Duchess Meghan looked lovely in purple Aritzia for the One Young World summit

The Duchess of Sussex attends the Opening Ceremony of the One Young World Summit

The Duchess of Sussex stepped out last night at the Royal Albert Hall in London. She attended the opening ceremony for the One Young World Summit, a “global forum for young leaders brings together 2,000 young people from over 190 countries around the world to promote social impact.” Basically, teaching kids leadership skills and how to effect change in the world through social work, political work, etc, I would assume. This dovetails nicely with her role as Commonwealth Youth Ambassador and vice-president of the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust. The Commonwealth Trust is partnering with One Young World this year to host the summit. This was also Meghan’s first public appearance since the ITV documentary aired Sunday night in the UK.

For this appearance, Meghan repeated a vivid purple Aritzia dress, with long-sleeves and a tea-length skirt. Beautiful color. This is a repeat from her pregnancy – back then, she wore this dress with a red coat, and started a debate about whether purple and red go together. Last night, she paired the dress with navy heels, which reminds me that Meghan seems to feel differently than Kate about shoes: Kate will either go neutral (beige pumps) or she’ll try to “match” her dress to her shoes. Meghan rarely matches. She often goes for a “pop of color” with her shoes. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. I like navy-and-purple together, so this works. My only criticism is… something I’ve criticized Kate about many times: Meghan’s hair is down and it’s too “in her face.” These are formal events these duchesses are attending and no one wants to see all of this loose hair hanging down in their faces.

Oh, and Daily Mail reporter Rebecca English noted in her tweet-coverage that Meghan “was all smiles as she stepped out of her chauffeur-driven car.” Because it’s important to dog-whistle so all of the racists know that a biracial duchess has a car and driver, like literally every royal. It’s a f–king security issue.

I thought I didn’t like purple for clothes. I thought wrong.

  2. Chica71 says:

Love the color and hair. Glad she didn’t lose 30lbs in three weeks after baby too

The Daily Fail meltdown was funny.. some body language expert talking about how MM used her hair and hands to tell folks go always.

    • billypilgrim says:

I too am glad she didn’t lose her baby weight right away.

Her hair looks awful though she should have it up.

      • ShazBot says:

She’s right on schedule for the nightmareish postpartum hair loss, so it wouldn’t surprise me if she’s feeling self-conscious about it and isn’t sure what to do.

I know I felt like I was going bald, and never wanted to pull it back because it showed how thin it was getting around the hairline.

      • minx says:

Her hair looks messy, it’s a lot of hair for a petite person. The dress is pretty but the fit could be better.

      • Lady2Lazy says:

I agree, her hair should be placed in an up-do, loose chignon or something for formal affairs. Though, that being said, K wears those god awful sausage rolls practically everywhere and has not changed her hair style in more than a decade.
In regards to red and purple, I do wear that combination often as it looks well put together and most skin tones wear it well.

  3. Sierra says:

She looks gorgeous, lovely colour but I don’t like the fitting on this one..

    • Seraphina says:

I agree with all you said. Also, her hair is adding to making her look frumpy. It would have been nice to see her have it pulled back a bit. And as always, love her shoe game.

    • Esme says:

The dress looks a bit loose, and I’m not sure if I like the Navy shoes. Honestly I feel red shoes would have looked better… but purple is a difficult color to pair.
I still have major (major!) ankle envy for Meghan, she has such elegant legs.

    • (TheOG)@Jan90067 says:

I love the color of the dress (purple person here! 👋🏻), but this “lacks” a necklace or something to break up the solidness. Maybe even a different neckline would’ve worked better (like a drappy boatneck, or a V neck?)

Completely agree about her hair. Perhaps it’s the center part that makes it feel like curtains hanging and covering her face, perhaps a side part wouldn’t? Either way, I think she looks stunning when she pulls her hair back off her face; she’s got amazing bone structure, and a beautiful face.

    • MsIam says:

Should the dress have been skin tight? Show her underwear? What?

    • LadyMTL says:

I think I would have liked the dress more if it had been belted, so that the seam at the waist would have been hidden…but that’s just a peeve of mine. Otherwise I think she looks amazing, though yes I agree that the hair up (or at least back) would have been nicer.

      • Lady2Lazy says:

I wonder if had she chosen that dress in a petite size, it would have fit her better? Or possibly, she should have had the dress altered to have the dress fall properly in line with her upper torso. I don’t know how tall she is, but I must shop petites, which is hard to find, otherwise I have slacks that are 12” too long or sleeves that are too long and don’t fit in the shoulder area, which it’s costly to alter blouses in the shoulder area when you have spent $600 for it. Also, I have to remember that she has just given birth and her clothing is going to fit differently.

