This is the stupidest move I’ve ever heard of. First of all, MAGA types are NEVER going to watch SNL. They just aren’t, their minds are made up, and hiring one racist dude into a more liberal and (barely) diverse cast isn’t going to draw them in. Second, not bothering to vet the guy was incredibly stupid. And third, why would you hire someone who is going to cause friction and upset in the cast, on a show where cast chemistry REALLY matters?
I don’t know what was with the logic, Trump and thereby his followers are not fans of SNL. Trump gets red in the face tweeting about the show whether the episode is new or a re-run. It does not make much sense trying at appeal to the people who hate the show. I’m sure he will be appearing on Greg Gutfield real soon.
I hope SNL tanks after this ignorant stunt.

I knew something was off when they let Dan Crenshaw on the show. Lorne wanted to appease the old, conservative audience. Why approve the joke in the first place?
Someone on twitter said SNL is going for Madtv direction (which Gillis later confirmed he was that type). So they hired their version of Stephnie Weir, Bobby Lee, Will Sasso. So now Shane’s out they will have to look for another Will Sasso. Now Bowen Yang’s recruitment does not feel special anymore. It feels like affirmative action just like Shane’s hiring.
If this was Lorne’s goal, I’m
surprised he’ didn’t just bring back Chevy Chase or Dennis Miller (both who became major MAGAS in their old age. This is so disappointing considering how this once landmark show started.
