Duchess Meghan & Harry want to keep the birth of their baby as ‘private’ as possible

Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex leave the Old Vic Bristol

The final weeks of any royal’s pregnancy are usually the Silly Season for journalists. The pregnant royals don’t have any events, so there are no new photos, so the journalists just start making sh-t up and repeating old stories and seeing what sticks. This week, one of those stories was that suddenly, Meghan had decided to have a home birth at Frogmore Cottage. I didn’t cover it because we literally talked about that months ago, when the first “Meghan is terrible for considering a home birth” stories circulated. Personally, I believe Meghan has had her birthing plan in place for months, and she’s known which doctors she’ll use and all of that. But now the palace is clarifying a few things: the Sussexes are keeping the birth of Polo Baby “private.”

I’m not quite clear what all of this means. I suspect that Meghan and Harry really do not want people camped out at whatever hospital, and I suspect that they don’t want to do the baby presentation outside of the hospital. But will they really have a choice? I’m truly asking – there will be leaks, of course, and there’s no timeline given for when the announcements will come, like will they announce the birth within a few hours… or a few days? If it’s a few days, of course there will be leaks, because come on.

While I respect their right to make their own decisions about all of this, I kind of think they’re really underestimating the interest in this baby, and in royal babies in general.

I think not revealing the name of the hospital is a security issue, and I get it, especially regarding her family. Can you imagine Samantha Markle camped outside the hospital, even if they don’t do the “presenting the baby” thing?

My guess is with the line about “no big photo opportunity” – they wont present the baby, but they may release a picture on IG or something before leaving the hospital.

    • Loretta says:

Royal reporters wrote that they will do a photocall in the Windsor garden a few days after the birth.

    • Royalwatcher says:

But I’ve been thinking this whole time that putting the other sister on the fixated persons list would be a way to keep her out of the country. Does anyone know, legally, if that would be? I’d think that if a prominent person has a known stalker they would restrict that person’s entry…no? Or is that violating the other sister’s rights?

Regarding the birth plan, I mean, this could have been said about the Camb births as well, right? They were all “celebrated privately” before the news and baby being shared publicly. So I think this statement is vague enough that they could still go either way – release their own photos after they get home or do photos as they leave the hospital.

I can’t remember her name but I saw a tweet from another photographer saying the Sussexes will have a photo call on the grounds of Windsor after baby comes home. I’d love this, especially if they restrict the photographers to people who have been neutral or polite to them. No need to reward the tabloids.

Oh, Loretta beat me to it! What she said 🤗

      • Lorelei says:

People magazine says there will be one reporter, one photographer and one tv camera at the Windsor garden photocall.

      • Jan90067 says:

Considering all the nutters that have surfaced (race hatters, white nationalists, xenophobic crazies) taking verbal and written pot shots at them both, I don’t blame them one bit for wanting to control the environment they show the baby in!

    • Lunde says:

I fear that this may backfire as, unless she is having a homebirth, the information is bound to leak. Then there will be a horrible media scramble at an unprepared hospital.

      • Princessk says:

I really think that people are reading far too much into the statement. It was released not so much for public consumption as for the media. The Palace has been inundated with enquiries about the birth of this baby from the international media. Palace sources said that the interest in Baby Sussex is more than all three Cambridge children combined. So this announcement was to let the press know that there would be no presentation of the baby on the steps of any hospital.

I also think it is largely to throw people off the scent, and l think we will be in for a surprise. I am wondering if Doria is in the UK. I expected the baby or babies to already be born by now so I think that Baby Sussex will be with us by Monday.

  2. vanna says:

I don’t think they are underestimating our interest. But I do think they are punishing British media and are trying to distance themselves from the Cambridges. Not only because they may be at odds currently but also to make the hierarchy clear. They do not want the british media around them when Baby Sussex arrives but I strongly believe they will provide us with nice Instagram pictures soon after.

  3. Melly says:

Every mother should be able to choose how she gives birth. It’s insane to me that anyone feels they have a right to tell a woman, royal or otherwise, that she should give birth in a certain place with certain people. Then after going through labor have to get camera ready to take pics. If someone wants to do that, all the power to them. I can’t imagine wanting to do that.

    • Lilly (with the double-L) says:

This. @Melly I also felt that safety is a factor, so many crazies and biased press.

  4. aquarius64 says:

I still think it is a security matter. They don’t want the trolls who are claiming fake pregnancy to show up at the hospital and “prove” it and the Markles coming to the hospital to make a scene.

    • notasugarhere says:

Trolls will take this as “proof” that she is using a surrogate, they’re doing the exchange secretly so no hospital staff know, etc. Those nutters know no bounds.

