Scarlett Johansson in Tom Ford at an ‘Endgame’ screening: weird or hot?

Avengers Endgame screening

Marvel has got this promotional tour thing down to a science. Even though every one of their films makes hundreds of millions of dollars in a matter of days, Marvel doesn’t spend a ton of money on massive premieres around the world. They usually organize one huge premiere, maybe two, and then the rest of the tour consists of TV appearances for the actors or much smaller “screening events” with only a few of their stars.

So it was last night in London – Paul Rudd, Chris Hemsworth and Scarlett Johansson were sent to do a “fan screening” of Avengers: Endgame. They were all dressed like it was a big premiere though. Scarlett wore this Tom Ford suit – I guess we can call it a suit? – which seems to be sculpted around one boob. It’s a really strange design and the fabric does NOT look like something Tom Ford would choose. Chris and Paul are both wearing suits by Etro.

Rudd turned 50 years old last week and people were like “HOW?” As everyone dug into Rudd’s history as a vampire, they discovered his 2017 episode of Finding Your Roots, where we learned that Rudd is descended from Ashkenazi Jews, and that his parents were second cousins. Just FYI. Also: his family fled the rising tide of anti-Semitism in Europe mid-20th century, even after his grandfather fought with the Allies. It’s a lot.

On a lighter note, Chris Hemsworth is making noise about how he’d like to be considered for James Bond after Daniel Craig retires. That makes no sense to me – Hemsworth famously hated the Marvel system and how the character of Thor took over his life. If he did get the 007 role, it would be ten times worse.

Did Chris Hemsworth hate the Marvel system? I thought that was more a Chris Evans thing. Though I’m sure they’ve all complained at one time or another. It didn’t leave them much time for anything else.

He certainly hated it around Thor the Dark World time! Oh did he ever! Seems to have softened once he was given some input on Ragnorok.

007 is a dreadful idea. He’d be dull as dirt in the role. He does better with some goofiness rather than dry wit. Interesting that he seems to have given up on any prestige or heavy drama acting like he tried earlier. It’s all franchises or generic war action pics. Or considering how badly his attempts at straight drama crashed and burned it may not have been his choice. Either way good moves now, make your coin.

It’s an interesting ensemble, but I think it would suit someone tall like Nicole Kidman. She’d look amazing in it.

I think with the James Bond movies, the time isn’t so rushed. He’d probably do a movie once every 18 months. He’d bring an interesting energy to the role, because I can’t see him being brooding at all.

I think he hated Thor in the beginning but once he found his groove with the character he’s enjoyed it. I could see him being 007. Since he cut his hair I’ve thought he was super hot!

Also, I wish her suit jacket was just the same on both sides rather than weird around one boob on one side. And I don’t understand the one sleeve thing.

He didn’t hate Thor at the beginning – he was thrilled, it was his big break. He was less fond of the studio during Avengers I (although he loved his director and co-stars) and hated it during the roll out of the second film. It was a terrible film and the actors knew it.

Additionally, once they got past the first films, a lot of the stars were deeply unhappy with the fact that they were in films making hundreds of millions, even billions, and still earning relatively paltry salaries. It put a sour taste in most of their mouths. RDJ had to push quite hard on their behalf to get any kind of increase for them (still not what they probably should have been getting).

Let’s not forget that when Isaac Perlmutter was CEO/Chairman of Marvel he was notoriously stingy and tight and a lot of the actors became frustrated that he was so stingy with them when Marvel was making so much money out of them. His oversight ended in 2015 and everyone has been much happier since. Kevin Feige no longer has to go into battle with him and reports directly to the Chairman of Walt Disney Studios. Feige was incredibly frustrated so the actors weren’t the only ones chafing! All Isaac cared about was what he thought would make more money – to the detriment of everything and everyone else – and that bothered a lot of them. Everyone is so much happier in that studio since Isaac was pushed out.

Also, when it comes to that second Thor movie and it’s promotion, I’m pretty sure that Chris was filming In The Heart Of The Sea throughout much of the promo period and that it was a gruelling shoot.

I think with Isaac gone in 2015, the initial contracts ending and new ones or extensions being negotiated, more creative freedom and input, and getting to work with a director he liked on a story that was fresh and fun; it revived his feelings about Thor and Marvel significantly.

Can’t stand her but she looks sexy here. I like that suit a lot.

Also, it looks like she’s finally growing out her hair. Hurrah.

  6. Anya says:

I like how she looks in this. It looks different but hot.

  7. Naddie says:

I liked. It’s sober and distinctive at the same time.

  8. Valiantly Varnished says:

I like the suit. It’s different. But I think it would be better suites to someone taller. Charlize would look great in this.

Chris hated doing Thor because of how Thor was written in the first two films. He felt Thor was boring – which he was. But they completely revamped the character in Ragnarok and he got a lot of inout and control over the character along with Taika Waititi. He enjoyed that process and it showed in the film. Now I don’t think he will get any kind of control if he did Bond no one but Barbara Broccoli gets any control over than franchise or character so I think it would be stifling for him. And I also just don’t think he’s right for the role. Chris isn’t the broody mysterious kind which is needed for that role I think

I love the bracelet. The suit looks a bit odd on her but it’s certainly an eye-catcher and I like her hair like that.
Chris Hemsworth looks absolutely gorgeous, not certain whether I can picture him as James Bond though, I would have to sleep on that.

  10. TheMummy says:

I’m just glad she’s growing her awful short hair out. The short hair just does not work for her and she has insisted on it for years and years. She’s so pretty, but the short hair makes me think her head looks like it’s alien shaped.

  11. SM says:

That suit looks like they confused the dates of the premiere and Scarlet’s people had to rip the thing unfinished from the people making the dress in the middle of the process.

  12. Alyse says:

I love all 3 people in that photo

  13. dj says:

Paul Rudd is a delicious vampire! Chris Hemsworth is not my choice for Bond. Tom Hardy would be a fabulous James Bond. He might not do it because I think he would want more control. But after seeing him in Inception and even Venom he can do action and clean up beautifully in a suit.
