The Sussexes & Cambridges all made private visits to the Shout offices, just FYI

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attend volunteer celebration

Here are more photos of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at their Shout event on Tuesday. I still think Kate’s pants are bad! But I still like the rest of her outfit, so whatever. If you follow the SussexRoyal Instagram, you might have seen something… interesting on their IG Stories. The Sussexes wanted to highlight the work being done by Shout, but they also wanted to make it clear that it was something the two couples worked on together. Just in case William and Kate’s appearance led anyone to believe that this was a Cambridge-only charity. And the Shout people want to remind people of that too:

William, Kate, Harry and Meghan were praised today for their work behind the scenes in developing Shout, a crisis text line for those in need. Details of their support when the cameras are not rolling were revealed as William and Kate joined a volunteer celebration event for Shout, which the four young royals launched back in May. Nancy Lublin, the Founder of Crisis Text Line in the U.S., told T&C that she was “so grateful” for how the royals have highlighted the service publicly and shared how they have also engaged in under-the-radar visits.

“They have been into our offices, I think, four times, at this point in time, quietly without anyone knowing,” Lublin said about the four young royals. She added, “They’ve been to this event without anyone knowing last year. They are really here for the work.” Describing how the young royals have “thrown themselves into hard issues,” she said: “I think they take their role very seriously, really learning about the data. Learning about how things work. I’m so grateful.”

Shout 85258 is a 24/7 text support service which was developed with a £3 million investment from the Royal Foundation and is powered by Crisis Text Line. There are now 1,500 volunteers active on the platform who currently handle an average 600 conversations each day. During the event today Prince William described developing Shout as an “amazing journey.” He added, “Catherine and I, and I know I speak for Harry and Meghan as well, couldn’t be more proud of what Shout has accomplished and what you have still to accomplish.”

The future king spoke of the “sad demand” for volunteers, adding, “The fact that we’ve had to launch Shout shows how much in need the mental health sector is at the minute.” He also described how the Heads Together campaign “chipped away” at the stigma of mental heath but pointed out that “it was very important to us that we felt there was tangible support for the mental health community.”

[From Town & Country]

Well, at least William mentioned the Sussexes, I guess. And it’s good that Shout’s founder was like “they ALL made trips here.”

Last thing: people are making a big deal about the fact that William briefly put his arm around Kate at this Shout event. I ordinarily make a big deal about how William is a big dud with almost everything, but he does this often enough – he’ll briefly put his arm on Kate’s back, usually to guide her somewhere. This brief PDA is not indicative of William being PDA-inspired by Harry, for the love of God.

The KR insta mentioned H&M in their caption yesterday and William named them in his speech. I was pleasantly surprised.

    • Elisa says:

same here. The post was actually really well done and I hope it created a lot of awareness for this initiative.

  2. Liz version 700 says:

The pants look too short. They may well be ankle pants, but they don’t read like that they look like pants that don’t fit. But good for her for mixing it up. Glad the charity let everyone know how much they appreciated EVERYONES support

  3. CrystalBall says:

She has some really short pieces of hair at the back, especially to the left of the long piece in the middle. Very odd. The jig is up, I think. Looks only just shoulder-length in some places.

    • Deedee says:

She’s added wefts and hair pieces for years. Then she piles all her hair forward on her shoulders, like hair curtains, to make it look even fuller in photographs.

    • Molly says:

She wears fake hair like…..all of Hollywood, most of Instagram, and plenty of Midwest suburban moms. Who cares? She’s not the one out there telling the world how real and amazing her hair is.

      • Original Jenns says:

I remember when a photo showed a line on the side of her head. The palace made sure to get a statement out ASAP that it was a scar and not extensions and how dare you insinuate otherwise. So, she is concerned.
ETA I don’t care a bit, as all of Hollywood and probably most celebrities/people in front of an audience do it.

      • Nic919 says:

When KP puts out a statement that she was not wearing extensions and it was a childhood scar she was in fact telling the public that her hair is all real. Just like the instant denial of baby botox. Most people don’t actually care but clearly she does.

      • Deedee says:

James Pryce became hairdresser non grata after he started selling hairstyling like Kate’s that included extensions. It’s not that we care. It’s that Kate cares enough to send out a statement when extensions are mentioned, but let’s not call out anyone for the racist coverage of her sister-in-law.

      • Royalwatcher says:

Uh, yeah she is, Molly. Through officially released palace statements denying the use of hairpieces/weaves.

    • Betsy says:

Which is weird. Like why can’t she just rock her shoulder length hair?

  4. Rogue says:

@chunkyLA when Shout was launched Rebecca English did a tweet where she just named Will&Kate as behind it. And I guess because Meghan was on mat leave when it was launched her& Harry were missing so it didn’t really come across as a team project. I remember commentators here saying the launch was a bit messy.

Anyway that’s the annoying thing about how some royal reporters act. They focus on the gossip& pettiness which can detract from the cause. Therefore it’s great the royal family have social media to promote the work too.

  5. Aurora says:

I think the woman was actually just talking about Meghan and Harry as far as the secret visits go. When she says they attended a secret event last year — that was The Sussexes. The author of the article added the Cambridges the mix.

    • Original Jenns says:

Interesting and a good point. The Cambridges don’t really have secret meetings, they have private meetings (that count toward their totals). The Sussexes seem to have a lot, and we only hear about them from the charities or work partners who mention the multiple meetings leading up to the announcement/kick off.

    • Suzy Webster says:

What, from her comment, makes you think only Meghan and Harry went under the radar? It explicitly mentions four young royals? We get it, you think meghan is the only person in the BRF doing any work and she’s the first person to ever do anything meaningful for charity… but just give it a rest

  6. Beach Dreams says:

I doubt he would’ve mentioned them if Shout hadn’t made sure to credit them.

  7. Cidy says:

At this point it’s a lose/lose right? Because I was happily surprised to see that William mentioned Meg and Harry and that they all have been visiting – I think this public visit was about bringing more attention and the private visits are just to check on how things are going, get more plans in motion etc. All equally important. I thought it was a good shift in the right direction because honestly I’d be more interested if we could see Meg and Kate together and Will and Harry instead of this fued nonsense.

But again, I am a person who believes that William is not behind the fued (this isnt to say they havent benefitted and should have said something to stick up for his brother and sister in law. I really think the smear campaign came from royal couriers and aids that come more from camp Andy/TQ/Charles because honestly they have more to worry about and cover up)

But now if they mention each other we say “well they had to, its PR, they’re trying to look good, they don’t really care.” And if they dont mention each other we go “LOOK THEY’RE FIGHTING. Big royal fued. More smear campaign. Throwing shade.” Like there is no wins for anyone.

So like kudos to all four of them for supporting this initiative.

Side bar, I dont mind that Will and Kate dont PDA. I dont with my partner, and I think at public events like this they might feel awkward if it’s just not something they normally do. I do ooh and aah at H&M though with their cuteness.

    • LW says:

I agree with you CIDY. While I think Will and Kate could more publicly support them after all the crap they’ve (H & M) been through, I’ve always believed it was mostly the courtiers pushing all the nonsense. Probably with some help from Charles and disgusting Andrew, especially the stuff right after Eugenie’s wedding. I thought that was ALL Andrew for the Archie-on-the-way news “stealing” his thunder. He’s a gross, petty man. But the courtiers are known snobs and probably stuck more to archaic traditions than the royals themselves.

      • spookie says:

Doubt if it is anything to do with Charles.

      • Abena Asantewaa says:

It can never be Charles. What is his motive? He is rather weary of William&Kate, who want to usurp his throne, by always projecting like, they are next in line. I think the smear is done by courtiers who support Kate, because, they hate that Meghan outshines her. However, they have benefitted from it. Harry is closer to Charles than William. Have you ever seen an interaction between Charles and Kate?

      • Elisa says:

The Queen and Charles are the decision-makers in the RF. They are doing nothing to stop the smear campaigns. W&K have been getting most of the heat; only recently TQ started to get called out, Charles not. For me that makes it very obvious who is behind all of this.

  8. Mego says:

I too get tired of the press making a huge deal of nothing pda between Kate and William. This isn’t a pda. I do recall Kate’s desperate attempt at Eugenie’s wedding though. It was cringeworthy. Also agree that the presence or absence of pda really isn’t any indication of the state of a marriage.

    • swirlmamad says:

I don’t consider this PDA, either. He’s putting his hand on her back to give her the go-ahead to walk. Hardly a show of affection.

  9. chlo says:

I really hate those pants. That is all. Actually, it’s not the pants – it’s the outfit. Wrong color pants for everything else.

    • Valiantly Varnished says:

Agreed. They are not the right color or shape. I actually like the blazer. It would have looked great with a simple pair of black trousers. But the color and fit of these pants is just off.

  10. Enn says:

Nothing was edited or scrubbed, OMG. Weird bickering takes attention away from a fantastic initiative that is sadly needed in a huge way. Let’s focus on the people who will be able to find the light and stay with us.

  11. Loopy says:

I remember, back in the day, Prince Charles and Princess Diana showed similar low-key levels of affection after their relationship hit the rocks.

  12. A Fan says:

Well, I think those pants are great on Kate. They’re not too tight and are very flattering for her figure. They are reminiscent of the pants she wore in Pakistan – and I thought she should wear that style of pant more often because they look really good on her.

[*This outfit is a huge win.*]

  13. Vinot says:

    She looks barred tf out.
