Hilarie Burton shares sped up videos of how her wedding dress was created

Hilarie Burton and Jeffrey Dean Morgan got married over the weekend! I follow both of them on Instagram and you get the sense that they’re madly in love and that they have a great life together in upstate New York. They live on a farm with different types of animals, several of which are rescues, and they have two children together, daughter George Virginia, 20 months, and son Augustus, nine. Plus they do local volunteer work and they co-own a candy store in their town! They are living the dream.

Hilary made the announcement on Instagram about their wedding (that post is above but I left out the caption) along with the detail that the press reported that they got married about five years ago and they never bothered to correct them. We did report in 2012 that they were maybe-engaged, and reviewing that post reminded me that there was some sketchiness as to how they got together. They’ve been together over ten years now though and seem really solid and happy. Plus they’re married! That was just a sweet story that we skipped as they’re one of those low-key celebrity couples. I wanted to talk about Hilarie’s wedding dress though. She shared these videos of how it was created and I found it so mesmerizing. Hilarie worked with designer Carol Hannah in New York City.

I never wanted a wedding dress. “I don’t want a white dress and I absolutely dont want a strapless dress! Then I met @carolhannahbridal . I’d come across her designs on one of those massive bridal sites, while I juggled my kids this summer. As I consulted with our outstanding stylist and all around genius advisor @jeanneyangstyle , I kept using Carol’s designs as points of reference. “Architectural. Asymmetrical. Not too girly.” Then one day the lightbulb went off and Jeanne just called Carol directly. I was nervous going into their salon. I’d tried wedding dresses on once before and it was a miserable experience. Pretentious. Pompous. But not this time. Carol and her whole team knew what I wanted without me even having to say it. She led me to this dress right away and from the moment I tried it in it was a no brainer. I had been wrong. I did want a white strapless dress. I wanted THIS one. I cannot thank that group of women enough for holding my hand and bearing with me. The craftsmanship was only trumped by the kindness. My last fitting was two days before the wedding. Jeanne and I met at their studio and that was the giddy moment where all the wedding festivities kicked off. Thank you @carolhannahbridal and @jeanneyangstyle . You heard exactly what I was saying, even if I didn’t have the right words. So grateful for this new family heirloom. Xoxoxox #weddinggown #carolhannah #carolhannahbride

First of all, that’s an absolutely beautiful gown. It fits her like a glove because she stood there for what must have been hours getting fitted. (I get impatient getting my hair done I don’t know if I could sit there for that long.) I adore the layered ruching at the bustline, the little buttons on the back and the fishtail skirt. The gold rope-like belt is such a nice touch too. Hilarie didn’t think she wanted a strapless white gown but that’s what she got and it turned out incredibly for her. I hear her on rejecting the snotty place. Who even shops at places like that? Be nice to me if you want my business.

I had a white strapless wedding gown! I love sleek, classic looks and so that’s what I chose. My marriage didn’t work out but I have no regrets and am glad we got to have that special day. Important details like these become memories which stay with you always. Congratulations to Hilarie and Jeffrey!

Oh wow Norman Reedus performed the ceremony with Jenson Ackles!

Congratulations to them! Gorgeous dress! I do love their story about living in upstate NY. They seem to have a charmed life outside of the celebrity glare.

It’s a nice dress. As she said it’s white and strapless so hardly breaking the mold, but well tailored makes a huge difference. The bustle type is not great but that’s a personal preference for how you like it. She looks very happy and that’s most important.

Personally I think the dress is lovely, but her hairstyle is not my cup of tea.

True love is marrying a man who shows up with that haircut on that shaped head.

    Congrats to them both

  4. Loretta says:

I love her since One Tree Hill. Beautiful couple. Congrats!

  5. Tiffany says:

On a superficial note, I think Hilarie is stunning as a brunette.

And I feel her on the wedding shoppes. Quite a few of my college friends got married and when I entered those places with them I was like, ‘Look here, you sell wedding dresses, you ain’t curing cancer. Slow your roll.’

  6. TeddyPicker says:

This looks like a beautiful wedding but I’m still broken that JDM dumped Mary Louise Parker to be with Hilarie. They were my couple goals in the mid-2000s

And didn’t the pregnancy with their oldest happen hella fast. Yeah, that felt like overlap.

    • lucy2 says:

Man, MLP doesn’t have good luck with men. Isn’t she the one Billy Crudup left while pregnant for Claire Danes?

Sketchy start aside, Hilarie and Jeffrey seem like the real deal, and like they have a wonderful life together. I’ve always liked her and thought she was gorgeous, and their wedding photos are lovely.

    • Leah says:

Oh, my! What’s up with MLP being cheated on by Billy Crudup (while pregnant) and then Jeffrey also leaving her for someone else in a possible second overlap? How awful!

I follow Hilarie on IG and Twitter and she’s a truly cool person. She’s really involved with her local community and various charities.
And her and Jeffrey have such a sweet little family. Their little girl is BEAUTIFUL. They do seem truly in love as a couple and a family and Im happy for them. Those photos they posted on IG and beautiful!

    • Kitty says:

She is truly a lovely person. I met her while volunteering for a children’s organization in Rhinebeck, NY. She worked along side everyone else.

      • JoJo says:

My brother lives in Rhinebeck. Not really in upstate NY – more like just beyond the Berkshires and in the Hudson Valley, but such a gorgeous little town. It’s really become sort of a celeb hotspot though – lots of rich people from NYC buying second homes in the area. Last few times I went, I came across Fareed Zakaria/CNN in town and then separately, Julianna Margulies climbing a hill with her fam and dog. 🙂

Is the designer Carol Hannah from Project Runway?

I loved the small boutique place where I got my dress, as I tried a big retailer shop where the customer service was awful and it felt like I was getting my oil changed with how the made me wait and treated me during the session (Ds bridal). At the boutique I was scared they were going to Pretty Woman me but I got a great girl who asked me what styles I liked what styles I didn’t and most importantly my budget. “I will not show you a dress you’ll fall in love with and tell you later it’s not in your budget “…I was like THANK YOU!!! It was such a great experience and also low key while still being so unique but never pompous. Don’t fear boutiques but the moment you feel you’re not being respected, leave…every bride deserves a wonderful wedding dress experience

    • lucy2 says:

After striking out at big chains, a friend of mine went to a boutique and got a dress worth well over $1000 for under $100, and it was really pretty. It was a sample they were trying to get rid of.

  10. Grant says:

She is so gorgeous as a brunette and the dress is breathtaking. I love her up-do.

I think I spotted Sophia Bush in one of those pics! I love that they’re still pals. Brooke + Peyton forever!!!

  11. sammiches says:

Is “George Virginia” a joke, or for real?

  12. Holly hobby says:

That is one fabulous dress. Congrats to all

  13. Amelie says:

You can see Sophia Bush in one of the pictures of Jeffrey Dean Morgan. I watched only a few seasons of One Tree Hill but makes me happy to see they are still close. 🙂 I wondered why Jensen Ackles was there and then I remembered Jeffrey Dean Morgan played the father of the two brothers on Supernatural. Maybe Jared Padalecki was there too? Basically a big WB reunion.

They always struck me as such a random couple (JDM is much older than Hilarie?) but they’re happy and still together so best of luck to them.

    • Marie says:

Jensen’s wife is also a OTH alum and they actually introduced Hilarie to JDM. Also, he and Reedus officiated the wedding.

  14. Miatagal says:

    He’s a gorgeous man!
