Duchess Meghan plans to ‘extend an olive branch’ to the White Markles?

Have you noticed that Thomas Markle has NOT been spewing toxicity around the British papers for weeks now? Toxic Tom got played by his daughter with that whole “handwritten letter” thing, and maybe that was the breaking point for coverage about Meghan’s terrible family relations. So considering that Toxic Tom is being quiet and licking his wounds, why in the world would “sources close to Meghan” remind people about Thomas and even Samantha? That’s what the Daily Mail claims – that their sources say that Meghan plans to extend an olive branch to the White Markles after she gives birth to Polo Baby. Yeah, I doubt it.

Meghan Markle is considering ‘extending an olive branch’ to her estranged father after she gives birth to her first child next month, DailyMail.com can reveal. A source close to the Duchess of Sussex, 37, said that although the royal had been left miserable by months of embarrassing revelations, she hopes the birth will mark the start of a new chapter. Meghan has also told friends that she understands the pressure her US-based family members are under and hopes they will use their position ‘to make a difference rather than criticize her’ in future.

The insider said: ‘Meghan understands the pressures of intense media scrutiny and she is saddened by what her family have had to endure. She plans to extend an olive branch to the family and invite them to visit after the baby is born – her sister [Samantha Markle] included. Meghan hopes and prays that the baby will bring her family back together.’

The friend also told DailyMail.com that Meghan has been left baffled by her family’s constant calls for her to spend more time with them, saying that she has always been short of time for reunions with relations due to her busy schedule. According to the source, her former life as an actress also kept her away for long periods of time but her family did not complain then and supported her instead. The source added: ‘Meghan’s family is well aware that she has always been busy and have always supported her efforts in the past, despite it leaving her little time to spend with them. Her royal duties have kept her incredibly busy and she takes her new responsibilities very seriously.’

[From The Daily Mail]

I have a theory about this, because of course I do. As we saw with that People Magazine cover story which Meghan organized with her friends spilling the tea and correcting the record, I think Meghan has always and will always play the long game. She’s not merely thinking about “I’ll try to reconnect with my dad after the baby comes.” She’s testing out a strategy and hoping to keep her father quiet around the birth. If and when Thomas runs to TMZ as soon as she gives birth, she’ll be able to say “well, I was going to attempt a reconciliation but I still can’t trust him now.” This is a carrot-and-stick approach to dealing with toxic narcissists – you give them enough hope for a bigger payout further down the line so you can keep them in line.

I heard this on some podcast recently and I don’t believe it for a second. Anything is possible, but I can’t see MM going back to these people, ever.

    • Erinn says:

The only way I can see it happening is in a way that’s a chess move. Something very minimal that just continues to make the others look bad. That said – I really hope she’s done with them. But I also wouldn’t blame her if she wanted to trap them in their own game.

      • jan90067 says:

Kaiser, I had the very same thoughts when I read this the other day. This is just to keep them quiet until after the baby is born, so she can have a little peace of mind, give birth, bring Polo Baby home, and just enjoy this time. I think after a week or two we will start to hear “noises” from Psycho Sam and Toxic Tom about “where is my invitation to the christening? WAHHH MEGHAN IS *&^%$%!” And, as you said, Meg will be able to say, “See, I *was* going to reach out, but you’ve proven you will keep trashing me”.

Brilliant, really. But let’s face it, even if she DOES reach out, you KNOW that TT and PS will start giving interviews about H&M’s home, the baby, what was said…try selling pics… and the whole thing starts again.

      • Lorelei says:

@Erinn/Jan you’re right. That’s the only way this makes sense. Go on the offensive before those cretins start bitching about it. Meghan is too smart to actually go down that road, though, IMO. She has to know the relationships are not salvageable at this point.

  2. Bethany Karger says:

Has anyone noticed that Meghan hasn’t been wearing her engagement ring in the last few photos? I’m wondering if her fingers are retaining fluid and it currently doesn’t fit.

