People: Prince Harry was the ‘also-ran’ to ‘good-looking, clever’ William, lol

The wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

My lord, how many excerpts will People Magazine do of their cover story this week? About a million. One of the latest excerpts is about how sad it is that Prince Harry is not going to stick around to play second fiddle to his better looking brother. I sh-t you not. That’s the narrative being pushed. Which brings me to something I was thinking about regarding this massive People cover story: it wasn’t just Camp Sussex leaking “their side” to People Magazine, although Camp Sussex definitely did that. Camp Cambridge also got involved in the narrative-spinning TO PEOPLE. Which is notable – the Cambridges, it would seem, are worried about how they look outside of the narrow, racist, parochial confines of the British tabloid-media establishment. Thus, we have to hear about how hard it was for Harry because Will was so good-looking, and how hard it is for William because Harry won’t be around to take his cast-off work.

While Prince William is the future king, Prince Harry was expected to play an important — even if supporting — role in the future of the monarchy.

“Courtiers imagined in the future that Harry would be shoulder-to-shoulder with William when he was King,” Penny Junor, author of Prince Harry: Brother, Soldier, Son, tells PEOPLE in this week’s cover story. “He would pick up the bits that William wouldn’t be as good for. They would be complimentary and side-by-side throughout their lives. That was a lovely picture. Harry was the secret weapon, really.”

However, a schism between the brothers deepened over the past years. Multiple sources previously told PEOPLE that tensions rose back when Harry first told his family he wanted to marry Meghan Markle after less than a year of dating. An insider says William, who dated college sweetheart Kate Middleton for about eight years before tying the knot, cautioned Harry that things were moving too quickly, leaving the younger sibling angry and hurt. The brothers grew up close, especially leaning on each other in the wake of losing their mother Princess Diana at such an early age. However, Prince Harry dealt with being known as “the spare” to his older sibling from his birth.

“It’s not terribly good for your self-confidence,” says Junor. “He was always compared to William: William was the good-looking one, the important one, the clever one. Harry was the also-ran. I think that did take a toll on him.”

The dream of William and Harry working together despite having their own families and lives proved to be more complex in reality. “When Meghan came around and she was interested in making changes, he welcomed it,” says a friend. And when Archie was born, the couple’s focus shifted even more to “doing what’s right for their family,” adds another friend.

[From People]

“He was always compared to William: William was the good-looking one, the important one, the clever one. Harry was the also-ran.” Let’s be completely real: there was a time when William WAS the good-looking one. He seemed to take after his mother – tall, with a full head of sun-kissed blonde hair, Diana’s deep blue eyes and the same shy smile. Then the Windsor genes hit William like a ton of bricks and suddenly younger-brother Harry got tall and started wearing bracelets, necklaces and cool clothes. By the time Harry was 20-22, he was very, very cute. By the time William reached his late 20s, Harry was the “hot brother” and William was established as the dull, balding one. Harry served two tours in Afghanistan – William was too lazy to do anything other than “part-time” work as a co-pilot. Will married the only woman who wanted him – Harry married a woman who rocked his world to the core.

The narrative that Harry has always been secretly jealous of William is, frankly, very obvious projection on William’s part, since William has been seething with jealousy about Harry’s popularity, natural charm and hot wife for years. That’s part of the reason why William was part of the smear campaign – Will could NOT stand that Harry and Meghan might naturally overshadow him.

Britain's Prince William, Duke of Cambridge (R) and Britain's Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex (2R), host a reception to officially open the 2018 Illegal Wildlife Trade Conference at St James' Palace in London on October 10, 2018. - The 2018 Illegal Wildlife Trade Conference is the fourth such international conference bringing together heads of state, ministers and officials from nearly 80 countries, alongside NGOs, academics and businesses, to build on previous efforts to tackle this lucrative criminal trade. The conference is being hosted by the UK Government from 11th – 12th October 2018.

It’s complEmentary, not complImentary , People Magazine.

    • Feeshalori says:

Thank you, spelling/grammar nerd here too!

    • Frida_K says:

It does make for a apropos Freudian slip though, especially if intended to convey that Harry was expected to spend his life kissing up to dullard Wills.

  2. sunny says:

LOL. Normal Bill is hilarious. Both camps working hard this week but this story is so ridiculous. William, clever? LMFAO. Harry has more compassion, more street smarts, more vision in his pinky than normal Bill has in his entire body. This article is just so funny.

    • Jane says:

William is the good looking one??? Ha ha hahahahaha ha hahahahaha hahahahaha!

Remember our Honk for Harry campaign? I don’t recall a Wank for Willy campaign.

This article is bang on: Harry won the sibling contest on every level!

      • Snazzy says:

        Wank for Willie 🤣🤣🤣

      • Nahema says:

Maybe it’s just me but I read that as someone giving an example of negative thoughts about yourself, rather than saying those were his exact thoughts or feelings? Like it was being based on the fact that he was the spare and William was the heir, so he might also feel that way with his confidence being knocked? I know a lot has happened but isn’t it a little far fetched to think that William called up People magazine and said that Harry always felt overshadowed by how good looking and smart he was?

      • BabsORIG says:

@Nahema, William didn’t need to, his minions do a this with his permission.

      • Nahema says:

@BabsORIG – ah maybe. It’s hard to keep up with all this and figure out what is likely to be the truth and what isn’t

      • EMF999 says:

I am dying at the “Wank for Willy”.

      • Digital Unicorn says:

@Jane – I assume you are a Brit with the whole ‘wank for willy’. Its perfect.

I was thinking more along the lines of ‘Willy Waving’.

      • Lucy De Blois says:

They declined wrong the verb: WAS, is the right tense. Anyway, he was not filling the eye these days, but since he started gardening, the cheeks got filled with a very unattractive potato on each side. That was the burial of the good looks.

    • Char says:

They really reached rock bottom with the “Harry was jealous of William’s beauty”.

      • Alexandria says:

When you put it that way I mentally pictured Willy turning into a rage when he asked the mirror who was the fairest of them all lol

      • ArtHistorian says:

I’m old enough to remember how William WAS the good-looking one in his teens but Harry grew into his looks during his middle to late 20s and William got hit with the Windsor ugly stick in his early 30s and his looks have gone downhill since.

William was a pretty child as well whereas Harry was more mischievous than good-looking.

It’ll be interesting to see whether Harry will avoid the Windsor ugly stick later in life.

      • minx says:

Yes, William was very good looking when he was younger and I would have ranked Harry as sort of average then. But when William’s looks went, they really went. And it’s not his hair loss, lots of bald men are hot. I agree that the Windsor family does not age well at all.

      • Candikat says:

I mean, the article’s not wrong when it comes to their childhoods! William was the golden child, the heir, the beautiful brilliant future king. Harry was portrayed as less cute, less bright, less well-liked, the child of a perilously broken marriage. Of course everything switched in adulthood, but I can absolutely believe that child Harry spent years being jealous of his brother.

      • fatladysinging says:

This was the moment we were all like: Dayyyyyum, when did Harry get HOT!?

        http://i2.cdnds.net/12/34/618×389/wenn1427205_1.jpg

      • BellaBella says:

@ArtHistorian – I remember too. Maybe it’s like the saying: You get the face you deserve. In any case, Harry is wildly happy with his wife and child, and that makes all the difference in how someone looks. Will just looks dour.

      • Lucy De Blois says:

Come on!! Is it a magazine of gossip or comedy article??!!

