Cynthia Erivo in Versace at the VF Oscar party: better than her Oscars dress?

Cynthia Erivo loves dramatic fashion and she’s often the standout on a red carpet. Her Oscars red carpet gown was by Versace and it was quite good, but she’s set the bar so high for herself that I expected more. She did deliver during her amazing performance of “Stand Up,” from Harriet. She had on a gold Vera Wang that was phenomenal, and I also appreciated the dress she changed into for the VF Oscar Party. Before we get into that, Cynthia is just 33 and if she would have won an Oscar last night she would have been the youngest EGOT! She still has plenty of time. Her performance in Harriet was so good and she broke my heart a little. I expected that film to be harder to take than it was. There were tough moments, but overall it was a story of triumph and badassery.

Look at the Versace she changed into The Vanity Fair Oscar Party. I love the delicate folding, the touch of green mermaid fabric, the matching shoes and how much fun she’s having with it. I would say that I would have preferred to see this at the Oscars but the colors are just a tad too playful. This is such a thoughtful high fashion look.

Reminder: Here’s her Oscars dress. It’s still amazing.

Regina King, on the other hand, choose the right Versace for the Oscars. (I have no idea if this dress is Versace too, I’m just saying she picked the right one. Update: This dress is Prada.) Remember her look during the ceremony? This is a perfectly lovely sequin column gown with black piping. It’s a very elegant evening gown that isn’t memorable.

Idina Menzel had a similar look in a strapless empire waist black and sequin gown. I love this and would wear it, but it’s not a watercooler type gown like Cynthia’s look, and not every dress should be.

This look was better imo. I would have switched the dresses.

LOVE the lilac and green (very “Endora” (Bewitched) lol) I did my first home in shades of amethyst and emerald (with rooms in all shades of both). I miss it lol 😊 The white was definitely the “showier” dress and the right choice for the Oscars; this dress is more playful (while still stunning) and fits the party mood for after.

Regina King KILLED it in her pink dress. She is just stunning. She looks great here.

Idina looks great, too. LOVED her face during the rap when the Travolta cluck up was mentioned lol

I like all of these a lot. And Cynthia’s party dress would have been fine for the ceremony.

Cynthia had my favorite performance of the night (though I was too late to watch Janelle’s). I didn’t know she had experience in musical theatre. Her voice is beautiful.

Some couldn’t get one dress right, and Cynthia killed it with both of these. She is just so beautiful, and looked fabulous! The dress that Idina wore for her performance worried me. I know it wasn’t actually going to fall down, but I thought that any moment she was going to heave at the bodice to pull it up.

I like Cynthia’s post Oscars dress better. Her performance of Stand Up gave me chills. Just beautiful. I really wish she’d won for best song. I get it: everyone loves Elton John. I love Elton John. But there wasn’t anything spectacular about his song. Sounds like everything else he’s done in the past 20-30 years.

Yeah, I had the same thought re: Elton’s song. I was confused that he was up there for a new song from Rocketman; I thought what new song? I saw that movie. I guess it was the one you hear over the credits? Maybe he had to match the songs we’d just heard during the movie in feel?

I love the mint and purple dress! Cynthia Erivo has worn some memorable red carpet looks, I think she’s one of a very few who can really pull off the big dresses. That white one was a disappointment, but this one is beautiful.
Regina King was gorgeous, one of my top 3.

Omigosh, I love Cynthia’s VF dress even more than her Oscars dress! (And I loved the Oscars dress too. 😀 )
