Taylor Swift will probably drop her new album on April 26th, or will she?!

iHeart Radio Music Awards - Arrivals

Well, well. I wondered why Taylor Swift suddenly appeared on the covers of Elle and Elle UK for the April issues. I wondered why, because it didn’t seem like Taylor had anything in particular to promote. We all knew that Taylor had been working on new music after her Reputation Tour ended, but no one knew when or how. Going by her past album drops, I was expecting a late summer or early fall album drop, with a glitzy-yet-silent promotional tour. But no, I was wrong. It looks like Taylor wants us to know that she’ll be dropping new music on April 26th, the Friday after Easter.

Taylor changed up her social media (Twitter and Instagram) with new profile pics of a cloudy pink-lavender something or other. Both Twitter and IG have “4.26” in the description too, and a link to Taylor’s official site, which has a clock counting down until… T-Day, I would assume. Tay Day. Taylor also posted this on Saturday:

Lord, I hope that’s not her engagement ring. She’s been dropping hints to People Magazine and Us Weekly for months now that she wants Joe Alwyn to propose. I don’t think Joe would get her such a cheeseball engagement ring, right? And why would be counting down to a date if she was engaged? Is she getting surprise-married or something? No, the safest bet is an album drop and that the album is full of pink-purple heart-shaped imagery. She’s in love. She wants to perform that love for us. She can’t help herself.

Also: does anyone else think it’s weird that Taylor is going to drop a new album or new music in the middle of the six weeks where everyone in pop culture will be focused on Game of Thrones? Some of you will argue that Taylor is a big enough deal to get attention whenever she wants, but yeah, that’s my point – she could have chosen any time. Why drop it in the middle of GoT’s last season? Is this a Sand Snake Plot??

I think dropping it in the middle of GoT doesn’t matter tons because they’re different forms of media. it’s not like she’s releasing her own TV show. heck, Beyonce is releasing her Netflix film in the middle of GoT and no one of saying she shouldn’t do that.

I’ve been saying for a bit now that she was going to release a shiny happy new album based on her Instagram and those magazines, so here’s hoping I’m right! I really doubt that’s an engagement ring, also.

    • Eliza says:

Agreed. GoT is one night of the week. I mean it’s not going to be the only story for 1.5 months straight. Its also Polo Baby’s arrival time and Avengers Endgame premiere. Every industry will still keep moving even if GoT is ending.

Omg if he got her that horrid pink cluster heart nightmare ring I will cackle myself to death. That is hideous!!

I’m hoping for a music release and in the video there will be footage from their secret wedding- so it will be “surprise! We’re already married!” Because I don’t know if I can stomach the news cycle of “engaged snake plans wedding” and then all the wedding coverage. Please elope, Taylor.

    • Eliza says:

It’s definitely not a ring. It’s probably a necklace or pendant from the new songs video or “album”-art.

  3. Annie. says:

I seriously doubt that is her engagement ring lol.
And I don’t think she is releasing an album, probably just a single

  4. Monstercat says:

Here for a single drop first – it’s been her MO with the last two albums and I suspect the imagery will be video clip related. Hoping for a return to country because I feel like that’s where she fits best (I think she’s an excellent lyricist, and country is IMO the most emotionally “honest” form of personal diary music genre- so it works for her. And she’s an average singer, in the nicest way). Predicting/hoping she will go to a sweet spot somewhere between 1989/Red and the banger she wrote for Little Big Town.

  5. HelloSunshine says:

My guess is she’s dropping a single and releasing a video for it at the same time. I’d be really surprised if she dropped an entire album although I don’t have any reason as to why she wouldn’t lol

I’m up for a new Swift album. Loved 1989, hated Reputation. A livey dovey step back to 1989style would be great.

    • Alissa says:

it’s funny, I listen to reputation a million times more than I listen to 1989. 1989 was just filled with a bunch of songs that were just okay to me, reputation had several duds but the songs that I liked I really really liked. I’m hoping that she’s somewhere between reputation and red, but I’m sure that won’t be the case.

  7. Nicegirl says:

Look what they made her do

  8. helloitsme says:

The GoT fanbase is sort of like the Snake army, as in everything revolves around themselves. There are a lot of people that do not watch the show. I don’t think it’s weird at all if she drops a single during their season. The two are not remotely related. Now if she made a cameo on that show… then that would be weird.

    • Darla says:

I would think more people have watched the Marvel movies than seen GoT. And that’s Endgame weekend . And yet I still dont think it matters.

  9. Case says:

I don’t see what GoT and Taylor Swift have to do with one another? There’s room for more things in pop culture than the show. She’ll probably just drop a single unless she’s changing up her formula. I expect a summer or fall album.

I’m excited for a lighter album. Reputation was okay, but a bit contrived and doesn’t have a lot of re-listen value for me, whereas I love 1989.

  10. Miss M says:

So… she is releasing something on the opening weekend of Avengers: Endgame…

  11. Nicki says:

I think she’s releasing a single and album will come later.

  12. Sorella says:

I find all her clues and hints SO TIRESOME!! I find it hard to believe she is almost 30, her persona is still that of a 16 year old with a summer crush to me. She likes to be all mysterious though, but most of her songs and behavior is as deep as a puddle really.

  13. Meadow says:

“Everyone in pop culture will be focused on Game of Thrones”– really? There are plenty of people who don’t care at all about that show. It’s just like literally any other fandom. It’s not special. I’d understand if there was some other major album drop in the same genre but a tv show that’s ending is something that’s supposed to affect what the rest of the entertainment industry does? That’s just stupid.

  14. Claudia says:

Joe seems the understated type, I wouldn’t expect a ring like that from him. Probably just some album cover or single cover detail

  15. clairej says:

    Love Taylor! I am excited

  16. Bee says:

Countdowns are passe. Wouldn’t you be better off just “BAM!” releasing? Anyway, can’t muster up any interest in Taylor, her music, or her bland boyfriend.

  17. Ferdinand says:

She’s defeating Thanos all by herself!

  18. Betsy says:

I’ve never seen a single episode of GOT. I’d be happy for a diversion from seeing it and its tedious branding everywhere.

  19. Nicole says:

April 26 is the release date for Avengers:EndGame. It seems more likely that this is a calculated move to try to overshadow the most highly anticipated movie of the year, from the franchise that made Tom Hiddleston famous. She can say she’s in love with Joe all she wants, but it’s clear that she’s not letting go of Hiddles any time soon.

  20. Ellie says:

It’s most likely just the first single, not the full album.