    • Yup, Me says:

I think this is an attempt to remind people that William is the “real” royal and the one who comes with the cache’ of royalty. He and his congealing bowl of oatmeal wife. American support has been critical to the royal family for YEARS. Financially and in terms of popularity, American love of the royalty thing has been huge for them.

That’s been the issue the whole time. All of these homely, boring royals have been outraged that Harry and Meghan (just by being themselves) have been overtaking them in popularity (and financial pull- they get more clicks than the rest of them) and there’s no structure in the royal family that allows for people to rise to the top based on their skills and abilities and successes. That is completely antithetical to what the entire system is about.

      • Dulce says:

“He and his congealing bowl of oatmeal wife”…
BEST COMMENT OF THE DAY!! Thank you for making me laugh so much!! 😂😂

      • Lady2Lazy says:

I agree that W&K, especially K, has become extremely upset that H has always displayed the best of his mothers qualities. When H visits foreign countries, he engages with the locals and expresses a deep empathy and understanding that even though he is Royal, he is understanding and empathetic. The people love him because he is his mothers son, unlike W. And K is one of the laziest royals and she has been overshadowed by M, which upsets her deeply, which is why she suddenly has been working on more projects. Harry is his mothers son, and William is his fathers son.

      • Elizabeth says:

I may be alone, but I think Prince Charles has a lot of good qualities. He’s more intelligent than a lot of people think and has been proven right on a number of subjects, like the environment and organics. The Princes Trust has helped thousands of people get training and start their own businesses. And Diana was far from perfect, even though she was empathetic. In my estimation, William has the worst traits of both parents, and Harry has the best traits.

    • Kaiser nailed it in her commentary in this post. Agree with everything she says above.

    • Where'sMyTiara says:

There is no universe in which Will is the good looking one. He got the worst of allll the genes. Worst temperament, worst looks. He’s got Grandpa Spencer’s noggin and a Windsor face. By the time Wills reaches Chaz’s age he’s gonna make elderly Winston Churchill look like a hottie.

Harry has the Mountbatten noggin and a Spencer face & colouring. Much more attractive.

    • Sara says:

Harry is def the hot one.

  3. Sparkly says:

The way this family handles the press and PR, you’d think anyone with intelligence would realize it’s not the family’s forte. Too bad they seem to value yesmen over competent advisors. I hope H&M’s choices do restructure how the BRF interacts with the press. Something desperately needs to. Assuming the BRF holds in there, that is.

  4. Becks1 says:

LOL for days. Sure, William was the better looking brother – 20 years ago? 15 years ago? Sometimes I see an old picture of him and its like, “ohhhhh, that’s right. He WAS really hot.” And harry was the “also ran” at that point in time. But at some point Harry surpassed him – and I think a lot of it has to do with personality and confidence.

There was a Vanity Fair (or Vogue?) article last week about how sexy Harry is now, because he did what so many women want their spouses to do – he stood up for his wife against his family and took her side. And that is totally part of his appeal – his love for his wife.

Now all that said – I do think Harry understood he was meant to play a supporting/complementary role to William, and he wasn’t really okay with that anymore if it meant he had to constantly dim his own light and that of his wife. He took the heat off William for years in the press, and I just think he wasn’t willing to do that anymore.

    • Peg says:

Harry was always popular, any place he visited, be it Africa or the Caribbean the people loved him, because he did not act standoffish and could relate to them at any level.
Cain may the heir, but he lacks charisma.

      • Shirleygailgal says:

There was a picture of Kate at an even the other day and all the peeps surrounded her and her hands were in front of her…no connection with her “subjects”. DoS was at an event the same day (or the day before or the day after) and the picture of her with her peeps … they all had their arms around each other and were obviously connecting. If I could do a side by each I would. But I played a narrative in my head….”DoS breaking protocol, being too casual”. “Kate, future future queen consort, holds herself in a regal manner” type cr*p. Looking at the faces of the peeps, though, DoS brought hope. Katie Keenless brought…photographers and whilst I’m sure she was polite, she sure as heck didn’t look engaged. Even their wives are different…and I think it’s important to note Wm DID marry “the only one who would have him”. They never expected good ole Harry to ‘out’ them…outdo them work-wise, out-shine them personality wise AND looks-wise. Wm probably didn’t read his prep notes, is all

    • swirlmamad says:

Yep, exactly this. There’s no man more attractive than one who outwardly shows his love and passion for his wife. It’s what anyone would want, right? A life partner who would risk it all for his love. No matter how hard you try, it’s impossible to envision Will standing up for Kate in that way.

    • Keekee says:

      What does also ran mean?

      • Feeshalori says:

Also ran means a loser, especially by a wide distance.

      • whatever says:

After a race, reports will list the winners. The “also rans” are those who also ran in the race but lost bigtime. So say a big name ran, but rather than winning as expected, they ended up in 18th place.

      • ArtHistorian says:

That expression says it all – because it is only in the narrow confines of the BRF that Harry is the “loser” and that is SOLELY based on him being the second-born to the Prince of Wales. William is only the “winner” because of an accident of birth.

      • Amy Too says:

It has political connotations, too. So and so won the primary. (X, Y, Z also ran.) Except in politics, the idea is that the person best suited to the job, best liked, the person who worked the hardest to make connections with the people won. To use “also ran” about anyone in the RF is especially gross because none of them are winning the top job based on anything other than birth order. “Also ran” implies an actual competition where anyone could’ve won. That is so not this.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

Yeah once upon a time William was the ‘hot’ one but no more – Harry got hotter with age while William got the face he deserves.

Harry has always been the popular one – the one that countries always asked to visit rather than the heir. I can’t remember which countries it was but there was a report before Meghan that those countries were told Harry wasn’t available and wouldn’t they prefer the Cambridges. Reportedly Willy wasn’t very happy about those requests.

      • Becks1 says:

@DU – yes! I cant remember which country it was. Maybe India? But I definitely remember that report. Also apparently Morocco specifically asked for H&M. And wasn’t the meeting with the king unplanned until they were there?

That kind of international appeal has to sting for William.

      • notasugarhere says:

China and Japan requested Harry too.

    • Frizzy says:

William looks like Diana’s male clone with hair loss. I can’t unsee his Mom. Harry is completely unnoticeable if he was just a dude walking down the street.

      • Ash says:

You’re right. I probably would not look twice at either of them if they weren’t royalty. However, I think the real difference would be apparent once they started speaking. Once William begins to speak, any outward semblance of attractiveness would become lesser and lesser as he mouths platitudes without any signs of engagement and runs off once his duty is done. While Harry, I think, with his charm and genuine interest would become more attractive the more time you spend with him. There is nothing more attractive than a confident, competent man.

      • fluffybunny says:

Put a hat on Harry to cover the bald spot and I’m all over him. Love the beard. My husband is bearded so it’s my thing.

    • Chrissyms says:

To be fair to William, I have a lot of family in Malta and my aunt some his up close and personal on his last trip there and she said he was very striking looking with clear nice skin and clear blue eyes. She also mentioned his height and that he carried himself well . She was in person under the impression that he was quite handsome and striking. Both brothers have different things going on I think. But I agree the story is ridiculous people magazine

  5. Sesame says:

Excuse me, what?! KP is really trying hard to revise the past. Dullard William is looking more and more like smeagol these days.

    • What. . .now? says:

Ok, I nearly choked on my tea! “looking more like smeagol” — OMG, that is freaking hilarious!!

Because. . .I can see it!

  6. TeddyPicker says:

Good lord, Penny Juror. They actually pay her for this nonsense?

