Sean Spicer is a contestant on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ & no one’s happy about it

I made a pledge to myself and to all of you that I would never forget what these Deplorable people have done to America and the world. With each day that passes in this Trumpian hellscape, a long memory is needed – we actually need total recall of the fraud, the lies, the treason, the war crimes, the babies in cages. We need to remember the names of every white supremacist, every racist, every misogynist, every a–hole who helped Trump. Sean Spicer is one of those names – he was and is a petty liar, anti-Semite and fraud. He was Trump’s first press secretary and I will not forget what he did and the lies he told.

It seems like other people are willing to forget though. People like… ABC and Disney. Spicer was chosen for the new cast of Dancing with the Stars. Depending on how far he goes in the competition, he’ll walk away with anywhere between $125K to $295K. Spicer’s other DWTS castmates include: Mary Wilson, Karamo Brown, Hannah Brown (The Bachelorette), Christie Brinkley, James Ven Der Beek (!!), Ray Lewis (yikes) and Lamar Odom, amongst others. Spicer stands out like a sore thumb as a political guy, but let’s be real – DWTS has done this sh-t before, they’ve done their bit to help image-rehab some political or political-adjacent person.

Anyway, some people aren’t happy about this sh-t. People like… DWTS host Tom Bergeron, who actually made his feelings known in a social media post:

Dancing with the Stars has unveiled its celebrity competitors for season 28, but host Tom Bergeron isn’t pleased with one of the selections. Just hours after ABC announced the cast on Wednesday, Bergeron, 64, posted a lengthy message on Twitter, revealing that he met with the DWTS executive producer several months ago and tried to steer the show away from politics.

“Chief among them was my hope that DWTS, in its return following an unprecedented year-hiatus, would be a joyful respite from our exhausting political climate and free of inevitably decisive booking from ANY political affiliations,” Bergeron wrote, adding that he “left that lunch convinced we were in agreement. Subsequently (and rather obviously), a decision was made to, as we often say in Hollywood, ‘go in a different direction.’ It is the prerogative of the producers, in partnership with the network, to make whatever decisions they feel are in the best long-term interests of the franchise.”

“We can agree to disagree, as we do now, but ultimately it’s their call. I’ll leave it to them to answer any further questions about those decisions. For me, as host, I always gaze into the camera’s lens and imagine you on the other side, looking for a two hour escape from whatever life hassles you’ve been wrestling with,” he continued, joking that he’s always ready to supply “dad jokes.”

Bergeron echoed his feelings on Spicer, 47, while speaking to Sirius XM’s Entertainment Weekly Liveon Wednesday. Calling him a “political lightning rod,” Bergeron explained his “preference” was for Spicer to not have been cast. “Dancing, at its best, is an oasis, away from all the divisiveness and all the stuff we are wrestling with right now,” the host said. “And so, that was a call they made, and my job as host, to the best of my ability, is to be Switzerland for those two hours a week. For the other 166 hours a week, I am pretty clear where I stand politically.”

[From People]

Basically, Tom Bergeron doesn’t want to be blamed when this Spicer sh-t blows up in Disney’s face, and/or Dancing With the Stars turns into a g–damn MAGA rally. It’s clear that ABC brass were sufficiently warned, and it’s clear that they ignored those warnings for ratings and tapping into the lucrative “white supremacist morons who like dancing shows” demo.

Well, at least Sean Spicer didn’t pretty much get away with murder, ie Ray Lewis.

  2. BlueSky says:

Here is what so funny to me. Morons like him spend so much time acting as if there so anti Hollywood and what’s the first thing they do when they get kicked to the curb? Try their hand at being a Z list celebrity.

I’m not surprised though. I think most of these high level tv/movie executives are Trump supporters.

    • Mumbles says:

Yup. Cueing Sarah Sanders on Celebrity Big Brother in 5, 4, 3, 2….

      • Emilia says:

Unfortunately she got a far more lucrative job as it was just announced she’ll be a Fox News contributer starting in September. There are absolutely no consequences for these people and their ability to consistently “fall up” makes me sick.

  3. BearcatLawyer says:

Seems like they have a very loose definition of “star!”

Also, I cannot believe he is 47. Hatred, pathological lying, and defending Mango Voldemort really seem to age people.

    • Esmom says:

No kidding. If Sean Spicer is a star then I’m a Nobel laureate. JFC. He should be on a permanent blacklist. Shamed, not normalized. I could scream.

    • marjorie says:

47????!! No way. He looks a decade older than Scaramouchi (sp?) who is in his fifties.

    • whatWHAT? says:

47????!!!! I’m OLDER than that dude? not by much, but still. I would have guessed more like 55-60.

re: the whole “star” designation…I believe that MichaelK over at Dlisted calls it “dancing with the has-beens”. and, TBT, some of them are “never-was”.

      • Tate says:

I am a couple of year younger than spicer. I was shocked when I saw he was only 47. Creepy Miller is only in his early 30’s and Conway I believe is 50. Selling your soul definitely comes at a price.

      • Christin says:

And Sarah S is not yet 40. She just turned 37 (not 57, but 37).

Conway is 52. She looks older than any 50-yo I personally know who is not seriously ill or in a mugshot.

  4. Ariel says:

Since we can’t effect shame on the shameless (every neo Nazi ever in neo Nazi pres’ orbit) how do we effect abc bosses losing lots of money?

    • Birdix says:

I’m with you—makes me mad that this controversy could draw eyes and $ to the show and that the producers are likely fanning the flames for that reason.

