When Matt Lauer was fired from NBC in November 2017, Ann Curry made some vague comments initially – it was clear that was glad he was fired, but she wasn’t going to spill any tea. Looking back on everything, I think NBC probably forced her to sign a very strict non-disclosure agreement when she was pushed out. Ann was pushed out of the Today Show in 2012, and Lauer’s fingerprints were all over her firing. As I keep saying: he behaved like the king of NBC and women who were not “in favor” with the king were ordered away. Ann was not the first or the last, but she was the one we saw in real time as she struggled to stop what was happening to her. Now Us Weekly is trying to make it sound like Ann might speak out:
There’s no love lost between former Today cohosts Matt Lauer and Ann Curry. Curry, who left the morning show in 2012, reportedly at Lauer’s behest, tweeted in support of Lauer accuser Brooke Nevils earlier this month. And a source reveals in the new issue of Us Weekly that the news anchor might know more than she’s letting on to the public.
“Ann has maintained a dignified silence, but a lot of people confided in her years ago and still do to this day,” the source tells Us. “She knows more than most about the man Matt really is, and when she finally speaks out, it will destroy him.”
Curry, 62, previously revealed that she reported Lauer, 61, for sexual harassment on behalf of a colleague in 2012, which NBC execs deny. They also deny that they covered up Lauer’s alleged abuse. Megyn Kelly has spoken about Lauer’s alleged inappropriate workplace behavior too. In 2018, she told Us, “I know too much that others don’t,” and on October 14, she praised Curry and Today alum Meredith Vieira, who encouraged Nevils, 32, to report Lauer, for “sounding the alarm.”
As I said, I suspect that Ann has an ironclad NDA. I also suspect that she spoke off-the-record or as an unnamed source in Ronan Farrow’s book. And yes, I’ve always believed that Ann went the network executives and told them that Lauer was abusing his authority with the younger women around the office. And I believe that’s one of the major reasons why she was pushed out. It sucks. It’s awful. And I hope she does break the NDA and spills ALL. That doesn’t seem like her style though, so who knows.

What the hell is she waiting for? She has info that will give traumatized women some closure not to mention putting a rat bastard in prison where he belongs.
Perhaps she has no desire to wade back into that mess. She lost her job and in part, her reputation, at the hands of that man and that network. It is not victim’s responsibility to champion a cause on behalf of others.
There’s likely an NDA and she’d get sued, probably.
It may be too difficult for her to speak about publicly. Not everyone is comfortable or ready for that.
It may not be her story to tell, and those who confided in her may not want her going public.
But if she does decide to speak on any of it, I support her, and hope she takes them all down.
Easier said than done. NBC will throw the book at her and crush her financially and career-wise. Who wants to get thrown into that maelstrom again?
Can’t she also turn around and sue Matt? If anyone has cause, it’s her. I feel for her, I really do. Her and every other victim out there. Like you said, why would she want to get sucked back into something that was hell for her and caused her real pain, not to mention unknown trauma?
I think she also could help give a lot of his victims some sense of justice or fair play over their treatment and assault from him, treatment they had to just swallow. I am not saying it’s her responsibility, just that she has the biggest voice. If she is traumatized still, I would and will support any action she takes, even if it means doing nothing. Ann is also the one that probably has Matt shaking in his boots should she decide to spill. Maybe just the thought of her talking is enough to give him nightmares and ulcers. It would be nice to think he has to spend the rest of his life looking over his shoulder for more of his victims wanting a piece of him.
OT: When did a NDA become more powerful than the justice system? They can really override a judge’s order to answer the question?
I would put the onus on coming forward on those in power at NBC still–Andy Lack, Noah Oppenheim–not the woman they all colluded with Matt Lauer to drum off their network…
Kaiser is absolutely right that this criminal d*** Matt Lauer was treated as the absolute freaking KING of the entire network for years–tens of millions of dollars and worshipping at his feet for years and years. Lack, Oppenheim, the other criminal cartel at NBC need to GO DOWN NOW

Sing it from the rooftop, Ann!! I would be VERY interested in what she has to say. I think she knows a lot and every word that comes out of her mouth, I’d believe a 100%. She was treated poorly and like the other women deserves justice.
It would not surprise me if they put a clause in her NDA that if she speaks she will have to pay back the remainder of her contract, like they were doing her a favor by honoring paying her what she was owed.
I hope she does find a lawyer to just rip that apart because it reads like extortion.
I’ve been waiting for her to speak out for a while now. I wonder what the penalty of breaking her NDA would be. She’s a classy woman and may not want to be in the headlines again for this but it seems she also has a lot of info on people who have confided in her.

