blouse is all Kate. I have no idea why she like dressing like an 80s librarian.

    • Coz' says:

Agreed. And that’s a normal thing. I am influenced by my friends, coworkers and even randoms I cross pass with on the streets.
I wish they would both influence each others on better tailored outfits though.
I mean I like thefact that the trousers are baggier than in Cyprus (that’s when they felt dated to me) but they are way too long.

      • Megan says:

Kate’s regular stylist is on maternity leave. She is clearly working with an actual professional, rather than an assistant who was promoted to stylist.

    • Silas Marner says:

I also think that Meghan has influenced Kate to wear trousers.

I like this version better than Kate’s first try in Cypress. The color of the blouse is very nice. I wish there was less fabric in the trousers.

Gucci is a bad choice because of racism and price I would like Meghan and Kate to stop wearing such expensive clothes for daytime events.

    • Yup, Me says:

I wonder if it’s that she gets guidance from her mother on her clothing? My mother was a working woman in the 80’s and 90’s and the work clothing advice she gives me can sometimes be a little dated. She’s often trying to get me to wear blazers with shoulder pads and silk or woven shells with scarves. She LOVES that look and I’m like 1990 called and said your look is a whole entire mood.

      • Becks1 says:

I think she looks to her mother and also the queen and Camilla – which initially seems like it would make sense, why not look to the women who are in similar positions as you? (so she and Camilla will both be QC, the queen is obviously the queen, etc.) but they are also a lot older than she is; she should not be looking at her 92 year old grandmother-in-law for fashion advice. She SHOULD be looking at people like Mary of Denmark, Victoria of Sweden, Letizia of spain, etc. They are much closer to her in age and always look appropriate, even if I don’t love every single thing they wear.

  15. Becks1 says:

I don’t like those pussy bow necklines, so I don’t like the blouse because of that. But I do really like that color for the blouse, paired with the black pants (which is weird because I don’t like her Emilia Wickstead dresses in that color – or whoever designs those pleated dresses she likes so much.)

I said above that I think the proportions are off, the blouse is just a bit too flowy with the pants? a nice cashmere turtleneck would have looked a lot better IMO. Or maybe even just if the blouse didn’t have the bow?

BUT, now that I’m done being critical – the color is nice on her like I said, and I love seeing her in trousers, I think she looks a lot better in them than a lot of her skirts and dresses, and especially for an event like this, as they gave her more freedom to get on the floor etc.

  16. Beach Dreams says:

This looks awful. Such an unflattering way to style these trousers. She looks like a 70s secretary. And she deserves criticism for wearing Gucci yet again after the blackface controversy. Of course the media will look the other way.

    • IE says:

Didn’t Gucci apologize? And many rappers are still wearing Gucci, the same for celebrities

      • Kittycat says:

Rappers shouldn’t be the measure of most things.

Also Gucci apologized for a clearly racist statement that should never have happened in the first place.

    • Linda says:

      @Beach Dreams
How is this an unflattering way to style trousers? I have seen wide legged trousers styled like this in several magazines, in real life and even Mary of Denmark has worn this look and she looked great.

    • Its Ok says:

They not only apologized, but also explained their actual inspiration was a performance artist called Leigh Bowery. The inspiration is obvious, black wasn’t the only color the sweater came in, they pulled it immediately after it was pointed out and didn’t draw out the situation for attention. Everything about the situation screams actual mistake and not intentional racism.

  17. Heather says:

She’s adorable with children. She seems to enjoy those engagements the most. But her outfit does not look like it fits, it looks way too big on her, the top and the trousers surprisingly (as she is the queen of bespoke) need serious tailoring.

  18. TeddyPicker says:

Love the blouse, but the trousers unbalance the silhouette. Also I think solid purple/black is a bad colour combo.

She interacts with kids so well. If she leaned into this aspect of her work, developed her interest in early life/baby and mother mental health, instead of keen-signalling she wouldn’t get nearly as much flack!

