Meghan McCain: You’ve done ‘a piss-poor job’ of convincing me to vote for a Democrat

The BRIT Awards 2020

Friend-of-the-blog Mike Redmond at Pajiba has been on the Meghan McCain/The View beat for months now, and I kind of love how watching The View every day has made him dead inside. I don’t like the idea of Meghan McCain being representative of Republicans or GOP voters or even white women writ large, but there’s a reason why so many sites do have dedicated people watching The View and reporting on the conversations and interviews: because this dumbf–k show reaches millions of people every weekday. Political candidates have been stopping by the View for the past year and those interviews and discussions are affecting the race and making news. So, basically, Meghan’s asinine behavior and clueless white privilege becomes important, and thus it’s all some kind of self-fulfilling prophecy.

Well, the latest series of headlines from The View are such: Meghan McCain claims she’s not going to vote for Trump AND Meghan McCain says that Democrats have done a “piss-poor” job of explaining to her, a very stupid Republican woman, why she should vote for a Democrat. This whole conversation was a mess and it started with the ladies discussing Mike Bloomberg and how he’s racist and sexist (which is all true) and here, take it:

Stop us if you’ve heard this before: The View’s Meghan McCain and Joy Behar lashed out at each other in an off-the-rails and increasingly uncomfortable segment of the popular ABC talk show. Kicking off Tuesday’s broadcast by noting that billionaire Democratic presidential hopeful Michael Bloomberg has qualified for Wednesday’s primary debate, McCain said she was glad he would finally have to “man up” and debate the other candidates, especially as his past racist and sexist comments have come light.

Behar, who moments earlier warned Democrats against tearing each other apart because the nominee will need to defeat President Donald Trump, reacted by claiming Bloomberg has done “a lot for the black community too.” McCain countered by bringing up a lawsuit dug up by The Washington Post in which Bloomberg was once sued for telling a female employee who was looking for a nanny that all “you need is some black who doesn’t even have to speak English to rescue it from a burning building.”

“I’m just saying, you want to go up against Trump and you want to take the moral high ground, Democrats, I don’t know if this is going to be the guy,” McCain added.

Behar responded by bringing up Trump’s past racist remarks and comments, such as his reaction to the violence in Charlottesville, prompting McCain to snap back, “I’m not defending Trump because I’m attacking Bloomberg!”

Behar, meanwhile, continued to highlight Trump’s old comments to make the case that the president is worse than Bloomberg, prompting her frequent sparring partner to wonder why Behar was so defensive towards the former New York City mayor.

“It’s interesting that you have a problem we are talking about a candidate the way we would any other candidate. He just happens to be at the top getting the attention right now, which is why we’re talking about him. I’m supposed to give Bloomberg a pass? Not on this show!” McCain exclaimed, drawing rare applause from the View audience.

“I would like to know who you are going to vote for,” Behar replied. “Who are you voting for?”

“Who I vote for is none of your business,” McCain shouted while pointing at Behar. “But I am not voting for Trump, and I sure as hell am not voting for Bloomberg!”

“So you’re not going to vote. So you’re not going to vote. You’re not voting for Trump and you’re not voting for a Democrat. You said that,” Behar shot back.

“You know, you guys have done a piss-poor job of convincing me that I should vote for a Democrat,” McCain replied as fellow co-host Whoopi Goldberg quickly cut to commercial break.

[From The Daily Beast & Pajiba]

I’ll just make some points all in a row: Mike Bloomberg sucks and people need to stop caping for him. Meghan McCain sucks and she’s totally going to vote for the guy who said her father is burning in hell, so write her off now. People also shouldn’t vote for a 78-year-old man who recently had a heart attack and is still hiding his medical records. Democrats cannot chase the elusive “swing voters” who are really just Trump voters who don’t want to admit it. And finally, Meghan McCain – who cannot go ten minutes without shrieking “MY FATHER” – now wants us to stop mentioning her father.

