Since Donald Trump is an unhinged moron and a delicate diaper-baby when it comes to being criticized, he is sitting out this year’s Kennedy Center Honors. Since 1978, presidents and first ladies have always attended the annual Kennedy Center Honors. But the Trumps have skipped three years in a row because the Trumps are afraid that some legend of stage, screen or music will use their time on stage to criticize them to their dumb faces. So, it has fallen to the Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, to properly fete the honorees. Over the weekend, the State Department hosted a dinner for this year’s Kennedy Center Honors recipients ahead. One of the recipients this year is Linda Ronstadt. This is what happened, from Sam Greisman’s Twitter:
At the State Dept. dinner for the Kennedy Center honorees Mike Pompeo wondered aloud when he would be “loved”. Then Linda Ronstadt got up to get laurels, looked the f–ker right in the eye and said “maybe when you stop enabling Donald Trump”. Icon.
Unfortunately for all of, this part of the Kennedy Center Honors rigamarole isn’t televised, because that would have been the perfect GIF, the perfect viral video. We can only hope that she says something similar when she receives her honor at the Kennedy Center. I love it when legends are given an open mic and a chance to speak their mind. But of course, all of the GOP snowflakes are making fun of her for… like, speaking truth to power. Mike Pompeo’s gotta go, along with Pence and Bill Barr and all of these f–king clowns and clown-enablers.
If you’re wondering why Ronstadt is in a wheelchair, it’s because she has a degenerative, Parkinson’s-like disease which affects her ability to walk/run, strum a guitar and sing.

I saw the Linda Rondstat documentary called the sound of my voice which is amazing. I grew up on her music and think she is and will always be an amazing human being. So glad she’s being honoured and I’m not surprised she said this at all.
The doc will be on CNN New Year’s day for all interested.
Growing up, I sooooo wanted to look like Linda Ronstadt (esp. in the Boy Scout tfit, and the “Living in the USA” album. I wanted To BE here, and hang with all the great musicians she got to play with…her songs are still in my playlist rotation in the car.
She IS an icon.

I have always loved Linda Ronstadt. I will always love Linda Ronstadt. What a woman. Her singing may have been stifled, but she’s still got the balls to give it to a trump fvckerclown.

My parents were huge Linda Rondstat fans growing up and from what I know of her? This is no surprise. You’re a legend Linda!
Linda has always spoken her mind without holding back. If Pompeo is claiming to be a fan, he should have known that.
Linda’s is one of the the FIRST seminal voices that I grew up on….soulful and sweet and tangy…a couple of her songs can STILL…rip out my heart and soul…it’s funny how affecting those songs were when I listened to them as a child or a teen…and now as I zip through middle-age…having quantified so many of the experiences from those songs….
LAWD….
But I digress…
In this day and age…where so many of my heroes have opened their mouths and embarrassed me to the depths of my soul….Linda has proven…ONCE AGAIN…that THIS…AIN’T THAT!
Just watched an old video of Linda singing Poor Poor Pitiful Me and all she had to do was stand there and sing. Not the auto tuned little divas of today.
She’s my favorite singer of all time. Looking forward to seeing the new doc on her @CNN on New Year’s Day. I love that she is still outspoken.
I’ve been following Linda’s story closely because my dad died earlier this year from the same condition she has, PSP. It robbed him of his voice, his sight, his ability to swallow, his balance and motor skills. We lost him in inches over a long period of time. For her to be diagnosed with this at a relatively young age is hard enough but that we are also losing her beautiful voice is really sad.
My mom died of this cruel disease 2 years ago. She was in a nursing home at 65. We watched this disease slowly take everything from her. It is more like ALS than Parkinson’s. I am so sorry for your loss. And God Bless Linda Ronstadt
I am so sorry for your loss too..I’m hopeful that with Linda speaking up about it, more people might become aware of PSP. Like Linda, my dad was misdiagnosed for years before they figured it out.
Parkinson’s is a chronic disease that affects one’s muscles. So everyday, necessary activities such as walking, brushing teeth and eating can be affected. Patients often time their medications to help keep tremors at bay and appear more “normal”.
As someone who cared for a close relative with this life-altering disease, I admire how she keeps going and does the best with what has been dealt her. She seems like a straightforward, realistic person. I’m glad she is using the voice she can still muster to speak truth to those in power.
My husband LOVES her and grew up on her music. She sings so beautifully and she sings in Spanish so well. So soulful.

Linda is a goddess. I have so many memories of her – concerts, Broadway, the Muppet show. Seriously, try to find her Muppet show episode – she sang Blue Bayou in front of twenty rippet-ing Kermits, it was awesome. In her concerts, she just stood and sang, but that voice!
She racked up a pretty good live life too. Various Eagles, Jerry Brown, Jim Carrey, George Lucas.
One more thing: I saw her in the Pirates of Penzance on Bway in a previous millenium. She was wailing along in the operetta but then she missed a high note and stamped her feet in frustration. It was adorable.
The Trio album with Linda, Dolly Parton, and Emmylou Harris is one of the greatest albums ever recorded.
Agreed! I remember my dad being obsessed with this album when it came out, and that was my introduction to all three of those legendary voices.
Love love Linda Ronstadt! I have several of her albums. Her voice is just so clear and distinctive. You can absolutely identify her on the radio. Unlike the current crop of singers out there, you don’t know who is who. They’re voices aren’t really their voices but digitally manipulated.
Sarah Bareilles is the only one that sort of can be considered an heir the 70s vocalists – Carly Simon, Roberta Flack, Carol King etc. If you can find “Once Upon a Another Time” on YouTube. That song is sublime and she sung part of it acapella.
I love her so much. I had no idea she was ill. Long, Long Time always gives me the chills.
I’ve always loved her music and her voice is indescribably beautiful. One of my favourite albums is “What’s New” with the Nelson Riddle orchestra. She covers a bunch of early pop standards and her voice will make you melt. I’m glad she’s standing up to that fart-catcher Mike Pompeo – she may be in a wheelchair but she’s still feisty as hell!

I wanted to BE Linda Ronstadt in 1974. I was in 7th grade and I remember WLS in Chicago playing “You’re No Good” on constant rotation.
As if we needed another reason to love her. She is amazing. I have listened to her music since a kid. Voice of an angel, and a strong, sweet woman. I wish her nothing but the best, and thank her for speaking up for us.
