Stephen Miller’s 2016 emails reveal his white supremacist & racist beliefs

United States President Donald J. Trump participates in a roundtable discussion on border security and safe communities

Today is Day 1 of the public testimony/hearings for the impeachment inquiry of Donald Trump. All of the networks and cable news stations will be televising the hearings live. Two men will be testifying today: “Bill Taylor, the top diplomat in the U.S. embassy in Ukraine, and George Kent, the deputy assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian Affairs.” The White House is currently an active Benny Hill sketch, but they’re going to try to do a “rapid response” to everything coming out in the public hearings. I expect the rapid response to be Donald Bigly tweeting “WITCH HUNT” and “LIDDLE” every five minutes. We’ll see. I plan on watching the afternoon part of the hearings at the gym! And we’ll probably have some coverage tomorrow. I mean, we know a lot of this already. But it will still be good to see it live in televised impeachment hearings.

Something else we already knew? Stephen Miller is a white supremacist. We’ve known that for years now. Miller is the architect of the American concentration camps at the border. He is the architect of the “whites only” immigration policies and travel bans. But now the Southern Poverty Law Center has gotten their hands on Miller’s emails and guess what? He’s a white supremacist. You can read the first in what SPLC says will be a series here.

In the run-up to the 2016 election, White House senior policy adviser Stephen Miller promoted white nationalist literature, pushed racist immigration stories and obsessed over the loss of Confederate symbols after Dylann Roof’s murderous rampage, according to leaked emails reviewed by Hatewatch.

The emails, which Miller sent to the conservative website Breitbart News in 2015 and 2016, showcase the extremist, anti-immigrant ideology that undergirds the policies he has helped create as an architect of Donald Trump’s presidency. These policies include reportedly setting arrest quotas for undocumented immigrants, an executive order effectively banning immigration from five Muslim-majority countries and a policy of family separation at refugee resettlement facilities that the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Inspector General said is causing “intense trauma” in children.

In this, the first of what will be a series about those emails, Hatewatch exposes the racist source material that has influenced Miller’s visions of policy. That source material, as laid out in his emails to Breitbart, includes white nationalist websites, a “white genocide”-themed novel in which Indian men rape white women, xenophobic conspiracy theories and eugenics-era immigration laws that Adolf Hitler lauded in “Mein Kampf.”

Hatewatch reviewed more than 900 previously private emails Miller sent to Breitbart editors from March 4, 2015, to June 27, 2016. Miller does not converse along a wide range of topics in the emails. His focus is strikingly narrow – more than 80 percent of the emails Hatewatch reviewed relate to or appear on threads relating to the subjects of race or immigration. Hatewatch made multiple attempts to reach the White House for a comment from Miller about the content of his emails but did not receive any reply.

Miller’s perspective on race and immigration across the emails is repetitious. When discussing crime, which he does scores of times, Miller focuses on offenses committed by nonwhites. On immigration, he touches solely on the perspective of severely limiting or ending nonwhite immigration to the United States. Hatewatch was unable to find any examples of Miller writing sympathetically or even in neutral tones about any person who is nonwhite or foreign-born.

[From SPLC]

There were people joking about “if you can’t believe what Stephen Miller said in emails, you should hear what he says in public.” But truly, one of the minor talking points of the GOP was that, officially, Stephen Miller is NOT a white supremacist, he’s just a guy who cares a lot about immigration. No. Stephen Miller is not only a white supremacist, THAT’S WHY HE WAS HIRED. That’s the whole reason WHY he’s working in the Trump All-White House.

And sadly I just read in the news that America let in ZERO refugees last month. The first time in forever. I’m sickened.

    • Rapunzel says:

      Disgusting.

    • Tiffany :) says:

      That’s truly awful.

    • Murekatete says:

Agreed. I work in Rwanda and Tanzania with refugees who would have been on that list. It’s difficult to convey the need for some of them to be resettled to other Americans. You can’t really understand this until you’ve been in refugee camps. It is absolutely killing me, and I have to look at people and tell them there is probably no chance in the next few years that they will be resettled to the U.S., at least.

      • Bree says:

Take care of yourself too. I work with asylum seekers in Europe (mostly from the ME) and it is heartbreaking here too. So many healthy dreams broken because of hate.

    • Megan says:

Approved refugees who were awaiting travel dates were sent text messages letting them know their cases were on hold. Trump’s cruelty knows no limits.

