Taylor Swift in Rosa Bloom at the iHeart Radio Music Awards: cute & bangsy?

HeartRadio Music Awards 2019

Here are just some photos from last night’s iHeart Radio Music Awards. By now, I think we all know that Taylor Swift doesn’t show up for anything unless she’s guaranteed an award. Which means she got the heads up that she was winning some awards at this iHeart thing. So Taylor had time to plan her look, and it was pretty cute, actually. Considering how rarely we see her on red carpets these days, I enjoy seeing the evolution of her style. She went for a very cute and sparkly romper by Rosa Bloom in a lovely shade of violet. She paired the romper with Sophia Webster heels which had butterflies on the heel. I’ve grown used to Taylor’s bangs and I guess I accept at them at this point, but I wish they weren’t quite so thick?

Taylor took home awards for best music video (for “Delicate,” which she and Joseph Kahn copied from Kenzo and Spike Jonze lmao), Best Tour and Best Fan Army. Jesus, we’re giving awards to the Snake Fam now??? It’s mind-boggling. Taylor did her Taylor thing during her speeches and acted like the most aggrieved woman in the world. Stay fresh, Tay.

Meanwhile, the former Snake Enemy #1 was also in attendance – Katy Perry walked the carpet with Zedd, not Orlando Bloom. Zedd and Katy are friendly collaborators and I doubt there’s anything there but business. Taylor was probably chuckling into her bangs trauma about how terrible Katy looked though – why in God’s name is Katy doing this to herself? The too-platinum blonde hair, the sh-tty dress. Ugh. Katy was a presenter at the awards show, and she also told Entertainment Tonight that she would be open to collaborating with… Taylor Swift.

UGH i hate it. And I usually like Taylor’s style.

  2. tempest prognosticator says:

Taylor looks good- she has legs for days. I know what Katy was going for with her styling, but she failed.

    • Ronaldinhio says:

I think this cuts her legs at the wrong spot. An inch longer would make them look even longer.

      • Amy Too says:

Agree, the proportions are off. There’s quite a bit more fabric in the sleeves than in the shorts and it’s making it look like the bottom half is a smaller size than the top half.

  3. CharliePenn says:

Taylor looks like someone doing Taylor Swift cosplay. Katy looks like someone doing Katy Perry cosplay. They have both jumped the shark on their own looks!

    • Astrid says:

      +1

    • jan90067 says:

I know Katy is naturally blonde (though not *this* shade of blonde!), but she looked (IMO) SOOOO much better with dark hair. The brunette look really made her eyes pop!

The teeny-bopper look is so bad here! While I realize socks are part of the “bopper” look from the 50s, if she went with an ankle-strap shoe, she would’ve pulled off the 50s *young woman* (college age and above) look, and that would’ve been more of a “win” (in my book).

  4. Ira says:

I don’t like the top part. It would look better if it’s more fitted.

  5. BearcatLawyer says:

I own those Sophia Webster heels in black, and they are painful to wear! I looooove high heels (Manolos forever!), but I only wear the butterfly heels to events where I know I will be sitting down a lot.

    • Eden75 says:

I have a ridiculous number of shoes, but only one pair of those strappy hell shoes. I wore them once and got infections in my feet from where they wore on the skin. Never again. I have them sitting on a shelf (stains and all) to remind myself to never, ever buy that style again.

    • Veronica S. says:

I had them in my basket on Neiman Marcus until I saw a review similar to this. It broke my heart, but my feet are way too wide in the front to suffer like that and out of the basket they went.

  6. Eliza says:

I don’t get the proportions of flutter sleeves and hotpants in sequins. Although I do like her hair like this.

Katy’s makeup and hair color are the same. I thought she was shaved bald with a fall attached to her headband. I didn’t notice her costume till my eyes adjusted to the hair.

  7. Erinn says:

If I had her legs, I’d want to own that. My god, I love it. But I’m a sucker for iridescent fabric.