DESTROY HIM, ANN CURRY!!!! Seriously, she was a wonderful journalist and there was always something unspoken and awful about how NBC treated her. I wish she would break her silence and air all their dirty laundry and enjoy a huge career resurgence. (But only if she is comfortable doing/wants that… things being what they are, who knows what reception she would get. This world.)
I never liked Ann Curry’s reporting style, but I think she was treated so horribly by NBC and Matt Lauer. I hope she tells some reporter her NBC/Lauer stories even if it is anonymously.
I’m not a Megyn Kelly fan by any means, but she has stated publicly that NBC needs to let all of these women out of their NDA’s and finally let them speak, which I agree with. I didn’t realize that NBC conducted their own internal investigation into the abuse claims instead of outsourcing it to a third party like CBS and Fox News did.
Anyone else feel it that NDA should be immediately void if there is illegal/criminal activity they’re asking to cover up? Kind of like with a Therapist, they can’t divulge any info from sessions, but that’s void when it they learn the patient can/have caused harm to themselves or others?

An NDA is not valid if a person is testifying in court. The court supersedes the NDA. Also, an NDA may be considered unenforceable if it is being used to cover up illegal activities.
That would be nice, but the fight to end NDAs is real. They are supposed to be illegal in issues of monopsony in the restaurant industry, a monopoly created by companies that agree to keep wages, protections, and benefits down that dilute worker’s rights. NDAs should be revoked for criminal activity, but the NDAs prevent the criminal activity from sunlight. Network stars make a lot of money, and so they don’t garner the same sympathy from the public regardless of gender. We Celebitchies have sympathy as feminists, but these laws are in place to protect men in power, so it will take a man and his lawyers to tear it apart.
I’d love for Ann Curry to fight, and I would donate to a legal fund to help her do it. Alas, I doubt that she will. So many men simply do not believe these women, and it’s men in the halls of power that stop our fight in incremental ways that stop movements like MeToo as they approach the blockade of bullshit. Every minute of every single day.

If the Dems win the 2020 elections, they need to pass a whistleblower law which lets people out of their NDAs to testify in an ongoing investigation.

These women have worked for their careers then to experience this work environment and pushed out with a non compete clause in the contract so they can’t continue their careers elsewhere? Jesus they worked for their careers now they can’t work unless it’s in a hostile work environment like this? I wonder if deep down that’s what predators like lauer want, women ‘put in their place’ and only sex objects for him or they’re gone and not working at all. It hasn’t destroyed him because men see themselves as Matt Lauer and simply don’t believe it. A lot of women don’t, either. On The NY Times website, all of these women were talking about how they would never go to the hotel room of a colleague at night. I wouldn’t, either, but I’ve lost jobs for saying no to men, for hitting them when they touched me, for reporting the threat. I once was so traumatized by a finding that I was not sexually harassed that I had a nervous breakdown and didn’t return to the job after they told me; I couldn’t answer their phone calls. It was gaslighting from multiple jobs telling me that nothing happened as men groped me and told jokes about my appearance. I’m 51. Growing up poor taught me to fight, but I never thought I’d penetrate into the middle class because male opinions were too important. Until I worked with men who didn’t want to screw me, my career struggled.
I can’t help but wonder how awfully he treated her.She was an amazing journalist- ethically,compassionate,kind,thorough.When she became anchor she sort of lost her spark,her appeal.She behaved in a subdued manner.Now we know why.

Here’s the thing: yes, Curry needs to speak out no matter what at this point. She can not continue to be evasive and she seems to only put her neck out this much and not more. Just enough to make her look better but not enough to do the proper damage to a sick abusive man. I hope someone can help me on this: Years ago, during the Bush administration, horrific truths came out about abu ghraib. Forgive me if I’m spelling it incorrectly.
Anyway, the producer who wrote a book about it later and helped break the story basically had her life destroyed. No one wanted to verify the story and the Bush people shut it down. I believe 20/20 was the one who aired it. A lot of people got sunk and had to faux apologize as one does when they’re a fearful puppet who would rather keep their job. It was terrible.
There was a movie about it, I believe. If memory serves, which who knows because I’m tired, but Curry was not very helpful. I mean, very not helpful. I think she threw people under the bus. Very out for herself. I always get that particular vibe from her.
I read this in my 20s and it stuck with me. Saw it at a dollar store and was astounded at how corrupt it all was. Was more naive then. Wouldn’t be surprised now. Best buck I ever spent.
I love how it’s put out there, “if she does speak out, she will destroy him”. LOL! Let the destroying begin! I’m sure she’s contacted a lawyer and had her NDA scrutinized and then some. But with her tweeting support publicly, I think that’s her way of saying, “if you want to talk to me about what I know, come ahead, I’m waiting”. He’s being investigated as we speak, I sure hope criminal charges come forth, soon. I don’t know how they couldn’t. How many victims have to come forward and speak their truth before there’s justice for them? Ugh! So disheartening.
This is probably something she has to do carefully, but there has to be a way. I hope she speaks out.
