Michelle Williams hasn’t taken a job since ‘Fosse/Verdon’ & won’t work in 2020

SAG Awards Arrivals 2019

Michelle Williams and Thomas Kail have attended the Golden Globes and SAG Awards with each other. And we still don’t really know if Kail is divorced yet? He was married when he started up with Michelle last year, although no one really knows when and how it happened, jut that Michelle and Kail worked together on Fosse/Verdon. Her marriage fell apart in spring 2019. I assume his did too, but who knows. Michelle is already in the second trimester of her pregnancy, and we’ve heard that she hopes to marry Kail before the baby comes as well. Not only that, she plans to take a bunch of time off aka maternity leave.

Taking a step back! Michelle Williams hasn’t accepted any 2020 acting roles ahead of her and Thomas Kail’s baby’s arrival.

“I haven’t taken a job since [Fosse/Verdon.] I have something else I have to go do,” the pregnant actress, 39, told Us Weekly and other reporters while touching her baby bump at the 2020 Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday, January 19. “I’ll be home, but it’s a hard act to follow.”

The Dawson’s Creek alum, who won the SAG Award for Female Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series on Sunday for her role as Gwen Verdon in the FX show, opened up about the “challenging” project. “I’ve never played somebody that age before of someone from 30 to 64,” the Montana native explained. “There was singing, dancing. It was such a feast and knowing where to go from here, I feel a little bit stuck. Like, I want that job again. Like, Gwen in her 60s or something. I miss it.”

I know this is about maternity leave and we’re supposed to be like “Michelle won’t be in front of a camera for two years!” But I can’t help but think that every project she’s been offered since Fosse/Verdon is probably a big downer. She really did have so much to DO in that miniseries and now what? She’s supposed to audition to play “the girlfriend” of a superhero who is in the movie for only 10 minutes? No. So of course she’s taking a break, because she’s not going to get another role like Gwen Verdon for some time. And because of the baby.

Michelle has worked pretty much non-stop for years. She deserves a bit of a break. Though I wouldn’t call taking care of a newborn a break!

  2. marmalazed says:

Girl had some work done! Also, it seems like a slight to still refer to her as the “Dawson’s Creek alum.” Does anyone still refer to George Clooney as the “ER alum” or Amy Poehler as the “Parks & Rec” alum?

    • smcollins says:

Right? She’s an accomplished, Oscar-nominated, award-winning actress, no need to continue tying her to a tv show that ended almost 20 years ago (there’s nothing wrong with having that on her resume but she’s done so much more since then). I’ve got nothing as far as her having any work done. She looks the same, albeit more nature, to me. 🤷🏻‍♀️

    • Jillybean says:

George clooney is Facts of Life alum -Amy poehler is SNL alum. God I’m old!🤣

  3. klements says:

Michelle, to me, always looks like she is not all that interested in Thomas Kail. I think she wanted a baby more than she wants a partner.

    • LindaS says:

      1-2-3 divorce again soon.

    • holly hobby says:

Especially those pictures here where it looks like she’s sucking on a big lemon.

    • AFB says:

Not sure about that, but their expressions are so radically different, it looks like he’s photobombing his own picture 😉

    • Magical Kactus says:

This is exactly what I’ve noticed…she never looks as into him as he does to her. I mean he probably feels he’s scored the ultimate ‘upgrade’ & is proud of it…she seems like she’s bothered that he’s not in her league so to speak. He isn’t ugly but he is not that attractive. I bet the creative environment & energy made her feel/think this would be good but I’m sensing some lowkey regret that it’s him. I do think she wants another baby. I actually don’t think they’ll get married. They’ll inevitably break up. Now that the whole on set energy & sneak around is over, reality hits. The more time passes, esp out of the spotlight, she’ll become increasingly bothered by how ‘our of her league’ he is & that ‘magic’ that sizzled or whatever the eff is now long gone, it’s like the Arrested Development “…what have I done?”
Anyway, messy. When you don’t care if an intentional action you do hurts others, then you’re not worth it…..

  4. Veronica S. says:

Ah, the privilege of not being able to work for years at a time and afford a child. Must be nice.

    • Charfromdarock says:

In Canada, you can have up to 18 months paid maternity/parental leave.

      • Lena says:

I think every country has paid maternity leave except the US. Here it is a privilege of the independently wealthy.

      • Veronica S. says:

Yes, and that would indeed be an immense privilege compared to the United States where there is no federally mandated parental leave that must be paid and where no universal health insurance exists.

And where people like Michelle Williams just received a massive tax break on their million dollar earnings.

      • Starkille says:

Who cares? She’s not Canadian and doesn’t live in Canada, so why the need for your smug comment?

  5. Ctgirl says:

She’s a good actress but damn, her personal life is just messy. Is she still married? Was she still married when she conceived Kail’s baby? Is he still married? Again, just messy.

  6. dothedougie says:

Who’s got time to work when you are too busy getting engaged, married, then divorced every 6-12 months? MW is just a more first-class Pamela Anderson.

  7. AFB says:

The echoes of Fosse/Verdon and Kail/Williams… meeting under less than ideal circumstances, falling in love over the Work and the Art, him giving her the best role(s)… it’s so on the nose, right? I wouldn’t be surprised if her next part is another collaboration with her fiance…

  8. Jillybean says:

That’s not a smug comment about mat leave in Canada….it’s an option we have… but mind you, it’s a measly pay check for “paid mat leave” you need to have a partner getting full wages or you don’t have enough money to stay off for that long 18 months…your looking living off of approximately 550$ Canadian very 2 weeks… that’s living off 395$ usd every two weeks…..

There’s nothing smug about the maternity leave in Canada

  9. Soupie says:

Oh, she looks awesome here! Great styling and dress! As for him, weird. Stupid expression, I guess they click. That’s all the matters. Her expression makes me wonder though, unless she was going for a particular mood which I can see since the makeup, hair and dress are pretty retro and dramatic (but not overly so).

I didn’t know that Canada has 18 month maternity leave. It would have worked for me since the ex had a good job at the time. Damn.

  10. Jessie says:

    Must be nice

  11. Ferdinand says:

What!? I’m sorry but she was filming Venom 2 a couple of months ago. So that whole “not working since the miniseries” does not add up.

  12. Pandakeeper says:

Just a thought, but it that her personal life is messy because she has not got past Heath Ledger dying.