    • Carol says:

I’m not clear as to why Spicer is seen as a white supremacist here? Is it because he defended Trump’s border policies and tried to defend Trump’s inability to call out the neo-nazi’s in Charlottesville? did he say anything else that leads you to believe he is a white supremacist?

I’m just wondering if Spicer defended white supremacy before he joined the administration. Did he turn because he fell in love with Trump and Trump’s “power” or did Trump just voiced what Spicer already believed. Just curious.

      • whatWHAT? says:

“Is it because he defended Trump’s border policies and tried to defend Trump’s inability to call out the neo-nazi’s in Charlottesville?”

well, those are pretty good reasons/indications, don’t you think?

I mean, have you ever heard of someone who is NOT a white supremacist try to defend white supremacy?…

and if he ISN’T one, then he sold his soul (defending one) to further his career and line his pockets. either way, he’s a bad person who doesn’t deserve to be in the spotlight.

      • Some chick says:

It doesn’t matter whether or not he personally believes it. He defended it, before everyone. He amplified and promoted it. That’s evil. Pure and simple. Being a mouthpiece for evil is in itself evil.

If he doesn’t actually believe it, then he’s an evil hypocrite.

  5. Jenns says:

    This is utterly…predictable.

As many of us have said all along, none of the people in the Trump administration, including Trump himself, will suffer any form of consequence. They will all be just fine and make tons of money. And if you have any reason to doubt, look no further than GW Bush and his basket of cronies.

  6. Citresse says:

Don’t worry- he won’t last long.

    • AmyB says:

Exactly! I predict he will be one of the first eliminations.

    • Deedee says:

So, if he’s terrible, should we vote him off? Or do we vote to keep letting him embarrass himself for weeks to come?

    • ByTheSea says:

No one should watch. Don’t watch just to vote him off, that justifies the gamble. Just. Don’t. Watch. Period. Make it the least watched season ever.

    • Montréalaise says:

That depends on how many MAGA supporters keep voting for him? Remember Bristol Palin – she was a terrible dancer, but she went really far in the show.

      • Some chick says:

And that horrible Duck girl! They court the controversy, make no mistake. I stopped watching when they had her on because I found her so annoying.

With any luck he’ll blow out a knee, like Bill Nye did, and then have no choice but to bail.

I really used to enjoy DWTS – there just isn’t enough dance on tv! But I’m over it.

  7. Kelly says:

The only possible thing that could make his time there bearable is if they make him wear a bunny costume for one of his performances.

  8. boredblond says:

Not totally surprising—‘ remember how the Emmy awards producers gave him a spot, evidently to show how lovable these lying hate-filled trumpites ‘really’ are. The only surprise is the show is still on; I thought it was done years ago.

  9. Eliza says:

I had completely wiped him from memory. How could I forget the bush lurking?? My first thought was that he was a Fox News Bro? I mean basically, but worse. Is there even a communications person anymore? Not that Sarah did anything.

Why would anyone want to see him dance? ABC really wanted some headlines for their cast. I mean no one actually wants to see him, on either side, so this is just to trigger Americans WTF-ness?

  10. Tate says:

These vile people are further normalized. There is nothing funny or cute about Spicer and what he did as press secretary.

  11. Jess says:

When people talk about Hollywood or the press being liberal I laugh – the powers that be care about nothing but making money. And this is just another example of that. I’m a casual DWTS watcher but I’m done with them now. Nobody who enabled Trump gets a pass or gets to move past their horrific deeds.

  12. ByTheSea says:

Don’t watch. Not just bitch about it on twitter or on blogs. Don’t watch. Disney is counting on outrage and rage watching (to vote him off first). Don’t justify their gamble.

  13. Lizzie says:

dennis the mennace grew up to be sean spicer. i sincerely hope he pulls his hamstring, rips his pants and his ity bitty baby dick falls out of his pants on live tv.

  14. holly hobby says:

I take cold comfort that he will be voted off early. Bristol stayed in longer because she was a “hot” girl to the MAGAts. Remember Tucker Carlson was on this show in the early years and he got kicked out pretty early.

Please don’t stick him with Cheryl Burke. She’s suffered enough!

  15. Skipper says:

Sometimes one is so blessed to miss out on seeing garbage like this.

  16. adastraperaspera says:

This decision is a great example of how media conglomerate executives are putting criminals in starring roles–constantly pushing boundaries of what’s acceptable. Basically forcing people like Spicer and Scaramucci on us to numb us and break down our value systems. I won’t watch it. I think the staff and other stars should refuse to work on the show until he’s removed.

  17. Ann says:

They still have time to fire him. And Ray Lewis. This is appalling and stupid. ABC/Disney had to have know this will result in boycotts. Are they trying to kill DWTS? Or are they THAT arrogant to think this is a good idea? F this situation all around. We are constantly being bombarded with MAGA BS and Disney just had to get in on it. It’s annoying, to say the least.

  18. Melbelle says:

For real, don’t watch this. There is a reason they’re taking this risk and it’s either to garner eyeballs and buzz OR it’s because they’re trying to rehab his image so they can put him on another TV show. Hello new GMA host! Don’t watch it. And stop eating at Chick-fil-A. End rant.

  19. Lowrider says:

Money and Fame. Morals and integrity mean zero.

Hollywood will overlook any depravity for money.

Once Trump is out of office, he will run back to Hollywood and Hollywood will embrace him.

  20. Liz version 700 says:

Ray Lewis and Sean (largest crowd ever) Spicer. Thank God I don’t watch tat show gag

  21. Shelley says:

No way is this dude only 47! Seriously when pictured side by side with trump they look to be about the same age. 😂
