Billie Eilish wore head-to-toe Burberry at the BRIT Awards: cute or no?

The BRIT Awards 2020

It has been a crazy month for Billie Eilish, from her sweep at the Grammys to performing at the Oscars to releasing her James Bond song and now this, performing that Bond song at the BRIT Awards and winning some awards there too. Billie wore this Burberry ensemble on the red carpet and… I don’t really like it? It just looks like Burberry sent her a big package of their most obvious stuff and she just decided to wear it all. I don’t have a problem with her boxy, figure-masking style at all (I dressed similarly when I was a teenager too). My issue is that I think Billie could be having more fun with that style instead of looking like a Burberry billboard.

When Billie picked up a BRIT Award, she cried on stage and confessed to the crowd: “I’ve felt very hated recently. And, when I was on the stage and I saw you guys all smiling at me. It genuinely made me wanna cry. And I wanna cry right now, so thank you.” She gave an interview this week where she said she had to stop reading comments on the internet because they were “ruining my life, the cooler the things you get to do are, the more people hate you. It’s crazy.” Poor Billie. This past month has been A LOT. (Sidenote: I saw people saying she was the new Lorde and I’m still feeling like… uh, Lorde is still much more talented?!?)

More photos from the BRIT Awards: Lizzo wore this chocolate Moschino dress. I mean, it’s her shtick. I don’t hate it.

Ellie Goulding in Koché Spring 2020. Ellie’s voice annoys me and her vibe annoys me, but girl has got a BODY. This dress looks awesome on her.

Hailee Steinfeld in Fendi. She’s so pretty and I almost always hate her style.

Harry Styles wore pearls and a nice suit. He wore a black ribbon for the late Caroline Flack, whom he dated several years ago. (Sidenote: Harry has gotten extremely hot lately, right?)

I think she will disappear like Lorde. Her lethargic vocals get old fast.

    • Claudia says:

Lorde didn’t disappear though. Her second album is one of my faves of last decade. And she’s working on new songs.

With Billie, I feel like her brother is the main talent.

      • Dani says:

        Her brother is awesome.

      • Valiantly Varnished says:

Billie and her brother are both talented. Let’s not diminish her own talent to prop up someone else. I think Lorde and Billie are BOTH talented. But Lorde being more so? No.

      • Grant says:

Lorde may not have disappeared but she will never be the mainstream hitmaker she was with Royals in 2015 (I think that was the year). She also had a nice little Grammy sweep, if I recall correctly. And frankly that is exactly what I think is going to happen with Billie Eilish too.

    • Case says:

Lorde didn’t disappear! I believe her last album just came out a few years ago (maybe 2017 or 2018). It was really good, too!

    • Snowslow says:

I’m with you, the only difference being that Lorde did not disappear, she was just taken over by the likes of pseudo-talented people like Antonoff and the 2d album is mediocre compared to her first which is one of the best things of that decade, for me. (I see other disagree above so just my POV). And yes, I think Lorde is a true writer and much more talented than Billie.

    • minx says:

I can’t stand the sullen blank expression. She doesn’t have to look like a Barbie doll, but there’s a middle ground. I’ll let myself out now.

      • Squeaky says:

She has eyelid ptosis – I have the same thing and it makes me look dead in photos.

      • minx says:

I didn’t know that. Poor kid.

      • petee says:

It’s funny on the Daily Mail she is smiling in her pictures. And she gave a speech where she was smiling and crying because she was so happy.I guess she took herself off of Instagram and Social Media because of things being said about her.She even gave a better performance then she has had at all the recent awards here recently.

  2. pivotta says:

I wasn’t into Lizzo’s dress, but I was VERY into her and Harry Styles flirting excessively during the show.

  3. Lisa says:

I can’t wait till she is no longer a thing.

    • paranormalgirl says:

But here’s the thing… you don’t have to like her, watch her, listen to her, buy her music, etc. You actually have a choice. There are a lot of people who like her and what she puts out to the world. I hope she sticks around for them.

      • Grant says:

I’m sorry, is Lisa not allowed to have an opinion? Commenters can post to high heaven on a Jennifer Aniston thread but heaven forbid someone comes for Billie–LOL!

  4. Busyann says:

Billie’s looks remind me of Angelina Jolie….her mueic though, definetly reminds me of Lorde and Dark Horse Era Katy Perry. I like her, but her schtick is kind of wearing me down a bit.

    I love Lizzo! That’s all.

Ellie Goulding is annoying and she has lost weight no?

  5. Silver Charm says:

She has a much better voice than Lorde.

I love Lizzo and Harry and hope they collab on something new. They are delightful and gave great chemistry.

    • Polyanna says:

Yeah and Billie has a lot of heart in what she does. I am not one for “latest music” trends. But once I saw Billie perform I was hooked. She’s extremely talented, she is unique and has a ton of heart and soul that you can feel, and is an oddball which I love in an artist.

Lorde’s music is nice, but watching her perform never really did anything for me. To me Billie has a lot more going for her.

  6. Aims says:

Harry styles is so hot. I don’t know why, but I am so attracted to him, and I feel ashamed, lol. He does it for me, big time.

    • pivotta says:

I dunno, I’ve been finding him incredibly sexy lately, too. I wouldn’t feel bad though! He combines that old-school-rock-star swagger with a sweetness, I think.

      • Emily says:

Pivotta – yes! That’s exactly what it is. Harry reminds me so much of old rock stars but is so sweet. His appearance on SNL made me love him more.

      • pivotta says:

He was adorable on SNL, because you could tell the whole cast liked him a lot too. And that cast is not shy about telling when someone acts like a d*ck.

    • Originaltessa says:

Because he IS attractive? Objectively speaking. He’s a handsome guy, with great style and a great singing voice. What’s not to like? It’s not rocket science. He’s attractive.

      • Aims says:

Maybe it’s the age difference. I’m seriously thinking about seeing his concert this summer. He coming to my town and the tickets are SO expensive, but it maybe worth it.

      • Poots McBoots says:

        Touche, dear lady.

    • Dani says:

He’s always been attractive but the new look he’s going for and his new album and the way he moves on stage. I’m a goner.

    • clomo says:

I caught that when I saw him on Carpool Karaoke, relaxed and maturing nicely.

  7. LahdidahBaby says:

I love Billie. I just feel like she’s too honest and real to turn herself into a walking billboard. It saddens me, makes me think that anyone can be bought.

    • Eliza_ says:

She’s a teen. And teens think they’re being different by being the same in a way. She probably thinks she’s being meta by wearing head to toe brand names (for free) and being this unpackaged unique singer. But she’s a walking billboard for packaged and non-unique brands.

  8. Derriere says:

With Billie, I just don’t see any point in doing in fashion critiquing. She’s wearing her brand, it doesn’t look good and at this point it’s not interesting, but it’s her style and she feels good in it. And that’s the point.

I love Ellie’s dress. Would have nowhere to wear it but I want the same

  9. LahdidahBaby says:

Lizzo looks pretty. Love Ellie’s dress, but not necessarily Ellie. Harry is cute but so not sexy to me.

  10. Jackie O'Glasses says:

I don’t like Billie’s style at all. She always looks super high to me. Harry is very fine, but I loathe pearls on anyone. They remind me of Barbara Bush and Sarah Huckabee Sanders, which is never a good thing. Lizzo is awesome as always.

  11. boredblond says:

Burberry’s new slogan ‘the epitome of expensive frumpiness’ ouch.

    • SKR says:

Yeah, I see Tisci has ruined another label! Burberry was beautiful and classic under Christopher Bailey. He did new things but understood the brand. Tisci is being praised for bringing a street aesthetic to the brand; but I looked at the show and everything was hideous and tacky. I have never seen anything designed by this man that I have liked. I do not understand why he is so loved in fashion and keeps getting high profile jobs.

  12. Earth says:

Harry is ridiculously hot. I am an old old lady and I think he is the hottest thing to come around un decades. DECADES I say!

    • Skyblue says:

Another old lady chiming in and I’m with you on the Harry Styles love. He is the definition of insouciance. As a side note, one of my nephews busted me dancing and singing Watermelon Sugar as I was exiting my car and making my way up the walkway. He spied me through the window and was mortified. 🤷‍♀️

    • Claudia says:

I don’t get it – he’s a lovely guy, sweet and funny, but not hot to me at all.

  13. SM says:

I mean Billie’s music is not my jar of jam (I much prefer Finneas music) but I wish people would just stop. Stop projecting, judging, comparing. She is 18. She is literally Jon Snow who knew nothing. We all were at that age. If her music is not you type, just turn it off, go to other posts to comment. She seems like someone who takes life as it comes as opposite to those stars, who upon experiencing the taste of success, start acting like they are changing the surface of music or the entire Earth. And I much rather she would wear this bad of mess than try squeeze into some hot little dress showing young girls you do not need to use your body to achieve something. I must say also Hans Zimmer all into the song while performing the Bond theme gave me life.

  14. Heather says:

Unfortunately for her, Billie has been styled into a corner. Big and bulky is her ‘thing’ now. If she changes it, there will be chaotic speculation and gossip over her mental well-being, etc. Maybe that’s what her publicist is going for.

    • Originaltessa says:

Yeah, it’s to a point I’m not sure I’d recognize her if not dressed like an early 2000’s boyband third favorite member… AJ, or Joey…

    • Yeah, a person can already predict the crapload of misogyny that will come her way when she changes her mind. The devaluation that happens when a young woman no longer fits the role others hoped she would fulfill when it comes to modesty is disturbing. The violating things that will be said about her mind, body, and sexual history. A lot of disrespect and paternalistic cruelty will be dressed up as feminism/concern about pressure on girls to give up what’s seen as their worth. She seems to expect it too. Hopefully she has a good support system.

    • Jules says:

Her publicist, yes. Sadly for Billie she is just another cog in the machine. At this point she has very little say in what she wears and how she looks. The aim will be to market her, exploit her, provoke people with how she looks and what she says. And the aim is only to make more $$$$

  15. Mireille says:

Sorry, but I don’t get it. I’ve listened to enough Eilish’s songs and can’t get past her mumble-whisper singing, which makes me want to scream “SPEAK UP!” every time I hear her. It used to be Justin Timberlake and Rihanna’s nasally pitched tones that made me want to cringe, but NOPE, Eilish makes both of them sound like classically trained opera singers. And she’s not singing about anything that hasn’t been done before by others her in own age group. So, yeah, I just don’t get it. I’ll think I’ll turn my iPhone onto Jennifer Hudson and Sarah McLachlan now…

  16. Amy says:

Uhh Billie is lightyears more talented than Lorde.

    • Originaltessa says:

Lorde is light years more talented than Billie, imo. Billie has a talented brother and can carry a basic mumble tune. Lorde writes brilliant music. Cultural poetry. Her first album is a revelation. I could go on.

      • Snowslow says:

Lorde did that wonderful thing of making a 38 year old like me remember exactly how the sun felt on my skin in the summer when I was 18. Her lyrics are so powerful (even the one of her 2nd album). I just find her incredibly talented.
Plus, she has a voice. Billie, while knowing how to mumble-sing (which is a thing, whether we like it or not) is not a great lyricist and does not have that voice, you know? It’s a little bit like comparing Fiona Apple to Cristina Aguilera.
Edit: 40 year old like me? can’t remember when her first album was released. but I digress.

  17. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

OMG, I would so throw Ellie’s dress over a black unitardish kinda thing and love it to death lol.

  18. AnnaKist says:

It’s a big “no” from me for BE’s outfit. It looks messy and silly, and babyshitbrown looks good on no one. Lizzo’s dress is a lot of fun, especially since I’m working my way through a block of peppermint chocolate… The other girls look fine. Harry Styles. Meh.

  19. Carol says:

I don’t know any of their music (I’ve only heard Billie sing Yesterday at the Oscars, which was a hard no for me), but I don’t think I have ever seen Billie look happy. I might be unfairly projecting, but her kind of unhappiness strikes me as the “I’m so unhappy because I am such a deep thinker wannabe” type, and I find myself rolling my eyes whenever I see her. I will feel terrible if it turns out to be due to bullying.

    • pivote says:

She mentioned the bullying/hatred directed towards her at this award show. She may be rich and winning awards, and obviously part of her persona is “moody teenager”, but either we unreservedly recognise that online bullying can drive people to dark places, or we don’t.

    • Sofia says:

She was very happy meeting Jerry from “Cheer” on the Oscars red carpet 😊

  20. Andrew’s Nemesis says:

HELL no. Just – no. NO.

(Love Ellie Goulding’s dress; like stained glass windows)

  21. Scarlett says:

Billie can do no wrong. Talk about her talent instead of her outfit. The girl can sing. My 4 year old has no idea what she looks like but won’t let us play anything else in the car haha.

  22. Middle of the road says:

I don’t hate her, she’s obviously talented, but I also think she’s overrated. I also don’t get the super long fingernail trend. How can you wipe? Text? Eat? I would think those things would get in your way constantly.

Also Harry Styles was allegedly robbed at knife point, maybe I overlooked, but was this covered?

  23. jferber says:

I love Lizzo’s dress. It is SO Much fun and she herself is such a sunny and positive influence that I want her to make new music now. Every time I hear a song of hers I smile and feel good. Lizzo, you are fabulous!

  24. Jessica says:

    Billie – ugh. Whatever.

  25. Cel2495 says:

I looove Harry Styles new music… his new album is fire and really recommend… check it out if you guys can, you won’t be disappointed.

  26. Daisy says:

I’m not really into Billie’s music but I’m still weirdly protective of her. She’s so young, and her crying over hateful people really made me feel bad.
Also Lizzo, Harry Styles and Jack Whitehall were the best part of the BRITs. So much fun! I actually loved Harry’s other two outfits much more than this first suit.

  27. MeghanNotMarkle says:

Billie’s outfit is a big, fat, frumpy No from me. Yikes.

Lizzo’s dress is whimsical and the cut flatters her. It’s a win.

Ellie’s dress is gorgeous, but I’m not a fan of her.

I have no idea who the Hailee girl is but her dress is pretty.

I don’t get the Harry Styles love so I’ll just shrug at him.

  28. Jess says:

Ever since i saw this IG post (https://www.instagram.com/p/B8KdD-OHRTD), I can’t unsee that Billie’s had plastic surgery done. Which makes me question her parents, her “authentic” shtick, and worries me for how young she is.

    • Snowslow says:

😱 please tell me the nose is just make-up. I don’t think she’s had anything else done.
But can we talk about how she’s all glammed up, wearing loads of make-up and expensive (tacky) brands and her brother, a boy, is just hanging around, being “the producer”, super chill and unbothered? This is definitely a celeb patriarchal machine for someone this young and it saddens me.

      • Amy Too says:

I don’t think she has had her nose done or anything else. It’s clear that she’s wearing a lot more makeup in all the “after shots,” including contouring and a lot of concealer/foundation on the sides of her nose so that it all blends together as one skin tone. And all of the after shots appear to have professional lighting which gets rid of the shadows that can make your features seem bigger than they are.

And faces do change and thin out in general as you grow up. She’s only 18 now, so all the before pictures are of a younger teenage.

I enjoyed seeing the pictures of her with her natural, or at least a more “normal,” hair color. I think she has a very beautiful face. She looks high a lot, though.

      • Sam says:

She was a kid in the first picture, and still a kid now. Your facial features change, especially when you’re comparing a 14 year old to an 18 year old. Seriously, do people not realize how YOUNG she is? My daughter had a tiny button nose and it’s slowly changing as she ages. It’s not okay to judge a childs appearance. It’s just not. Celebrity or not. She’s still growing for Christs sake!

    • eto says:

I didn’t see any difference in her nose in any of those pictures but even if she did, so what? People can have plastic surgery and still be authentic.

    • Wilmarama says:

She 1000% has had a nosejob and a little plump fillers in her lips.
Wow.. Even think her jawline is wider now.

This is definitively not all make up.

      Just wow…

  29. pollyv says:

Billie has no style. To me the whole thing is a shtick that will be over by next year.

  30. Case says:

I really liked some of Billie’s early music. I remember coming across it on YouTube a few years ago — Ocean Eyes is a beautiful song and I think the dreamy, indie-type music suits her much better than whatever dance/hip-hop stuff she’s trying to put out now. She actually SANG then too, instead of mumbling through clenched teeth. Such an odd progression of her sound.

  31. Moxie Remon says:

My thing regarding her style is that she has all the tools to be great, but isn’t! There are so many more interesting brands than just Gucci or Burberry, I mean, Burberry itself has Riccardo Tisci who is able to do interesting things and still keep her kinda goth aesthetics and such, so why not go for original instead of logomania? She can still maintain her silhouette, but recreate it in more creative, sophisticated or edgier ways, I’m sure designers would love to have creative freedom to do more inspired looks. And while I do love her hair, I think it got old; if she wants to go for an signature look, I’d go for something bold, of course, but that has versatility enough that it can compliment everything she wears. Anyway, I’m full of opinions, but it’d be nice to see her truly glow up.

  32. Manda says:

No this isn’t cute. None of her outfits are. I thought that was the point?

  33. Stephanie says:

Harry Styles is a 26 year old man. He’s attractive as hell and I sure don’t feel bad being attracted to him. lol . It’s strange how much this site ignores him, considering how popular and big he is. I guess it’s a good thing. If you all want to see Harry and Lizzo performing together, check out a couple of weeks ago, when he joined her on stage. It was all me and my co-workers could talk about because it just put a smile on everyone’s face.

  34. Valiantly Varnished says:

I like Lorde but more talented than Billie?? Lol. No.

  35. Karen says:

Billie Eilish clearly doesn’t know what connotation that particular Burberry print has in the UK. It was hijacked by the chavs ages ago and most people don’t want to be seen anywhere near it. Yet there she shows up in it – but I suppose she does look like a chav so it’s fitting. I wonder how long this fad will last though. I reckon she’ll be forgotten in about two years.

  36. Naddie says:

They put her in a box, as they always do. It’s never healthy to be a teenage star, and that was Lorde’s salvation. She was huge among the teens, of course, but it wasn’t so well set, so defined as Billie is, as Britney and Avril were. They pick a young girl and make her the “new thing”, and forget the human part.
And oh, I love Hailee’s face, those eyes are beautiful.

  37. Grant says:

Yawn. This girl is so basic and bores me to tears. I feel confident that she will be forgotten about in a year–two tops.

  38. Veronica says:

Her music does nothing for me, but man do I get uncomfortable watching people her age skyrocket to fame. I really hope she’s got people watching out for her because fame does a hell of a number on young people.

  39. Marigold says:

Billie is a talented young lady, but I don’t think fame is good for adolescents who are depression-prone. I’m worried for her. I find her exhausting, but I enjoy her music, and I remember being a teenager. If I’d had people treating me like the prophet of a generation at that age, I might have been widely exhausting, too.

The stark change from Ocean Eyes Billie to current Billie worries me intensely. If it’s all an act to sell records…awesome. If not, it’s very indicative that something bad happened to her in the interim. The sudden change from normalized femininity to wearing huge, voluminous sacks and making herself as removed from conventional beauty as possible is sending my alarm bells off. If she were a grown woman with some years and experience on her, I’d write it off as an artistic and marketing choice. In someone so young–and as the mother of someone her age–it’s making my mom-dar ping so loud. I hope I’m wrong.

I hope she grows, stays healthy, and continues to push artistic boundaries in her music and lyrics.

And don’t discount Lorde like that. She is amazeballs, and her voice is amazeballs, and she is by no means gone. That young woman has skills, and she’ll be back when she wants to be.

    • Berlin George says:

I have watched a handful of interviews with Billie and she is very self-conscious re her body, especially her breasts, which she says she always tries to cover and hide as she feels they are too large. I sympathize with her. It helps to hear her in conversation to understand where she is coming from, as in an interview situation. It gives a fuller picture of her personality. Impossible to judge someone from a picture and suddenly know their whole psychology.
And she has never had plastic surgery.