  2. minx says:

He is the face of evil and hate.

    • Esmom says:

Yes, and I don’t think we needed his e-mails to tell us that. Still, I am sort of shocked at how open he is. I’m truly sickened anew.

    • Susannah says:

Also what evil and hate can do, not just to your soul, but your body too. He’s only 34!

      • Raina says:

That’s the kind of ugly you earn. I believe in reincarnation. I hope he enjoys himself next time around.

    • Aims says:

It is unimaginable to me that we can have hate in the white house. This is an outrage. This isn’t my country and this isn’t my government. It is disgusting and I’m furious.

    • Murekatete says:

His soul is truly written on his face, just like his boss’s.

    • Deehunny says:

He is also the face of a man with too much forehead

  3. Teebee says:

In what other era, in what other Whitehouse would a person like this be allowed to stand!? Not only stand, but remain, protected and inscrutable!?

He hides in the open. He’s been mocked and called out in the media, on occasion. But in this clown car administration with a revolving door of seasoned vets and bumbling imbeciles, Miller remains, intact and employed.

Of all the things and people Trump has partnered with, that Miller hasn’t been his biggest liability and hasn’t contributed to his downfall is one of the saddest aspects of his whole presidency.

    • Susannah says:

I agree. I’m so sick of hearing about all of these horrible actions coming from Trump, Miller, Pompeo, Mulvaney, Ivanka, Jared, etc. and NOTHING is done about it. The GOP is corrupt and a Trump cult, and the press just moves on to the next outrageous story from this White House and as a public, most of us are just seem numb to the daily scandals.
You need to have people with some moral compass, a sense of right and wrong and a modicum of shame to make our government work and all of those people left the Republican party decades ago.

    • Tourmaline says:

But he was specifically selected to work for Trump solely BECAUSE of these beliefs. The Hatewatch article about his emails clearly points out exactly how his beliefs as laid out in the emails have each been neatly turned into official U.S. policy.

The only chance for getting Trump out of office is one year from now, the election. Because sadly even if he is impeached by the House, he will never be removed from office due to the Republican members of the current Senate.

  4. DS9 says:

He looks like the love child of Himmler and Heydrich

    • Lauren says:

And yet he’s Jewish, with ancestors who fled Russia because of the pogroms. How can he know that and still do what he does?

      • PlayItAgain says:

        He’s f*cking nuts.

      • DS9 says:

Because being Jewish doesn’t preclude you from hating brown people.

Hitler hated Jews but didn’t seem to hate Muslims.

And the state of Israel treats Palestinians like trash.

      • pottymouth pup says:

his family has publicly disavowed him and his views

the irony is that all of those white supremacists he’s empowering will always view him as “a Jew” even if he were to convert to Christianity, he would not be considered white to the very Nazis/White Supremacists he wants to be accepted by

also, just to be clear the actions of the state of Israel should not be conflated with Jews/Judaism/being Jewish. That said, I’m disgusted by the (thankfully) few of the older generation of my family that are hysterical knee-jerk Trumpers “because he’s the one protecting us Jews in this country” (if I believed in Hell, I’d think there’s a very special circle in it for them)

      • DS9 says:

That’s exactly why I deliberately used “state of Israel”.

      • DS9 says:

Also, racists/bigots have always prioritized their hate and used certain people and policies as it benefited them. Nazis were cool-ish with Ernest Rohm for a while but simultaneously targeted gay culture in Berlin. Then they killed him and ramped up their homophobic rhetoric.

The first wave of the KKK didn’t care about Catholics. The third wave certainly did.

And Jared Kutcher is Jewish. Ivanka has converted. White Nationalists will worry about that later, after they’ve used those idiots for their own gain.

      • pottymouth pup says:

@DS9 It’s amazing how many Catholics have nooooo idea what the KKK and the RW evangelical movement thinks of papists. My first week on campus (went to college in the bible belt), all I heard was folks complaining about all those “damned Catholic masses” at the university’s “non-denominational” chapel

As for the Kushners, I would not be surprised if Ivanka jettisoned her husband and recanted her conversion if she thought it would help her.

  5. Rapunzel says:

And this mofo is only 34. Yes, thirty. four. 34! Proof xenophobia, racism and hate are aging af.

  6. Addie says:

The hate he gives is aging him, he looks like a senior citizen! I’m not surprised by any of this and I’m waiting to see how much it matter to the people who can correct this!