  1. Rapunzel says:

So who is she voting for if not Trump or a Dem? Third party? Ha!

    • Venus says:

I see this as her saying she’d sit out the election and not vote at all.

If the Dems can’t get it together, I think they run a real risk of a lot of people not voting because they can’t stomach either candidate. Fine to say “anyone but Trump,” but the last several years have left a lot of voters numb. People already don’t vote because they don’t trust politicians, and what’s happening now is amplifying that. The DNC MUST focus on getting the vote out, or all the hardcore Trump supporters will vote and there will be less turnout for the unpopular Democratic nominee. I’m not sure the US will survive another 4 years of Trump.

      • pivotta says:

“Anyone but Trump” will work as well as “Anyone but W”. Kerry isn’t a terrible human, but trying to pick someone who didn’t offend anyone meant someone no one was passionate about.

      • Betsy says:

Were it not for the two not Democrats (Bernie and Bloomberg) mucking things up, the Democrats would have this together. Quite honestly I wish Biden hadn’t thrown his hat into the ring; he has had his time, he is done. Of the rest I think Warren is the best though I mourn Harris and Castro’s early loss. And Booker’s a little too but I didn’t know him as much.

      • palabra says:

I honestly don’t think Bloomberg is mucking it up, though. There’s a way he could actually help.
(Bernie, yes, 100%, offering everyone free puppies and pizza for lunch everyday with no real plan to pay for it all is mucking it up and could really destroy the Dem party at a national level for a generation.)

But Bloomberg… he waltzes in, drops a lot of money to show he’s got it, makes a lot of people angry, makes them say “This guy isn’t a democrat! we don’t want him”, forces centrists to coalesce around someone else, drops out, and keeps pouring money in for the Dems.
Will it go this way? Probably not. But there’s a chance.

      • zotsioltar says:

In a lot of states you can skip president but vote for other stuff. F-Trump, but none of the leading dems are worth voting for outside of spite for Trump. In my state you can vote for whatever you want and those votes count and the blank ones are just ignored.

    • Annaloo says:

The answer is simple: Amy Klobuchar

      Not Trump
      Not Bloomberg
      Hasn’t had a heartattack
      Also, a woman
Our last chance for a female president for 2020

Why are Dems not rallying her?

      • LP says:

Did Elizabeth Warren disappear off the face of the earth? 🙄

      • Annaloo says:

@lp Fair point, but the wind is behind Amy right now. It’s always about who is rising. 🙁

Bernie Bros have done a good job of not putting their money and support where their mouths are at. It was lip service, their talk of inclusivity and progressivism bc you had Warren, a much better candidate, less divisive than Bernie. Most diverse field of candidates ever, and Dems still land on cis white males as their lead choices, continuing the trend of being no better than the GOP. It’s one thing to talk woke culture, and another to actually live it and as an observer, I can see the opportunity for Warren was lost. Hypocrites, many of these Democrats. At least the GOP is outright and forward on their sexism and racism. We try to act like we re above them, but it’s still about the straight white male.

Democrats will have no problem voting (inevitably) for Bloomberg, while complaining how this world is so unfair to PoCs & women.

      • Betsy says:

The wind isn’t behind Amy so much as the media has completely stopped mentioning Warren despite her popularity. If the standing candidates, she is far and away the best.

      • pivote says:

Amy didn’t do well in Iowa and got 3rd in New Hampshire. She might think that makes her the obvious choice, somehow, but it doesn’t. And abusing her staff members should be damning.

      • LP says:

Um, Elizabeth Warren is third in the first two primaries, which aren’t necessarily representative of the race as a whole. I’m voting for her, donating to her, etc until the day she wins or drops out. With respect, it’s this attitude that is SO frustrating to me- “I like Elizabeth Warren/I’d vote for her, but Twitter and the news said she’s doing poorly, so..” It’s a primary! If you want to vote for her, and she’s still in the race, you should!

