Amal Clooney named as a ‘figurehead’ for a new initiative for the Prince’s Trust

The Prince Of Wales Hosts Dinner To Celebrate 'The Prince's Trust'

I said earlier this week that these are some of my favorite photos ever of George and Amal Clooney, and of Prince Charles. There’s something about the way George and Amal are fake-laughing at whatever Charles is saying. These pics are a journey!! Anyway, George and Amal attended Prince Charles’ fundraising dinner for the Prince’s Trust this week. The dinner was in Buckingham Palace, and it felt like yet another “connection” for George and Amal. As much as “sources” want to convince us that Amal has always been in the orbit of the royal family and the Duchess of Sussex, I suspect that is not the case. I suspect the Clooneys only got invited to Meghan and Harry’s wedding because of some low-key sponsorship, pay-to-play (pay-to-invite) deal. I also believe that the Clooneys probably made a similar arrangement for this new thing:

She’s a powerful international lawyer who brings added glamour to proceedings as the wife of a Hollywood star. Now Amal Clooney has added another string to her bow, joining Prince Charles to launch an initiative for the global arm of his Prince’s Trust charity. Charles, who dined with the human rights barrister and her husband George, 57, at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday, is said to find Amal, 41, ‘deeply impressive’.

It is understood that she is set to be the figurehead for the first global youth campaign for Prince’s Trust International – which may even be named after her. A source told the Daily Mail: ‘Amal is seen as a real role model.’

[From The Daily Mail]

I’m sure people will disagree with me, but this is clearly a “donate a large sum of money to the Prince’s Trust and we’ll give Amal some kind of gaudy title that doesn’t mean anything” situation. I’ve seen some people comment that George and Amal are “famewhores.” I don’t think that’s the case. I think they’re starf–kers. Royal starf–kers. They’re not doing all of this to get attention for themselves, they’re parlaying their money (new money) and connections (Hollywood and legal connections) to get even more established within the notoriously persnickety British aristocracy. All that being said, I’m not mad about it. They’re trying to game the British social structure just like the Middleton family or the Beckhams. Don’t hate the starf–king player, hate the British caste system game.

Meanwhile, George spoke out again on the Duchess of Sussex. Previously, he made waves for defending Meghan from abuse by the British papers. He’s doubling-down.

George Clooney had nothing but nice things to say about his friendship with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Appearing on Friday’s Good Morning Britain, the Hollywood star spoke out in defence of Meghan as he touched upon the press attention she has received since becoming a royal. “I think it’s a little unfair at times,” he explained. “I’ve seen it when the press can turn on you for sort of ridiculous reasons and for almost nothing and it seemed to me to be a little unjust since she [Meghan] hadn’t done anything except just happen to live her life.”

Opening up about his friendship with former actress Meghan, the 57-year-old said: “She’s a really kind and smart and intelligent young woman…. They’re a really wonderful, loving couple. Most of [the press attention] you can just shrug off and not pay attention to, but sometimes it’s unkind.”

[From Hello]

Yeah, he’s right. He’s also going all-in with the Sussexes. George and Amal really want to be (and be seen) as the Sussexes’ powerful benefactors and champions. Interesting…

I agree with your assessment. This isn’t about fame per se for George – he’s already Hollywood royalty. This is about the the actual royal family and wanting a certain status in Britain.

I know people get annoyed with them but I find it amusing. They’re playing the game. And amal’s Title is DEF the result of a large donation

    • jan90067 says:

Of course it is. They also most likely want to make sure their twins are going to be right in the thick of the royal circle with PoloBaby Sussex, and by extension, George, Char, and Louis (birthdays, etc).

I know a lot of CBers really like Amal, but damn… I just want to smack the smug off her face. I find her insufferable.

      • Nuria says:

        @jan90067
“I want to smack the smug off her face.” Any reason for this particular desire? I ask because I’m an Arab woman (I know Amal is Druze, not considered Arab) who someone has used similar wording with, i.e. They want to smack a look out of my face. “For no particular reason”, just that I annoyed them, of course.

  2. Alexandria says:

Hahaha I love the thirst from these two. Bring it on Amal! Sorry not sorry.

  3. LivePlantsCleanAir says:

These pictures make Prince Charles look like he’d deep into his cup…..hmmm, is Prince Charles a drinker? Oh, dear…..

    • Who ARE These People? says:

He has rosacea, which can redden the face and thicken the skin. It can be aggravated by alcohol but that is by far not the only cause.

  4. whateVer says:

Charles looks like he is about to spontaneously combust any second. He’s so so red and fingers at the engagement with Queen Letizia looked extra sausage-y . Hope he’s ok.

  5. Astrid says:

All I can see is Janice from Friends in these pics.

  6. Enn says:

Can someone please send this thirsty duo a case of Gatorade?

  7. Maya says:

Actually Clooney has been friends with Harry for years and been part of the Royal charity causes.

    • Rosalee says:

The Prince has been interested in human rights for a number of decades. No doubt he was aware of Amal Clooney’s international human rights work before she married George. Not everyone or everything revolves around Hollywood or Tequila drinkers.

