Last week, Paul Manafort was sentenced to 47 months for what amounted to tax fraud, because he was bilking foreign governments for millions of dollars and then not reporting much of the income. Like, of all the shady sh-t Manafort was up to, it was tax fraud that got him in the end. Anyway, the 47 months was seen as extremely lenient given the severity of the Manafort’s criminality, but people weren’t rioting in the streets about it because Manafort had a second, separate court case which was up for sentencing, and the judge (Amy Berman Jackson) was seen as less favorable to Manafort than the last guy. This second case resulted in a guilty plea for conspiring to defraud the United States from Manafort, and today was his sentencing. The conspiracy plea was obviously dealing with the $50 million he received as a “lobbyist” from a Putin-backed outfit in Ukraine.
Judge Jackson gave Manafort a long-winded dressing down, basically detailing all of the lies he’s told and all of the crimes he’s committed. Many thought that she was building up to an epic sentencing, something that would reflect the 10-year-plus sentencing guidelines. But that’s not what it is. Here’s the breakdown:
BREAKING: Paul Manafort has been sentenced to:
– Count 1: 60 months, with 30 months concurrent with EDVA sentence
– Count 2: 13 months, to run consecutive to count 1 and the EDVA sentence— Zoe Tillman (@ZoeTillman) March 13, 2019
I’ve been up since before 5 am and so I’m not going to try to break down the math here. I’m just going by what reporters are saying and they’re saying that this means Manafort will have an additional 43 months tacked onto his 47 month-sentence from last week, so Manafort will be serving about seven and a half years in prison. That is, unless he gets time off for good behavior. This is not the sentencing I was hoping for, but I will give Judge Jackson credit: at least she didn’t talk about his “blameless life” like the other judge.
Update: …. And Manafort just got indicted by the Manhattan DA. *rubs hands together in glee*
BREAKING: Paul Manafort has been charged in New York with mortgage fraud and more than a dozen other state felonies, NYT reports, an effort to ensure he will still face prison time if Trump pardons him for his federal crimes. https://t.co/mD9qocQIia

It’s all in who you know.
yup. Once again, the system will always protect those at the top
Especially white male, white collar criminals. The rest of us, especially POC, are all toast. “And all men are created equal” indeed. This is NOT an enlightened age people.
White male privilege + money is one hell of a thing.
And now NY State just indicted him on 16 State Charges. Can’t pardon that!!!! Yaaaaaas.
The Manhattan District Attorney charged Manafort with mortgage fraud, falsifying business records and conspiracy.
Hopefully they will fully punish him, since he only received an additional 3.5 years by Judge Berman Jackson
I love my state. They didn’t wait two minutes to bring that hammer down.
Oh and btw, they are going to do the same to trump the minute he is out of office.
That’s right.
I was expecting Judge Amy Jackson to be a little harder. He deserve minimum 15 years away. I bet he gets out in 3.
This is some BS.
I think the max he could get in this case was 10, so 7 years isn’t bad. The true mistake was the sentencing for the previous charges.
He could have received an additional 10 years on top of the 4 he was already sentenced. Instead, he was only charged an additional 3.5 years. So, instead on 14 years, he is serving 7.5.
ellekaye … not even that. he’s getting credit for the 9 months already served; plus anticipated time off for good behavior (which shouldn’t be too hard considering his special treatment). it’s around 6ish .. and then not even that, since dotard will likely pardon him.
@EllKaye
He was charge an additional 6 1/12 (73 months) by Jackson and while a lot of people have been mentioning the 10 year figure, few took into account the fact that some of the time would be served concurrently. 14 years was always a bit optimistic.
I’d have to take a deep dive in Jackson’s rulings, but my guess is that she didn’t go out of her way to give him a concurrent sentence on the first charge.
The Orange Turd is sure to pardon him shortly. Birds of a feather……
ugh please no… although, once these people are exposed as the cretins they are, he suddenly “didn’t ever have much to do with them”….
The Orange Turd can only issue pardons for federal crimes. He can’t do s**t if Manafort is convicted for the 16 new charges. They are NYC state felonies. No pardon for these! NYC didn’t waste one second after he was sentenced to drop this hammer. He’s not getting out of this one if convicted.
It is unbelievable.
How on earth does “conspiracy to defraud the United States” not warrant a life sentence??
If only he bribed a college or voted while black.
THIS
Yes, right? This sentence is a disgrace.
*CLAPPING*
or sold loose cigarettes on the street.
THIS IS SOME BULL.
Is it infuriating? Yes.
But I’d be lying if I didn’t admit I feared he wouldn’t see a day behind bars given how deep this ran in the top circles.
He has not yet been charged with any election crimes (such as giving polling data to Kilimnik). I look forward to that!
From the way the sketch artist drew him at his last hearing, this man will more than likely die in prison.
And I do not feel bad about that.
Don’t bet on it. These people are f*cking cockroaches.
I’m guessing he’ll get out early for good behavior.
American Justice, folks!
*correction: RICH American Justice. If Manafort didn’t have that money, and was a middle class guy, they would have buried him UNDER the prison with a 4,000 year sentence.
The secret to immortality is a lack of empathy. Imagine how much stress you avoid if you just don’t give a f*ck about others.
And…NY’s justice department just submitted their state charges! WaPo made sure to note those ones are outside of Trump’s pardoning power, lol.
Well since this guy is in his 70s even 7 years behind bars amounts to the rest of her life
We can only hope but these cockroaches will probably live to a 101.
I’ll be watching YouTube videos of baby goats for the rest of the day to ensure I don’t have a rage stroke.
You and me both. #babygoatswearingsweaters <3
Just got indicted by NYC DA.. Pardon no good 😎😎
Tee hee!
I’m glad he’s at least getting some jail time, it will never be enough, but it’s something. I also hope there are more charges to come.
And now I’m going to hope I get a million dollars, because my hope about more charges for him just happened! State charges too, so no pardon, and I would imagine they wouldn’t count any federal time served?
Disappointing.
Southpaw on twitter made a really good point:
“All in all, Manafort’s early decision not to waive venue for the EDVA charges and consolidate his case in DC—which was puzzling at the time—looks like it saved him a decade or more off his sentence and gave him a chance to get out of prison in his 70s even if he’s not pardoned.”

I’m torn. I think he should be in their longer, but I don’t think the onus should be on Jackson to make up for Ellis’ mess. He got the full 5 years for the first count (60 months) and a little over a year for the second since she felt the degree of the infraction didn’t warrant the full 5 years. 30 months of the total sentence is concurrent, which is something that I don’t mind. Hell, I’d prefer if more crimes were mandated to be charged concurrently to keep overzealous prosecutors from trying to force a plea by stacking time.
What a justice system eh? Let’s give up the pretence that there is any justice in AmeriKKKa.
and just to add.. don’t get your hopes up about the ny charges. cy vance dropped felony fraud charges against dotard jr and princess complicit after meeting with dotard’s lawyer — that he’d previously received a nice campaign contribution from. $32,000 – that he was forced to return after being publicized.
It’s good to know that it literally pays better (millions vs hundreds) to sell out your country than to sell drugs AND you only have to serve the time it takes to get a basic bachelors degree! Plus no polic harassment. Drug dealers in poor neighborhoods, save your coins and travel to a corrupt Eastern European country for a “visit”.
the one positive you can take away from dotard’s reign is that it finally, once and for all shows the entire world what a fraud this country is re equality of justice, adherence to the rule of law and that if you’re white and rich, you can get away with anything.