    • Amy Too says:

Agree. She is so gorgeous and this dress is beautiful and such a lovely color on her. I even love the shoes. But she could benefit so much from having things tailored for her. She’s rather petite so she’s going to need the bodices shortened up a bit on most things. She tends to have a bit of extra fabric that bunches up in the back or around her waist. I’ve noticed it on a few of her looks, the Lion King premiere dress was another one.

      • Lady2Lazy says:

I am sorry that I just posted a response identical to yours. I am sorry that I didn’t read all of the comments!

    • Erinn says:

I actually thought this fit her nicely haha. It is a flattering cut for her – perhaps a HINT larger than what would have been ‘perfect’ but overall it’s a really pretty silhouette.

I do think a yellow or cobalt shoe could have looked cool, though.

    • Becks1 says:

I think the dress fit her really well, but not when she is standing still or in photographs. In the arrival videos, it looks great. I think she struggles with that sometimes – she chooses an outfit that looks great in motion or video, but not in still photographs.

  4. Becks1 says:

She looked great! That dress is a great color on her and I’m glad we got to see it again.

I’m glad you mentioned that tweet, bc omg it was ridiculous. There was NO REASON to include that line about the chauffeur besides being a racist a-hole.

    • L4Frimaire says:

Rebecca English was getting a lot of dragging on twitter about the car mention. That was such a nasty side swipe. I bet everyone of those biased RRs would sell their mother and a kidney in exchange for a one on one meeting with Meghan. Thought Meg looked lovely, loved the purple with the navy shoes but would like a bit more jewelry, maybe a statement necklace. I want some Manolos but cant afford them : ( . Hair looked lovely but too much in her face. Would love to see her with a shorter length, just below shoulders. She’s in her element doing this, working for causes and interacting with the public. This is where her confidence shows and she shines.

    • GreenTurtle says:

@L4Frimaire, I’m glad they were dragging that woman on Twitter. Does anyone think a Duchess, married to the future king’s son, no less, shouldn’t have a driver? What, is she supposed to be driving herself to glamorous royal engagements in a Honda? GTFO. If she didn’t have a driver, there’d be snide, classist barbs about her middle class, “independent” American sensibilities. Meg really cannot win. Ever.

  5. Cidy says:

Shes super glowing, such a beautiful smile! That purple on her is amazing, both her and Kate rock those rich colors.

I’m not a huge fan of the dress but it might just be the fit, I think it probably just needed to be tailored a little better. It looks a little shapeless? And the shoes.

    Either way, she rocks it.

  6. MrsBanjo says:

Rebecca English is such a vile racist PoS.

I love that dress colour on Meghan. I enjoyed it with the red coat, too. It’s a combination I’ve seen a number of times and while it doesn’t always work, imo it did for her partly because of the cuts of the dress and coat together.

  7. Oh No says:

It was sweet and awkward when she stopped her friend from curtsying to her. But completely on brand so I loved it.

Like I’ve said before, usually the British tabloids operate in this little bubble, but that is now a thing of the past now. The poor souls didn’t even have time to prepare themselves for the sting that comes from being read to filth.

When you got a retired granny from Florida coming at you on Twitter for being trash, you know you dun’ goofed

    • Sarah says:

Where? When? I want to see the curtesy-stop! That’s so cute!

    • undergalaxy says:

Ahhhh that’s too cute. She’s* much too good for her trash family**, both blood and marriage.

*and Harry and beautiful baby obviously

**and Doria excepted because she’s so pure <3

    • Turtledove says:

“It was sweet and awkward when she stopped her friend from curtsying to her. But completely on brand so I loved it.”

Does anyone know why she stopped her from curtsying? Is it customary to curtsy to her due to her title? (I don’t know much about the etiquette around royalty and am just curious if she was “correcting ” her friend…or if she was was being, humble..I guess is the word, like “oh my goodness, don’t curtsy to me..we are dear friends?”

I think she looks beautiful in that shade. (I have yet to see her not look beautiful, tbh) It looked a little big on her, but she is SO petite, and that dress has a high neckline and low hemline…so maybe it was just a lot of fabric on her, particularly since she wore it while pregnant…the baby is no longer sharing some of the fabric. lol

  8. HK9 says:

Great to see her looking so well. Random thought…I wonder how both Harry & Will managed to marry women with such marvelous hair?? Other random thought…sometimes I wish a house would fall on Rebecca English al a the Wizard of Oz-such a vile woman.

