Moby got giant tattoos on both arms that say ‘animal rights’

Moby posted this photo to his Instagram on Tuesday. He’d just gotten that cute t-shirt and he was super excited to show it off, you know how Moby is. However, if you are an eagle-eyed observer, you might have noticed that Moby also got two new tattoos, one for each arm. Accompanying this photo was Moby’s explanation for his new ink, which, I mean, I think we all kind of get his point but, okay:

As November is my 32 year vegan anniversary i thought i’d get a tattoo (well, technically 12 tattoos) to celebrate. I’m a vegan animal rights activist for many reasons, but ultimately because i believe at the core of my being that every animal has the right to live their own life, according to their own will. Thanks @thekatvond@highvoltagetat #veganforlife#animalrights

For the record, I have no problem with Moby getting a two-foot statement piece on each arm. If he wants to be reminded of his cause every time he reaches for the quinoa, more power to him. Tattoos are as personal as jewelry, you like what you like. Having said that, I do not like the design. Conceptually the huge block stencil letters are interesting. So from an activist’s point of view – bravo. Purely aesthetically speaking, those words, just as words go, aren’t interesting enough for that kind of display, although I understand that’s not his point.

But, if you look at the photo again, you may have noticed this isn’t Moby’s only declaration of his commitment to veganism. In September, he had the following art permanently installed on his neck:

It’s safe to say that subtlety is of no interest to Moby. I applaud him for the dedication to his cause. Presently, I’m wearing underwear with drawings of books and the word ‘Book Lover’ written in a variety of fonts so, you know, we all show our fervor in different ways. But, again, from an artistic perspective – really? This is what he wants to look at every time he looks in the mirror, for the rest of his life? Although, I have to admit, I didn’t get why this tattoo was a double entendre but someone in the comment section clarified: he’s vegan for the rest of his life but also because of animals lives. I guess subtlety is lost on me anyway and maybe I do need it spelled out, on a neck, in dark letters, and a corresponding sleeve on each arm.

Let me end with this, I don’t like Moby’s new ink but the reason I don’t like it is because it is not attractive to me. I am not bothered by his becoming his own billboard for his beliefs nor do I see any harm in those beliefs. I’d rather he discuss his veganism than his stories about creeping on young starlets. I assume Kat Von D, also a vocal vegan, was included in both captions because she did the work. Honestly, between Moby’s stance on limiting food stamps and Kat’s stance on anti-vaxxing, I don’t need tattoos to tell me they aren’t on the humans’ side.

Thanks to DListed for the story

    Moby has jumped the shark

He’s that super annoying kind of vegan that everyone hates and people very quickly stop listening to. Bless him and good on him for this activism I guess.

  3. Elo says:

Nothing wrong with being a vegan- but those tattoos are thirsty and stupid.

  4. EnnuiAreTheChampions says:

Can’t wait for tomorrow’s Moby Instagram post, in which he’ll coyly reveal his “I dated Natalie Portman” lower back tattoo.

This is the LOL moment for today for me: “If he wants to be reminded of his cause every time he reaches for the quinoa, more power to him”. But he still is a douch.

Maybe the outlined letters are just phase one. My co-worker got full sleeves on his arms and it took years. The first steps were just an outline of everything. But whatever. Okay, Moby.

    That looks ridiculous.

“I don’t need tattoos to tell me they aren’t on the humans’ side” – I cackled through this whole piece, you’re on fire this morning!

Right? I enjoy everyone’s write-ups but Hecate’s are the ones that always make me lol. As far as Moby’s tats, well…..as long as he’s happy with them that’s all that matters, right?

  9. JanetFerber says:

Ah, give Moby a break. His body, his tatoos, his beliefs. It’s all good.

It’s all good until he starts trying to control poor folks who are barely getting by. I get SNAP (“food stamps”) benefits. The rule is that, if it says “nutrition facts” it counts as food.

Don’t like it? Take it up with the FDA. I’m just trynna live my life.

I don’t often purchase bread or rice with my SNAP card, because the food bank often has those. (Ever think of THAT, Moby?! Of course not, you’re rich.)

The food bank makes my SNAP go so much further. So if you see me in line at the (cheap) grocery, buying a frozen pizza, don’t imagine that you know my life. You’re at the grocery store. This is my treat for the week.

Then, there are the folks who criticize *total strangers* for paying with SNAP at Whole Foods. So, which is it? May I please occasionally have one or two nice things? Should I eat well, or just be the cheapest?

Or, perhaps you just feel the right to judge me because you feel you are “supporting” my “lifestyle.” In that case, I’d suggest you look into how the guv subsidies actually work. You are supporting Chuck Grassley’s lifestyle. Mitch McConnell’s. And all of those other worthless dudes.

There are members of congress who *own factory farming operations* which are routinely subsidized by the guv. One (or maybe two) of them have ever recused themselves from the vote. One refuses to accept the subsidies, on principles.

Charles Grassley is one who is all too happy to have his hand in your pocket.

The rest of them thought that cutting SNAP would be a great way to keep the Ag subsidies rolling in.

tl;dr: Moby is blowing smoke and can have a seat.

To me, they are outlandish. But, his body and his beliefs, his mirror he will look at daily as a reminder of the outlandish-ness … 🤷🏽‍♀️

“..underwear with drawings of books and the word ‘Book Lover’ written in a variety of fonts…” I need this in my life! @Hecate – where is it from???

  13. Pamspam says:

Eh. Not a huge fan of this ink, but as someone else said it might be the beginning of a sleeve? What I AM a fan of is his restaurant. You guys – it’s SO GOOD!!

  14. Valiantly Varnished says:

Cool. I would love to know when he will get that giant back tattoo reminding himself not to lie about sleeping with underage actresses.

  15. olive says:

remember when he went to waffle house and then posted a sad instagram photo complaining there was nothing there he could eat as a vegan, like this wasn’t information he could’ve figured out prior to going there?? classic insufferable moby.

Honestly, I am an animal rights advocate and my two nieces are vegans and we have died laughing about this. I’m sorry but this in not gangsta in the slightest. His scrawny neck is dominated by his statement and the arms are beyond the pale. I have been getting tattooed since I was 18 and I’m 50 now. There are good tattoos and then there are midlife crisis tattoos. (PS I have many bad tattoos but I’m not proud of them 🙂

  17. Maxie says:

If he’s happy with his tatts then so be it. It’s his body.