  19. Ader says:

Excuse me while I sit over here and be a cynical bitch for a second…

I know, I know…we’re not supposed to compare and talk about Kate’s competitiveness out in the open, but DAMN! I feel like she’s done more since Meg came around than the whole five years prior. I’m sorry, but nobody can convince me that her new keen-ness is not, at least in part, driven by social / status competition with her new sister-in-law.

I like it. It’s a reminder that there’s a personality behind that fortified proper facade. Phew!

This particular outing? I feel like planning included something along the lines of: “We need to get some pics of Kate with babies! Gather ye babies! Rainbow it up!”

    Hey, whatever works!

    • Beli says:

Well either that or it’s a complete and utter coincidence that after more than seven years of being royal Kate just happened to suddenly decide to have a work ethic at the very same moment her sister in law joined the family…

But hey, if it gets her off her butt and out on the job, it’s a good thing.

A lot of Kate’s engagements seem to follow the ‘get Kate photographed with kids’ pattern and always have. I get it, it’s safe, puts the engagement beyond criticism and she does seem to be more comfortable with it now than she used to be.

  20. Mstak says:

Not a fan of the bottom but the tops is pretty. I don’t see it as dated.

I also don’t see her as boring in this outfit regarding a comment higher up.

  21. Lulu says:

I love the blouse and color, and I like that she’s wearing pants. But the shape of the pants and lack of tailoring ruin it all for me. Kate in those pants looks androgynous. She has narrow hips and is SO SO SKINNY. Then the Brecken-girl hair….where is the headband to complete the look? Altogether looks like 80s flashback. She’d look better in a high waist pant to balance her hips and torso. And I miss the long bob.
But kudos overall on finding her niche and getting into her signature duchess look.

  22. tempest prognosticator says:

She looks very pretty. She has the height for the wide-legged pants to work. The blouse is a nice spring color. Her hair and makeup are on-point. She seems happy and confident which is attractive.

  23. Flying fish says:

The portions and the color of the top is just not working. The pussy bow and the looseness of the top is another problem.
I am happy to see Kate in pants especially as she was sitting down and interacting instead of flashing…

  24. Lisa says:

The trousers throw off the look. I do not think Kate suits pants or at least not the ones she has been wearing. I guess it is because she is long waisted.

  25. TheOriginalMia says:

It’s too much fabric. She’s being swallowed in fabric. But I applaud the effort to dress professionally and with a purpose. She knew she’d be on the ground with the babies and dressed accordingly.

  26. claire says:

Surely she can find a middle ground between jeggings and these? She’s drowning in these pants!

    • Kittycat says:

Kate would benefit from investing in some suits that fit.

      • Ashby says:

Yes, Kate needs a more professional wardrobe, suits would be a nice addition and she could also wear the pieces separately.
One time the suit pant with a silk blouse, next time with a thin cashmere sweater or shirt…and so on.
Kate needs to move out of this matronly and dated style and the bouncy dress/coat dress button style with the juvenile hemlines, ridiculous jeggings and hoof like wedges.
She has been with the BRF for 7 years, it’s time to look like a professional royal.
Kate certainly has the resources and the access to many different choices, no excuses.

    • Bailie says:

      @ Claire :
Exactly, there is plenty of choices between the h*deous jeggings Kate loves so much and these wide – legged harem like pants.
I’m no fan of pussy bow blouses, but I think this blouse would work much better with a
slim – legged pair of pants, it seems like too much volume of fabric blowing around at the top = the blouse and the pants = at the bottom.
Kate often seems to have a problem with proportions. It looks like her legs and feet are being swallowed by the black fabric.
To me the whole look is dated and outdated.
I don’t understand why is this so hard for Kate, a pair of black or charcoal grey slim – legged pants and a thin cashmere turtleneck or V-neck or crew – neck or if she doesn’t like sweaters a simple silk blouse – shirt style or a cotton button down shirt.
Kate doesn’t have much sense of style, no BRF should ever be a fashionista , but a bit of style goes a long way.