    • undergalaxy says:

We’d all have great hair if we had constant free access to good hairdressers 😉

If you look up Kate’s hair in the early years, it’s her real hair, and it’s thinner and often messy.

      • L4Frimaire says:

Meghan, if you look at her teenage photos, has really thick curly hair, so a lot of it is her own hair. A lot of mixed girls have both volume and length. I think she probably adds additional length with clip ins. Kate has beautiful thick hair as well, but again, looks like she adds clip ins. Her sister does have rather thin hair so wonder about that. They both wear it too long for my taste ad wish they’d keep it off their face more.

    • Lisa says:

Extensions. No shade, every celeb wears them. Kate has naturally beautiful hair but she also uses clip ins to make it fuller and for some updos. You can see the tracks in some pictures if you zoom in close, it’s very well done though, obviously. I’m not sure how Meghan’s hair survives all this styling, honestly, it must be tough. She’s said before she uses Keratin treatments to make hair silky and straight and a lot of times her updos are just her hair, like the buns etc, or maybe a small clip in. This is definitely a lot of extensions though, to match her newly done treatment I would guess. You can see how shiny it is here vs some other days it’s a bit duller. The first time she came out (in the cream coat and green dress) for the engagement pics you can see she has 4x the hair she normally does. Also some times her hair is super long one day, much shorter the previous day. It must be so hard on her scalp/hair though. I have clip ins too but only wear them occasionally for big events and it stresses the hair, but for her every appearance is a big event.

Both these ladies definitely have Botox and some mid face fillers too. I can’t believe the palace issued that statement about Kate not having Botox. I have both these procedures too and it’s very obvious. It looks good and is well done, but it’s clear from the perspective of someone that is familiar with the procedures. Meghan got Botox in her forehead done before the Africa trip, a tiny tiny bit too much, you can see she doesn’t move her forehead at all and when she smiles she gets the lines across the nose, those are Botox bunny lines and she didn’t have them before. It will fade in a month or so though. Kate looks great with the injectables, too.

I don’t get why some (not people here) are so judgy about these enhancements, they are so standard for celebs and even peons like me. You’re in the public eye, and judged on every move, of course you’ll want to look your best.

      Meghan looks gorgeous here!

      • BayTampaBay says:

When I need extensions I will get them and want all the Botox, fillers and laser enhancements that I can afford. If I was a Royal Duchess, I would have a cosmetic dermatologist on speed-dial.

      • Sunshine says:

@LISA I agree with you potentially for extensions, but not botox. Botox does more damage to black or mixed women’s skin, than it does any good. There are certain facials that can stretch and smooth out skin, but the potential for keloids, make botox a huge risk.

      • bonobochick says:

I don’t think everyone is judge-y about ALL enhancements, per se, but there’s a racist stereotype that Black women or women with any sub-Saharan African heritage can’t grow long hair, so if they have long hair then it must be fake.

That’s what some folks take issue with and it happens more often than not when folks talk about Meghan’s hair that they start to snark on how it can’t possibly be real even if you can’t *see* the tracks.

      • val says:

Botox? I don’t get where you are seeing that from. Meghan has a lot of melanin in her, lol. She won’t need botox just yet like Kate! I don’t know about the extensions, but she always seemed to have a good head of hair, and possible growth from her pregnancy hormones. But as black folks tend to age VERY well, especially when we have lived a life of non smoking, good skin products and no obsessive sun exposure!

    • Becks1 says:

Yeah, I think they both have extensions. I’m not sure about Meghan honestly, but Kate definitely does. I don’t judge her for it, I just judge the narrative that’s pushed about her amazing trademark hair and the refusal from her stans to admit that she has extensions. I would too if I were in their positions (wear extensions.)

But, even without extensions, if you have access to the best hairdressers, the best products, etc – and you get your hair professionally done before public events – your hair is probably going to look pretty good too.

      • Dali says:

@becks, thats true but stans will always say noooo everything is natural , no matter whom they are stans of. So i don’t take them serious. Meghan looked gorgeous.

      • Lisa says:

True, they have the best of everything, hairdressers, etc. My hair still wouldn’t look that good, I don’t have that much of it, most people don’t, so I would do what they do. It’s tough though bc the more you style it and mess with it the worse it gets and the more you have to do it. Yet another reason I could never be a royal!