      • Lorelei says:

@Nota I already saw a lot of that on Twitter this morning. I logged off because it’s just so stupid and infuriating and they’re never going to stop.

ETA: the same people going on about how there’s a surrogate and M isn’t really pregnant are many of the same who adore HM and W&K. So do they think the Queen is going along with this plan? Or do they think she’s so stupid that Meghan is fooling her too? Their hatred of Meghan defies logic. It is all so irritating.

      • Ader says:

Does the Royal Dish crowd now love Will and Kate?

Oh man, not sure why, but back in the day I used to peak at that site, and they would rip Kate apart. They were mortified that her skirts flew up a few times. Absolutely stricken over it. They would relentlessly call her a slut. And if I recall correctly, they thought she faked her pregnancy too, and that George was actually the child of some actress or something, and Will and Kate FORCED the actress and her husband to hand over the kid. lol. Whoooo wee! They were ca-ray-Z!

    • Lady D says:

Imagine the merry-go-round they could lead that pack of reporters on? If they decided to house-hop for the next 3 weeks, they could have the pack going in every direction. I’d do it if I was up to it just for the fun of it, and a little bit for payback.

  5. MeghanNotMarkle says:

For Meghan and the baby’s security I hope no one knows until they return home.

    • ByTheSea says:

Why do I kinda feel that she already gave birth?

      • Goob says:

I had that thought as well but I don’t know. And from the statement—that details would be released after they celebrated as a family—I think it could be days or even a couple weeks before they say anything or have their photocall.

      • BayTampaBay says:

Is Doria Ragland in London yet?

      • ADS says:

That’s my theory too, Polo baby is here already. And if that is right, then my respect for their media game – which is already high – will rocket into space!

      • Betsy says:

That was my first thought when I read this headline. If they were able to pull that one off, good on them!

    • TheHeat says:

Maybe they’re planning (or have already had) a home birth.

    • Becks1 says:

Honestly what I thought with the announcement about the Windsor gardens was that she has a c-section scheduled. And before everyone jumps on me about scheduled sections, there may be a health reason for it that obviously we don’t know about. But if she is having a C-section, it makes sense to me that they would wait a few days before doing the photo call.

      • Xoxo says:

There is nothing wrong with having a scheduled c section

      • Becks1 says:

@Xoxo – I agree (I had one) but when we had this convo last week some people got heated, but that may have been because the comment was about how she would have a scheduled section due to her age, which I doubt would be the reason. But it is entirely possible that there is another reason that they may prefer to go that route, and then waiting a few days makes sense to me. I could barely walk after my csections, but mine were both really rough.

    • Bella DuPont says:

For some strange reason, I’ve suddenly started worrying…..

Sending them lots of positive thoughts, energy, karma etc for the mother + baby’s health and security in the next few days and weeks. Nothing else matters.

  6. Loretta says:

I can’t wait for the photocall in the Windsor gardens. It will be beautiful!

  7. Toot says:

I’m happy that they made this decision. The UK press has been atrocious Meghan’s whole pregnancy.

I wouldn’t give them a “money shot” either. We’ll see the baby when they’re ready

  8. Digital Unicorn says:

Good for them and I hope it all goes well. Can’t wait to see the photos. It will be announced via Instagram with photos. To me it sounds like she is close to her due date and they r putting out boundaries.

Also that headed paper is generally only used by TQs press team as It’s the Royal seal so yeah the Sussex’s PR is being managed by BP and NOT KP, who have their own crest and headed paper, which we’ve all seen. KP will never admit to being kept out of the loop.

    • Melly says:

Good catch, I didn’t even notice the header or crest.

    • TheOriginalMia says:

      Good catch on the crest!

I’m glad they’ve decided against an appearance outside the hospital. Be it punishment for the British media’s bad behavior or security, I’m happy no one is forcing Meghan to do something that was ridiculous to begin with. Sorry, I had no need to see mother and child hours after birth.

      • V says:

It should have been ridiculous if Kate was forced to appear in public, which really took a few minutes in any case. But she seemed comfortable, happy and feeling well. Actually, those photos with George are among her best ones.
Above all, there were people waiting for them, and for George in particular there was incredible hype, with persons who were camping for hours outside. Leaving the hospital without greeting and acknowledging anyone would have been considered rude and disrespectful for those who pay for them, support the monarchy and bla,bla bla.
The same people who like to treat her as a doormat, stepford wife for those photo-ops,because Meghan doesn’t want to do the same, would have criticized them for being whiny, entitled, spoiled brats..

