Chance the Rapper moves his tour back so he can be there for his wife & daughters

Two weeks ago, Chance the Rapper, 26, joined the lineup of Dave Chappelle’s concert for Dayton, Ohio, a chance for the community to come together in the wake of the terrorist attack at the beginning of August (and to enjoy some fantastic music, too). Chance was gearing up to start touring in support of his second album, The Big Day, on Saturday. However, he announced on Instagram that he is pushing back his tour following the events of another big day, this one last week when his second daughter, Marli, was born. Chance and his wife of one year, Kirsten Corley, also have daughter Kensli, four. This is what he wrote and his Instagram photo accompanying it is above.

I thought it over for the past week and I’ve decided to push back my tour. This year has been one of the greatest of my life; Marriage, new baby, first album etc. But with it being so eventful it has also been very strenuous having to divide my time and energy between family and work. When Kensli was born, I went on tour 2 weeks later and missed some of the most important milestones in her life, but more importantly I was absent when her mother needed me the most. At this point as a husband and father of two I realize that I can’t make that mistake again. I need to be as helpful and available as possible to my wife in these early months of raising Kensli and Marli. I apologize because I know how many people were counting on seeing me soon, but I hope you’ll understand and forgive me in time. Tour kicks off Jan. 15th and you can still get tix or your refund if you are unavailable at chanceraps.com & a few of the shows are still being rescheduled as well so stay tuned. I love you guys AND LITERALLY CANT WAIT FOR U TO WITNESS THIS SHOW 🙏🏾🙏🏾 SIDENOTE: 9/28 CHICAGO AT UNITED CENTER IS STILL ON AS WELL AS “LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL FEST” “IHEART MUSIC FEST” & “MIAMI BEACH POP FEST”! ❤️

People notes that the tour’s start date has been pushed back to January 15, 2020, though several dates, including one in Chance’s hometown of Chicago, haven’t been rescheduled yet. Hopefully, they will be soon, and everyone who had purchased tickets will be able to make the rescheduled dates.

Good for Chance for deciding to push back his tour to focus on his family. They need him, and he needs them, too. I can’t imagine how difficult it would be to go on tour knowing that he would be missing Marli’s first milestones and that time to bond with her and Kensli and to be there for his wife too. Chance should be able to not worry about his music and his tour for a bit so that he can enjoy his time with his family. Congratulations to Chance, Kirsten, and Kensli, and welcome, Marli!

Thank you for setting a good example for fathers everywhere. It’s high time we normalized fathers taking time off. A supportive and present partner is the best defense against postpartum depression. We need this now, when suicide is the number one cause of death for women in the year after childbirth. Fathers need to know that it’s not only ok for them to take the time, but that it’s necessary.

I love this. He seems like such a nice guy.

His wife is SO beautiful, it’s ridiculous.

  3. Veronica says:

Honestly, I couldn’t name one of his songs but I love everything about this. Choosing to be present for your wife and kids, especially those first months where it’s all a fog, is so much. I wish them all the best.

  4. HAD says:

Minor note: Coloring Book was his first album. Big Day is his second

    • Celebitchy says:

Thanks! Fixed and appreciate how nicely you pointed that out 8)

      • olive says:

chance considers big day his first album – he considers coloring book to have been his third mixtape, so celebitchy was correct in first describing big day as his first album. i think he said since big day is the first album he’s sold right off the bat instead of being free (on streaming platforms) like coloring book was he considers it his debut album.

    • HAD says:

So cool! Thanks, Olive! I didn’t know any of that, so much appreciated for the info

  5. Joanna says:

He donated 1 million to the Chicago school system as well. Congratulations to the lovely family. I work for a bank and we have paternity leave, I think it’s great.

    • Esmom says:

Chance for Mayor! I seriously love him. That photo of him on the windowsill with his girls is precious.

Every company should offer paternity leave.

      • TQB says:

Seriously, I had to take a moment and just live in that picture. It is so beautiful. All of them will treasure that shot.

      • Melissa says:

Not just offer. Encourage, even require that it be taken. Even amongst companies who offer it, so many don’t take it or only take part because they fear they’ll be looked down upon or passed over for opportunities.

  6. Betsy says:

This guy seems like such a nice guy and when has missteps (did he say something offensive about gay people? I don’t remember anymore), he learns.

I’m really gonna be crushed if I learn something horrible about this guy.

Also that is one maddeningly attractive family and I want to eat those scrawny-pudgy baby legs.

    • Celebitchy says:

Right? You never hear a bad word about him.

      • Fanny says:

You never hear anything wrong about him, that is true.
But what I know him for are his comments pertaining to his ability to discard and disbelieve the accounts of the R Kelly victims, and how it was “easier” for him to do so because they were mostly black women.
Now, we all know that the time it took to have any sort of solid conviction against R kelly, and despite the videotaped pieces of evidence, are due to the race of the women he kept rooming and attacking.
I also believe, on his part, that it requires intelligence to be able to identify your own negative biases but, I must stay that, as a black woman, his words are always on the back of my mind.

    • Original T.C. says:

He apologized for supporting Kanye when he went on his ‘Trump has done great things for Black people’ bizarre tour. His apologies are actually sincere instead of the usual PR flack standard apology.

Lovely story, lovely story, lovely story. More of these please. XO XO

  8. Jerusha says:

I am not the demographic for his music, but I just really like Chance. He just seems like such a good person. Anytime I’ve seen him on a talk show he comes across as intelligent and involved. All the best to him and his beautiful family.

  9. MariaS says:

He first met his wife when he was 9 years old and posted photos of her at that age on Instagram, relaying that story. It was really sweet.

  10. TQB says:

Thanks for sharing this. I really needed it this morning. I’m glad he’s taking the time for his family and also that he’s making a big public show of it. Normalize involved fatherhood!! It’s cool to love your wife and babies!! xoxoxo

  11. tw says:

Wow, we need more of this! I can only imagine the machine that pushed against him but he stood up for his family. This and the Harry charity post are giving me faith today!

  12. HeyThere! says:

He is a great example for men. Family first, and it’s OKAY to be a loving father and husband above all things. Also, his wife is beautiful and giving me America Ferrera vibes in the family picture!

  13. Jensies says:

Great story, and his little daughter is adorable. He’s got strong genes, because wow is she is a mini-me of him!

  14. Lisa says:

Good example and kudos to him.

  15. Sophie says:

Smart man. Going from one child to two is WILD, no matter how much help you have.

  16. Fluffy Princess says:

Awww, this is such a nice story. I love, love that he called this out and is open about wanting to spend time with his family.

Like everyone, I think he is setting a great example, and one that needs to be set in this age of hyper-masculinity.

  17. Cali says:

Ummm, how were the tickets selling? I like and all but don’t know 1 song oh his and he’s the tour headliner? His daughter is his twin, very cute.