      • Joy says:

She doesn’t have extensions though even though it looks like it because of the different hair textures. During pregnancy and breast feeding, many women of colour don’t apply chemicals on their hair so there’s considerable of fresh growth. I always grow fresh shoulder length hair after every pregnancy. That seems to have happened to her. Lucky her that she didn’t suffer hair loss

      • Becks says:

Yes, both Kate and Meghan have hair extensions. It is pretty obvious and the norm with celebrities.
I think Meghan’s are too long with stringy ends. A haircut would make them look so much better!

    • Monicack says:

Actually in the early years Kate had beautiful, thick hair that was naturally wavy. After university she began to lean into those extreme blowouts. Those can be punishing. By the time of the wedding and early George years it was all wiglets, falls, extensions and sausage curls. The worst of that phase seems to be over at least. I think both duchesses have lovely hair. Go brunettes!

      • A says:

I’ve looked at a lot of pictures of Kate in her early years and honestly, she was gorgeous w/ a fuller face and her longer hair, lol. I think she had a great sense of style at the time, and it’s too bad she’s not always able to carry that over to her royal position.

  9. Beli says:

That’s a gorgeous colour on her and it pops even more here because it’s not competing with bright red (I quite liked the combo, but I liv5e this).

Her hair does look amazing, but I agree it would have been better to see more of her face!

She got plenty of support at the event too, which she seems to be a regular at, and there was a sweet moment where one of her friends started to curtsey and she asked for a hug instead.

  10. Silas says:

Rebecca English was trying to mock Meghan for complaining while having luxuries like a chauffeur. It’s rather backfired on her, though. As if having a chauffeur somehow cancels out being harassed.

    • Derrière says:

You would think the whole Diana thing would deter them from making such foolish comments but racist fools will remain fools and racist.

      • GreenTurtle says:

@Derriere, you’d think so, but honestly, these people are so wrapped up in their own hatred that they can’t see the logical, very straightforward parallels. Cognitive dissonance is a helluva drug.

  11. Sofia says:

I really do like the flow of the dress. I wanted to see more of it when she wore it back in Jan and am glad Meghan answered my wishes (10 months later but it’s cool Megs. We cool)

  12. Ladiabla says:

This woman is just super gorge. She’s blessed with one of those faces that people love to look at, man or woman. Her hubs must be over the moon every time he looks at her.

    • lucy2 says:

That’s a good way to put it – I like seeing her photos too, she always looks radiant and engaged and glowing. Which is remarkable considering how tough it’s been for her lately.

This organization sounds good, and like something she would be excited to be a part of.

  13. aquarius64 says:

I’m glad Meghan is back after the interview. It show she can bear her soul and still do her job. The cheers for her were wonderful and the bow and curtsy and the chauffeur show she wasn’t stripped of royal privileges after the interview. The RRs are salty their hit pieces didn’t work….again. BRF take note and have a care in handling the Sussexes from here on out.

  14. Pearlime says:

Beautiful hair. She could try a soft fringe – it didn’t look at great on Kate, but I think it would look lovely on Megs.
Not a fan of the shoes, but thats hardly important atm.

  15. TIFFANY says:

I….agree about the hair. And…I think its time for Meghan to consider a trim. It really does make a difference.

  16. P says:

Was she supposed to take the subway to her event? Be strong Meghan.

  17. Indiesr says:

    Stay strong!

  18. Originaltessa says:

It looks like a Kate dress, but I like this style better on Meghan. Kate is just too dang thin, it makes me uncomfortable sometimes. Hair’s a bit of a mess, but I don’t know, it could have been raining or windy. Beautiful overall.

    • Evil Owl says:

I’m guessing you weren’t uncomfortable when Meghan was just as thin as Kate pre-baby. Sorry for the snark but it’s a bit tiresome to see the body policing reserved just for Kate. They are both beautiful women and will be so at any weight.

      • Originaltessa says:

Kate’s thin. Baggy dresses accentuate that. The style looks better on Meghan, who is not as thin as Kate. Meghan looks worse in tight stuff. She has a thick torso. There, even Steven.

      • KK2 says:

@originaltessa you know, I actually think Kate looks better in looser fitting silhouettes that don’t accentuate how thin she is, but it certainly depends on the cut. Not sure this would work on her. This much solid bright purple is actually really hard to pull off but Meghan looks nice.