      • Becks1 says:

“presenting the baby” is one of those things that I like, I think its fun and special. And I do think that there was such buildup around George’s birth that presenting him that way was probably the best choice.

But, if Kate had said “eff it, not doing it” I would not have blamed her a bit. It’s an interesting thing for me because I love it like I said, but I also realize the unfair pressure it puts on the parents.

Kate’s pictures with George really were some of her best, IMO – her hair looked natural, the dress was pretty, she wore wedges – she looked lovely. With Charlotte and then Louis she looked more dressed up and formal each time, and while she still looked great, I liked the George pictures the best.

  9. Britt says:

Good. With the way the press and trolls have attacked and bullied this woman and their marriage, I’m glad they’re keeping it private. God knows the nastiness that would’ve been said about her child had they did a photo op. She would’ve been accused of being anti feminist and wanting the spotlight as well. RR’s keep saying that they’re minor royals and that the Cambridge’s are more important but they want and and expect the Sussexes to play, while continuing to be ripped to shreads.

    • Royalwatcher says:

Yeah, this. The RRs and Camb stans are constantly “reminding” everyone of how insignificant the Sussexes are and how far down the line and how they are minor royals…and yet most of them cannot stop talking about them. Constant stories from the RRs and constant comments from the Cambridge stans. The Sussexes sure do take up a lot of space in their minds for such minor, insignificant royals. It’s quite funny actually.

    • Mego says:

Spot on and I agree completely. There will be media hype around this the likes of which we haven’t seen in recent memory. There was huge hype around William and Harry’s births but I don’t recall nearly the same around any of the other Queen’s grandchildren. For years I was unaware that Edward and Sophie had a son and I had not heard about Louise’s difficult birth.

      • notasugarhere says:

They didn’t announce with James until Sophie was four months along, and she kept a low profile during most of that pregnancy. She had an ectopic pregnancy before Louise, and after the difficulty with Louise, they were extra careful when it came to James. She had a c-section, likely scheduled because of the experience with Louise. Sophie was 42 at the time, but don’t tell the people who thought Meghan was too old to get pregnant at 37.

      • V says:

There was a lot of hype about George as well.
In any case, good for them if they don’t want to be stalked outside the hospital. But if reporters will be notified, as someone is claiming,it’s a contradictory statement. In any case,I think it’s true they will do a photo op later,so I don’t think they’re underestimating the interst.

  10. Busyann says:

Hmmmm, I kind of think they are setting a tone here between personal life and work life. I know, that’s a fine line and because their lives are taxpayer funded, they should give the people what we want, but Harry is 6th in line, and eventually, when the cambridge kids grow up, what he and Meghan do won’t be of interest for most people, so why not draw some lines in the sand now? We never found out the details of their honeymoon and I doubt that we ever will. Im okay with this.

    • Becks1 says:

This is what I’m thinking, but am having trouble wording it right. this baby is not the same as the Cambridge babies – not from a popularity standpoint, but just from the hierarchy of the royal family. I think they are sort of drawing a line in the sand like you said.

  11. Bellagio says:

Optics-wise, whatever Meghan did, comparisons with Kate would be happening anyway.
Had she given birth at the same hospital and posed for pics mere hours after the birth like a Stepford wife, the public would have judged her.
This way, she is staying wherever she wants and doing the birth as she sees fit, so when they are ready to tell us about it, we will find out.
Meanwhile, this baby might not even have a title, so they don’t really own anything to anyone.
Last thing I’d want to worry about, if I were to give a birth, is public perception.
I understand that Brits have a right to know, and yet even that privilege doesn’t give them Kardashian-like closeup from the delivery room.
Sit down. drink your tea and when they announce on Instagram, you can click a like on it.
Everything else is a waste of time.

  12. Monica says:

BP said that it will be reported when Meghan will be in labour and when Baby Sussex is born. Then they will do a photocall at Windsor gardens some days after the birth.

    • Princessk says:

When did BP say that we will be told when she is in labour? I can’t believe that.

  13. mycomment says:

can’t fault them for this; the last thing she needs is to be hounded by these scumbag paps who will infiltrate the hospital.

  14. Kittycat says:

I’m really keen to see the royal reporters spin more crap.

They have no access, they have no idea.

    • Lucia says:

Katie Nicholl seems surprisingly happy with this decision and is basically acting like it’s good The Sussexes know their place. Some of the reporters are salty but I’ve seen a few detractors actually seem relatively calm over this and applauding them.

  15. Allison says:

All celebrities do it that way. It makes sense.