    • Becks1 says:

Yeah, I’m surprised because she doesn’t look swollen at all, but I know for me the fingers were the first things to “go”, lol.

ETA and if she had the ring sized absolutely perfectly, so it fit snugly on her finger, the least amount of swelling could make it uncomfortable.

    • Swack says:

I read that IIRC on the Daily Mail. I only looked at the headline because I figured it was going to be some put down of Megan for not wearing it. Another reason (and swelling could be the main reason) may be they want to make sure that it is secure somewhere other than where she is giving birth. She’s at the point in her pregnancy that she could go into labor any time. I was 16 days early with my first one.

      • Dee says:

I think she’s looking much fuller in the face, and so makes sense her fingers would be swollen too. I can’t believe her tiny ankles! My feet were like loaves of bread at the end of my pregnancy.

      • jan90067 says:

Her ankles are so slim though, they could look “normal” to us, but are “swollen” for her! 😊 She has very slim legs/ankles!

I did notice she was wearing only the Welsh gold band the other day, and figured she had some swelling. I can’t stand to put on a ring when my fingers feel that way.

    • Lorelei says:

@Bethany I’m glad I’m not the only one who noticed that! I agree with the others that she’s far enough along that her fingers are probably swollen enough to make it uncomfortable to wear. (I would like to think this might shut up the “Meghan’s not really pregnant!” crowd, but it’s ridiculous to hope that those crazy people might all of a sudden think logically.)

I wish CB would do a betting poll for the due date! It would be fun to see everyone’s guesses.

      • Heather says:

When I was pregnant, my rings fit in the morning, by 3 they didn’t. So if she’s going to be out all day, she probably leaves the diamonds in a safe place so she’s not tugging it on and off all day.

    • Carmen says:

I had to have my engagement ring cut off my finger in my seventh month. It was a tad snug even before my pregnancy and by the time I was seven months gone it was unendurable.

    • lh says:

During my last trimester with my first child, I woke up one morning, literally overnight, and my wedding ring was constricting my finger (I would sleep with my ring on). I dunked my hand in ice water, put crisco all over the finger and by the end of the day, I had to have it cut off. It was painful.
Next pregnancy, I didn’t bother wearing my ring during my last trimester.

  3. Becks1 says:

I can see her reaching out to her father in a very limited fashion after the baby is here. I don’t see her reaching out to Samantha, ever.

    • Swack says:

The only way I see her reaching out to him is with a birth announcement and he would sell that to the tabloids. I would not give that man the time of day if I were her.

    • windyriver says:

My theory is, MM’s attorneys made a deal with the DM not to take action over publication of her private letter, in return for the DM no longer paying Tom and Sam for interviews; that’s why we haven’t heard from them in a while.

An article like this is just a way of getting around that agreement and bringing the subject back up again, as the baby’s birth is imminent.

It’s as good a theory as any. I agree, maybe reaching out to Tom, someday, but Samantha, never, they’ve had no relationship for years.

      • smee says:

        that seems plausible

      • Jb says:

        excellent theory.

      • jan90067 says:

Could be… but that would mean they’d have to make deals with all the other tabloids, too. Toxic Tom and Psycho Sam have run to The Sun and The Mirror, too.

      • Becks1 says:

@windyriver it doesn’t sound impossible to me as a theory. they really did shut up after the letter incident, right? (the only place I “follow” the Markles is here, so if its not discussed here then I don’t know about it, ha.) And then there was talk of Meghan “pursuing legal options” or something against the Mail. So maybe there was an agreement reached.

      • Sharon Lea says:

I like your theory, very plausible.

      • Sparkly says:

I hope your theory is right. Cut off a big gravy train. Good.

I also agree with Kaiser that she is dangling this carrot and waiting to see how they behave. I don’t think she ever plans on letting Samantha around her kid, but we’ll see.