IMHO: the Windsor genes seem to hit HARD once they get married. Same thing happened to Charles in the mid-90s. Harry is still the more attractive brother, but even he’s had a decline in the past 2 years. That hair just won’t stick around past 35…

    • Prettykrazee says:

She’s a fool. Why is anyone paying her after that disastrous interview on CBS This Morning? She embarrassed herself so bad. They had her stuttering and she actually used the term “coloured”. She needs to go away now.

    • Elisa says:

I honestly think she is making this sh** up at this point, this story is beyond ridiculous.
And I agree, both Wills and Harry are loosing / have lost their looks.

    • I love how someone writes a biography about one of them and becomes an expert on every aspect of them into perpetuity. The book is often poorly researched, mostly gossip bio with a definite agenda, and all of a sudden the author and the press think they have some sort of inside track into the beliefs, thoughts, and actions of the subject. Penny Junor and Angela Levin are both especially guilty of this. I don’t think Harry gives 2 flying F**** about them. My other favorite group of in-the-know insiders, is Diana’s Ex-staff. She’s been dead for over 20 years and still her butler, cook, and bottle washer know exactly who Harry is and exactly what Diana would think of all this. Every time they take money to betray her son, she must turn over in her grave.

      • carmen says:

Agree with you about some of Diana’s former staff. Paul Burrell really milked it, didn’t he?

  7. Sofia says:

    William was the pretty one

Now he looks like Stephen Miller’s long lost son

  8. S808 says:

In terms of looks AND popularity it’s like the people that peak in high school (William) vs the people that peak in college and beyond (Harry).

    • Shirleygailgal says:

my sister was GORGEOUS in high school and beyond. I slowly “grew into” my looks and was peak in my late 20’s early 30’s.

  9. Nina says:

    I don’t want to mock will’s apparence.
But calling him good looking in comparison to Harry is laughable.
Harry is the reason why an American agreed to eat pudding and unseasoned white beans for 18 months.

    • Yup, Me says:

Are you kidding? Come on now. Harry is handsome IN COMPARISON TO the other royals which is not challenging. They’re generally a pretty unattractive group of pasty people. His charisma and personality and obvious care for what he’s doing (and, as stated above, his protection of his wife) all make him way sexier than his face, those skinny arms and those too close together eyes.

If Harry hadn’t been born a royal, I doubt he would get much play if he was just some dude on the street with a regular old job and regular old income.

      • Betsy says:

I dunno – people don’t have to be royal to have charisma, and he might well have had that even if he weren’t Royal. It’s not uncommon for people to be not hyper attractive but for their natural charisma to shine through.

    • Tracym says:

Say what? Pudding and unseasoned white beans for 18 months?! Who … where … when … why … how?

  10. Belli says:

    The projection is hilarious!

Poor Bill. He grew up being the heir, the better looking one (until his mid 20s), the focus.

Then Harry grew up. Now Harry has the looks, the compassion, the charisma, the living marriage, the work ethic, the actual smarts…

    What’s Billy left with?

  11. Silas says:

Projection. OMG, Harry’s so jealous of me!

Meanwhile, Harry has talked about how sorry everyone else in the family feels for William for having to be king.

They shouldn’t though. William’s entire identity is about his title. He’s built nothing else for himself. All his complaining is just whining about anyone expecting from him than just serving him.

Also, Harry’s existence isn’t about doing the bits left over after William has picked through it. That’s so dysfunctional and sick. What is wrong with that family?

  12. BlueSky says:

Willie is just mad because Harry is going to live out Willie’s middle class life fantasy.

  13. Nina says:

And William is a lot of things but clever isn’t one of them.He just look super stiff all the time.

  14. crogirl says:

Oh please, neither of them has ever been good looking. If they weren’t princes noone would look at them twice.

    • Maria says:

Really have to disagree. William in his day was AMAZING. I remember reading Seventeen (at like, age 10) and them announcing he’d decided to go to university at St. Andrews like it was breaking news. Sigh! He’s so sour looking now sometimes.

      • Alexandria says:

Uh personally I would not use the word amazing. He wasn’t ugly.

      • Maria says:

I feel like 2002 was the sweet spot for him. Until, as others have said, he smiled, lol.

Maybe it’s just nostalgia. I miss 90’s Leo too.

      • Feeshalori says:

Ah, but his beautiful mop of hair more than compensated for his teeth at that time.

      • Elisa says:

@Maria: I agree, when looking at some old pics of Wills you can see he was drop dead gorgeous. Today, not so much. Also, I don’t get why he – and also Harry – don’t get treatment for their hair loss. There are good options available and it makes a huge difference… just sayin’

    • I think they both had a brief flash of hot and both are built fairly well, but yea this article was written just for this purpose, to argue about who is hotter.

      • swirlmamad says:

I personally don’t think Harry came into his own (attractiveness-wise) till he got older, filled out and most importantly grew in his beard. Bless him, but clean-shaven he’s not my cup of tea at all. Will, on the other hand, was a good looking teenager but went downhill fast starting in his mid-20s. Flash in the pan.

      • ArtHistorian says:

There are some men who are only attractive with a beard. Harry’s one of them.

      • notasugarhere says:

I’ll add Felipe and Haakon to that list, AH.

      • ArtHistorian says:

King Felipe is hands down the most handsome and sexy of all the European royal men, but he is extra delish with a beard.

    • tmbg says:

Bill has always had a horsey face. On horses it’s beautiful, but on humans, not so much.

      • kerwood says:

        Agreed.

There was a time when people swooned over William but I think it was less about how good-looking he was (not very) and how much he resembled his mother. For a lot of people it was like having her back for a while. That resemblance has faded and he turned into the homely dullard he is.

I wouldn’t say Harry is very attractive physically either. What makes Harry attractive is his personality. The way he relates to people and the way he adores his family makes him VERY attractive. Normal Bill will never be as attractive because he only cares for himself.

    • lagomorph says:

Have you seen photos of William when he was younger though? I just looked him up and he was gorgeous. He just hasn’t aged well.

      • mer says:

Speaking as a lesbian, I found young William to be aesthetically pleasing. The change in William’s looks reminds me of his uncle Prince Edward. Prince Edward was gorgeous when he was younger, and then things started to go downhill.

  15. BabsORIG says:

SMH at these media idiots. My question is, has always been and will always be: what exactly has prince William, in his all 38 years, ever accomplished to make him “the run to clever good looking one” that prince Harry ran to?

Now let’s reverse that and substitute Harry name for William. I rest my case.

    • Betsy says:

William has been very, very clever about getting his way and about sharing work. I mean groundbreakingly so. I mean he really gives Onslow a run for his sloth.

  16. HK9 says:

Yet ANOTHER PR blunder. These guys are writing the book of what not to do aren’t they?

  17. Rogue says:

they kept saying Meghan needs to know she isn’t the star of the show, her and Harry are minor royals, she isn’t duchessing properly. So why this angst now they are stepping back? Why not focus on dazzling Duchess Kate who’s never put a foot wrong and kingly William?

    • Mich says:

The subtext seems to be that there is no Meghan.

    • Betsy says:

It tells the truth about the fact that they were relying on Harry and Meghan to do work, to light a fire under Kate’s competitive bum, and to be be the bus accident victims.

  18. Ash. says:

Eh, wouldn’t say William was so lazy he could only do Air ambulance work. He literally could not go do active duty in Afghanistan. Another part of being the heir and not the spare.

Also, I’m sure William told Harry to slow it down with Meghan. But I’m tired of people acting like that’s the sole reason the brothers are fighting. Sure, it must hurt to introduce your love to your family only for them to be like “are you sure??” But I’m positive once Harry started connecting the dots he realized that should have been his wake up call that the Palace would be up to shit which is why his camp is so fixated on that moment to bring up in stories.