    • isabelle says:

These pants a re much bigger improvement than her jeggings, which most people can’t and don’t look good in.

  27. Chrissym6 says:

I agree. This is her element. She should stick to events like this. Her face when interacting with those kids looks so natural. Her hair and makeup looks good The outfit is appropriate for getting on the floor with kids.

  28. Beli says:

Love the colour of the blouse, don’t like the style of the fact that it’s Gucci (again, after wearing them so recently too)

And trousers! I am shook! She’s worn trousers more in the last six months than the six years before that! And I like these ones, this is why people kept saying they wanted to see her in slacks, dammit!

  29. Emby says:

Blouse is on trend. It’s nice.

  30. JadedBrit says:

Change the blouse colour to blue and you have Margaret Thatcher ca 1983. She’d – in my opinion – suit a boat or a softly draped neckline so much more… But she does look genuinely happy to be around the children, and it’s a positive step re her long-term plans to get involved and hands on with her early youth project.

  31. HK9 says:

I like the outfit but the bottom of the pants need to be tailored properly…but great for the event!!

  32. L84Tea says:

I love it because it’s different! I’m so happy she’s finally wearing pants!

  33. Maria says:

Very nice look. She looks happy.

  34. Lightpurple says:

Melania DID wear the blouse, in pink, to the presidential debate after the “Grab them by the …” tape was released

  35. MarcoPoloBaby says:

I LOVE trousers on her. She is so cute I can’t stand it. I just wanna scoop up her and Meg as my shoulder angels and walk around telling people they are amazing, strong, and loved, and hand out flowers.

She needs a fourth baby ASAP.

  36. Cee says:

YES to the whole outfit. She looks professional, chic and comfortable while sitting on the floor. She looks 100% engaged.

  37. vava says:

Gucci doesn’t know how to attach cuffs to a sleeve properly. LOL. They are backwards. Not a “design detail” I like. The color is nice on her. The style of the blouse certainly feeds into her old lady vibe, too. Not sure these are the same trousers she wore before, but maybe. I like the bag.

I definitely think she’s influenced by what she’s seen with Meghan.

    • BeanieBean says:

I thought those were odd, too. I guess they thought it was being clever of fashiony, but I just thought they looked odd. I know it would bug the heck out of me to have the buttons on my cuff to the front.

    • Erica says:

Bloggers have said Kate’s wearing the blouse backwards. Unclear whether she did it knowingly.

    • Molly says:

She’s wearing the whole shirt backwards. The original has the buttons down the back and the cuffs in the right spot.

    • Ahoyoy says:

Gucci’s quality is a disaster. Also, this blouse could have been purchased in good quality for about $1000 less.

However, this is a professional outfit. Finally. Are the proportions off? Yes. The pants need to be a bit higher waisted. Is that purse ugly and out of place? Yes. Someone buy her an Hermes Kelly. But this is what she should default to wearing all of the time. It’s unassuming and appropriate.

  38. jamie says:

She wore an 800 pound blouse to play with babies? I wish these royals would get a reality check.

  39. Anare says:

There is something about the long ties on that blouse that bug me. It seems like an odd outfit to wear to play with babies on the floor. The long hair worn in that style is adding to the “dated” look. She has no sense of fashion.

  40. KNMC says:

I’m in the minority. I absolutely love this ensemble on her. It looks fresh and modern, and I wish she’d dress more like this.

  41. Cerys says:

It’s good to see her wearing trousers and looking business-like for an official function, I don’t particularly like the trousers as they are too wide for her but at least she is trying. The blouse is a lovely colour and that style is becoming fashionable again.
The pictures of her with the children are lovely and she is engaging well with them. She seems happier and more confident at events with children so she should play to her strengths and do more in this area.