Katy looks horrible. HORRIBLE. Her hair blends into her forehead/scalp. The color is awful on her. I’m not opposed to a blonde Katy, but this shade is awful. I really don’t understand the outfit – it’s so bad. She is such a pretty lady, but it’s like she’s trying her hardest to look awful. She could look amazing in something more like what Taylor is wearing.

    • Tiffany :) says:

Yes, the iridescent purple is so fun to me, I love it!

I think everyone knew in advance who won, but that’s not why they were there. This was the award show version of the Clear Channel forced attendance concert festivals. They tell artists if they want to get radio play, the MUST attend. That’s how they get so many people at Jingle Ball, it’s mandatory. IheartRadio was formerly Clear Channel, and in most markets they own the majority of radio stations.

  8. Annie. says:

    Loooooooove those butterfly sandals.

    • Kk2 says:

Yea the shoes are really cool, but I don’t know if they would work as well with many other outfits. So well done Taylor.

  9. Lolly says:

I usually love Taylor’s bangs but I absolutely hate her hair here. I don’t like her outfit either, it just doesn’t flatter her.

I watched part of her acceptance speech, and my God does she have the biggest victim complex. Like there are a million things happening in the world right now, and yet Taylor truly believes she’s a warrior for showing up her “haters”.

    • Beach Dreams says:

Her speech shows that her preachy narrative of growth in the recent Elle article was BS. Not surprising because it never seemed genuine imo.

  10. DS9 says:

The length on that romper is totally disproportionate to the style and length on the top. But I think that’s likely caused by the bodice not being long enough for her torso.

    Cute outfit. Poor fit

    • I agree!! says:

Totally agree!! And sparkley outfits are tough to wear because they always make the wearer’s neck look crepey.

      • Desical says:

Huh. That must be why she is appearing so much older looking to me. I was trying to figure out what was off between her face and neck/chest.

  11. C says:

KP used to be so beautiful…what happened?

    • Stacy Dresden says:

She hasn’t aged that well and has awful style

    • Jadedone says:

I think it’s just awful styling bc she really was beautiful

    • Aren says:

I think she tried to break the sex object image and went for experimental. Except, she doesn’t have the wild personality to pull it off and comes across as creepy and weird.

  12. Case says:

Taylor looks so pretty! So many sequins! It’s a great springy look, and her makeup looks pretty with it.

  13. Barrett says:

Top looks like it goes w a long skirt? Not right cuts together, disproportionate.

  14. Lulu says:

    Taylor’s leggggs 🔥🔥

I loved what she wrote about body image in her ELLE essay. “I learned to stop hating every ounce of fat on my body. I worked hard to retrain my brain that a little extra weight means curves, shinier hair, and more energy. I think a lot of us push the boundaries of dieting, but taking it too far can be really dangerous. There is no quick fix. I work on accepting my body every day.”

I’m surprised that didn’t get picked up more

    • Kath says:

I agree – it was an important thing to say, especially with her fan base who (like me) probably spent all their teens and twenties hating their bodies.

  15. Tiffany says:

Now that I looked at Katy’s ensemble fora while, I don’t mind it. I just wish she did not wear the white socks with it.

I have always believed that white socks for Jeans and gym. But that’s just me.

    • Lilla says:

Oh but the white sox are totally a part of the fifties bobby soxer look she is doing here, complete with headband. The plastic overlay on the dress is a hoot, like the plastic slipcovers that grandmas had on their couches. Is this the event where they cover people in slime? If so, the plastic is brilliant! If her hair was a better color, I would call it a win.

  16. Kealeen says:

Taylor tried to pull off a romper meant for Gemma Chan. Admirable, but…no. Katy Perry is turning into Grey Gardens on ecstacy.

    • Desolee says:

I think she looks nice in it and it suits her. But you’re right Gemma would have “rocked it” more I guess. Maybe if Taylor had changed the hair a bit (though I like her bangs)

      • Lilla says:

Rainbow hair on Taylor would’ve been fun. The romper top is too big and the shorts are too small.