    • hudson girl says:

Didn’t Prince Charles serve in the Navy (?) full-time until age 30 or something? Then he retired and that’s when he started The Prince’s Trust which he has worked on and built up for decades.
Why do people keep saying William COULDN’T serve. Of course he could- if he insisted- that’s what the spare is for. He was just too LAZY and weak. They would have kept him protected, for the most part. Always a risk of an incident or accident, though. William lacked the courage.

      • Ash. says:

he had all the credentials needed to go, all the flying hours etc. Both William and Harry talked about how badly William wanted to serve and shouldn’t have special privilege. this was back in 2011, when they still liked each other.

And I might be wrong, but I don’t think Charles served in an active combat zone, did he?

    • People who worked with William — especially in that second part time job said — he almost never showed up. That they had to double shift to cover him and — no — even they knew it wasn’t because of royal duties conflicts. They have said, he just didn’t feel like coming in and that was what angered so many of them. Double shifting on jobs like that put them and those they are trying to help at risk. They were glad when he finally quit. I find it interesting that a negative story will come out about William, but never gets picked up by the tabloids, and so the story dies a quick death. Someone in the Firm is earning there money to keep his bad press to a minimum.

  19. Toot says:

People were blinded by Will’s blond hair, he always had those horse teeth , so to me he was only attractive until he smiled. Then, nope!

Harry was the cuter kid and still is the better looking man. Luckily for Will, he has the position where people will blow smoke up his ass.

  20. Valiantly Varnished says:

I think we all know whose won in the looks department and it isn’t turtle-faced Will. Harry has grown into a ginger hottie DESPITE losing his hair. Will lost his hair and all of his good looks went with it.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

Michael over at Dlisted calls Harry ‘Prince Hot Ginge (PHG)’. His unrequited love/lust for Harry is highly entertaining.

      • jugebair says:

Digital Unicorn – Michael K’s love of PHG has made me LOL for years…true love!

      • Alexandria says:

Omg I forgot about PHG hahahah

      • Love that guy. I go to him for his absolutely keen ability to nail the story with his unbelievable biting, snarky sense of wit. To say nothing of his over the top crush on Prince Hot Ginge. His entry yesterday about how —- it must be Meghan’s friends commenting to PEOPLE because PEOPLE has already established that Harry has no friends —- was over the top snarky humor. 💃🏻

    • Amy Too says:

Turtle face made me think of Mitch McConnell and the comparison with William is apt.

  21. Kebbie says:

Lol Harry is hot, William isn’t. Harry is charming, William isn’t. Harry is likable, William isn’t. No amount of leaks to People is going to change those facts. It’s really sad to see the Cambridges try this hard.

  22. Alexandria says:

Now of course we can never know exactly who were part of this smear campaign. Nonetheless my top three suspects are the deadly combination of William, Carole Middleton and Andrew all adding their share of smear to the witches’ brew. William naturally is protected as the heir and likes having Harry around to support him whenever he liked it. Coast along within the same murky foundation of the Fab 4 without doing all the work. As for Carole, it’s too damn obvious that Meghan was the better speaker (go back to the interview with all 4 of them) and had fresher ideas. Meghan already had her humanitarian work and was a UN women’s advocate. It’s a bonus that she looks attractive too. Did Kate have her own charity / humanitarian work before her marriage? At least Pippa tried in some small way. There are multiple stories of Kate being possessive and competitive in school and unfortunately not much else. So too bad. Meghan made future Queen Kate look inferior and Carole Middleton activated her tabloid bedmates. Andrew of course can’t stand his daughters being even less popular so he added on to the smear campaigns. So I say it’s a combination of all 3 suspects, Archie coming into the picture to turn Harry and Meghan into Papa Mama Bear mode and then Charles and HM saying nothing about the abuse equals Adios you all don’t need us since you hate us, so let us go do our own thing.

Also since when is William clever?

    • kerwood says:

      I think you’re spot on.

Carole Middleton probably lost her mind when it became crystal clear that Harry and Meghan were WAY more popular than Normal Bill and Keen Katie. She kicked her smear campaign into high gear, aided and abetted by ‘courtiers’ and the Pork/Yorks.

One of the few upsides to this pathetic shitshow is that Carole is going to see her decades-in-the-making handiwork fall apart as her daughter and the dullard she’s married to become less and less popular when the British people (and the Commonwealth) realize that they’re stuck with ONLY those two.

    • Senator Fan says:

While I don’t disagree with your assessment I think Charles is in that mix as well. There’s many of stories throughout the years that he was jealous of his sons and their popularity. And we know he was definitely jealous of Diana and her popularity. The fact he didn’t try and intervene when his sons relationship started to sour and become what it is today speaks volumes to me. I think if he did try and intervene behind the scenes to try and repair his family’s growing tensions we might have a different outcome today. There were reports Charles was pissed when he was on his last tour that his sons were dominating the news.

  23. Originaltessa says:

Hate to say it, but the Windsor genes are gunning for Harry, and fast. Every year he’s looking worse and worse. They were both attractive teens and 20 somethings… and both declining rapidly in their 30’s.

    • swirlmamad says:

Stress can also take a toll. But decline or no, in the looks department I’d say Harry is on a slow descent while in comparison Will is in free fall.

    • harper says:

When Harry became an adult and really grew into his height, the Prince Philip genes hit. And Philip was a hottie when he was younger, plus he had a great smile and was very charming. Harry now takes after him a LOT (with the exception of catting around.)

      • Digital Unicorn says:

I agree – he’s just like Prince Philip at that age even with the beard.

        https://www.elle.com/culture/g22072707/prince-harry-prince-philip-look-a-like/

Prince Philip really was a hottie back in the day.

      • ArtHistorian says:

@Digital Unicorn After seeing that polo pic I totally get why Liz lusted after Philip back in the day. He was hot, though I don’t think that his personality matched his good looks.

      • Maria says:

I find pictures of young Philip stunning. And young Charles with a beard wasn’t bad either!

Funny how beards are on the Windsor men. The beards didn’t really work on Prince Philip or William, while they look great on Harry and Charles (well probably wouldn’t look so great now on Charles, but back in the day!)

      • notasugarhere says:

Beard works best on Prince Michael of Kent too. Makes him look like the Russian cousins and a younger George V.

      • Katherine says:

Prince Phillip was a freaking smoke show back in the day. Personality blah but just a visual? damn. And for awhile there was a generation or 2 of hot Royal dudes. George 5 and his cousin Tsar Nicholas looked alike and I think were pretty good looking (in that historical way lol). But man something went off course 20th century and beyond with those genes.

      • Suz says:

I stopped believing any part of the Prince Polo rumors when I started to notice how much Harry resembles his Grandpa Phil.

  24. Pineapple says:

You know what you do with relatives like William? You take your expectations WAY DOWN to zero. Then … if ever in his life, he does something decent and nice, it’s just a welcome surprise. Otherwise, be prepared for idiocy. I think Meghan and Harry know this.

  25. Ainsley7 says:

Like the article implies, this was a thing at one time and created a bad dynamic between them. William was not only better looking, for a time, but, more importantly, better protected from bad press. William didn’t get the same harassment when he was falling out of night clubs as Harry did. Charles made it clear that William was off limits to a degree. Harry was jealous. Why wouldn’t he be? William did all the things he did, but was seen as golden while he was crucified. William, meanwhile, was always jealous that Harry was better at most things like Polo, public speaking and such. Which, again, has to suck. (Not that he needs to be such a baby about it, but still) It’s why their relationship fell apart so easily. It was never that good and they have always thought the other one had it better/easier.