  42. Linda says:

I love this ensemble on Kate and I’ll wear this in a heartbeat

  43. KatieBo says:

I love this look! This style has been back for a while- I like it!

  44. Sparker says:

Both items need to be worn with a casual and more fitted item to off-set the stuffiness, and that bag doesn’t help either.

  45. Beth says:

Excellent! The wrong with the pants is that they could’ve been tailored to fit better. Maybe if the pussybow blouse wasn’t that color, Melania wouldn’t pop into my mind. Kate needs to wear pants and blouses more often, she looks awesome

  46. Monique says:

I like it she looks modern I even like the color l…go Kate

  47. Guest says:

The color combo is nice but omg those pants are awful. It’s good for her that she found what she can work with. If that’s toddlers, kids, and sports then let her have it.

  48. Shan says:

Pussy bow blouses and wide leg trousers are both in style and have been for awhile… it’s fine not to like certain trends, or the execution of an outfit, but I’m always intrigued by where some people are getting their fashion news.

    • Bluthfan says:

There’s a difference between just blindly throwing on trendy clothes and pulling together an outfit that is trendy. It’s too much all together. She’s drowning in fabric.

    • Becks1 says:

Many of us have said that it IS the execution of this outfit that we don’t like…..

  49. magnolia says:

Nothing dated about it. Elegant and timeless. I covet this for my own wardrobe.

  50. CrystalBall says:

Droopy bow, droopy blouse, droopy trousers. And lets not forget the droopy hair. This look is a no-no.

  51. Mia says:

I like the blouse and pants but they look so big on her. Would love to raid her closet.

  52. Becks1 says:

Oh, you know what blouse I think I would have loved with these trousers? that white swiss dot one she has. Wait I just googled. Not swiss dot. but the blouse she wore for the HuffPo guest editing thing. Just a biiiiit slimmer, still feminine and a bit frilly.

  53. Mads says:

I actually like this outfit as it makes a great change from what she normally wears, but Kate is too thin; I know that she is naturally slim but the weight loss is very noticeable now and I do hope that she is ok.

  54. FredsMother says:

Lovely blouse. The colour is great on the Duchess. The pants don’t work for her because she has no hips or waistline. So the pants just hangs there.

This engagement works for her because she clearly enjoys babies.

  55. Sunnee says:

Those trousers are hideous- so much fabric! Considering she’s tall and slim, trousers should be a slam dunk. The blouse is meh, but I just can’t get worked up over how dated it is because the slacks are such an affront.

  56. mar says:

I think Kate looks amazing and I also think Megan is motivating Kate to do more. Its a win/ win lol

  57. hildegarde says:

I actually love this look. I was one of the few who hated that olive green blazer + trouser combo she wore a few months back. But this is nice and the colour really sings on her and the whole look reflects her preferences, while I don’t think that olive look did.

  58. Shannon Malcom says:

I never have liked pussy-bow blouses, but I do love that color! I think Kate has a real heart and love for kids and that’s a gift for real. My friend and I were just talking about this yesterday. You can like kids and even have kids of your own, but still not have that gift. I’m that person, I love my sons with all of my heart and I’d never hurt or be mean to a child, but I just don’t relate to all kids on that special level. Honestly, if they’re not mine, they get on my nerves after a short period of time, and that’s okay. But we all need to know our strengths, I hope Kate leans into this more. I think together, with divide and conquer, her and Megan can make a formidable team.

  59. A says:

She looks good, but the pants seem a bit overlong on her, no? She could get her clothes better fitted, if you ask me. /snark

I don’t like pussy bow blouses. I associate them with Melania and the 70s.

  60. Kelly says:

    I love this on her

  61. Casey20 says:

We know The Duchess loves clothes but can The Duchess speak? Does anyone have a link to speech given by Kate. I would love to read/hear substance from Kate….not just clothes.

  62. Call_me_al says:

Way to go focusing mental health initiatives on the youngest where it can do the most good via prevention!!!!!!!