      • mac says:

I think Klobuchar has a decent shot at vice president, assuming she can get through the vetting and Sanders isn’t the nominee. I know people who have worked for her and the stories are not good.

      • Annaloo says:

To all: my point was never about Warren’s electibility, talent or potential. I think she’s also one of the strongest candidates the Dems have ever offered.

My point is that Democrats are hypocrites. All the talk of uplifting and representation and it didn’t foment. If it had, Warren would have certainly excelled over Bernie. People donating and voting for Bernie over her are showing their thinking.

And people who donate and vote for the status quo, while simultaneously talking about changing the status quo are hypocrites.

      • sandy says:

Because Amy sucks and is a terrible employer, couldn’t name the president of Mexico when she wants to take credit for negotiating a major trade bill, and scored her points last debate lying about Pete. Also she can’t give a stump speech for her life.

    • SM says:

I don’t know, I am reading that as a conversation about the best candidate could or should be. The race for nomination is not over and it is an appropriate time to discuss and debate who is the best candidate. To both beat Trump but also to be a good president. And the questions regarding Bloomberg just highlight that. With Trump in office, the threshold for decency is so low and anyone would be an improvement from Trump. But this particular moment with primaries happen it is a good time to ask who is a good not just as an alternative but good for the country. and most of us would agree that is not Bloomberg, a rich guy buying himself into politics. I would even agree that comparing the character and/or misdeeds of other candidates to Trump is rather poor strategy for mobilising votes

  2. Sarah says:

But Trump, the guy who insulted your terminally ill dad while he was alive and has continued to do so now that he’s dead, has done a good job of convincing you to vote for him??!!!

  3. Erinn says:

Look. It’s not like Meghan McCain actually stands for anything. It’s all performative.

    • Jillian says:

      YUP

    • pivotta says:

      Exactly.

The fact this show has an audience, especially one of millions, is such an odd thing to me. Who wants to watch several women with nothing in common shriek at each other between commercial breaks?

      • Erinn says:

RIGHT. That’s pretty much my worst nightmare, I just don’t get it.

      • pivotta says:

It’s baffled me since the beginning.
“Hey, we combined the experiences of
        1. being in a Manhattan deli and having an old lady start yelling that you cut in the line even though you were there first
        2. listening to two women in a coffee shop argue about something they’re both wrong about at a volume level that should be illegal
        3. a drunk sorority girl cornering you at a party and cry-yelling about something.
        You should watch every morning!”

      • Meg says:

I assume there are few options that time of day right? Why else would someone watch

      • Helen says:

“2. listening to two women in a coffee shop argue about something they’re both wrong about at a volume level that should be illegal
        3. a drunk sorority girl cornering you at a party and cry-yelling about something.”

        i am *deceased* 😂😭

      • Joanna says:

I like it, I like hearing a debate. Sometimes political debates get heated *shrug*

    • HELEN says:

      “It’s all performative.”

when it comes to meghan mccain… this right here. unfortunately, she still gets a lot of attention and focus.

p.s. bloomberg needs to gtfo of the race.

    • lucy2 says:

      Thank you!
I honestly don’t know how anyone watches this mess, or why she is employed there. Or why anyone cares what she thinks or says about anything.

      • Meg says:

I feel the same about Kelly Osborne, why does anyone care what she thinks or says about any subject?

      • Christin says:

Mess is an appropriate word for that “show”. MM’s last name got her this “role” (I hesitate to call it a job), so her father will be mentioned by others.

  4. Reef says:

The same woman who mentions her dad at every opportunity for political points is against others using her dad for political points. hmm.

  5. duchess of hazard says:

The irony is, her dad’s the one who hauled Sarah Palin onto the political scene, and created the portal for President Trump to come through down the line. If she’s gonna talk about her sainted dad, she needs to say everything.

    • JC says:

Sarah Palin wasn’t his choice of running mate.

      Just saying.

      • Mumbles says:

Last time I checked, she was. If he didn’t like her, he shouldn’t have agreed to her. He was the boss, not his staff. And the point is excellent – Palin was a portent of the proudly ignorant, gleefully cruel movement that got us Trump. McCain is not alone to blame. You can also look at his managers Steve Schmidt and Nicolle Wallace, and early Palin booster William Kristol – all of whom have made a career of being alleged “never Trumpers” – as well. “The men who spurred us on, sit in judgment of our wrongs.” – The Who.

And as for Little Missy here, she’s classic “born on third, thinks she hit a triple.” And I can’t help but look back and think of her predecessor, that other nightmare Hasselbeck. I didn’t think it could get worse than that, but McCain just might be (hard to tell).

      • mac says:

Newt Gingrich launched the post-fact “Republican Revolution,” the tea party took it to the next level, and Palin perfected it. Trump is the inevitable outcome because all revolutions eat their children.

  6. TheOriginalMia says:

As if she was going to vote for the Democratic nominee. GMAB. No one cares what her opinion is about the party. Voters like her got us Trump. She’ll vote for the man who routinely insults her father because she’s a moron and a conservative. No one is looking to Meghan McCain for political advice. No one is going to change their votes because she truly has shown Republicans don’t give a damn about the middle class or POCs.

    • Annaloo says:

Democrats don’t give a damn either. Most diverse field in history, and who are the pack leaders? Who is ascending?

While the GOP is baldfaced in their bigotry, Dems are completely hypocritical on race and sexism. They say they want diversity, yet we still cling to the demographics Americans want most for leaders: straight white and male.

Liberals don’t send their kids to school with the kids of the neighborhoods they are gentrifying

Liberals do not regularly weave support of small businesses owned by PoC – esp in neighborhoods they are gentrifying– opting rather for the business owned by a white hipster type who looks like them and has appropriated whatever ethnic food into an Instagram culture they feel comfortable and hip about

Liberals often have friends that look just like them. Just look at their FB list of friends. Not exactly the UN representation, but more of the same: over educated, over woke, but not practicing it

I’m tired of pussy footing around this. Liberals need to wake up and see their own hand in perpetuating lack of changes in sexism and racism in the world around them.

      • What. . .now? says:

The media has A LOT to do with the narrative of who’s ascending and descending in the polls.

All of a sudden Elizabeth Warren can’t get any press? She’s still out there doing her thing and there is literally NOTHING getting covered. Why is that? Amy K. is now riding a wave, but how much press did she get before? Hardly any, and just negative stuff.

The MEDIA has a real problem with strong women and qualified women running for president. Look at what they did to Hillary–running with the latest conspiracy theories 24/7, giving that ridiculous hermunculous in the White House thousands of hours of air time.

I’m not saying you are wrong on your points, but please remember to include the media — because what they decide to cover and promote is how we get this Bernie Bro shit and Biden as the top candidates. It’s NOT the rank and file democrats who solely do this.

      • Christina says:

Oh, Annaloo!! I love you!!! You get it.

      • Kezia says:

Every point here is so dead on. Nodding my head throughout (to Annaloo’s comment).

      • Baltimom says:

I agree that Dems could do more to put up rather than shutting up all the time on minorities but let’s look at the alternative that is currently holding the country hostage. Even if you hate the Dem candidate you need to vote for him or her. No one should pay any attention to any stuff on any of the Dem candidates. The negative press is what sunk HRC last time and Repubs want that to happen again. Stay the course and vote blue. If you don’t think there’s enough change happening for POCs then run for office.

  7. Carol says:

If she can look at Trump and say she needs convincing to vote for a Democrat, that tells me everything I need to know about her.

    • jj says:

Oh my goodness, you are so right!! I wish Meghan could see your comment, maybe then she will see what the rest of America sees.

  8. girl_ninja says:

She has no respect for herself or for anyone else.

  9. BendyWindy says:

I actually agree with her, and I’m a hardcore progressive. Bloomberg is the Trump of the Dem party, and discussing his transgressions is fair game.

I’m blue no matter who, but in the primaries it sure won’t be Bloomberg.

    • MissG says:

I agree also. I will vote for Mr Stop and Frisk if it comes to that, but he’s just a shorter and richer version of Trump.

    • KBeth says:

I would vote for my neighbors senile poodle before I would vote for Trump, despise him. That said, I’m not particularly hopeful about any of the democratic candidates.
McCain is a idiot but I would agree that the Democratic Party isn’t really offering anyone who the the undecided voters might get excited about.

    • lucy2 says:

I don’t want Bloomberg either, but I would vote for him in the general vs. Trump. I’d vote for anyone, or anything, over Trump.

    • Jerusha says:

In 52 years of voting I have never voted for a Republican, but it’s so bad that if Richard Nixon were the only one running against trump I’d vote for him. And then vomit.

      • Lightpurple says:

To make you feel better, Nixon greatly expanded the Medicare scope of services and Medicaid eligibility and services so you would be voting to save our healthcare safety net.

      • pivote says:

Nixon was also a huge supporter of environmental protections.

      • Helen says:

weirdly enough, nixon heavily funded federal infrastructure. (something trump seems to absolutely refuse to do, despite his hollow campaign promises)

nixon was probably way more to the left than bloomberg is (not a high bar, but still).

      • Jerusha says:

And established the EPA and opened up a dialogue with China. He did a few good things overshadowed by all the bad. He was a deeply flawed, insecure man who wanted to hold onto power, but nowhere near as bad as the narcissistic megalomaniac.

      • ChipDip says:

Y’all are crazy. Nixon vetoed the Clean Water Act, and the EPA was his consolidation of separate independent agencies (that already existed) under executive control because he was an egomaniac. Any statements he made about the environment were an attempt to bring centrists back to support him as Vietnam news dwindled. Once the EPA secured executive oversight on emissions, water, and general pollution, enforcement of almost all regulations stopped, as said enforcement was the responsibility of the bureaucracy (in other words… the executive branch).

Additionally, in regards to China, he refused to recognize Taiwanese sovereignty and was basically there to ensure China would not intervene in Vietnam.

  10. minx says:

Like she would vote Democratic anyway….

  11. pivotta says:

One of Bernie’s moronic spokepeople has called requests for his medical records a “smear campaign”. He, his staff, and his supporters are so toxic.

    • Jerusha says:

Everything is a smear campaign against Bernie to his cultists.

      • natalia says:

I would have said that the only thing that will shut them up would be him getting the nomination and then losing terribly in the general election (which he would). Especially with his frat-bro supporters loudly saying if the Dem nominee isn’t Bernie, they won’t vote.

But based on what happened in the UK with Corbyn, Bernie could get the nom, lose the election in a landslide, and his little toads would STILL be complaining that somehow he actually won and they’ll still stan him forever.

  12. Tate says:

Spoiled rich girl without a clue about the real world. Screw her.

  13. I used to watch The View occasionally when I was off sick from work or had a day off, but I had to stop. I don’t mind a lively discourse or disagreement, instead of the usual talk show unicorns and rainbows BS, but I find the constant screaming and name calling on The View disgusting and unenlightening. McCain goes over the top but so does Behar and occasionally Whoopi. Regardless of your political opinion, you can have an intelligent discourse. Nowadays though it seems it is all about name calling and screaming no matter where you fall on the political scale. I would say this if they were men: this is not constructive, lively debate — this is mud wrestling and screeching to be heard regardless of whatever is being said. And, I think Behar was out of line to demand McCain reveal who she is voting for (and I am someone who thinks we have a man in office who is not only immoral and a traitor, but possibly also has serious mental issues). However, no one should be forced to answer that question in a democratic society and Behar was way out of line. I don’t give her a pass just because I might agree with anything she screeches. Both of these woman need to take a hard look in the mirror and regroup. I find them uninspiring and embarrassing. Thank God, one can still turn the sound down, change the channel, or turn the TV off!

  14. Snap Happy says:

Wait, is that mike Redmond from the superficial?

  15. Dandelion says:

And Meghan McCain has done nothing to convince me I should ever vote for a republican with her immature bs antics, so I guess we’re even.

In all seriousness, I wish this idea that dems have to put up a candidate that convinces a republican to rediscover their basic humanity would die already. Half the trouble we’re in is a direct result of democrats trying to draw in idiots like her instead of going full throttle on our policy goals in the same way the republicans do — we spend 8 years course correcting with some “moderate” dem just so we can take one step forward and then we’re dragged three more steps back by the next republican administration. Enough of the bs.

And especially here. She’s so privileged — and always has been — because of her father and his work and his sacrifices that she will never have to look at this election as being life or death for certain groups, much less herself. She’s constantly showing herself to have less integrity in her whole person than her father did in his right pinky toe, to be selfish, short-sighted, and dumb; and I say that without liking her dad very much either. Like, I may not like Bloomberg and I may be angry about his poll numbers and ad buys, etc, but I would still vote for him over Trump and never, ever third party because hello, this is America and the system is f’d.

    • Christina says:

Democrats screwed themselves when Harry Reid killed the senate filibuster for the confirmation of judges during the Obama Administration. Reid’s error has worked to lock in minority Republican rule of a majority center-left country. It’s why our presidential election vote counts no longer match the electoral college. As that was happening, the machinery to further gerrymander the south in favor of Republicans was churning in favor of the Meghan McCains of the world.

Bernie Sanders or Mike Bloomberg will be the nominee. So much is riding on this that no one will take a chance on Klobuchar or Warren, who we need, but thoughtful politicians aren’t what people seem to want.

Meghan McCain represents the thoughts of a lot of people in the country. So does Joy Behar: she wants a street fighter like Bloomberg because he’s willing to roll around in the gutter with Trump. People, Democrats and Republicans, want immediate results, like Harry Reid did. People don’t want the deliberative democracy that is the Constitution anymore. Some people weren’t even represented by the Constitution to begin with, like Sally Hemmings and other slaves. As a matter of fact, law enforcement was later created to control freed slaves because the slave owners were afraid of retaliation by freed Black people. What we have now is because people don’t want to think about how anything effects anybody else.

All we can hope for is that the Democratic nominee is supported when he accepts the nomination, as much as I want it to be Klobuchar or Warren, and that he listens to the career civil servants and places Klobachar and Warren in his cabinet to help manage the country once he becomes president if he wins. There is a real chance that Trump will lose because his low income voters can’t feed their kids with dog whistles forever.

  16. adastraperaspera says:

Meghan McCain made the choice to marry Ben Domenech, racist plagiarist and editor of The Federalist. Her number one job each day is to push outrage and division in our society. She is sharing coordinated misinformation–this week all GOP, alt-right and left-wing attacks are against Bloomberg. Next week she will follow a narrative she’s given and trash someone else. She is not sharing independent “opinions.” Why she chose this path when she even has multi-racial siblings and relatives herself is a mystery to me. Some speculate that their marriage is to beard each other, as rumors of Meghan being gay have been around for years. Of course, she is likely just plain racist herself. Sad, when she could be doing so much good with her famous family name and connections, at a time when we so desperately need people to step up.

    • What. . .now? says:

This all day! She’s married to that cretin at The Federalist who she calls her “ride or die guy” — having an objective opinion about anything political is not going to happen in this lifetime. Like she would ever check a box with a “D” next to it, please.

And again, if all this corruption that is going on with the Senate, the president, Barr DOESN’T convince her, then NOTHING will.

  17. Case says:

If the behavior of the Republicans these last four years hasn’t convinced her, I don’t know what will. The process of finding a Democratic nominee has admittedly been frustrating to me, but don’t tell me any of those people are even 1/10th as bad as our current president. C’mon.

  18. lowercaselila says:

There’s no convincing her and Democrats shouldn’t feel obligated to try. She’s closer to a Trumper than you think. Her moral compass, if she ever had one ,is just not there.

  19. Leo says:

Counterpoint – if you need convincing not to vote for a man who said your allegedly adored half-saint of a dad was in hell, you are a lost cause to begin with.

  20. Naomipaige99 says:

I’m sorry, but for me, she’s the reason I stopped watching The View. to me, she’s just so trashy!

  21. Dani says:

Everyone on that show is disgusting. I can’t believe it’s still around. I watch it occasionally when it’s on at my nail place and I find Joy and Meghan equal abhorrent. Terrible people. The only valid point Meghan has is that the Democrats ARE doing a piss poor job convincing people to vote Blue with the options they are presenting. It’s either all way too far left for moderates or not left/center enough for independents,

    • What. . .now? says:

Democrats are not doing a piss poor job — it’s the Media who are covering them that is doing a piss poor job. If they gave the kind of coverage they give to Republicans it would be a different story.

Why are Dems always held to the very highest standards across the board–but Republicans are not? Why is it that all a Republican has to do is breathe and not denigrate a person/institution or have said “boo” to trump once–oh my god, it’s the second coming! But if a Dem called somebody a “booger face” in second grade–well then, forget them!! They are terrible!

The so-called fourth estate has been failing the general public for at least a generation.

You can’t build these kinds of narratives that dems aren’t doing crap and repubs will trounce again in the election without the help of the media.

      • Dani says:

I’m actually referring to the Democratic candidates. None of them are appealing to me and all the ones that were, have been basically forced to drop out and yet again we are left with geriatric white men who just want power. I don’t think the media is helping either party – at all.

      • natalia says:

A lot of things are the fault of the media. But it’s not the media’s fault that for a long time now, Republicans have shown they’ll rally around any candidate, and Dems have shown they’ll keep waiting for the mythical “perfect” one and not really support anyone until then.

    • What. . .now? says:

I agree @natalia, Dems do wait for the perfect candidate far too often. But my point is, if the media were fair in coverage — it would be a lot easier for Dems to rally to their candidate of choice earlier in the game.

Plus, dems are ALWAYS put on the defensive, always asked to defend themselves on some trivial matter, or their personal lives and repubs–rarely. Pete B spent time having to defend himself against Rush Limpballs ragging on his marriage. Who the F cares what Rush has to say about any Dem candidate? He always hates them, so why do we have defend against his attacks?

Does anyone say to repubs, “Rachel Maddow said this about your personal life? What do you have to say about that? What do you say to people who are saying xyz about your personal life? Will that have an effect on your job as president?” When has that happened to a rep candidate? They get to talk about their issues, while dems have to defend themselves and then don’t get to talk about what’s important, because Oops time’s up. So no wonder it’s always skewed, and again, hard to rally early in the game.

I just want to say – I love that you guys are still “friends-of-the-blog” with Mike Redmond. I think he’s insanely talented and what happened to him with The Superficial was terrible. I’m so glad you are supporting him.

  23. Imtired says:

It seems like saying or doing racist microagressions does not necessarily correlate with harming POC. Trump has a few and most were more than 10 years ago, yet his policies are cruel and hurt POC. GWB Didnt have any , nor Obama obviously and they oversaw a lot of deaths in Iraq afghanistan Pakistan etc. Trudeau did blackface twice (and has acted very sexist or worse towards female colleagues) and seems to be quite an ally to the native community, at least this week, also chooses both female and POC in his cabinet. (There’s a blockade in Canada related to native lands if you guys don’t know.)
I’ve never heard so many racist things about one candidate so quickly as Bloomberg. I’d still vote for him over trump as he seems way less crazy. Meghan is not that wrong to mention that he has said quite a bit of racist stuff, assuming it’s all true. The view is not a good show, but joys a joy. I guess she really shines in relation to those who are annoying and it keeps the view kind of alive?

This is pants on head. Never seen such a bad take.

  24. Chimney says:

Why is Joy Behar supporting Bloomberg?? Are they friends, did he buy her off like he’s bought off so many? He’s essentially Trump but smarter and more effective. I don’t want someone whose racism is more effective in the WH.

My vote is still going to Elizabeth Warren. Everyone is acting like Bloomberg is the only one who can defeat Trump but Bloomy is the one who started that bs, it’s the motto in his ads. Please please stop supporting this authoritarian troll. Also don’t underestimate how much control and influence a billionaire in media can have over the media.

  25. The Recluse says:

Meghan needs to shut it. Her privilege ranks up there with Ivanka’s. Neither are qualified to be where they are.
Bloomberg has some serious background issues that people are just beginning to explore, more than sexism and racism, but also his business associates. Behar picked an unfortunate hill to defend there.

  26. YAS says:

I’m a libertarian, so I’m not exactly in the bag for the Democratic party on any given day. But it’s bizarre when libertarian and libertarian-adjacent who despise Trump are all “give me a reason!” Here’s a reason: Trump is President and he’ll be President for four more years if you do not vote in a way that will decidedly cost him the electoral college. As it currently stands, our elections are two-party elections. The people who hate that system seem to only hate it every 2-4 years when they have to vote and they vote third party instead of doing what they should be doing which is organizing grassroots efforts to change our two-party system and elections. Protest votes are not the same thing as actually facilitating change.

I’ll vote Democratic in the 2020 election because literally anything is better than Trump. Even for people who don’t like Bernie Sanders’ policy proposals surely realize that there isn’t even widespread support for them among elected officials and Democratic voters, so of course they won’t pass any legislation in a Senate that’s very likely to remain in Republican control. The only difference is that Sanders won’t be appointing corrupt Attorneys General who undermine the integrity of the justice system and the rule of law in this country, which I’ve been told conservatives USED to care about very deeply. Those who oppose Trump still say they care about it, but apparently not enough to decisively deliver it from the clutches of the d*** Bronzer-in-Chief.

Is that Mike Redmond who was the head writer on TheSuperficial?

  30. Angela82 says:

Meghan McCain has done a piss poor job at being a human being.

  31. Liz version 700 says:

Meghan you have done a piss poor job of convincing me to try red lipstick. Sorry she makes me screamy. Go back to your lane Meghan the adults are talking.

  32. MsIam says:

I think Meghan McCain is a douche bag extraordinaire. That being said, I’m not feeling this angst that the demos have about this election for several reasons:

    1. I’m sorry but HRC was not an inspiring candidate. She felt inevitable but not inspiring.
    2. Because she was not inspiring a lot of people didn’t make much effort to come out and support her.
    3. The biggest reason, is nobody thought Trump could beat her. Remember Trump didn’t think he could win. Hence an uninspiring candidate in an election that seemed to have a foregone conclusion lead to apathy.
    4. But this time around, people have seen trump up close and personal. They have seen what chaos looks like, seen the dirty tricks pulled and despite the impeachment vote, heard the evidence of wrong doing. I think people are tired of this and want it to be over and soon.

I don’t think people will be sitting this one out like last time. Trump has about 25% of the Republican Party that are his hardcore ride or die supporters. I may be totally wrong but I think he is toast. He’s done nothing to build bridges and has offended, nay pissed off a bunch of folks.

  33. Jana says:

I fucking loathe everything about Meghan McCain, but the thing I detest in her the most is not her claiming to be a ‘longtime’ political pundit (she is an Art History Major for Christ’s sake) or her constant mentioning of her father (which is how she’s gotten every job) but It is the tone in which she speaks to absolutely every person on that show, it’s filled with disgust and hate. And after she gives her scortching retort, she incessantly grabs her water like she’s been wandering in the desert for 3 days. She’s the epitome of hypocrisy and stupidity in the GOP.

  34. Bread and Circuses says:

Oh, the entitlement: We’re supposed to fall all over ourselves centering her?

We owe her none of her energy.