    • Noodle says:

@Ainsley, you make a good point about the environment in which these boys grew up. William is largely a product of his upbringing – spoilt, ill-tempered, and arrogant. He has been told all his life how special he is, and he believes it. While he is responsible for his behaviors now, raising two children, one golden and one… not, is such a toxic and ghastly parenting strategy. Seeing this and being somewhat powerless to change it (at least as he was regarded by the BRF) I believe Diana invested in Harry a lot, helping him emerge from his brother’s shadow to become what he is today – a better man.

I am a mom of three and seeing this Cain and Abel narrative playing out reminds me to value each of my children for who they are, careful not to compare or set them against each other. I can’t imagine parenting them with the same soul-destroying rancor as the BRF.

      • ArtHistorian says:

This is why a family dynamic that is embedded in a rigid system of rank can really mess people up. I think this must be an issue in most royal families but it has become incredibly toxic in the BRF because the Windsors have been emotionally stunted people for centuries.

    • Becks1 says:

@Ainsley – I actually agree with that. I can believe that Harry was jealous of William – not because William is going to be king, but because William has always been more protected in the press. Harry’s Nazi costume got a lot of bad press (as it should have), but didn’t William also wear a racist costume that night? I feel like I have seen that in various sources, but it didn’t get the attention Harry did. I know that’s not the best example bc Harry SHOULD have gotten dragged in the press for that, but it shows how they can make similar mistakes and one gets dragged for it and the other is brushed aside. In any family that dynamic would be off putting.

I think though William became jealous as Harry got older and became more and more popular, and more and more “successful” as a royal with his causes and charities. And William had the power to lash out.

      • Ainsley7 says:

@Becks I’m not sure what William was wearing, but the story was always that he told Harry the costume would be ok and felt guilty about it because it was equally his fault. Which implies that maybe Harry did have some misgivings about it and asked him or something.

William has always been a little jealous of Harry. The only thing William has ever been better at than Harry is academics and that’s mainly because Harry had undiagnosed dyslexia. Harry has had to put up with people labeling him negatively his whole life. They labeled him dumb and rebellious rather than diagnosing his learning disability! So, William doesn’t even have that over Harry anymore. Funnily enough, Harry is probably better at a lot of things because he had to try and learned how to work for what he wanted. Everything was handed to William and it really set him up to fail. He’s an adult and responsible for his actions, but he’s still living in the same echo chamber that created the problem. So, he’s unlikely to ever really understand the problem.

      • notasugarhere says:

As per the shop keeper, William went as a Zulu warrior. The press described it as ‘a lion costume’. There is one pic running around of him in it, with black tights, and it is NOT a lion costume.

    • Madi says:

Ainsley, this is a very thoughtful post. Thank you. I agree.

Having watched The Crown, I honestly feel for all of them. We can look from the outside at all the money and privilege they were born into and feel envious of that. However, seeing the Queen portrayed and how she has given so much of her life to her role, at the expense of relationships, and trying to balance that, it’s not an enviable job. While Harry was probably envious at one point, I think that he is greatly relieved now to have some semblance of freedom to make his own choices.

I wonder how moving to Canada will play out. I understand Meghan’s reasoning for not wanting to stay in Britain, where she has been mistreated and a place that is not home. But, it is Harry’s home. I wonder if he won’t feel resentment in the future at having been relocated to a new country, missing home, much like Meghan has. I really hope that it all works out for them. I love them together and I think they are just the most dynamic couple!

      • ArtHistorian says:

While The Crown is fiction, I do think that being the Sovereign was harder for a woman of QEII’s generation, especially in relation to her role as a mother. QMII of Denmark who is 15 years younger than QEII has spoken publicly about how she hasn’t always been as good a mother as she could have been – and her sons have spoken about that sometimes there was a distance, that their childhood was perhaps not always as warm as Margrethe’s own childhood had been – and they’ve all pointed to Margrethe having been the monarch at a fairly young age (she became queen at 32, Liz at 25), while her children were quite young as a factor in this. So I think in these cases we do have to factor in gender, especially because there are a lot of cultural expectations on motherhood in terms of nurture, etc., that just aren’t there for men, especially at the mid-20th century.

    • kerwood says:

I don’t think Harry was REALLY jealous of William. He’s never wanted to be king, so why would he be. William was the first-born but Harry was the BABY. He was probably spoiled rotten by the Queen and the Queen Mum, which explains some of his youthful ‘antics’.

I think William has always resented that Harry was able to get away with shit that William could never even DREAM of doing. Like marry a beautiful, intelligent, sexy, divorced, American, bi-racial woman.

      • BabsORIG says:

@Kerwood, I remember a docu where Ken Wharf said that Harry hated going to his granny’s or to the queen mom’s because whenever they went there, the adults would totally ignore him and “fuss over William”. It was said that was one of the reasons Diana said she made sure to make Harry be and feel loved because the BRF treated him differently than William. So I believe Harry has been treated as a lesser human all his life, except by his mother.

      • ArtHistorian says:

That is just a perfect example of how damaging a the rigid royal hierarchy can be when people allow it to guide how they interact with their own family. As an outsider it is insane that people would treat two children in their family so differently based on birth order – but that was probably completely “normal” to the Windsors. Sometimes you really need an outsider to point out a toxic and damaging family dynamic.

      • BabsORIG says:

Yeah the BRF is working overtime to rewrite Harry’s history and try to make it like “he’s leaving his family because big bad Meghan made him”. Its a lie a lot of people, even many on this site, are falling for. some people be like Harry woes with William started when William cautioned Harry about Meghan etc. Uhm no, no they didn’t actually. Harry has seen how he’s been mistreated all his life, how he’s made to be and feel inferior to William, even though he is the smarter of the two, how the queen and the queen mum, and sometimes his father (it was reported that when Harry was born, prince Charles couldn’t hide his disdain for Harry having been born a boy since he wanted a girl, so he wanted nothing to do with him as a baby. It seems he came around later, but I’m sure Harry knows that his father didn’t want him in the beginning), ignored him and fussed over William, how he was forced to leave his job, a job he was very good at and enjoyed immensely, to come back and fullfil his “lifelong duty to support my brother” he decided enough was enough, he wasn’t gonna take the abuse any more. I believe when his wife came along, she gave him the courage he needed to take the leap and together, they flew and soared and I believe he loves that feeling of being free from the BRF chokehold. So I don’t think Harry is jealous of William in any way, if anything he probably feels sorry for him.

      • kerwood says:

@BabsORIG, my understanding was that Harry was the Queen Mum’s favourite and is a favourite of the Queen as well. Harry might have had to defer to William, but he was probably better liked. William wouldn’t be behaving the way he is if Harry had always been second-best.

      • BabsORIG says:

@Kerwood, I really don’t know much about the “Harry was favorite” part but that he was ignored and William fussed over and him coming home and telling his mother was reported in one of the numerous interviews about Diana. Ken also stated that Diana attempted to reason with the queen mum but that her pleas fell on deaf ears. Harry’s being treated differently might have changed with Diana’s death, I don’t know, but he sure was not treated well by the BRF when his mother was alive.

      • morrigan01 says:

        @kerwood

There is a well known story of the Queen Mum once signing out William to come and sit with ehr and compelty ignoring Harry. So I don’t know if he was the Queen Mum’s favorite, but she DID leave Harry her jewelry or something in her will, so it was probably a bit more complicated that either favoriting or not. But William did get a lot of preferential treatment because of his position as future king over Harry.