      • Lolo says:

Maybe except the DM has a ton of $$ and they regularly settle with celebrities who sue them rather than fight (they’ve paid Melania at least twice-that woman sues everyone for everything). The thing with discovery in a lawsuit is that it goes both ways. If you follow the timeline of the story, Meg wrote that letter thinking it would get out and then when six months went by and Thomas still hadn’t leaked it (because even he wasn’t stupid enough not to realize it actually made him look terrible), she engineered its release by having her friend casually drop its existence into the People article. Then they casually floated that they COULD technically sue and the entire affair created an overwhelming tide of public sympathy that was enough to shame the DM and the RRs for their biased reporting of her and everyone started being nicer (not totally nice, but nicer) and that’s what she and Harry wanted all along anyway so mission accomplished. But a lawsuit could reveal these behind the scenes machinations so I actually think the DM might have been like, sure, sue us. It’s hard to prove harm if you’ve actively enginered a situation. Certainly they have a team of lawyers who do nothing but assess their risk on each and every story so I would think they would have weighed everything before they even published the letter.

  4. Tiffany says:

Funny, the Ragland relations seem to be handling the pressure well.

    • Lily says:

Not one word from Doria’s brother and his family nor friends from yoga, church, work, not even the neighbours. Nobody is saying anything.

    • Leyton says:

It goes to show it’s not a “media is hounding us and we’re forced to talk” excuse for why they sell her out. Who’s been more hounded than her mother?

  5. qtpi says:

I don’t see a reunion happening. She will just give them air and make them seem more important. Samantha will be able to make even more money when she sells a story. I wouldn’t let them within 3 miles of the baby.

  6. Anna says:

Nope, I don’t believe this for a second. This is just nothing but a made DM story. I think the olive branch was the letter she wrote to her father – and he turned around and broke her trust in a very public manner. The best thing for her to do is not to reach out and move on with her life.

  7. Leyton says:

Sounds like Samantha was their source with her wishful thinking. Anything stating Meghan has plans to reconcile with her is clearly a flat out lie.

At this point, Meghan is focused on welcoming her new addition and getting Frogsmore ready. She’s already begun wrapping it up with her patronage and seeing them privately.

The Markles are not in that equation. Thomas might still have a chance but I don’t see that happening for a few good months.

  8. Janey says:

poor woman must be exhausted with all this nonsense. I can’t imagine having to engage in this kind of drama with my family. I haven’t spoken to my sister in 7 years because I’d had enough of her behaviour so it must be truly awful to have to think the way Meghan is about what they are likely to do when she’s going through ANOTHER major life event.

  9. DML says:

Fake news but if it is not I think you are right it is to keep her dad in line. Like “handle your crap, which includes your other daughter and keep to yourself and if you do that maybe we can communicate.”

  10. Digital Unicorn says:

I kinda agree she could be testing the water, playing the PR game to see how the Fail and Evil Papa Smurf react. There is NO WAY she will let Scammy near her child, I guess she still has some hope Toxic Tom will toe the line.

Saying all that – me thinks that the white Markles as laying low so they can get a bigger payout when the baby arrives. They are plotting something.

    • Glor says:

But he’s repeatedly shown his complete lack of compunction in exposing highly personal stuff (real or imaginary); why suddenly believe he’s unlikely to exploit a bebeh in the most blatant manner, whilst ramping up the emotional blackmail?
Aaaach.. it doesn’t bear thinking about…it could be well beyond our notions of awful. Hang tough, Sussexes.

  11. Mia says:

I don’t believe this besides it comes form DM. It’s no way she’ll meet with the other daughter who follows people on twitter who hate Meghan and want to harm her, don’t believe she’s pregnant etc.

  12. LivePlantsCleanAir says:

    I call bull puckey

  13. JadedBrit says:

I call… Enough bullshit to stink out Animal Farm. The way to deal with toxic Narcissists is to cut them off at the knees. No contact, no acknowledgement, no response. Sources say, indeed.

  14. bonobochick says:

I saw Omid Scobie tweeted “no.” on twitter when someone asked him if this story was true.