I would love to see Kate in looser fitting shift dresses, kind of 60s mod style. I think that would work so well on her- highlight her long legs and minimize the alarmingly thin torso.

  19. Wowsers says:

Love navy, love deep purple and love sack dresses, so this is right up my alley!
Another thing I love: since Meghan came on the scene with her long flowy hair, everyone has stopped insisting that women past the age of 30 (ahem, Kate Middleton) need to cut their hair to a chin length Bob to be considered “professional”

    • Becks1 says:

I don’t mind Kate’s hair in itself, even for a woman of her age LOL (Kate and I are the same age, I think her hair is fine), I just don’t like how she styles it for events a lot of time.

I still remember once she wore this amazing diamond necklace and her hair was down and completely hid the necklace (and it didn’t look good that night for some reason.)

Also, my favorite look of hers ever is the black velvet McQueen, and she had her hair down with that – I think it would have looked better pulled back, but the hair itself was fantastic.

But I just wish when she is wearing a statement necklace or a great dress she pulled her hair up so we could see it.

      • (TheOG)@Jan90067 says:

Here you go, this is the time you’re talking about (the Nizam necklace):

        http://www.thecourtjeweller.com/2016/06/kates-jewelry-box-nizam-of-hyderabad.html

And the ruby and diamond one, worn with the black velvet gown: https://katemiddletonstyle.org/millies-black-velvet-dress/

It really was criminal to hide those gorgeous pieces (the Nizam, esp.) Kate *has* gotten better at realizing when she should pull her hair off her face/put it up, I’ll give her that.

      • Becks1 says:

@TheOG – yes, those are the looks I’m talking about! The hair completely distracted and hid those fabulous necklaces (even though her hair looked amazing with the black velvet McQueen.)

      • Spicecake38 says:

Love both necklaces ,and think hair up/back with statement pieces is the general rule.OTOH,her hair looks so great in the one with the black velvet dress that I don’t think she should have done the necklace-hair plus that dress were enough, otherwise too much competing between fabrics, jewels, hair -pick one thing and make it stand out.

      • (TheOG)@Jan90067 says:

I think if Kate would’ve just pinned back the sides, off her face, her gorgeous hair could still stay down, but you’d’ve see the beautiful jewelry. And of course, that’s what we’re here for! DRESSES & JEWELS! 😊. (That black velvet is one of my favorites!)

    • Catherine says:

You do realize Kate is younger than Meghan, right?

      • Nic919 says:

There is five months difference between them. They are the same age. Only toddlers still count their age in months.

  20. undergalaxy says:

You know, her smiles are always genuine. Not clenched or forced. She looks happy to be there and happy to see people.

  21. Gingerbee says:

Meghan looks radiant, and I love the color combo of the dress and shoes. I am going to try that with my wardrobe. There is nothing wrong with the fit of the dress.

  22. Brooksie says:

I feel like she’s using her hair as a security blanket, she’s hiding behind it. She is so stunning, I hope she’s okay ♥️

    • ChillyWilly says:

Good observation…you may be right. I’m sure she is feeling all kinds of vulnerable with how she is being treated.

    • (TheOG)@Jan90067 says:

One of the “body language specialists” hired said it was a curtain to hide behind, and her hand in front of her was “warding off” others, as well as “showing off/flashing” her wedding rings. It truly makes you feel disgusted to read this drivel (and yes, I know, I read it).

    • swirlmamad says:

I thought the same (wearing her hair down/partly in her face as “protection” from the onslaught of craziness). She still looks lovely regardless, though.

  23. Lexa says:

I was just thinking Meghan would look amazing and super chic with a lob the other day, though it’s clear she loves it long. I think this amount of hair and the length might be slightly overwhelming her the way Kate’s hair used to in the height of the wiglet watch days. (I say this as someone who loves and has used extensions many times so there’s no shade here.) I loved her newlywed hair the most: https://ca.hellomagazine.com/fashion/02018071046130/meghan-markle-ireland-tour-best-looks/4

That color is completely gorgeous on her, though I would have loved to see a necklace or scarf to give it a little something extra.

    • (TheOG)@Jan90067 says:

Agreed. Love her hair that length. Doesn’t seem to “overwhelm” her. Perhaps she feels it compensates for a larger chest, due to breast-feeding? Who knows.

And I said the same thing about an accessory for the dress. Great minds… 😊

  24. ChillyWilly says:

Hmmm, I think red shoes would have been cuter but let’s face it, Meg is so gorgeous she could wear a flour sack and Crocs and still be the prettiest woman in the room. She’s just like, really pretty!