    • February Pisces says:

Charles protected William because he needed William to be respected and popular to some extent. People are still pissed at Charles over Diana and if people started to get frustrated at williams actions, then they might as well get rid of the whole monarchy altogether after the queen. If people are somewhat hopeful for williams reign then that secures Charles time on the throne first. But williams facade has slipped no matter how much the British media embiggen him.

  26. RoyalBlue says:

Such a nasty and demeaning piece of writing calling him the also-ran and saying he was meant to be shoulder to shoulder but at the same time pick up the stuff William wasn’t good for. People magazine have really gone down the drain.

    • swirlmamad says:

I’m confused by the tone of all these recent People articles. I thought they were in the Sussexes’ corner, but it certainly doesn’t seem like it in recent months…

      • Beach Dreams says:

It might be confusing because People changed editors shortly after the piece by Meghan’s friends. The new editor is British and has some interesting work history: started off working for a Murdoch company, worked on a British gossip mag called Heat, led In-Touch’s team for a while, and eventually joined People as deputy editor. I think that change in editor is strongly reflected in the changes on how People reports on the royals.

      • swirlmamad says:

Beach Dreams, thanks for that info. Definitely brings a lot of clarity!

      • BabsORIG says:

Aaahhhh, well, well @Beach Dreams, thanks for clarifying that for us. I myself was very confused at the about turn in the writing, now that’s clearer. Thank you.

    • Why would any mentally healthy sibling in Harry’s position agree to spending his life coin supporting and working for a brother who has actively worked to destroy his wife, his marriage, and put his child and wife in harms way from the rabid crazies? Oh, I know who would think that: William and the rest of the Firm.

  27. Sarah says:

Oh wow. I had to pick myself up from rolling around on the floor laughing to comment on this. Who on earth are the Cambridge’s paying to come up with this nonsense? Good grief.

  28. Ames says:

    Really?

Uhhhhh… just go ahead and put me down for a big ol’ nope on that one.

  29. Brooke says:

I kinda buy this a little. Like you said, for a long time William was the hot one. He was going to be king and Harry would always be the spare. I think there was a time when he was probably jealous of all the attention his brother was getting. I have a similar dynamic in my own family. My oldest sister was the “perfect” one. She was always the prettiest, smartest and adored by everyone. I was the one who caused trouble. My parents often said if I had been the first there never would have been anymore kids. I know they loved me, too. It was still hard to live in that shadow.

Eventually, you stop trying and I think that was a little bit of Harry’s rebellion in his early years. It took a while for me to realize that I didn’t have to compete with my sisters and I was just fine as I am and being myself. I think Meghan did that for Harry. He finally wasn’t the spare or the helpless third wheel. William probably didn’t like that.

  30. Bookworm says:

William looks like a giant thumb. Harry might be losing some of the hot now that he’s older. Charles never had the hot. Eww.

The new generation might keep the looks since the Windsor genes will have been diluted by another round of fresh ones.

  31. Sonia says:

I really want whoever is dressing Kate to be fired. She needs to steal Meghan’s person…ality and stop with the polka dots and god-awful pointed collars.

Oh-team whoever will write the best tell-all book!

    • Kebbie says:

Really? I find Meghan’s style completely hit or miss. Usually miss. All those big coats where she’s drowning in fabric. And those belts…she’s had a few great looks though. She does casual looks really well. Kate has a different style, but her clothes are always impeccably tailored. You’ll have to pry those polka dots and buttons from her cold dead hands though.

      • carmen says:

i think Meghan can pull off pretty much every thing she wears because she has such great posture and carries herself so well. Regardless, I think her clothes are secondary to all the good work she has done and the genuine interest she has in helping others.

Kate’s work ethic is lacking and she doesn’t come across as being really, sincerely interested in her work or motivated. Explains why all the posts generate comments about her outfits – what else is there to talk about lol.

    • Victoria says:

Those pussy bows have got to go! She’s not that old.

  32. Jen says:

I think this is one of those stories that has a grain of truth but is exaggerated. I think growing up knowing that you were basically subservient to your brother and the stage where he was known as the good looking one would lead to some feelings. I also think the work thing is complicated by Harry having to leave the army to do royal duties that William was shirking. But the tone of the article is off, to me.

  33. Eeeeeeetrain says:

I’ve never understood this stealing thunder business. It’s four people on a global stage. Isn’t there enough thunder to go around? ESP when you then constantly harp about privacy and ‘normal’ lives? SMH.

    • harper says:

No apparently there’s isn’t enough thunder. LOL

Wills seems to be taking after Charles, who is ferociously jealous of what privileges he has.

There was a story in one of the many royal docs on British TV about how on one of the visits to Balmoral, Edward found a kilt with a cool pattern so he wore it. It was in the pattern of the Duke of Rothesay, though, which is only allowed to be worn by the Prince of Wales. Chaz had a fit: “That’s MY kilt! Only I’M allowed to wear that pattern!” So Edward just said, OK, and went back up to change.

And of course all the stories about how Charles was so jealous about the attention Diana received, especially out on visits where people wouldn’t want to shake HIS hand, but rather Diana’s.

It looks like Wills has gotten a dose of that jealousy.

  34. Jodi says:

lets just be really clear: William was never the better looking brother and he certainly isn’t now with what we know of his ego and personality. you know what is attractive, protecting your wife and child from bullying and abuse and drawing lines in the sand with toxic family. THATS what’s attractive.

    • Kebbie says:

Purely speaking on their physical looks, I think he had a few years when Harry was still growing into his looks and height that he looked better. Once Harry hit 20-21 and joined the military, he became the hotter brother. Then he grew a beard and it was over.

But Harry is the better man, hands down.

    • Yes. Hair or no hair, Harry’s my man.

  35. Goldengirlslover34 says:

Lololool a mess of an article. This is as fictional as that time when People thought Blake Shelton was the most beautiful man alive when Jason Momoa, Idris Elba and countless others were alive and well. In the past William was considered the attractive one bc he looked just like his mom but it’s been quite a while. So long ago that I forget. Both are men in their 30s. Both of their looks have changed. It happens.

  36. RoyalBlue says:

Come on! Harry has the moves and can dance. Will does his jokey dad dance.

    Case closed.

  37. Nic919 says:

Penny “coloured people” Junor needs to take all the seats forever.

  38. Ames says:

Once upon a time, being the popular “spare” made you a threat to the sitting monarch. The world has changed, but I think that royal “eyes on the prize” power-grabby mindset endures.

Not that I’m saying William is gonna demand Harry’s head on a pike any time soon… Probably.

But William has essentially been groomed to regard his own brother as an existential threat (as was Charles before him). I thought he’d lighten up after producing heirs of his own, but he’s gotten worse. You can tell William is really leaning into that whole anointed-by-God-himself thing. Hard.

  39. On purely physical appearance, I personally find William more attractive, I don’t mind bald heads but I’d want some sun exposure on that ghostly skin. 🤷‍♀️

  40. line says:

The only Windsor who was really handsome was Prince William of Gloucester. Princess Margaret and the Duke de Windsor were handsome in their youth, but the Windsor genes quickly caught up them.

  41. JulieCarr says:

I mean, it was a thing in their formative years, and would have been again one day.

There was a time when Andrew was viewed as a vastly better option than Charles. He was seen as more attractive, friendlier, charming and confident, and people bought into him as a military leader. Then Charles son’s grew up, and almost instantly no one gave a damn about Andrew anymore. That’s how it works, people only care about the spares up until there’s a new lot of heirs and spares to focus on. Harry’s the popular prince now, but when the Cambridge kids were grown all that attention and adoration would have shifted their way.

