Prince Harry steps out for a solo event in London: will we see Meghan before the birth?

The Duke Of Sussex attends a Mental Health Conference at King’s College

Look at these beauty shots of Prince Harry! I barely even look at him these days, because his wife gets all the attention (and to be fair, she’s even more photogenic than Harry). I can’t get over how slim and fit he looks these days – marriage agrees with him, and Meghan’s healthy lifestyle agrees with too. He’s out there doing yoga and meditating and eating organic food and sh-t. His suits have never fit better!

Harry was out and about together at Kings College London as part of the Veterans Mental Health Conference. The event was organized by the King’s Centre for Military Health Research, and it’s Harry’s wheelhouse entirely. One of his biggest interests is “veterans’ issues,” and add to that the whole “keen about mental health” thing of Heads Together.

I was extremely concerned that this solo event with Harry meant that we wouldn’t be seeing Meghan any more, that she was already on her maternity leave. For one, I was mad that the last photos of her while pregnant would be those stupid nurse’s hat pics. Katie Nicholl at Vanity Fair claimed that the Commonwealth Day church visit would be Meghan’s last public event too, but that Meghan would continue to do private meetings. (Apparently, Meg already had one private meeting this week, with Dr Joanna Newman, who is the Chief Executive and Secretary General of the Association of Commonwealth Universities.) In any case, Hello Magazine says no, we’ll see Meghan at least one more time before she gives birth:

The Duchess of Sussex is just weeks away from welcoming her first child, so when exactly will she go on maternity leave? Her diary is still filled with engagements, some of which she is expected to carry out in private away from the cameras. And while there is speculation that Meghan has already quietly started her leave, this couldn’t be further from the truth.

Kensington Palace will announce exactly when Meghan will undertake her final engagement before the birth. Last year, when the Duchess of Cambridge was expecting Prince Louis, the palace released a statement very clearly reading: “Today’s public engagements by The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be Her Royal Highness’ last before starting her maternity leave.”

Fans can expect a similar announcement for Meghan, and it’s likely the Duchess will start her leave roughly one month before her due date. Kate’s last public engagement before Louis’ birth was on 22 March; she went on to welcome her third child just over a month later on 23 April. Meghan has previously said she is due in late April or early May, but some fans have speculated she may give birth earlier in mid-April.

[From Hello]

So there you go. Will it be a surprise engagement? Or some kind of formal visit somewhere? I don’t know. But it will probably happen in the next week, just a guess.

Am I late? When did he start wearing a wedding band?

    • Susannah says:

I think they both exchanged rings at their wedding ceremony. I remember reading an article where they were already starting to say that Meghan was turning Harry into a metrosexual. Even then the, “It’s all Meghan’s fault” narrative was starting.

    • Molly says:

Yes. He started wearing it the day he got married. He’s always worn it.

    • Fluffy Princess says:

I think it’s romantic on Harry’s part considering the men in the BRF never wear wedding bands. William never has, and neither does Charles or Edward or the Duke of Edinb. So the fact that Harry has always worn his wedding band is — le sigh!

      • Becks1 says:

I think Charles does actually wear one, its just not on his ring finger. Someone said once he wears it on the same finger as his signet ring.

      • Royalwatcher says:

Charles does wear one, next to his signet ring. He wore one when he married Diana and wears one now. It’s just harder to notice since the signet ring…but there are some photos where you can see it.

To the OP, Harry has worn one since his wedding.

      • Fluffy Princess says:

Harry’s ring is on his ring finger “standing alone” in it’s proclamation that he is married. When you have to have clarification of the wedding band situation, it’s not as strong a statement to me. I get that Charles wears his on a different finger with his signet ring, but for me it doesn’t “count count.” It’s not so “Loud and Proud” like Harry’s is.

      • notasugarhere says:

Yes, Philip, Edward, Charles, and Andrew (when married) all wore wedding rings on their pinky next to their signet ring. That is the way it historically was done in aristo circles. That is loud and proud the way it was done historically, no clarification needed.

Mike Tindall wears a wedding band on his ring finger like Harry does.

      • Betsy says:

Poor Charles’s fingers are so swollen that I’m surprised he wears any rings anymore at all.

I wonder if the birth will also be counted as an engagement.

—Harry is not wearing a belt. Is that unusual?

    • maxine ducamp says:

I think that the current style in the UK for expensive men’s suits is a very slim fit (for those that can pull it off) and therefore doesn’t require a belt? But I know next to nothing about men’s clothing so … insert shrug emoji…?

    • Princessk says:

Birth counted as an engagement….lol! 😂

      • jan90067 says:

I thought I read that Kate’s birthings were listed in the CC. Isn’t everything listed there considered “work”? lolol

  3. Lily says:

I think she’ll make a surprise appearance with Harry at his engagements when she feels up to it…fingers crossed!

  4. Susannah says:

Proper shoes! I much prefer these to those blue suede shoes he loves so much.

  5. MissyS. says:

Harry has a certain charm and swagger that I find attractive.

Also, Katie Nicholl writes royal fan fiction. She is not a credible source when it comes to news about Meghan. She makes up stories based off of photos and fake sources.

    • Mel M says:

Count me in on that. I was legit just looking at his face thinking that I shouldn’t find this guy as attractive as I do. He’s not my type at all, I’m usually always attracted to dark hair, skin, features. His features aren’t the traditionally attractive ones either.