  16. Lucia says:

Meghan and Harry know exactly what they’re doing. They’re once again opting out of the British media’s narrative. The palace will frame it more as humility because that looks better for everyone. This is a close as Harry and Meghan can come to giving the British media two fingers.

  17. Mego says:

I think the privacy is possibly anxiety on Harry’s part because of the racist attacks on Meghan. He is genuinely afraid for the safety of his child and wants to keep the details private. Who can blame him? There is no need for them to risk public presentations or media hype like W&K. Some of these neo nazi types are darn scary. Although the Markles are grade a a******s, I don’t think they would cause physical harm to Meghan or the baby.

    • Oh No says:

Thank you! I think people are so focused on the lack of photo call they forget the serious, racist, vitriolic threats lobbed at Meghan and their child.

Also this should be a happy moment. The amount of articles and comments there would be two seconds after the child’s birth about their skin color, hair, nose, etc are going to be disgusting and all but certain

For the trash that went after Meghan, her baby will not be off limits… I foresee myself getting suspended from Twitter shortly after the photos are released

      • Bella DuPont says:

Lol re suspension from Twitter…..it’s a very small price to pay for fighting the good fight. 👍😁

      • Bren says:

“I foresee myself getting suspended from Twitter shortly after the photos are released.”

Omg I laughed out loud. Thank you because I needed that.

    • jan90067 says:

That’s exactly what I commented on upthread. There are SO many racists, WP nationalists, xenophobes, and just plain old nutters out there that have already “taken swings” at them? WHY would they subject their child to that hours after birth??

The way they’ve planned this, they have the control/controlled environment.

They won’t *always* be able to do this (control), but what/when they can, they will.

  18. Quintonrae says:

Isn’t the best way to avoid hyped speculation is to release information in advance? All this secrecy is not helping & is creating more confusion. The Cambridges revealed their birth plans 2 months in advance and there was no issue with security etc.

H&M say they want to keep it private but they’ll tell us when she goes into labor leaving everyone scrambling to guess where she is giving birth. Doesn’t make sense & it’s likely to have the opposite effect.

    • Heather says:

The Cambridges didn’t have white supremacists calling Prince William a race traitor who should be shot.

    • Iknow says:

Kate was giving birth to the future heirs of the British throne. The circumstances around that is very different.

      • Mego says:

This. H&M can do whatever is best for them like putting the safety of their child first,

      • notasugarhere says:

They’re all heirs to the throne. There are over 5000 of them in the official list.

    • Lucia says:

I suspect that Meghan has gone into labor = baby has been born.

This has all signs pointing to a home birth. The hospitals will only be necessary if something goes wrong. I hear that a helicopter will be on hand to take her to a hospital if need be.

  19. deezee says:

I do think the Royals can be really out of touch with what the public is really interested in and concerned about. Perhaps their desire for a private birth is based off of the more private births of his uncle’s children, specifically Prince Edward, as Harry would be old enough to remember their births and Prince Edward and his wife were away from the spotlight.
As no longer a direct heir to the thrown, interest should fall upon Charles, William, and his kids, George, specifically as heir. So in that instance, I get their preference for privacy.
That being said, Harry and William have always received way more attention that other royal siblings especially after the death of their mother. Interest in Harry is really high, his marriage to a non-Brit makes him even more interesting to the public, meaning there is a lot more interest than normal in the birth of H&M’s child. And that, I don’t think they truly understand.
Perhaps as George, Charlotte, and Louis age, interest in H&M and their children will wane, but not now.

    • Isabelle says:

There is a global interest in Harry and Meghan and not only in UK like William and Kate for example. Even Chris Ship said this and he’s so pressed!

    • Ainsley7 says:

Prince Edward and Sophie only had more private births because they lacked media interest. Sophie didn’t pose with Louise outside the hospital because they both nearly died and were in the hospital for quite a while. She did pose with James though.

    • notasugarhere says:

Sophie had an emergency c-section with Louise, but they still did a photocall for the crowd of photographers at the local hospital when Sophie left with Edward. A week or so later later they went to get Louise at her hospital and posed a second time. At least one photographer was allowed inside the hospital to take pictures of them collecting Louise and thanking the staff too. Then they posed outside the hospital with her for the rest of the photographers. They also did a hospital photocall with James.

  20. MCV says:

I think it’s the best way to do it at least it’s what i would do. Can’t imagine posing for people hours after giving birth (having to put make up on and dress up and everything).
This is what most of the European royal families do anyways.

    • notasugarhere says:

Most of the European royal families do the photocall outside the hospital as mother and child are being discharged. Mary, Alex, and Marie of Denmark did with all of their kids. The Dutch and Spaniards. Some of the Belgians and some of the Lux royals.