    • carmen says:

“Then the Windsor genes hit William like a ton of bricks” That line in the intro made me spit out my coffee lol. Definitely applies to Andrew as well.

      • Eugh says:

I think the worst hit of all time (along with William) is Prince Edward. Those genes are ruthless and take no prisoners

    • Alexandria says:

Only difference is Harry will probably handle the kids taking the attention away from him better than William.

  42. Deanne says:

Good looking and clever? Hahaha. William was nice looking in his late teens and early 20’s, but those days are long over. Being told that you are literally God’s gift to the world has obviously boosted his ego. It’s not nice to insult a person’s looks, but since Will is apparently so confident in his superiority to his brother, I’ll make an exception. The clever thing is hilarious on so many levels. He comes across as a complete and utter dullard and bore. Harry is definitely the more attractive brother in both looks and personality. He’s so natural with people and his deep affection for his wife is obvious. This PR campaign by the Cambridges is doing nothing helpful. The Royal Family have been exposed yet again, as the cruel den of snakes that they are. No amount of gushing People cover stories about Will and Kate will be enough to erase the fact that Harry was pushed to the point that he felt he had to get himself, his wife and child, away from this toxic group of a-holes masquerading as a family.

  43. Harla says:

Quick question, why isn’t Kate the one that William will lean on once he’s King? I thought one’s spouse is supposed to be the one supporting them? I mean it’s great if your sibling is supportive as well but at the end of the day isn’t your spouse supposed to be the one you lean on the most?

  44. MeghanNotMarkle says:

Aaaaaahahahaha. Hahahahaha. Ha. I may have just peed myself a little. This is great.

  45. Mignionette says:

When you contrast the picture at Chucks’s 70th birthday to the one with the heirs at Christmas on Lilibet’s table, it’s clear that some PR genius really flucked this up.

This and Andy’s interview will go down and the true PR non-de-coups of the BRF.

They are truly flucked and will find it increasingly difficult to justify their existence as UK figureheads. Whilst it is clear that the UK is endemically racist, it is a horrible indictment on the UK when the only two POC within the RF do not feel comfortable living in the UK.

  46. incognito08 says:

I don’t understand why these mags consider Penny Junor a creditable source when she hasn’t spoken to Harry in over 3 years. If I am not mistaken, this tidbit of information was revealed during her recent interview with Gayle King. I am so glad that Gayle and her colleague took her to task and exposed her ignorance, racist behind!

  47. L84Tea says:

This is just laughable and goes as far back as Will and Kate’s wedding. Harry was the one who looked hot as hell at that wedding, not Will. And Harry has only gotten better looking with age. Not to mention a man who protects his wife and child is always sexy in my book.

  48. KellyRyan says:

Looking forward to Archie’s book. People wasn’t on M&H’s list of publications they’ll do business with, not surprised. Thank you to those who recommended the BuzzFeed articles. They were excellent and written by a woman who lives between Halifax and Brooklyn, NY.

  49. kerwood says:

This is really pathetic. One of the major reveals of this whole sorry situation is how frighteningly insecure and pathetic Normal Bill is. It’s not enough for him that he’s the first born, the man who will be king. Normal Bill has to be the smartest, tallest, BEST-LOOKING EVER. How sad.

The party line has been how much Harry resents his older brother. But these stories are making it crystal clear just how much William HATES Harry. It’s pretty scary. Harry has publicly said that he loves his brother and always will. William has yet to say the same thing.

Hey England. How do you like your future king?

  50. February Pisces says:

William hasn’t been the ‘hot one’ since 2001. His looks hit the skids in his early twenties, whilst harry blossomed. I can’t imagine anyone thinks of William as ‘hot’. Kate also apparently has a ‘new found confidence’ and a ‘dazzle’. I also remember the Sun recently ran a story about how she was bullied at school for ‘being too perfect’ and ‘all the boys wanted her’ lol. It seems William and Kate are really insecure within themselves to be pushing these stories. They really think of the media calls them the ‘good looking’ ‘hot’ ‘desirable’ ones it will somehow become true. They are forgetting most people have their eyesight.

  51. Dizzy says:

Harry is about to be hit by those Windsor genes. Nobody escapes them, as relentless as the Trump genes.

  52. Ann says:

We used to refer to Archie as “Polo Baby” for obvious reasons . . . this does not require explanation.

  53. MellyMel says:

Bwahaha okay!! Who did they pay to write this nonsense?

  54. MA says:

I’m more offended by the assertion that William is clever.

  55. Sandra says:

Bill waited eight years to make sure Cathy was the right one to sip milkshakes or Guinness with for photo ops. Phew. That was a close one.

  56. Lila says:

Bwahahahaha! I remember when William was the hot one. Except I was in middle school/high school…and I’m 35 now. William hasn’t been the hot one for ages. And frankly, Harry has always had the charisma/compassion/drive.

  57. Shiloh says:

Can’t believe all the women here calling Harry “hot”. Objectively, he’s tall and has a nice build and that’s it. His face is fine but not handsome. His hair situation is tragic. The Windsor stick wacked both brothers hard. William looks better when he has stubble and wears glasses.

    • February Pisces says:

There’s just something about harry that makes him kinda sexy. I just think he has a certain charm to him that makes him very attractive.

    • kelleybelle says:

And I on the other hand can’t believe William is being called clever. lol Right.

      • February Pisces says:

Yep, the fact he’s nearly 40 years old and still bragging about his high school grades (which weren’t even that great) goes to show how little he’s actually achieved in his life.

    • Jaded says:

It’s not Harry’s looks per se, it’s his personality. It shines through. He’s compassionate, caring, he connects with people the way his mother did. He adores his wife and child and is protecting them like a mama bear. That’s what makes a man attractive in my books. I’ve had relationships with some incredibly handsome men in my time but they became ugly once I got to know them well.

  58. Paige says:

People Mag is not part of the “Cartel”. It’s really interesting to see the negativity transfer over to the US already.

  59. Mego says:

People Magazine aka Friend of Carole Middleton.

  60. Lizzie says:

Is Bill standing on Georges box in the pic from Charles birthday? Is he taller than Harry? He and Cathy were pretty similar in height going to church side by side (shoulder to shoulder LOL) last week. Photoshop?

Recognizing unequal treatment is not the same thing as jealousy. Harry was always a cute kid.

    • olive says:

william is a little bit taller than harry, like 2 inches. kate was probably wearing high heels maybe with a platform too.

  61. Mrs.Krabapple says:

William doesnt want to work. How on earth could he “work with” Harry? I had the same comment about story of Charles wanting to “work with both his sons” — how would he do that when one of his sons doesnt want to work?

  62. Sass says:

When I was growing up, William was slightly older than me and Harry was only three months younger. I didn’t really see what everyone saw in William and I had already developed a “thing” for gingers but also thinking Harry was “too young” for me. As an adult, yes William was definitely good looking in his late teens and early twenties and that was a stupid thing to think about Harry, who has always been the better looking brother. And yes he did a lot of stupid shit but it seems at some point he got a dose of reality after one too many shenanigans and straightened up. So not only is he better looking – he’s the better man.

  63. Angela82 says:

Sorry but both Harry and Meghan are far better looking than William and Kate IMHO. William hasn’t been hot since his early 20s (maybe even before) and Kate is blah to me, although I know a lot of men who think she’s gorgeous.

  64. Nic919 says:

The only appropriate response to the article is “ok, boomer”.