    • Royalwatcher says:

Count me in too. He’s got charisma.

I agree that Katie Nicholl makes up her stories, but this is also being reported by other RRs. However, the two others I saw were both phrasing it as ‘the palace has not confirmed anything but have “implied” it was the last public event scheduled’ but then both added (to cover all their bases) ‘but she might still make an appearance…it’s just nothing scheduled as of now.”

So basically, it sounds like they know nothing since it boils down to: Meghan may or may not make another appearance before Baby Sussex arrives. The palace hasn’t confirmed one way or the other.

      Welp…okay, thanks.

      • MissyS. says:

I agree with you. It seems like nothing is official yet, but I can see Meghan making at least one more public appearance before her maternity leave.

        Omid just tweeted this:
“Not officially on maternity leave but there are no more public engagements.”

    Honk!

  7. Famika says:

Did anyone see the photos of Amal and George Clooney at Buckingnam a palace this week, with Prince Charles. They were invited to dinner for Prince’s Trust.

Is Prince Harry eventually going to take over The Prince’s Trust for Charles or will that automatically go to Prince William? Anyone know?

  8. Lowrider says:

I’m sensing a lot of BDE from the posted photos.

  9. Becks1 says:

Harry is really looking good. He looks healthier than he has in a while and more confident.

  10. Anna says:

Since being with Meghan, he is the happiest he had ever been.

  11. notasugarhere says:

Queen has authorized a new household for Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Their team will move under Buckingham Palace and report to the Queen’s private secretary. Hired someone from Hilary’s campaign too.

    • Becks1 says:

innnnnteresting. Is that what we assumed was going to happen? (“we” meaning the more knowledgeable here, ha.) So H&M will now be completely separate from Will and Kate, and will be lumped in more with Anne, Andrew etc from a staffing perspective, or how does it work?

      • notasugarhere says:

I think most expected separate staff teams as was announced but still under KP, meaning still tied to William and Kate’s control. Now moving forward it will be Charles under Clarence House, William and Kate under Kensington, and all other royals under Buckingham Palace. Harry and Meghan will have their own private secretaries and staff who report to Queen’s private secretary, communications director, or likewise.

This seems pretty standard, like all the other royals outside of Charles/Camilla and William/Kate are under BP. They have their own households, staff, private secretaries, but those individual households are under the banner of BP/monarch. It is still a surprise as it means the PR breakup of the forced Fab Four. Now we have to see if the Foundation remains together or if that gets split in the future.

Their new head of communications, Sara Latham, has worked for British PR firms, Hillary Clinton, and may have some connection to the Obamas. She’s dual UK/US citizen. Slick they’ve managed to hire staff without anyone finding out until this announcement.

    • Casey20 says:

Now we know why PW/PH had a fall out. This move will silence so many who have said that Harry and Meghan are not key players. Daily Mail will be Unhinged and I love it!! By the way is Katie Nicholl considered a good reporter? Considering Vanity Fair has to retract an article from her I would be cautious on her reports, IMO

      • notasugarhere says:

This didn’t come from Nicholl. There was a press release issued by Buckingham Palace.

    • Serpentinefire says:

      Also Obama

    • Its ok says:

I thought Harry and Meghan were going to get their own team like Will and Kate. Their team answering to the Queen’s Private secretary surprises me. It seems like H&M are being restricted instead of being given more freedom. Andrew, Anne, and Edward don’t need to go through the Queen’s PS as far as I know.

      • Casey20 says:

Actually H&M are moving to the right place. There should only be one court..under QE2. Once Charles becomes King, H&M will be under his court. W&K are the odd ones out, but you know William, he’s spoiled. Anyway when Charles becomes King, PW will be the Prince of Wales (under King Charles’s court) so ultimately things will be the way it should. It didn’t make since for H&M to report to William who technically shouldn’t have his own court. FYI, everyone reports to the Queen, including W&K.

      • whateVer says:

        @Casey20

Well technically everyone should be under QE2 including Charles but he decided he wanted his own court. Also if Charles didn’t throw his son’s under the bus to boost his own reputation William and Harry would not have broken away to form their own court they would still be under the banner of Clarence House.

      • Casey20 says:

Agreed. H&M moving to BP was o.k.ed by Charles…Charles is really running things. They needed to get away from W&K. Why should they run thing pass William a h he isn’t King, so good for them

  12. Princessk says:

These developments are interesting, even more so that it is making international headlines, really unheard of. Unless there is still cooperation, it could cause further problems, if there are serious clashes with engagement dates it could be awkward. But what I am wondering is where will the Sussexes live when they are in London? The majority of their engagements are in London and they will need a base. Will they retain Nottingham Cottage or have a complete break with KP?

    • notasugarhere says:

Royals set their own schedules and are always making appearances on the same days as each other. A few years ago Anne, Sophie, and a third royal were all in the same small town the same day. That’s how they do things.

We haven’t heard yet if they’ll retain Nottingham Cottage for London. Most of the others have a place in London in addition to their country home (Anne, Edward and Sophie, Andrew, Princess Alexandra). Windsor to London is only 40km or 25 miles. Harry and Meghan could easily get home to Windsor from a daytime engagement in London. It would only be early morning or late late night events that might cause them to stay overnight in London.
