I came here to say the same. Most people are still in shock, not up for stunting at the Grammys.
I couldnt hold back the tears and I wasn’t even at the staples center. Not sure how everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. I only watched to see how they addressed the Kobe thing. Still in shock today.

eugh, I get that kobe was a big deal but he was also a rapist who bullied his victim into silence, and I can’t ever forgive that. at least mike tyson and tupac did the crime, did the time, and did better.

@Modiglia Im not actually defending anyone. What I find gross is the idea that along with Kobe his 13 year old child died and their family is in mourning and that perhaps comments like this are in poor taste less than 24 hours after deaths. But you tried it.

Just because it’s someone you personally liked doesn’t mean he gets to have his past whitewashed. He’s in there with other celebrity victimisers and it’s disrespectful to his victim(s) to pretend otherwise.
I agree Just. Yes, Kobe was a bb legend, yes, he loved his kids. He may’ve been trying to be a better husband/person. But his past IS his past. We, on this site, don’t give others (Polanski, Allen, Depp, Pitt etc, who ARE POS) a break because of their “talents”. I don’t think Kobe should be deified because he was a great bb player.
And yes, I know: time and place. But I’d bet everything I own that when those men I listed above pass, we sure as hell won’t be paying tribute to any of their artistic work, all that will be said is about the behavior.

yeah exactly. no pass for bad behavior, even in death. my sympathies lie with his family, and the families of the other victims but I don’t care about his legacy, because no matter what else it is tarnished by the fact that he was a violent rapist. I’d be more forgiving if he had been more apologetic or remorseful but nah.
I agree 100%. This hero worship is really out of control. I believe his victim, particularly after reading the court documents. and I also believe that many people are falling for a highly engineered personal brand that was created around this man who was simply a man. He was highly talented (although not a fan of his game) at playing a sport. A sport that made Kobe a ton of money and a sport run by an unfeeling corporation that stands to continue making an unbelievable sum of money from this swell of emotion over his death. A tragic accident occurred. It hurt families, people in desperate need of a hero, and women who know it wasn’t fair for him to ascend the way he did after he got away with raping a 19 year old in the public eye. We can all grow up and recognize what we should all be wary of by this point and act with morality.
He WAS trying to be a better person. I did not know he was Catholic. I respect this. And dont start in about how his priest would have given him a pass.

Yeah, this site doesn’t give people breaks, that’s true…and even the writers have asked people NOT to make these comments right now…because they have souls and a moral compass that’s properly working. It’s why I love this site. Don’t make comments that implies they are being disrespectful to the dead when they’ve been anything but. I would love to see you walk up and say these things to ANYONE in person. The internet gives you a mask to hide behind. 3 CHILDREN ARE DEAD! They haven’t even recovered all of the bodies. Kobe wasn’t the only one on that helicopter. Do you realize you are connecting OTHER people’s memories to a rape they had nothing to do with? I’ve always had compassion for Kobe’s victim. I’ve always thought he got away with a crime. But the people who say (not here, Twitter) that his death is karma need to explain what crimes the other eight people who died committed to deserve to go out like that. Forget about Kobe for a minute. Let the OTHER families grieve.
Literally nobody is connecting the other victims to Kobe’s actions. You can be sad for the families (including Kobe’s) without wanting an important part of the national conversation about hero worship and victims forgotten.
Everybody deserves absolution if they are contrite.

I’m not sure why him being catholic gives him a pass for his actions. And it’s his victims that have to forgive him. Not the church.

Read the article. He made confession to God. He got right with God. He got right with himself. I hope the victim forgave him but that’s for her (or them, as the case might be) to decide. Not your business.

The case was more complicated. On a mutual attraction, hotel front desk person went to his room after her shift was finished. She was of consenting age. Later she called it “rape”, it’s not sure if it was for money and or regret. HE apologized for their arrangement & settled out of court. Let it go.
I was wondering how long it would take for someone to bring this up. Hopefully you’ll have this same energy when Roman Polanski, Brian Singer, Woody Allen etc die.
Btw Mike Tyson could have been released early but he refused to admit guilt. Members of the jury stated if they had heard all the evidence they wouldn’t have convicted him
I was at the Grammys and while it was a really somber mood at Staples Center, the entire ceremony went well and the it was lovely how they paid tributes to KB throughout the evening.
