Eva Mendes says her body is too curvy & sexy for normal clothes

Eva Mendes is the cover girl for August’s Marie Claire UK. I just checked Eva’s IMDB page, and it doesn’t look like she’s out promoting any film, so perhaps she’s just promoting her modeling contracts and her new linen line (more on that in a second). What Eva lacks in film roles, she makes up for with buzz worthy side projects, so kudos to her.

This interview excerpt (via the Daily Mail) is a bit strange, which only confirms my one opinion of Eva: she’s a very pretty girl, but she’s weird. Not in a bad way, she’s just kind of out-of-it and off in her own little world. A little eccentric or a little flighty, perhaps. But other than that, she seems harmless and nice. She talks a little bit about going to rehab last year, and how she’s in therapy, and how she loves “peaceful” cemeteries. The biggest headline out of the interview is her complaint about her curvy body. Eva says that she has to be careful about how she dresses, because her curves can make an outfit “go distasteful in a second.”

Eva Mendes is known as one of the world’s most beautiful women, with her dark Cuban hair, sultry smile and full lips. So it may come as a surprise to learn that the star of 2 Fast 2 Furious worries about her voluptuous body looking ‘distasteful’.

The U.S. beauty says that she has to ‘walk a fine line’ when choosing her clothing. Last year Eva had an advert banned from U.S. TV screens for showing a flash of her nipple, and earlier this year starred in a sultry campaign for CK Underwear.

But she told Marie Claire magazine: “I love my curves and I embrace them, but I have to walk a fine line. There are certain dresses that are like: ‘Oh, this is really feminine. This isn’t sexy at all’, but then I’d try it on and it just turned.”

“I think it comes down to being voluptuous, and if your body’s a certain way, then things can go distasteful in a second.”

The 35-year-old, who spent a short spell in rehab last year, also revealed that she credits four years of therapy with changing how she deals with fame.

“[I’m] a woman who has been through life experiences, thank God, and therapy. I love therapy!” she said. “I’m very into it. I’m very in touch with my feelings, so I’m a completely different person. Not that different but you know… I gotta tell you, there’s nothing like going in and sitting down and talking to someone who has no emotional tie to your life. Just to talk to someone. It’s amazing.”

Eva also makes the unusual revelation that she likes nothing better than visiting cemeteries.

“I love cemeteries. They’re so beautiful and peaceful.” She has visited Oscar Wilde’s grave in Paris and London’s Highgate Cemetery, the burial place of Karl Marx. “The older the better,” she says.

I tend to agree with Eva – my curves are a big more hardcore than hers, and I have real problems finding blouses that don’t make me look like a hooker. A simple V-neck sweater on a girl with B-cups looks fine, but on me, it looks like I’m trying to be provocative.

Beyond her Calvin Klein contract, one of Eva’s other side projects is her line of linens, Vida by Eva Mendes. Vida is sold in Macy’s, and take a look at this bedding! To me, this stuff is totally fug. Like cheap stuff you would see in a college freshman’s dorm room. But Eva is all over it, sending out a press release that read in part: “Vida is about easy luxury — the colors, fabrics and textures that I live and love, brought to life in a stylish, comfortable and affordable way… I’m excited to partner to see my passion for design come to life.” Well, she got one thing right – this stuff is pretty affordable. Macy’s is slashing the prices at a steady clip, even offering 50% markdowns. Poor Eva. Next time expand the color palette. Maybe some greens and blues – people like those colors for their bedroom.

I find that to be true too except more with my hips. I have really big curvey hips and an office dress can look innocent on the rack but on me goes BADUNK A DUNK the second I put it on. *sigh* I can’t COMPLAIN but… even pants look stupid on me.

Hey, I’m down with therapy, as well. Nothing like sitting down with an objective listener. We all need to vent, sometimes.

I’ve never really had an opinion of Mendes, but after reading this, I can say that she seems like a cool lady.

  3. Scorpiogal says:

I’m one of those hourglass curvy ladies too…hips and chest. It can be fun, but it’s so true that what looks innocent on one woman is dangerously provocative on me. It’s hard to escape attention no matter what I wear.

  4. H says:

another curvy girl here. She’s right it is hard to dress. All those tops that are empire or have fabric that cross at the bust. I look like a porn star.

  5. icky says:

uhh… I have seen pics of her and in a movie or two..she isn’t too curvy – but she is too full of s*it. I’ll bet she isn’t even a size four..she’s just pandering to women and I resent that

    I went from 70 kilos to 50.
People do miss my curves but I sure didn’t. I love being able to do back flips again. My curves wernt natural, so it wasnt a pretty sight on me. I use to envy the curvy chicks who could get away with it. but I was a skinny kid, I had to live with that fact and lost all the bad weight. it was pure hell to do but honestly I thank God I got through it.

eva is more than welcomed to come over to my house. we have a no clothes needed policy.