  15. Chef Grace says:

Just DM stirring the shit pot to see what bubbles up.

  16. Lesanne says:

    Right, and I’m a leprechaun 🍀

  17. aquarius64 says:

Meghan would have went to People to leak this. Too many holes in this story: Jr is left out of the reunion, Sam is on the fixated persons list, Jr is in trouble with the law again, Dad showed Meghan ‘s phone number to a reporter making him a security risk. Sam planted this to force an invitation and fans and haters don’t believe it.

    • Bunny says:

Every word of this. @AQUARIUS64 has it exactly.

For the police in the UK to have released the information that SM was even on the fixated persons list means that things are beyond repair for that “relationship” (in quotes, because it looks like there never was much of a relationship to start with).

Think about it: the police say that one person poses a danger to a member of the BRF. That’s it for the person on the list. The police are never going to allow that person within striking distance of the BRF going forward. Especially a member by blood – the baby.

As for Junior, the press would have a field day with his charges, so no.

There could be hope for Senior, but he’s tied at the hip with SM and then there are all of his many, many leaks, interviews, rants, raves, etc.

  18. Xo says:

Whether or not this is true, it was a smart headline to get out there.

    Nice move, KP.

  19. Fluffy Princess says:

This is a slick PR move if that’s how this is working out. I like the whole, “Well, I was going to try. . .but you see what happens? ” Genius.

    • Glor says:

I reckon he needs to realise finally, pre-bebeh, and without any further communication, that he he has already utterly blown it.
No further opportunities, even if they are, as here, invented for laudable Sussex PR purposes.
He could pick up a bogus olive branch like this, and parlay it into a magnificent rescue ship and an promised income for life. Booooo!

  20. Casey20 says:

The Daily Mail has to find something to talk about when it comes to Meghan. So they will simply make stuff up. If Meghan stays out of sight until the birth of the baby what will the Brits obsess about, Brexit? No, they would rather torture a woman in her last trimester than focus on the chaotic Brexit mess they voted for. What about Kate, nope Kate without a counter Meghan reminds them that she has done NOTHING in the last 7 years. So the only thing left to do is make up stories about Meghan…..I’m talking about the Daily Mail Readers not all Brits.

    • Glor says:

I read yesterday in Private Eye that Mail
Online has employed the eye-poppingly rude Susannah Constantine as some kind of “ranter about famous women’s’ clothing”. With her, Sarah Vine, and that Liz Jones weirdo unpicking one’s frocks, it should turn into an even more toxic atmosphere now.

  21. AprilMay says:

You know this story is BS as soon as you see Samantha’s name in this. They’ve never had a relationship so why start now? Also her half-brother is on record on an Italian talk show the other night saying he hasn’t spoken to Meghan since 2011.

  22. Yoyo says:

Guys are you forgetting this is Harry’s child also? There is no way in hell Samantha or Jr. Will get near this child, and if Thomas ever does get near, they will put the kibosh on him posing with the child to eventually sell the pics.
Why this story is unbelievable? it’s from the Dailymail, why would a friend of Meghan’s go to that rag.
Some one is saying this story is from Samantha, the same words she uses on Twitter.

  23. A says:

Finally, after months of trashing Meghan for flaking on her family, the DM has changed its tune. This story actually portrays Meghan in a reasonable light. She’s the mature one who’s considering reconciliation, so now if the White Markles screw up, then they’ll get the full brunt of the tabloid backlash instead of Meghan. Hmm. Interesting.

Between this, and the new rules that Clarence House as put down for social media, the Queen making Meghan the VP of that commonwealth thing, the whole thing where Meghan and Kate are getting along instead of fighting each other, and it really feels like the British tabloid press have somehow been brought to heel. I wonder if someone stepped in and told them to knock it the f*ck off, or if the letter thing really changed things that much, or what. I can’t imagine the DM or anyone else ever choosing to do anything except cash in on the worst sort of impulsive racism from their readership.