      • shastadaisy says:

I have this vague memory of Norway’s Mette-Marit discreetly leaving the hospital the day of her son’t birth carried on a stretcher. I don’t think anything was wrong, she just wanted to get home ASAP within hours of the birth.

  21. Ainsley7 says:

They will have to do a home birth to keep it that private. The press are likely keeping an eye on the local hospitals already. The press would be there within hours of their arrival. Without setting up security and preparations for the press, it would be a nightmare. I doubt the Sussexes security team would agree to that.

  22. Isabelle says:

Royal reporters are so pressed, I love it!

  23. Weaver says:

Good for them! There’s no reason for a child of the 6th in line to the throne to be paraded straight out of the womb.

So many people swore that “attention-hungry” Meghan would do the Lindo photo-op. Other than her baby shower she hasn’t really been in the spotlight outside of her engagements.

    • Kebbie says:

Lol and people at the DM who insisted she couldn’t wait for her red carpet moment even though she and the child weren’t important enough for such photos are now up in arms that she isn’t showing the baby because taxpayers are footing the bill! It’s not about anything but their hatred for her. Whatever Meghan decides, they’ll DEMAND the opposite.

  24. guest says:

Lord the saltiness coming from the RR. They have gone after Meghan throughout her whole pregnancy and have made it a point to remind us the Sussex family isnt really important and meghan needs to know their place. Now they are acting offended….lol.

The lindo thing is ridiculous. It was never an ancient royal family tradition, but they were acting like meghan was breaking the law.

  25. Hkk says:

They also have no idea how (black) this baby will look and people are hateful and terrible.
I birthed two biracial children and was disappointed with the world with the reactions from some people.

    • Kebbie says:

If the baby looks black, the racist dog whistles will reach a fever pitch. If it looks white, people will say it’s not Meghan’s baby, and she must have used a surrogate and donor egg. She cannot win with some people. But she’s living her best life and that’s the best revenge. She bagged the hot prince, and he completely adores her. That will always upset bitter people.

  26. Sash says:

Good for them. It’s about them and their comfort and wants, not a nosy public and press. We’ll be waiting regardless! Lol

  27. Iknow says:

I forgot where I read it, but apparently there was an open letter to Meghan published in a publication where a woman (can’t remember her name) asked Meghan not to do a photo-op in front of the hospital because of the perceived pressure it puts on women, who have given birth. She mentioned Kate when she gave birth to Louis, how Kate was fortunate to be able to stand outside the hospital with heels on, looking beautiful as ever. But most women aren’t that lucky. I wonder if Meghan has taken this to heart and has opted to forgo presentation in solidarity to many women who aren’t able to bounce back like Kate. I was floored by Kate. After pushing out my daughter, I can’t even talk about the swelling down there.

    • A Finn says:

I don’t have kids but I agree. It was horrible to see how women/mothers should be to be perfect in the eyes of the (patriarchal) world. I hope everything goes well and that baby Sussex btw – will be beautiful 🍾

    • jan90067 says:

      That was Kiera Knightly’s essay.

    • notasugarhere says:

Chelsea Hirschhorn of Fridababy with an ad/open letter in the NYTimes in March.

    • Yoyo says:

That letter was Vuglar, who is she to be telling Meghan what and how to present her child.
Using bait words like feminist, and whole lot of other crap.
She is not getting brownie points for Meghan’s choice.

    • Princessk says:

If Kate wanted to wear makeup, do her hair and wear heels, hours after giving birth, that is her prerogative. How is this putting pressure on ordinary women? Do they think they are going to give birth to a future King and have the worlds press waiting for them ?

      • Betsy says:

It drives a narrative for how women should look immediately post birth. Until I had had my own, I think I’d seen one woman immediately post birth and I had zero idea what birth entailed or how one might feel or look after.

      • PrincessK says:

Well people need to live in the real world, and not in a fantasy land where people believe that they have to follow the lives of people they look up to or follow who are in a completely different strata. If Kate’s actions are putting pressure on other people then they need help.

It is similar to the kind of pressure that social media puts on people to be the ‘ideal’ of everything. People need to learn that they can admire and ‘follow’ people without believing that they are failures if they don’t look exactly like them. Just like Meghan let is stop blaming Kate for everything, after all Diana looked immaculate after giving birth which we know is not ‘normal’ because she is not ‘normal’, an army of helpers make them look like that.