      • Cuckoo says:

What human rights work? She did mostly international criminal law work and soemtimes repped dictators, which is what lawyers should do if they feel up to it. She’s not the saintly humanitarian Clooney has tried to sell her as. She’s not even that exceptional as a lawyer! I should know; I’m a lawyer myself! Successful, but you can easily find literally thousands of lawyers equal or above her in seniority and experience in any big city, though most will not be working in the somewhat “glamorous” field of human rights or other international law specialties. And she doesn’t work much these days so has fallen way behind. These two are trash, buying their way into circles for self interest so they don’t get to inflate her career for such superficial purposes. They’re odious, vulgar, and very dated in their effort to be “elite.”

  8. Dee says:

The fact that they might name this “arm” of the charity after her is 100% proof that it is simply a big donation. Like naming a hospital wing after the benefactor, right?
Silly to hide it. Isn’t pretence the biggest no-no with the British upper class? Would have been cooler to say, The Clooney are using their fortune to help others worldwide by funding the Amal Clooney Global Whatever.

  9. Ader says:

I’m sorry, but the sponsorship angle is so annoying! (I’m sorry, but it is!) Of course they got hooked up socially when Meg first got there. That is what rich people do! They hook each other up with friends. And with the Hollywood / performative do-gooder / fashion-friendly connections, of COURSE Amal and Meg were going to be “introduced” and of COURSE they get along. They’re like Lord Varys and Tyrion!

  10. mc135 says:

I was attacked by sussex fans on twitter the first time he talk about Meghan media treatment and i questions is motives and where he was when she was called straight out of Compton because Stevie wonder could see they had no connections what so ever and this friendship they are trying to sell no one is buying. Well at least not me cause fan on twitter believe anyone who say positive thinks about their favs.

    • Blairski says:

The straight out of Compton thing always cracks me up. If you know Los Angeles neighborhoods, you know that Doria lives in a wealthy neighborhood that happens to be traditionally African American. Just like in Oakland (my hometown), Los Angeles has a significant African American upper middle class, and many truly wealthy families too.

  11. Yep says:

    They look desperate.

    • SM says:

I sort of have to agree. So thirsty for attention and being viewed as so important politically that it starts to look ridiculous. I am sure Amal has done some very meaningful and important work as a barrister but since she got on with Clooney, it seems like she is more interested in the optics.

    • Cuckoo says:

I agree with you both. George is showing his true colours. Narcissists.

  12. Catherine says:

George wants his son at Eton, membership at Whites. Equivalent for his daughter. He wants Amal to get “Dame” ed. They are working it like a rib!

    • Fluffy Princess says:

“They are working it like a rib!” is brilliant!! hahahahahaha! I laughed so hard!

    • Milla says:

Well yeah. Clooney always knows which side the bread’s buttered. I don’t understand how the Clooneys got to the royals but… so did the Beckhams.
It is ironic seeing G and C together after the whole Diana comparation
      ..

      • Carrie says:

George is a gross opportunist imo. Everyone is there to be used, no relationships are genuine in terms of care and friendship. Think of Diana’s brother refusing to let her go home for privacy and more importantly for her safety. But then once she died, oh yes of course, she’s there in body and name to enrich the estate but can’t speak for herself. Suddenly, once she’s dead and he has full control of her, she’s welcome.

All of these people are like this, even Harry and Meghan. That’s what it’s like being rich from what I’ve seen and experienced.

  13. Emily says:

I think it might be less them donating directly and more that attaching their “Star Power” to the Prince’s Trust will encourage other rich people to make large donations.

    • Molly says:

Yeah, this is a totally mutual beneficial set up. The Royal Family wants Amal just as much as she wants them. Young, successful, smart, accomplished, rich, beautiful woman wants to give a bunch of money to charity and then show up in a stunning gown to smile for photos and get global coverage about it? OKAY!
      No one’s a fool here.

  14. Eyfalia says:

I think George is seen when he has to promote his work, but otherwise he is quite happy doing his thing. He doesn’t need any Royal circle to feel complete. Others are more ambitious, very ambitious. But they are not the first and will not be the last. Prince Charles and also Prince Harry have seen and met similar and Meghan is smart.

  15. hkk says:

She reminds me so much of the lawyer in Girlfriend’s Guide to Divorce that I picture the actress’ voice and mannerisms when I imagine Amal talking. Weird right? I wonder if it is accurate at all. Do you know who I mean? http://colorwebmag.com/2015/11/16/exclusive-interview-necar-zadegan-girlfriends-guide-to-divorce/

  16. Michelle says:

I think Amal should literally be more vocal about issues. She has a huge platform that she could really use to help women’s issues. Hope this is the beginning of her doing just that.

  17. Mego says:

Notice he dialed down his rhetoric about the press abuse. To the point of making it sound rather stupid now. The media attacks on Meghan went way beyond “a little unkind.” Also refers to Meghan as a “young woman” – who happens to be roughly the same age as his wife but whatever.
