Thursday morning, the news broke: Lena Waithe and her wife Alana Mayo were separating. It was notable because… Lena and Alana only got married about five months back – Lena confirmed the (August) marriage in November during an appearance on The Ellen Show, and Lena said they went to San Francisco and got married “right in front of Harvey Milk’s bust” (Milk being the assassinated gay-rights activist). They had been engaged since 2017, and the whirlwind wedding seemed like a spur-of-the-moment thing. Still, they’d been together for years. Lena and Alana released a joint statement announcing their split, saying: “After careful thought and consideration, we have decided to part way. We have nothing but support for one another and ask that you respect our privacy during this time.” Of course I thought something shady was happening. And according to Love B. Scott, some sh-t definitely went down:
While their split seemed sudden to most, sources exclusively tell lovebscott.com that their relationship was on the rocks even before they tied the knot.
Well, according to our sources — the quickie wedding came after multiple instances of Lena’s infidelity. Lena went along with it as a way to placate Alana and salvage their relationship.
Despite their official union, Lena’s alleged cheating continued: “Even after they married, Lena was still buying designer gifts — Chanel, Gucci — for other women.”
Yikes. We’ll just say this — to end a marriage within two months of making it public after being together for three years, Alana someone had to have been completely fed up.
As I was looking through our photos of Lena, I noticed something odd too – Lena and Alana weren’t attending events together throughout the fall. In fact, they last time – according to my photo searches?? – they were together on a red carpet was at the 2019 Golden Globes. It’s notable because Lena did attend A LOT of events last year, and many of those events would have been fine for her to bring a girlfriend or wife. But she was either riding solo or attending stuff with friends. Hm. So…yeah. I’ll buy that Lena and Alana were having problems and maybe the halfway-elopement was an attempt to put a bandaid on larger problems. But is Lena a serial cheater? Huh.

I watched David Chang’s breakfast lunch and dinner episode with her and she came off as unlikable to me. And this was after I had Followed her and her work and enjoyed it- just was the first time i had seen so much of her the person not her the work and I was a little disappointed.
IMO, Lena’s been super suspect since all that drama with The Chi came out.

Definitely a band-aid wedding – unfortunately I have seen this several times with couples who have been together many years and then get married and divorced within a matter of months or a year. Glad there are no children involved as a band-aid baby is far worse.
After the whole “The Chi” debacle there is love lost for Lena Waite. She’s a hypocrite. Her failure to act or do anything to protect the black actress on that show from Daryl Mitchell just showed me she is all talk.

NONE of this surprises me…and after how Lena ran the production of “The Chi”…which is about my hometown…and I’m not even TALKING about the insidious sexual monster she let run amok on the set…I’m talking about other stuff…

The issue that had me DONE…was this…the production of the show “The Chi” was done in Chicago in an economically challenged neighborhood which is also a food desert….you have to go for MILES to get to an actual grocery store and many in the area don’t have a car…so it’s a challenge and the people in the area rely desperately on corner stores…that what we call them in Chicago…in NY, they’re called bodegas….and usually, without exception those stores are HORRIBLE…the environment…the prices…the produce…don’t EVEN get me started on the meat selections…the television show was set and filmed in a corner store that was lovely…always stocked with fresh produce…everything…because it’s Hollywood…instead of production working with the residents (who were VERY helpful in all sorts of ways to the production crew) to make sure that the food that was used in the store setup was either donated to local charities or hell, just GIVEN to the people that lived right in the area…the production crew threw it out…for weeks as they were shooting…they were restocking the store set with fresh food…and throwing it out afterwards….the residents in the area were DEVASTATED…..
And there…ya go…
Wow… so this is why Lena Waite and Cynthia Erivo suddenly came back up. I thought the ADOS bots and Hoteps were buzzing again now that Cynthia was in contention for 2 oscars, but they’ve gone quiet since Kamala dropped out.
At least this popped up before Black History Month, last years was such a mess.

I saw her on an episode of David Chang’s “Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner” on Netflix. I had enjoyed her so much on Master of None and was shocked to find that she came across as an egotistical…asshole…for lack of a better word. This surprises me NARY a bit.