  65. aquarius64 says:

I don’t get this fear that William has of Harry. Bill acts like he fears the Sussexes will have a rival court and there will be calls for Harry to be crowned king. Although the thought of King Henry (Harry) and Queen Consort Meghan would set the world on fire, they obviously want peace of mind and a happy family unit more. Forget People. CNN is doing a special on the BRF called the Windsors on February 16. It’s a six part series CNN has already taken a whack at the royals since Sussexit; it shouldbe interesting. CNN also did a series on the Kennedys and it didn’t pull punches on America’s “royalty”.

    • Senator Fan says:

Oh good to know I’ll look forward to watching it.

    • kerwood says:

@aquarius54, I think William fears that if the British people were asked (or had to vote) they would pick Harry and Meghan to be future King and Queen Consort. Normal Bill and Keen Katie are part and parcel of England’s past. Harry and Meghan were a move toward the future. Unfortunately, the royal family is afraid of the future, probably because they don’t see a place for themselves in it.

    • Deering24 says:

Aquarius54, the BRF are raised to be at war with each other in some form or another. In the past, the battle was over territory, royal succession, and who chopped whose head off first. Now it’s about good press and public opinion. Doesn’t mean it’s any less savage…or that from the BRF’s POV, the stakes are less. 🙂

  66. Marie says:

I remember watching Harry and William walk into the wedding (Harry’s) and I noticed how Harry had a strut to his walk and I thought it was so hot lol. William looked like a dork but Harry’s walk was hot. It is how he carries himself. He has a wonderful personality and charm. He has confidence. He is a military man and is a wonderful husband and father. THAT is what makes him hot. Plus, I think he has a nice body.

  67. qtpi says:

At one time Will was the cuter bro. But that has totally flipped. And some of it is down to personality. Harry absolutely shines and you can tell he is genuine. I watched him draw teams for his appearance yesterday and he managed to do cute stuff there too which was very charming.

  68. Catting says:

LMFAO. I try not to be TOO petty, but this is some 1984 shit. Believe what People says, not what your own eyeballs tell you, I guess. People trying to play both camps too; the only one who wins is them.

  69. paddingtonjr says:

Hahaha….William might have been a cutie back in the day, but clever? When has anyone described him as clever? Harry has definitely gotten better-looking in the past few years; there’s nothing sexier than a confident man with a great smile, except maybe a confident man with a great smile who is madly in love with his wife and child.

  70. Nikki* says:

    I snorted. That’s a pretty funny take.

  71. Dal says:

Harry seems to be the laid back chill one and yes better looking as he ages !

  72. blunt talker says:

Someone mentioned William is a clone for Stephen Miller who works for Trump-is spot on they could be brothers. Harry will always be the punching bag for the heirs. I read story about Queen Liz’s mother would come into the nursery where both boys were-take William with her and give him special attention and treats. She would leave Harry in the nursery playing by himself. Now everyone should understand the direct heirs to the throne will always shit on the lower ranking members of the family-all spares, cousins, etc.

  73. Eugh says:

Normal Bill’s relationship with the press and how un-savvy he is is just so head scratching.

Topic adjacent but Dan Wootton is so deplorable, there is a special on CBC on the Sussexes and the media coverage, and they interview him at the Sun and ask him how far is too far when it comes to headlines. He says, “what is wrong with any of these headlines?”…..”we bow down to no one.”

    Princess Pushy
Touchy Feely Meghan (touching her bump)
Wedding of the Rears (one where she is in yoga pants)

  74. Tpoe says:

In what universe is William the good looking one?

Anyway what really gets me about this is how the one who would be king is the jealous and insecure one. I mean, how pathetic do you have to be to know that you will be King and still be worried about being overshadowed?

    • ArtHistorian says:

So was/is Charles. I do think Charles has a number of good qualities but his insecurity and fear of being overshadowed is pathetic – especially since all royal men are overshadowed by their wives in the press. There’s just a greater interest in the wives and the children.

While it is pathetic that they are so insecure, it is also a sign of emotional damage because that insecurity doesn’t come from nothing. When it comes to Charles, I think that the family dynamic has played a very big part. He might be the heir but his parents had other favorites and he has talked about having a difficult relationship with his father. Parents playing favorites with their children is hugely damaging, then add that the Windsors generally are cold and QEII isn’t exactly know for giving her children a warm upbringing.

    • L4frimaire says:

This is what I don’t get about this whole drama and backbiting. So what if Harry and Meghan are popular and actually work hard. William will be king, get the bulk of the fortune, lands, estate. He would be on the postage stamps and money. No one was exactly pushing him to do more or expect Kate and her sacred womb to be a champion of women. He is there to be a figurehead, that’s it. Did they really expect the Sussexes, based on what they’ve done so far, to step back and do the equivalent of the work of a semi retired dowager. Cutting ribbons and shaking hands. That would be ridiculous for anyone who in the real world is at their peak earning power, and not using all they have to offer. They wanted to use a more dynamic model and it was benefiting the country and monarchy. However, you cannot treat people the way they were treated in the press and within the family and expect them to keep producing for you. I hope Harry and Meghan hit the ground running once he’s back with her, make a big push to establish their foundation, make money, and do what they have to do to. The press is crazy right now but distance, and time zones will eventually dampen it. In some ways it was best to remove themselves and step back from it all.

  75. Val says:

I think Kate must have guest wrote this piece . Lol

  76. Zut alors says:

In that second pic with his head in profile, William looks like Mr Burns from the Simpsons.

  77. Seraphina says:

Got here late and forgive me if anyone has stated this and I’m pretty sure they have but I will repeat it:

Their own MOTHER stated that William was not as good a fit for the crown as Harry was. She recognized what was needed: charisma, empathy and a good head on your shoulders and she knew William did not have these qualities as much as Henry. Mothers know their children. And I’ll leave it at that.

  78. Well-Wisher says:

Prince Harry is indeed a brave man. I wish him and his family great success and most importantly a fulfilled life. Remember, “your life and story is unique, so make the most of it.”

Today has to be a day of celebration. You will face challenges but remember you are strong and brave to show your vulnerability.

Remember as the Duchess of Sussex once said “You are enough. ”
I will miss the positive updates but it is better that you can return to the point of self actualization and you wife can regain her self confidence.

Godspeed in your new endeavours. God Bless.

  79. Well-Wisher says:

This is an attempt to clean up , but the brooms and mops are also dirty.

Prince Charles will be the last monarch to enjoy the position as Head of state of the Commonwealth wealth of nations.

  80. Alexandria says:

Both of them are brave. All the very best Duke and Duchess of Sussex you remain as HRH for some people and I hope you will continue the good work for your charities and dear causes. Stay safe and happy and contented, I am rooting for you!!!

    • betsyh says:

Me too! Still, I feel somewhat sad that they are no longer working royals, and I am not even sure why I feel this way. They are probably relieved.

    • MeghanNotMarkle says:

I feel sad to lose TRH but that’s just selfishness on my part. This is the best decision for their family and I support them 110%. I’m so glad they made a full break and aren’t going to try to live with one foot in each life.

  81. Skippy says:

What? I thought Harry was always more popular that William. I thought Harry was the fun guy and William was dull. Oh well. What do I know?

  82. Liban says:

Well i think that william is more handsome than harry, after all looks are subjective. Be a bit respectful for others opinions

  83. whybother says:

    lmao
will hasn’t been the hot ones for ages. I remembered because we are close in age. he was hot on his teenage years and starts losing it when he hit 20’s and losing it all in mid-’20s.. that’s more than a decade ago
get over it will, you lost your pretty long time ago
    lol

  84. yinyang says:
