Ashton Kutcher ‘pretty much ignores’ Demi Moore’s memoir but he’s ‘not happy’

Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore

Demi Moore’s tell-all memoir came out a few months ago, and nearly every gossip outlet ran excerpts from the memoir. The parts which got the most attention were about Demi’s marriage to Ashton Kutcher, and how gross and toxic it was and how Ashton was a total douchebag. Much of it we already knew, like the threesomes and how he cheated on Demi constantly and how his words and actions just made her feel like sh-t. Instead of reacting like an adult and just issuing a one sentence statement – perhaps “While I think Demi is misremembering parts of our marriage, I respect her right to tell her story” – Ashton decided to pull a juvenile stunt and then… leak some sh-t to People Magazine about how his marriage to Mila Kunis is super-strong and he hates Demi or something. Anyway, it’s been more than a month since all of that stuff happened. And I guess Ashton is still talking about how he’s ignoring Demi. Dude.

Demi Moore revealed some of her most intimate moments with ex-husband Ashton Kutcher in her tell-all memoir Inside Out, including allegations of infidelities and threesomes during their eight-year union. Kutcher, who’s now married to Mila Kunis, 36, has not commented but a source tells PEOPLE although he is not happy about Moore’s memoir, “he pretty much ignores it.”

Moore, 57, and Kutcher, 41, first began dating in 2003 after they met at a dinner party. The actress was in her 40s, while Kutcher was 15 years younger. They wed in 2005 and divorced in 2013. During their relationship, Moore had a miscarriage six months into her pregnancy. The loss, she wrote, in her book left her “empty, desperate, confused. . . . I really lost sight of everything that was right in front of me, which was the family that I had.” She began drinking again after being sober for two decades. In the book, Moore claims Kutcher questioned whether alcoholism was real or not. On a Nov. 4 episode of Facebook Watch’s Red Table Talk she recalled, “Ashton said, ‘I don’t know if alcoholism’s a thing. I think it’s about moderation.’ ”

But she quickly pointed out that Kutcher wasn’t to blame for her sobriety slip and instead says it was because of her own desire to “be that girl”: “I made my own story up, that he wanted somebody that he could have wine with. I wanted to be something other than who I am.”

Meanwhile, Kutcher has kept his focus on his work and raising his two kids with Kunis — daughter Wyatt, 4, and son Dimitri, 2. “He is busy with a full life and has moved on,” says the source.

Okay, so I didn’t realize that Demi’s Red Table Talk was so recent. That’s why Ashton is chiming in yet again, and it’s not like “go home, Ashton, no one has been talking about this for weeks.” Honestly, this should have been his first and only statement when the book came out: “Sources close to Ashton say he’s ignoring it and he moved on years ago.” It would have simple and there would have been few follow-up questions. But whatever, he couldn’t help himself. Douche gonna douche.

  1. Ok says:

If he ignores it, would he be bothered?

  2. Dulcinea says:

I read her book and although he sucks, she doesn’t necessary throw him under the bus. Her take is basically, he was young and I was trying to hang on to something that wasn’t really for me.
He’s only making himself look worse by putting more statements out, like Kaiser said.

    • Tourmaline says:

I read it too and totally agree.

I can’t help but feel like comments attributed to his source like “he is busy with a full life” are a bit of a slam to Demi, like “look I moved on and have little kids now with my new wife – who by the way is much younger than you”. Especially because a big part of what Demi writes in the book is how she was desperate to have a baby with him and was heartbroken when she had a miscarriage. She has a picture in the book of her showing off her stomach with that pregnancy and was quite far along (as Kaiser’s post describes).

Demi said unflattering truths about Bruce Willis in her memoir too but he didn’t push back on it so those parts were not really covered in media stories of her book.

And the part about her wanting to “be that girl” for Ashton was something she explained well in the book as part of how she slipped from sobriety while she was with him. She wanted to be the fun girl who could drink like a fish at the Mexican party pad of Joe Francis, etc. She totally owns in the book that she was looking for something with Ashton that he couldn’t ultimately provide, she was looking for a second chance at youth and true love which reading the whole book, one understands her as own youth was very difficult.

Yeah, I didn’t think that she portrayed him as a bad person per se, more that they were just in different places in their lives. And that she let herself turn into a different person in order to please him, whereas he didn’t build his life around hers in that way. The miscarriage and trying to conceive aspect of their story I didn’t know, and with that in mind, his behavior has been particularly cruel, IMO. He needs to just let it lie

    • Yes, exactly. She didn’t blame him at all, which I don’t necessarily agree with either.

  3. HK9 says:

Some people really don’t get the concept of “silence is golden” do they? If he kept his mouth shut he wouldn’t keep reminding people what a douche he is…

  4. I read Demi’s book when it came out. It wasn’t amazingly written but she definitely has an interesting story. There was a lot of information about her childhood and her parents, they had many issues. It was very sad at times.

Regarding the stuff about Ashton, I’m not sure what he’s so upset about. Demi makes it very clear that she was a fully formed, grown woman who made her own decisions. She never blamed Ashton for her losing her sobriety. What really started her spiral was her miscarriage. She was pregnant, showing and everything and they lost the baby. It’s obvious it affected them both. Then there were hormone treatments, and the drinking. These things coupled with the grieving was a lot, and Demi rarely gives herself a break, she certainly doesn’t blame anyone else. As for the cheating, it is what it is, he did it and we all already knew so nothing there was earth shattering either. He was cowardly about it because he didn’t want to be married anymore, but instead of just leaving he went scorched earth.

It’s Demi’s story too, and she’s allowed to tell it. I don’t judge Ashton for his past but his reaction has really turned me off. I’ve never been a huge fan of her but I came away really liking her.

I had a high school friend who used to work for Bruce and Demi back when they were married and he thinks Demi is a great person, so I have heard that.

    • Tourmaline says:

      Agree it was really interesting.

Growing up in the 80s-early 90s, she was such a huge movie star and for me the most surprising thing in the book was the problems with her marriage to Bruce Willis, which always seemed so harmonious. I was shocked that when she was riding high from the release of Ghost and they had only been married a few years, he was telling her that he didn’t want to be married to her and it is implied, cheating on her. He also gave her a lot of crap about working and being away from home. Another major part of the book is her struggle with eating disorders, and that really has not even been touched upon in most media stories about the book.

      • Yeah, the stuff about Bruce being so controlling was surprising to me. I had heard he could be jealous. Him telling her he didn’t want to be married struck me as emotional manipulation. Sounds like he really didn’t want her to work, and wanted a traditional marriage, yet didn’t want to be a traditional husband. I mean, why marry an actress if that’s what you want? I wasn’t too surprised about possible cheating…

Demi’s struggle with an eating disorder practically her whole career really struck me. Especially when she turned to exercise and put her body through so many transformations yet never really seemed content. I’m glad she’s had treatment and is in a better place now.

Bruce came off worse to me than Ashton, yet Bruce has congratulated her, I think that speaks to character.

      • Tourmaline says:

@SofiasSideEye yep I agree. I’m glad she’s in a better place, the thing about becoming estranged from her daughters for a while, when she felt like being a mother was the one thing she valued the most (especially given her own horrifying mother) was very heavy. All in all I found the book unexpectedly insightful.

    • holly hobby says:

I’m not surprised about the Bruce stories. He does come across as a smug jerk. Her career took off after they were married (post Brat Pack). Ghost, A Few Good Men. There’s a reason why she was the highest paid actress at that point.

I’m not surprised Bruce is a traditionalist either. His current wife all but left modeling after she married him.

At least he doesn’t deny any of the stories.

  5. Hmm says:

Is it just me or is it weird that they named their son dimitri? LoL do they call him dimi?

    • Lola says:

Not really, Mila is Eastern European. Ukrainian or Russian, I think. She may have been born there if I remember correctly. Dimitri is an Eastern European name and maybe she wanted a name that reflects those roots?

    • TorontoBeach says:

@HMM. I too thought it was weird they would choose Dimitri as their son’s name. Surely they could find another name that reflected their heritage without choosing one that is closely associated with Ashton’s ex-wife.

I too read the book and have a lot of respect for Demi. Zero respect for Ashton Kutchner which was exactly what I had for him prior to reading the book. Bruce Willis has congratulated Demi and told her how proud he is of her even though there are negative bits about him in Demi’s book. Grow up Ashton and hope for your sake Mila doesn’t figure out what a huge loser you are.

  6. Myrtle says:

    Doucheton Kutcher

  7. Jodi says:

i just think that he’s showing his true colors with this ridiculous reaction. he was selfish in their marriage (apparently) and he’s being selfish now. Demi has a right to tell her version of her own life story. i heard her talking on Ellen and she very clearly clarified that this was her perception of their marriage and took a lot of responsibility. But Ashton’s ego is tweaked because she’s daring to tell her truth and some of that truth is that Ashton made mistakes in their marriage too. it’s just immature and honestly controlling of Demi and her right to her own narrative. the healthy response would’ve been: our marriage wasn’t perfect and we both made a lot of mistakes. i wish i had done some things differently but i’m happy to see Demi telling her story and that she’s happy and healthy and i wish her all the happiness in the world.

    the end.

  8. Meg says:

‘He is busy with a full life and has moved on,” says the source.’
what a privileged position to be in to get able to move on, he didn’t have emotional abuse to recover from like she did. he seems to be belittling her need to recover from his mistreatment and dwelling on him not having to so the same-yet they both lost a daughter! -him disregarding her feelings is cold and seems to prove he was the one who misbehaved in the relationship not demi which is why he wants this all to just go away, so he won’t look bad. I can’t help but feel his mentioning that he has kids now with his current wife is rubbing salt in the wound of Demi miscarrying their baby, which he doesn’t seem as torn up about. She said he didn’t comfort her after the loss of the baby , which I’m lead to believe considering his cold response now. He’s trying to make himself sound better that he’s moved on but it makes him sound heartless instead IMO

  9. olive says:

didn’t she have a stillbirth, not a miscarriage? if she was 6 months along she’s past the miscarriage stage.

  10. JanetFerber says:

His “not happy” makes me happy. Because it’s all about how he feels being outed, not how Demi ever felt. Definition of an asshat right there.