    “party over here!”

At least she has taste enough to realize what is tacky. Looks like she’s turned her life around. I remember when she was drinking a lot. This is better.

  11. Blackwood says:

    I hear what she says.
I love little white dresses, but when I get to wear them it doesn’t look “innocent virgin” stuff, it looks like something from the wardrobe of a pornstar playing innocent virgin instead.
Which is both bad and amazing.
I love when I put the same dress as some of my skinny-type friends and it just looks different and we don’t look like we’ve got it at a 2×1 sale. Also the feeling that no matter how plain and boring a dress is, curves always make it look interesting and you don’t need any accessories to boost it up (although it’s a downhill for people who enjoy wearing them… I don’t)

Dark Cuban hair? Do Cuban’s have a special kind of hair? So dumb.

  13. I’m with icky on this one – I think it’s sad that we live in a society where that woman is considered curvy. She’s rail-thin and angular just like every other woman in Hollywood. And no, photoshopped boobs don’t count as curves. And hers aren’t that curvy in any case, photoshopped or not.

    ab,

I lost my weight in the span of 3 years. I took the long rout because i didnt want it to build back up, if I needed to lose I wanted it to be perminent. It was absolute hell! I felt like a junkie honestly. It was just a terrible experience for me. I did it all on my own too which is alot harder than if you have a group and you have support. But it was mostly staying motivated. So I literally surrounded myself with things that motivated me. Such as posters, videos of fit people. MUSIC MUSIC MUSIC was definately a booster. I picked only metal since that was the only form of music that really moved me. Like Disturbeds indestructible was a real motivator lol.

I should tell you too that the stretch marks DONT GO AWAY

I dont eat outside foods. Including resturant food. No junk food and no soda at all.

So it’s more of a eat to live rather than live to eat equation for me.

The gym was not where I went. it was all at home. I was so sick of signing up to a gym and paying so much but not getting anywhere with them. I just used my imagination and got creative. Now i crawl down my buildings stairwell and climb up skiping one stair. I jump on a tramplene and when teh whether is good I head out for a good walk…now I jog though hee hee.

But it was PURE HELL and seriously guys it isn’t for everybody. You have to really be commited to it if you really want to see any improvment. But GOD was it hell, tramatic even. I don’t ever want to go through what I did.

Again it took me three years and it was a difficult journey. But I did it and it IS possible. I also think genetics had something to do with it too.

Kaiser, it is soooo funny because I was thinking the same thing, word for word, while I was reading her comments. I was wearing a simple v-neck t-shirt the other day and I was leaning forward at the table talking to someone and I realized that my double-d’s were about to fall out of my shirt. I was mortified.

A few years ago I went shopping with a friend who wasn’t as “endowed” as I am and we were looking at sun dresses and I asked her what kind of bra would she wear and she, honest to god said, just don’t wear a bra. I about fell over. That is not an option for me.

I know this is a “grass is greener” subject but it has been a real problem for me. Something that would be tasteful on one woman would look slutty on me and that is definitely not my personality.

LMAO! Now that you mentioned it I have been laying off the bras alot more too. I just felt like they were so constricting.

  17. Just a Poster says:

I agree with Eva. Most of us women are built with curves.. and like me, a some lumps and bumps (working on those.. working on those) but if you are not built like a boy you are left out in the cold.

Many times I see looks I love, but they don’t translate well for a chubby brunette in real life.

But I did hear that shoulder pads are coming back.. I don’t know if this is good news or a damn curse for us to live through that trend again :/

  18. Eloise612 says:

    Viper,

what I would give to be able to go braless!!

I, too, struggle with weight loss and have felt like a junkie. I’m so inspired by your story. Congratulations!!!

  19. ab says:

    viper,

thank you for sharing ur exp, i know it takes forever, i exercise but dont diet and alas, it has to be two together! even tho it was tough for you, u reached ur goal, so alls well that ends well!

I’m a size 2 or 4 depending on the brand. I have a full c cup, tiny waist and a big round butt. I’m 23 and I have no cellulite, I look 100 times better then Eva. She isn’t curvy at all, she has full a cups maybe. She always wears pushup bras and wouldn’t know what an azz is if she bought one. Why does she always toot her horn? I mean, look I kno latinas think they invented curves but I’m Italian and every female in my family looks like me. She should address the “matter” of her face, well I applaud her for not resorting to surgery and just getting photoshopped 🙂
