If I was going on a week-long vacation to Miami, I would probably pack a book or two, especially for the flight and maybe one for the beach. There’s something fun and decadent about sunbathing while reading a trashy novel. As it turns out, Kendall Jenner packed a book for her trip to Miami too. She’s been in Miami for a week for Art Basel. She’s been partying with Leonardo DiCaprio and hitting up all of the major events at or around Art Basel. She’s also been sunning herself on the beach and on various yachts. The whole Art Basel experience is SO exhausting, darlings. So that’s why Kendall took a moment for herself to pose with a book while sunning herself on a yacht – the SS Groot – on Friday.
I’m fascinated by all of this, honestly. Kendall is, in my opinion, the dumbest Kardashian-Jenner. Reading her interviews is an exercise in vapidity. I never would have suspected that she was “read for fun” or that it would even occur to her to read a real book as some kind of yacht photo-op (which this clearly is). But she really wanted us to believe that she was reading this book AND making notes, because she’s clearly marked pages with green Post-It notes. The Post-Its cover more than Kendall’s itty-bitty bikini.
As for the book… she’s reading Chelsea Hodson’s Tonight I’m Someone Else. Hodson is on Twitter and she’s hilarious, and she was completely freaking out about Kendall reading her book. Her books truly got a spike in interest after these photos came out, and it’s selling out on Amazon. Kendall Jenner is now every publisher’s favorite model. If I worked at Random House or HarperCollins, I would currently be sending Kendall ALL of the publishing house’s books and praying that Kendall wanted to do another “I’m smart, I read!” photo-op.

Same here, but I doubt she’s reading as you and I know “reading”. This is simply another orchestrated and choreographed photo-op. She might also be trying to change our perception of her as a vapid party girl. Oh, petal, I don’t think so.

Her PR person marked the sentences Kendall should read with the post-it notes so Kendall doesn’t have to use too much brain power when botching these speaking points later. Or, the post-it notes mark the words Kendall doesn’t know so can have someone explain it to her later.
I was wondering about that too. Why would she have so many marked sections that are past where she is at in the book?…
ahaha this also happened over the summer with Kendall reading Darcie Wilder’s “Literally Show Me A Healthy Person”. a small corner of the internet was freaking out because it seemed so absurd, a Kardashian reading a book by a DIY-ish internet-y writer. So there’s a pattern.
I believe it’s partially sincere, like I think this is the person Kendall wants to be, if that makes sense. I feel like being bookish and a theory bae has currency in her corner of the social scene. But the post-its seem like a total show to me, I mean, wouldn’t you just write in the margins? She’s on a boat, how are the post its not flying everywhere lol
As someone who abhors any kind of defacement whatsoever in a book I’d rather she wrote on post it’s than in the margins.
She not exactly reading Proust. A twitter writer is probably the only thing her brain can slightly make sense of.
She is the dumbest one in the family. I’ve always noticed that her and Kylie speak differently than the older ones. Like they don’t seem to communicate in full sentences and complete thoughts. The youngest Jenners were both “home schooled” and it’s evident.
There’s aN English chick lit writer named Sophie Kinsella who wrote a book where the character trails off on every sentence. It was really hard for me to read and understand how someone talks like that but now that you’ve pointed it out I wish I had used Kendall as an example in my head (and yes the character is a self absorbed instagrammer who is studying to be a yoga teacher and was once a model). Perhaps she based her on Kendall and Kylie

I’m really happy for Hodson. I don’t know her work personally, but I am good friends with a published novelist and man, it’s so tough to make a living at writing. (Even if you’re very talented, as my friend is.)
I wish all these insta-stars would pose for paps with books written by women.
You can’t read in a comfortable position when someone is photographing you. If she did, the tabloids would have a festival pointing out her bad posture and skin rolls. She pretty much has to sit like this to not get ripped apart physically so we will all just rip apart how dumb she is instead of, ya know, celebrating it and encouraging other young women to read.
Eh, I read books every damn day, so I don‘t see why any woman should be celebrated doing just that.

Is it even her book? Maybe she borrowed it from someone else so she could pose, thus why the ridiculous amounts of post-it notes past where she’s actually reading. Obviously from her cliched instagram poses, she’s not really reading. Taking a picture with a book when you’re not really known for being bookish is a good PR move, great way to get people talking about you.
Reading on a yacht is the new reading in a tree.
My students look up to people like her, so I’d rather see her reading a book than doing a line of coke. Even if she is “pretending” to read, I’ll never judge someone for WANTING to be well read.
I’m with you. Her reading position is clearly a pose; but if she wants to be well read, good for her! I will never laugh at anyone for reading or trying to read. Despite her advantages in life, Kendall wasn’t exactly given a great education. Perhaps she actually wants to better herself? And if she’s influencing other young people to do the same? Fantastic.
I really should not even complain that she’s inspiring people to read, but I’m horrified that her influence is so strong that people who probably don’t read went out and bought a book just because they saw her reading it. The Kardashian-Jenner appeal continues to baffle and horrify me, but I can’t be mad at anyone being inspired to read.
May the family that brought us a vapid self obsession on an entirely new level now inspire young people to read books and stay in/go back to school. Cheers.
In a defense, it is a book of essays, so reading one chapter in a copy somebody else has marked/post-it-ed up before you makes more sense.
A few years ago she and Kylie were introducing someone at a D-list awards show (maybe Nickelodeon?) and she had a lot of problems reading the teleprompter, and said something like, “Guys, I don’t read a lot!” At the time people questioned if she knew how to read.
Eh, I’d rather her advertise a book more than anything else. Maybe one of her followers will learn enough to wane them self off of her.