  25. Enn says:

I think every color is gorgeous on her, but the purple is really beautiful. I like the navy shoes too, keeping everything jewel toned.

I admit that the way she had to keep pushing her hair back while walking down the steps made me nervous that she was going to trip. Falling down the stairs is one of my weird fears.

  26. RoyalBlue says:

She looked lovely as she confidently strode in probably thinking ‘“and still I rise!”

William must be getting a heart attack

  27. Maria says:

She is gorgeous. My Duchess <3 but there are so many terrible comments on the sussexroyal instagram and it is so depressing to see the number, and how many people "like" them. People are so hateful and I don't understand why.

  28. CindyP says:

    Her hair is a mess

  29. Yamayo says:

Love the colour but the dress was a little Serena Joy for my taste…😁

  30. Jan says:

Nice colour. But to me it’s ALL about those blue suede shoes!

  31. starryfish29 says:

She looked gorgeous and like a total boss. I have to say that I love that she’s let her body do its thing post pregnancy and not obsessed about losing the baby weight, I wish more women felt confident doing this.

  32. skydome says:

This Rebecca English person is the worst. “Chauffer driven car”??!!!! Because all the other royals take the bus. ???

    • Spicecake38 says:

Yeah,I didn’t know of those comments from anywhere but here because I don’t do Twitter, etc.
I don’t even understand what that’s supposed to mean because how do other royals and or celebs arrive at such events-Heaven knows she can’t take a private jet 🙄

      • Becks1 says:

LOL, someone on twitter basically took that idea and made all these posts about it – “Anne arrives on horseback!” “Kate arrives by paddling a canoe!” It was hilarious.

    • Tourmaline says:

Right, like the other royals rock up to their appearances in an Uber

    • Mrs.Krabapple says:

And yet, if Meghan arrived in any other fashion, she would be criticized for taking jobs away from chauffeurs by making their work obsolete, and making the chauffeurs’ kids starve.

      • A says:

If she’d walked, or driven herself, they’d say she’s trying too hard and making the royals look too common.

  33. Loretta says:

    Meghan is simply stunning.

  34. Jessica says:

She looked lovely. However, you can see her spanx. Just saying.

  35. Rose says:

Oh … she looks a mess here .

  36. Mego says:

Thanks for naming the dog whistle Kaiser – every effort exposing the micro aggressions is good.

  37. Inthenow says:

The white markles have been suspiciously quiet in all this drama with Meghan and Harry. I wonder if Scamantha and the Toms are happy about all of this especially with Meghan being so visibly upset and shaken??

    • Nic919 says:

Tom is a potential party in the law suit about the letters and so he was probably warned to stay quiet. The press is likely also staying away from the rest of the Markles while there is ongoing litigation.

      • aquarius64 says:

Which means the Skid Markles are not getting paid because they are now liabilities to them to the press. I still think the media and the BRF are setting these vampires up to take the fall for the attacks. Dollar bet the press will ” discover” Dad fakes the heart attack and other Markle lies and the press was bamboozled.

  38. Jen says:

I think she needs a haircut. She has beautiful hair but it is longer than before and I thought she looked fresher with a couple less inches.

I like the dress and especially the color.

    • RedRoyal says:

      Worry about your own hair.

    • Erinn says:

I will never understand why so many women want other women to cut their hair. Clearly she wants long hair – if she didn’t she would cut it. Same goes for Kate. There seems to be a weird obsession that everyone should have the same shoulder lengthed style.

      • Lady D says:

Me neither, Erinn. This insistence from women that anyone over 35 must have shorter hair baffles me too. I may be biased because my hair is long, but it took over two flipping decades to reach this length. I’ll cut it when I want to and not before.

  39. chitowngal says:

I think the fit could be better, but I like it overall. I guess she was supposed to take an Uber to the event rather than be driven there? I see you, Daily Mail.

  40. I caught Rebecca English’s comment on Twitter. Did she really think that Meghan was going to take BritRail from Windsor and then hop on the tube to get to the event? Come on.

  41. Valiantly Varnished says:

She looked beautiful. And judging from what everyone else wore it wasn’t a formal event. More like cocktail attire/semi-formal.

  42. severine says:

I’m sorry – I think she looks like a hot mess in this dress. Ill-fitting (read: wrinkled etc.) and hair looks like she forgot to use product in it. Shoes completely wrong for the dress.

    • Beachy says:

No need to apologize for your opinion. Love the color- do not like the dress. Her hair is a mess.