      • Betsy says:

And yet. What we see becomes normal, whether or not we try and think our way through that. And so, if one doesn’t have lots of birthing ladies in one’s life, walking fairly comfortably out of the hospital three hours post delivery in full makeup and hair with heels on can seem like a reasonable expectation. Kate felt up to it, good for Kate. I beat feet out of the hospital with my third baby, too, as fast as they’d let me. But that doesn’t change the fact that that’s not really how most women feel and in the absence of personal experience we look to visible examples.

    • MA says:

No. Meghan might have felt similarly on her own but she’s not making huge decisions like this because of a random person’s op-ed, that would be insane.

  28. guest says:

Well meghan is getting praised for this decision so expect more saltiness. 🤷‍♀️

    • MA says:

Those people stay 24/7 salty. Can’t imagine being so miserable and hateful about everything a stranger does.

  29. Blanca says:

RRs didn’t know about Harry & Oprah project, they don’t know nothing about the plans for the Baby Sussex birth and now many will be cut off from the photocall. It’s what they deserve, Harry and Meghan know that revenge is a dish that should be consumed cold and today they gave to the RRs a nice royal f**** you.

  30. Kats says:

Ha,ha,they are giving royal reporters what they deserve

    • Lucia says:

What I hope occurs is that photocall time rolls around and the only photographers from the major news outlets like The Times, The Telegraph, and The Guardian are invited. That will send an even bigger message.

      • gingersnaps says:

Even some of the telegraph reporters are horrible to them.

      • Lucia says:

Yeah but they aren’t really a tabloid paper like The Daily Mail has become. Besides, Harry and Meghan can’t cut off everyone. The Guardian still has a decent reputation. My main thing was bring in the London Big 3 only.

      • Rosalee says:

I would imagine Dad dearest and the dream team siblings would be flown over at the expense of a tabloid. They would be placed in an area which would force an interaction with Harry, Meghan and baby Polo..it would be messy and uncomfortable for the new parents. The tabloids would go insane..

      • V says:

@The Guardian may publish occasional op-eds about the royals, but it’s the last “serious” UK newspaper that would publish “royal exclusives”. Their readers are not only republican, but every time they allow comments about the family, there’s no need to read past the first three ones to know how their core target feels about them.

      • Princessk says:

They will have media outlets like AP who will make pictures available to everyone.

    • V says:

If they do a photo call as many are saying,is this really true, though? It doesn’t make much difference. A restricted number of photographers will be allowed, but these pics will be immediately published by every site and tabloids.

      • Lucia says:

Of course. But it makes the worst outlets like DM, The Sun, and VF look foolish to be tossed out. Regardless, Harry and Meghan have sent a message to the British media that is loud and clear saying “We control our narrative and will not participate in yours regardless of veracity.”

  31. ShazBot says:

If she has a home birth, nobody will have to find out until they want them to, which I think is great. I hope everything goes smoothly and she gets the birth that she wants.

  32. one of the Marys says:

I don’t know who are the royal reporters. do you all follow them on twitter or via their publications? I’d love to read some of their reactions, they do sound awful and impossible to please

    • Beach Dreams says:

There are so many of them. Some of the worst ones in my opinion are Richard Palmer, Camilla Tominey, Katie Nicholl, Emily Andrews…they’re quite easy to find on Twitter. Chris Ship is another shady reporter who likes to play both sides of the fence when it comes to professionalism vs pettiness. He displayed some of that two-faced attitude in reacting to today’s update.

      • Lorelei says:

        Don’t forget about Rebecca English.

Chris Ship’s comment this morning about inviting Oprah into the hospital room was petty and gross and made me lose any remaining respect I had for him (which wasn’t much at this point).

IMO Emily Andrews and Richard Palmer are generally the worst, but they all have their moments.

      • Becks1 says:

I think its weird that Rebecca English has a picture of Will and Kate presenting Charlotte as her twitter pic.

      • bonobochick says:

        Don’t forget Valentine Low.

Also, Dickie Arbiter is on twitter too.

    • Jan says:

Omid Scobie, Emily Nash and Victoria Arbiter are the best of the bunch, with Omid head and shoulders over the rest.

      • Lucia says:

I hadn’t heard of Omid until today but I just followed him on Twitter. I really like Victoria Arbiter. I read her regularly and she seems very fair in her reporting. She is backing up the decision and saying that it’s good for Harry to establish the privacy of Baby Sussex now and is maintaining the precedent. She also seems to be throwing some shade at reporters who feel we are entitled to the first look of Baby Sussex but complained about Meghan stealing the spotlight from Kate.