    • Grant says:

I don’t know. I think you need legs to pull something like this off. I think Taylor looks great and that’s saying something because usually I think her style is the definition of basic.

  17. Mar says:

Katy’s hair color is blending into her forehead and is making her look like Kristen Wiig’s SNL character from the Lawrence Welk Show and now I can’t unsee it…

  18. Lynnie says:

taylor’s outfit looks exactly like the party collection that my job sold last Christmas that everyone tried on as a joke. No one bought it tho, and the store is known for selling pretty tacky stuff, so take that as you will.

    • Desolee says:

YEah if you’re not in show business you’ll look kind of aggressively look at me by wearing this to pretty much any event , it’s not a particularly useful item of clothing

  19. Beach Dreams says:

Something about her face looks different.

    • Aren says:

She gained a bit of weight, I think that makes her look a bit older. It happens to those of us who have a tendency for chubby cheeks.

  20. LivePlantsCleanAir says:

Taylor has figured out (and OMG do I ever wish other women would get this) either legs or boobs, but not both. I’m grateful!

  21. Shan says:

I think she looks great. It’s a fun outfit for a fun event – the sequins looked fantastic in motion.

  22. Aren says:

I think Taylor is absolute perfection. I loved everything about her look; the color is beautiful, the shape is just tight enough, and it makes her look youthful and elegant.
I don’t like her music, but I think she has great style.

  23. Chelsey says:

Good lord Katy is SO cringey.

S/o cringey- Delicate seriously won? Watching Taylor try to act and dance and make faces was so hard to watch. The second hand embarrassment, my goodness.

    Kenzo did it better.

    • The Rickest Rick says:

And don’t forget cribbing from Imogen Heap! (I’m sorry but Delicate sounds like a huge rip off of an Imogen Heap song to me)

  24. Ann says:

The Snake fam was going nuts yesterday over the butterflies. So many butterfly related theories regarding her next album. They are too funny with the highly complex conspiracies. Oddly enough there is usually quite a bit of elaborate math involved. I wasn’t crazy about the top part of this look but I love the texture and colors. And those shoes are so cute!

  25. PitaBites says:

ok, Katy looks ok not that bad, also she went as the character from her latest video. Please look it up, she is just having fun!

  26. Veronica S. says:

I love those Sophia Webster shoes. I considered splurging on them until reviews revealed they were cut small, so I know they weren’t fitting my giant man feet. I wish the outfit wasn’t a romper, but it’s a pretty color.

  27. hogtowngooner says:

I find Taylor’s teeth really distracting. She got some new veneers (a couple of years ago maybe?) and they look too long for mouth. It’s all I see when I look at her.

  28. Mrs. Peel says:

They both look like they’re about to jump out of a cake.

  29. Debra Horn says:

I get a lot of clothing from Roman’s and Woman Within catalogs. I also buy clothing from HSN. I think on any given day…I can look better than either of these women. Seriously…what were they thinking?

  30. sunshine gold says:

WTF happened to Katy Perry? When was at the height of her fame she was such a bombshell and she’s just looked so so bad for awhile now. I don’t get it.

    • Justjj says:

Her hair color is always too extreme and harsh for her pale skin and her blunt hair styles aren’t flattering. Her childish and whimsical style looks weird on her aging body that’s always carried a tiny amount of extra weight. It’s pale skin/body shape denial that makes her look so bad. She needs a new stylist, a new makeup artist, a healthier glow, and a healthy body that she dresses for instead of awkwardly squeezing into things and dowdy-ing it up with stuff like gloves, headbands, and ankle length skirts and she would like 10000% better.

  31. jay says:

For the love of god, can Katy Perry try wearing clothes and not a costume for once? She’s not Betsey Johnson, she just can’t pull it off. It always looks maximum cringe.
