Duchess Meghan & Harry thanked all of their supporters who donated to charity

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex want to give us a heart attack! Dropping an Instagram post about charity when we’re all primed to expect a big baby announcement any day now. The Sussexes posted this about an hour ago, with this long-ass message:

Just one week ago, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex asked that you kindly consider supporting various organisations around the world in lieu of sending gifts for the upcoming arrival of their first born. Not only did many of you lend your support, you took action.

Their royal highnesses wanted you to know the impact of your support – the direct effect your donation, energy, and action made! YOU chose to be part of the collective good, and you have a made a real difference.

Whether a $5 donation, £1000 contribution, offering to volunteer, or spreading the word – you’ve played your part. And on behalf of The Duke and Duchess (and Baby Sussex), we thank you so much.

YOUR IMPACT:

Lunchbox Fund will now be able to provide a minimum of 100,000 additional hot nutritionally fortified meals to children in dire need across South Africa

Little Village received donations from all over the world (from UAE to Hong Kong and the US), they’ve increased their monthly donors, had a surge in volunteer applications, and re-energized their hard working team of 200+ staff and volunteers

Well Child can now provide 300+ additional hours of specialist care by a Well Child Nurse for a child with serious health needs, allowing families to stay together at home vs in hospital

Baby2Baby have received over 5,000 products to disperse to children in need, including cribs, books, backpacks, diapers and have received monetary donations from around the globe – from Guadalajara to Italy. You made this happen. Thank you.

I was startled because I thought they were saying “with just one week to go” and I was like “yaaas, Easter Monday baby.” But no. It could happen at any time. Baby Sussex isn’t here yet, but almost. As for the charity stuff… I’m glad so many people donated to charity in lieu of sending baby gifts. It’s what all royals should do, honestly.

I really like the long captions from the Sussex IG. They’re using the platform to inform about the causes and organizations they’re visiting.

  2. Becks1 says:

Such an impressive show of support for them and their charities. I loved this message.

  3. Dee says:

    Lovely!

  4. Reese. says:

Such a lovely message from a lovely couple

  5. Jaded says:

Why couldn’t the Cambridges do something like this for the births of their 3 children?

    • runcmc says:

To be fair to the Cambridges, this wasn’t the Sussex’s idea either. The idea came from a tweet that ended up blowing up, and then when it garnered a lot of social media interest the Sussexes posted it on their instagram as well.

Hopefully if there’s a Cambridge #4 they’ll follow suit. Who knows with those two though.

    • Sersoup says:

If you’ve been following the royals for a while you’d know that the Cambridges did ask the public to donate to their designated charities in lieu of baby gifts. There was also a social media drive that was started by a fan when Kate was pregnant with George that was similar to the global Sussex baby shower.

The problem is some people were not following the royals until recently so they have no idea of what came before. However all it takes is a quick search on Google!

      • Lorelei says:

Nope, I’ve been following the royals for decades. Kate never acknowledged anything like this. I doubt she has a clue how much was raised.

      • WigletWatcher says:

        This feels like a revision…
I’ve followed this gossip stream since the dating years of the cambridge’s and it didn’t unfold like the Sussex…
It was suggested donations be made, but no actual direction. And when Kate did receive donations she chose a few of the basic to be repurposed for her few patronages as what felt like an after thought by her people with no touch of her hand. The rest? We don’t know what happened to them.

M&H… they gave direction and personalized it. Kept up. Updated. Even if only their people. It was better handled. And this was only their 1st baby.

    • Salvation says:

They did. What I don’t recall is them thanking fans or even updating them of how their donations helped or impacted the chosen charity.

It is a lovely thing to encourage. It’s one thing for “royals” or really any celebrity to get gifts from friends/families, but from the public? The “charity shower” is such a better way to go. There’s nothing royals/celebs can’t/won’t get for themselves. If fans want to contribute, to do so to their favs’ favorite charity is a great idea.