    • Gingerbee says:

@Severine, where is the dress wrinkled, because I cannot see it. Not a dam thing is wrong with the dress, and her hair is perfect.

    • bonobochick says:

As a biracial woman, trust her hair has product in it.

  43. Lulu says:

I’m always the odd man out about Kate and Meghan fashion. I think she looks amazing here, simply stunning. I love her hair also as this was an after 5 event but not really formal.

  44. MeghanNotMarkle says:

This dress would have benefitted from some serious accessorizing and a nice updo. But I like the color on her. I look like a DV victim in any kind of purple clothes or make up. The color of my skin just looks bruised next to it.

  45. shells_bells says:

I love this color on her and it’s nice with the navy shoes. Red or green would have been a nice pop too.
I also like her hair down.

  46. Annehj says:

I would never think to wear navy shoes with purple, but it works. This is one of her best looks ever! I’m wondering about her wearing maternity clothes — she also wore a J.Crew maternity b&w skirt a couple weeks ago. Is she pregnant again? For the record, I do not think she looks it AT ALL, but who wears maternity when they’re not?

    • Devon says:

She looks like she is still losing the baby weight, no judgment – she looks amazing.. It’s not unusual to wear maternity clothes while still losing the weight. And for Meghan who gets judged if she wears anything new, unlike Kate, doing repeats makes sense.

    • swirlmamad says:

I think some of the clothes she wore when pregnant were not actually maternity, but clothing that had lots of give so they would accommodate her growing belly, and now they can be adjusted/taken in to accommodate her figure as she loses the weight. I don’t think she’s pregnant and if had to guess, they’d wait till Archie is a year or so before #2. They say it takes almost a year for your body to fully heal from pregnancy and childbirth and she seems like she takes her health very seriously. It’s also not the easiest time in their life now to go through a second pregnancy (understatement, I know).

  47. Mtec says:

Reading some of the comments and smh… How does she “look a mess”? She’s wearing sophisticated shoes with a great colour for an evening event, a beautiful, simple, elegant/professionally looking dress, that does fit her btw, her hair is silky, shiny, with styled waves and barely one out of place—I agree it would have been better pulled back from her face, but that does not a “mess” make.

I think the overall look is stunning.

    • Devon says:

Unfortunately, the psychotic and racist Meghan trolls won’t even let us have one place on the internet that isn’t infested with their nonsense.

      • GreenTurtle says:

People can love Meg and not her outfit, though saying she looks like a mess feels mean. She’s hardly untidy. I like this look, but think some of her past dresses have been real clunkers.

  48. Ye says:

Finally a pretty dress on her. And she ruins it with that centre part, it looks like a joke.

  49. BC says:

She is beautiful and looks gorgeous. I love her hair, i wish i had such long hair! Shes putting on a brave face and i suppose it helps to be amongst friends but she seems wounded and not half the joyful Meghan we saw during their dating days. I pray for some justice in this racist world. Its not fair for anyone to go through the racist, public bullying theyve put her through. I pray for a brighter day for them.
I loved the curtsy video. She is so down to earth. The queen is somewhere seething lol

  50. mk says:

What? No comment about not accepting a curtsy when she arrived on stage? I love that Meghan isn’t into being curtsied, that her approach to another human is as an equal.

  51. TheOriginalMia says:

The color is lovely. I liked the red with it and I like the navy. Nice way to switch things up. Her hair is gorgeous. I don’t have a problem with it. It is what it is. I gave up on commenting about hair with Kate. It’s just the way it is with both of them.

  52. Penguin says:

I say red and purple did go, and would have loved to see some red heels. This colour is a winner on her. The hair is swamping her though, I want to see more of her beautiful face, which is overpowered by the curtain of hair

  53. Lily says:

Duchess Meghan looked stunning in that purple. She has been rocking those beautiful jewel tones lately!

  54. MsIam says:

I like the dress, very elegant. I think Meghan favors solid colors over prints, although we did see more print dresses in SA. And so much for all the folks who screeched about “the cost of clothes she’ll never wear again!”.

  55. Veronica S. says:

Hmm, I love the color and idea of the dress, but perhaps it needed taken in more at the waist? Hair up. Use a statement necklace to break up the color. The navy is aggressively fine but not really working for me at the end of the day – a metallic shoe would’ve perked up the look more, and if that’s too bold, use a cognac.