  7. J ferber says:

Hopefully the schmuck will be fired for Something (certainly not his vile politics, which are an asset to his fuhrer).

  8. grabbyhands says:

They can release every bit of it and it won’t make one shred of difference – in fact, it will only make the base love him more. This is exactly why people love 45 and his horrible little cabal, even when they’re getting fucked over by them – no matter what, they all still hate the same people and that is a hill they are all willing to die on.

  9. Jerusha says:

It says something about the odiousness of stephen miller that a former editor of Breitbart would leak the emails to Hatewatch. Shitler’s little Goebbels with less hair.

    • Rapunzel says:

Right? Like when the editor of Breitbart is all. “You’ve gone too far, man” that is a sign you need to reevaluate your life choices.

      • amayson1977 says:

She got hung out to dry as a scapegoat by Breitbart and turned on them. She now claims to be a reformed alt-right princess, and since she left the “movement” at only 23, she may well be telling the truth. It’s an interesting story in and of itself, give Katie McHugh a Google.

  10. Caty Page says:

I don’t understand how someone so traditionally unattractive can hop on the eugenics train. Clearly inbreeding did him no favors and I wouldn’t wish being born with that face on my worst enemy.

  11. Flamingo says:

The whole bunch of them just make me sick to my stomach.
I’m going to share a somewhat related story about the nastiness of Trump supporters. I was in South Florida for work last week and all cars were stopped at an intersection as a small, like four foot, alligator was crossing the road. Everyone was waiting patiently as the alligator was taking its sweet time. Then some jerk in a F250 decided to aim at it and run it over. Any guesses on what was covered the rear window of his truck? Trump 2020! I’m no fan of alligators, in fact I am terrified of them, but the blatant disregard for life (human or otherwise) that seems to run deep with Trump supporters is chilling.

    • Jerusha says:

Disgusting. And I bet if you found his email or FB it would be festooned with Bible quotes or Christian symbols. I don’t ever display stickers with my candidates on my car because I’m afraid it would be vandalized by hateful trumpanzees.

      • Joanna says:

@jerusha, yes! I so want a tuck frumpy sticker but I’m afraid I will get into arguments displaying it.

    • Tiffany :) says:

      What a terrible person!

  12. Angela82 says:

He is a self hating Jewish man. He can go f*ck himself.

  13. Christin says:

I wish someone would find a sneaky way to do a 23-and-Me type DNA test on him. And then if only the publicized results would show some lineage he seems to despise so much.

Not that it would likely affect him, since it’s hard to shame the shameless.

    • Jensies says:

I mean, he’s known to be Jewish, descended from folks that fled pogroms, so I doubt anything in a DNA test could surprise him or change his views, unless he truly does come up as 100% lizard, as I suspect.

  14. DenG says:

Well, if I were to select a personification of supreme whiteness, this Miller specimen looks reeeaallll gooood.

  15. Beech says:

Look at his smile. Imagine the creaking, crackling and groaning at the attempt to smile.

    • Raina says:

I so want for these kind of people to be punished this life…jail, disgrace, some hit of conscious.
But, if not, I’ll settle for eventually.
I think the absolute worst thing is to become aware of what you’ve done and live with it until you feel exactly like what you made others feel like.
      Maybe then.

  16. J ferber says:

Grabbyhands, so true and such a freaking tragedy for this country.

  17. Suz says:

He is exactly what he looks like: an empty human devoid of anything good.

  18. LRob says:

I don’t get the belated surprise about this dangerous man. Even Miller’s own family has shouted from the rooftops for years about how racist and abominable his beliefs and influence are. What the nation has to come to terms with is that we placed a known white supremacist in such a position of power and whether we are ready to accept that mistake and change course before its too late for our democracy..

  19. He is bad news alright. Ugh. Ugh. Ugh. Hang on though, looks like we may get Trump’s tax returns, next up bank records and his family advisors too. Don’t care what anyone else says, today was a win for us. Hold on and don’t stop please. We can, and will, do this!

  20. MaryBeary100 says:

Dude is a straight up Nazi, no if’s ands or but’s. Doesn’t matter if he was born Jewish. Trump is pliable and Miller is an evil little mouse just whispering in his ear. Google Miller and read about what he was like in high school. I read about him after the election and the guy is bad news. And he is still in the White House 3 years later….