      • bonobochick says:

Victoria Arbiter is the only one I recall pushing back on that narrative about DoS breaking protocol by tweeting pictures of other British royals doing or wearing the things that DoS is accused of doing that supposedly violate protocol. She and Omid are the two least negative, troll baiting RRs in the bunch. They’re worth following on twitter.

    • Bluthfan says:

There’s is a twitter list called royal correspondents that has all of them together. That’s what I use to see what they are saying.

    • MA says:

Add to the good reporter list: Hannah Furness, Victoria Murphy, Max Foster, Kier Simmons (although to the latter 2 are “real journalists” and only do royal stuff part-time). Max Foster had has some really good CNN panels and articles analyzing the racist and sexist sentiment about Meghan, calling out how there’s this idea by some royalists of her “polluting” this white institution. Kier has defended Meghan and called out the unfair media treatment as well. Hannah Furness and Victoria Murphy are more traditional royal reporters who go to the daily engagements, but their reporting is all fact-based and they don’t get into petty fights. I’ll add Carolyn Durand with the caveat that she did some mildly shady things early on but since has stuck to fact-based, non-inflammatory reporting.

Add to the trash reporter list: Robert Jobson, who accused Meghan of lying about making banana bread and is trying to hawk a positive book about H&M now.

  33. Beach Dreams says:

The bitterness from the royal reporters has been amazing to see. They really believed that after months of attacking a pregnant woman, they’d get front row seats for a Lindo Wing birth. Good on Meghan for doing what she feels is best for herself and her baby.

  34. ShockandAwwww says:

They know how much interest is in the baby. Remember Suri Cruise? An entire month and then the most exquiaite magazine cover/feature. I am hoping they will do the same. Give themselves a few weeks and then release an updated family photo series on the grounds of Frogmore House (a la their engagement shoot). This baby is not an heir, her delivery is NOT a public event. I am 100% behind them. It is way too much expense to have security and shutting down streets.

    • Olive says:

the siri cruise cover was WAY longer than a month after her birth – probably closer to six months!

    • AryasMum says:

Suri was at least three months old when she appeared for the first time.

    • MA says:

It’s funny because I saw some people using the “British taxpayers!!!” angle when this is actually the most cost-effective choice.

  35. Vanessa says:

I don’t blame Meghan and Harry for wanting their baby birth to be private the way some of this royal reporters have acted toward Meghan is peak racism they have attacked her through her pregnancy. They used so called sources to bully her throughout her pregnancy they print endless stories about her they used her disgusting family to attack her . The royal reporters have some sick entitlement toward Meghan they think that she their to torture and abuse and no one especially the American media and some of Meghan friends are not allowed to defend her or speak out about the double standards the racist abuse she getting . It’s funny how the royal reporters and the Cambridge stans love to say that Meghan and Harry are not important they don’t matter but it’s clearly for the outrage over not being able to photograph Meghan and Harry baby by the royal reporters they are important.

  36. WineGrrl says:

Hope she gets to have a safe, private home birth. There’s nothing private about giving birth in a hospital, even when you’re not famous. It seems like everyone has a chance to glimpse your hoohoo, esp. if you’re at a teaching hospital.

  37. Sof says:

Kate’s nurse commited suicide after falling for a prank call, so I sincerely don’t think there’ll be any leaks. Whatever information we get will be approved by Meghan and Harry.

  38. Eliza says:

I feel bad for this baby already having so many tin-hat people “confirming” surrogacy due to the statement. Harry had the rumors of having a different dad due to being ginger (even though D had ginger on her side and look at those windsor sausage fingers)… and there’s already stupid rumors of surrogacy that now they will never go away because they’re doing a “private” event of “awaiting the arrival” no offical language about it being a birth. People are allowed their privacy.

    • guest says:

Yep I see them analyzing this baby just like they did harry. Its sad and disgusting but KP did nothing to stop these rumors about Meghan.

    • V says:

Those surrogacy theories will never go away, and the rampant use of social media is making things worse. But they should just do what they want. Probably the same obsessive haters would have found a way to keep the conspiracy theories going on with a photocall soon after the birth as well.

    • SpilldatT says:

I truly do no understand why people think they are used a surrogate? Where did this thinking even come from? It’s so weird to me to think that much about someone else’s pregnancy.

    • gm says:

The surrogacy rumors are insane. This baby is so far down the line that short of a catastrophe it would never be king/ queen (and don’t get me going on why just due to birth luck someone would get to be king/queen) so what would it matter even if it was a surrogate or even a donor egg/ sperm?

      • Lucia says:

I imagine if it were a surrogacy, they would’ve bucked tradition and openly gotten a surrogate, no matter how much controversy it caused.