  7. Susie says:

These two are killing it BECAUSE their heart is in the right place and people around the world can feel it! They took the time to figured out these numbers because they care…

  8. RoyalBlue says:

They are so sweet and unselfish. I love how they use their platform to highlight their charities and also made an effort to point out exactly how the charities benefited. It’s not just about the money but it’s like they are showing the receipts too. Fantastic example, and if they were to leave the RF today I could see them having an independent future in philanthropy too.

    • WigletWatcher says:

Even if they are selfish privately they are not publicly. And that matters!
They are figureheads. Minimum for their roles is to be perceived well. And they are blowing that away… amazingly well. I do believe though that they are genuine.

  9. HeyThere! says:

Reading that post made me realize how much I like them! Good for them helping out all these organizations! That’s a true gift from people who care about them! That had to feel good.

Okay the gossip side: This baby is here. I can feel it. LOL I wouldn’t bet my life on it, but I think this baby is here. I’ll be fine if I’m wrong but this is just what I’m feeling! 😂

  10. Kittycat says:

It’s a great grassroots campaign from the supporters of the Sussexes.

But yeah I really cant wait to see their baby whenever they announced the birth.

  11. a reader says:

Come on, Polo Baby Sussex, show up on Wednesday so we can share a birthday!

    *fingers crossed*

  12. Alissa says:

I’m really hoping the baby is born on the 23rd, like Louis last year, because I think it will be funny if they share a birthday.

Also, it’s my birthday, so obviously I think it’s the best day of the year!

  13. Anastasia says:

    This is wonderful!

    NOW WHERE’S THE BABY? 😉

  14. Lorelei says:

The way the numbers and impact are broken down in that post — have we EVER seen any sort of tangible results from William and Kate for anything they’ve ever done? And this isn’t even a project that was initiated by Harry and Meghan; it was done by their fans but they’re giving it the credit it deserves, which is wonderful.

Meghan is so good at this job!! She *gets it* in a way that Kate never did and likely never will.

    • TeamAwesome says:

You know, the Cambridge PR people SHOULD get it. They should be better. That’s what’s been so frustrating to me before the two “courts” split.

      • Lorelei says:

It’s unreal how bad the Cambridges PR is. It is so simple and Meghan gets it.

It isn’t “desecrating” anything to point this out.

    • Linda says:

      @Lorelei
Why desecrate something so pure and selfless by comparing this to Kate’s actions?

  15. Bren says:

Or maybe polo baby will be born on Earth Day; sandwiched between the queen’s birthday on 4/21 and Louis’s birthday on 4/23.

  16. Charfromdarock says:

If the baby is born on the 21st, she’ll be accused of trying to upstage The Queen’s birthday and Easter Sunday!

  17. Amirah says:

I can’t wait for her SnapBack! She is going to look gorgeous. Every new mum I know has regained their pre baby body within months. One of close friends had a baby girl last May and by August she was in a bikini in Sardinia. Not all women need years and we certainly don’t need an army of help to get back into shape. Post baby body goals is what Meghan will be showing off by the summer. Oh I remember Kate’s sister also had a banging bod after her baby; staying active throughout pregnancy and eating right really does go a long way. The first pics of Meghan and Baby Sussex will be Meghan with her hair and makeup naturally done like Kated was styled a few days after George was born; soft, glowing & a natural makeup look. I am guessing Meghan will wear flats or maybe heels/low hells with a pretty dress if the weather permits!

    • tcbc says:

This is a very strange comment. To any mother who might stumble upon this and feel guilty because you haven’t “snapped back” yet, please know that people who value you for your appearance rather than your character and heart aren’t people worth knowing.

    • Katherine says:

What a strange comment indeed. Apparently a woman has nothing else to offer besides her bangin body and soft makeup. This is really appallingly body shaming and judgmental.

    • Cleo17 says:

Seriously- do you even go here?

What a gross, bitchy, body-shaming comment.