    • Mtec says:

Not saying you’re doing this @Veronica S. But… that’s just her waist. She doesn’t have a defined waist. Many women don’t. I feel like a lot of people who criticize Meghan for her clothes “not fitting” or not being tailored correctly cant get over the fact that not everyone’s waist goes “in”, and it’s perfectly fine to have a more rectangular, “wider” shape.

I’ve gotten the feeling from some commenters before that they’re like weirdly, irrationally mad at Meghan for not trying to make her waist look smaller. Like during the SA tour when she wore wider waist belts and people seemed mad/offended that she dared to wear something that they perceived made her look wider. Like, why is that such a problem? Not everyone wants or can have an hourglass shape.

Her clothes fit just fine to her body, no part of that dress is oversized on her.

      • Penguin says:

Actually that’s not quite true. It’s just her natural waist is really high up on her torso. So the waist on her dress hits her on her actual hips.

I have the same problem (though sadly not as thin as her) it makes dresses really hard to find that fit properly.

What does annoy me is that the bespoke items she’s had don’t always cater for it, as any decent seamstress would be able to tailor for it

  56. Lowrider says:

The extension could use a trim.

  57. N says:

This is also something she was involved in pre Harry and that’s nice to see her continue.

  58. 2lazy4username says:

The color is GORGEOUS, but she looks like she’s drowning in hair and fabric.

  59. JanetFerber says:

She looks fabulous. And great shoes, too. Clothes just pop when she’s wearing them.

  60. A says:

I’m not going to complain about the dress not fitting. She wore it when she was still pregnant, so of course it’s a bit off in size. It’s not custom or a bespoke garment, since it’s from Aritzia, and it’s not always easy to tailor off-the-rack clothes like that. It can be done, obviously, but considering she might get pregnant again and her body is still going through the changes of all of that, it makes sense that she’s not shelling out the $$$ to get it tailored. GOOD tailoring of that type isn’t cheap in the UK.

I’m going to give her kudos instead for rewearing a maternity dress and having the forethought to have purchased something that would serve her well after her pregnancy as well. Considering it’s from Aritizia, it’s probably quite affordable in comparison to other garments in her wardrobe. And she looks marvelous in it. That colour is gorgeous. I want to get this dress for myself, tbh, since I love Aritizia lol!

  61. Bethany says:

I love the purple of her dress. It really pops and she looks beautiful in it. However, I agree with the above comments about her hair. I don’t know how she can stand it hanging in her face. I would think if she has to constantly be pulling it away from her face, she should do something about it…either cut it, tie it back or do an updo. She’s too lovely to have all of that covering her face. It’s distracting.

  62. Marigold says:

About the dig at her for having a chauffeur:

I’m an American. Our family has been on two tours of diplomatic service where armored vehicles and drivers were necessary. As someone who was raised in a rural, blue-collar way, the first time we had to live out that role, it was excruciatingly uncomfortable for me. Having a driver. Having security. Having any kind of “domestic help.” I wasn’t used to it, and learning how to work with people who work for me in such a personal way without feeling as though I was devaluing them or raising myself above them–that was a learning period.

I said all that because it’s the first thing I was able to relate to when Meghan first married Harry and there was an incident where she–gasp–closed her own door on the car. It’s called an ingrained habit, but there was no forgiveness. They seriously behaved in the British press as though she’d thrown mud on a national symbol or something. How very American. How very tacky. How very ill-bred. She shut her own door. It isn’t done!

It was awful. I remember not knowing what to do the first time I had a driver. I didn’t know if talking to him would make him uncomfortable, but I didn’t want to ignore him or pretend he wasn’t there. I didn’t like sitting in the seat behind him instead of sitting next to him like an equal. I didn’t like having him open the door for me, but it was armored and heavy, so I had to let him.

Anyway…she made ONE mistake. I made about a billion and no one was ever even watching me. I was never anyone but a lady married to a government worker bee. She’s a duchess married to one of the most famous royals on the earth. They couldn’t cut her some slack about shutting her own car door. Now, they’re trying to dig at her for smiling and getting out of that driver’s car with a smile on her face.

So is she trailer trash who didn’t know how to act with a driver or is she an elitist who thinks she’s better than her driver? You would THINK the press couldn’t have it both ways, but man they’re trying, aren’t they.

This poor woman is just damned if she does and damned if she doesn’t.

She looked gorgeous. I don’t even like purple, but she owned that dress.

  63. Skittlesandkittens says:

Love the dress on her but she added way too many extensions into her hair and it’s weighing her down/distracting.