It seems silly. Megan seems to have kept her weight gain to a minimum but it’s pretty clear she’s pregnant. People just want an excuse to hate and invalidate her some more.

      • MA says:

Because to these sick people, subconsciously they buy into the notion that surrogacy or donors means that a mother is “less than” as if this is not 2019. Somehow using a surrogate/donor would signify a great personal and moral failing on Meghan’s part, as a woman and mother. This group of conservative, racist people really reveal their small-mindedness.

  39. Casey20 says:

Maybe the due date is the Queens Birthday and they don’t want to overshadow an important day for the Queen. Whatever the reason, it’s clear that Harry and Meghan are making this decision. I appreciate the fact that they don’t want their child on display for the CRAZY British Media to attack. I’m also guessing Meghan doesn’t want her child growing up feeling less than the Cambridge children, it’s unAmerican so I assume no titles

  40. Nicegirl says:

I’m so happy to hear this news. Meghan is smart and would want to keep baby as stress free as possible. Cocooning a baby post birth is nice for baby and parents.

Of course I’m so so excited to see the pics of baby beautiful in the garden with gorgeous Mom and likeable Dad. Yay baby 🍼

  41. Claire says:

Oh praise the LAWD! Good for them. Now maybe we won’t have to read about it until they make their own announcement. No shade intended at all, I adore them, but am a bit fatigued with all the speculative articles. Let’s just wait it out and be happy for them when the time comes!

    • SpilldatT says:

      Me, too.

Just let them have the baby & we’ll see the baby when we see the baby.

Why the huge drama over it every day is beyond me.

  42. Loretta says:

Prince Harry is glowing at his engagement today. He looks so happy

  43. MA says:

    Her body. Her choice. PERIOD.

  44. Katie says:

I doubt it’s a matter of them underestimating public interest – they simply want privacy and have the balls to do it their own way

  45. Kristina says:

On a different note, she looks freaking incredible!! People always says women get that glow when they’re pregnant, but she’s taken it to whole new level. Damn!

  46. RoyalBlue says:

There was another thread on whether she will present or not and I stand by what I said then

Home birth, no presentation, release on IG when they choose. Safe delivery!

  47. Casey20 says:

I love it when the Sussex’s give the British Media and the haters the middle finger!!!

  48. HeyThere! says:

Why do I feel like this baby is born or about to be ASAP! Watch they go dark for a full 2 month! Good for them, hope they do whatever they want!

  49. Wow says:

I hope they are able to pull this off. The media doesnt deserve to know anything about this baby.

  50. Casey02 says:

So the British Sun continues with the crazy! They now claim the British people have been denied the enjoyment of a royal birth by the DoS! They go on to say that with all the crap from Brexit the British people had been looking forward to the birth with all the pomp and circumstance like other royal births….I mean really. They have attacked the DoS her entire pregnancy and they wonder why she wants privacy!

    • Lucia says:

The Sun wasn’t going to be happy either way.

Does the Lindo Wing Tango: “How dare she!!!! Her child is not in line to throne, quit acting like Kate!”

Goes Private: “Who does she think she is to deny us a chance to see the new baby?! Blah, blah, blah, etc.”

      • Casey02 says:

Very vile article! Just proof they made the right decision. I think Meghan sees the dysfunctional relationship between the British Media and RF… she’s not having it! They expect the Royal Family to just sit quite and take the bullying and character assignation.

  51. intheknow says:

They should have the baby pic exclusively to Vanity Fair or People….

  52. blunt talker says:

The brutal stories in the British media towards Meghan and Harry is the reason to go private. Anyone with half a brain knows this. Smearing their names and attacking everyday and the media want full access to the new baby. I give Harry and Meghan two thumbs up for their decision about their own family. Kate and Diana had to do these photos after giving birth because of the children’s direct line to the throne. Meaning their first born or eldest child. The Sussexes don’t have this pressure. They have choices and they have made it. If they want to enjoy a private birth and private time with their newborn let them. They are the parents.

  53. Rathernotthanx says:

Oh for the love of !
THE most publicity hound not posing for a photo op
Oh good grief it’s so the surrogate can have the baby in peace.

    • Casey02 says:

      One of those people…empty barrels

    • Olenna says:

      @RATHERNOTTHANX,
Girl, take your meds and go back to bed. The only hound is you, seeking attention, and its way too early in the morning for your psycho babblings.

  54. Birdy says:

https://twitter.com/PackhamGown has a tweet from the media release that was published and they will do a photo call with the baby in the grounds of Windsor castle and that the long walk will be open to the press to use once Meghan goes into labour.
