Remembering Pippa Middleton’s 2017 wedding on her (belated) anniversary

Middleton Matthews wedding

This is a belated anniversary post, because I forgot! I forgot that Pippa Middleton married Terribly Moderately Wealthy James Matthews on May 20, 2017. I completely forgot that Pippa and Prince Harry’s anniversaries are so close together on the calendar – for some reason, I thought Pippa got married in June. But no. So, Pippa and TMW James’ Buckleberry wedding went down in 2017. I remember it well. There was so much advance gossip around the wedding too, and let’s not forget that’s when James became Terribly Moderately Wealthy. In every introduction piece about James, “sources” kept saying that he’s “terribly rich,” which was funny because the whole vibe around the Middletons then was so Jane Austen-esque, and that Pippa was just a simple local beauty in Berkshire and some Terribly Rich Man From the City had come to town and they had some kind of old-fashioned courtship amongst the Bucklebury rose bushes. (And as it turned out, the numbers were fudged on James’ wealth anyway, which is why I downgraded him to Terribly Moderately Wealthy).

There was also tons of drama – remember this? – about whether Pippa would invite then-Meghan Markle to the wedding. Harry had been dating Meghan for almost a year, and there was headline after headline about Pippa wanting to “snub” Harry’s gauche American girlfriend. And in the end, all of that snub talk got Pippa even more attention on her wedding day, how about that. Meghan didn’t go to the wedding service, but she was Harry’s date to the reception. We should have known then the Middletons were already very, very upset about Meghan’s presence.

When Pippa’s wedding gown was revealed, I felt sort of disappointed. Pippa has a nice, well-proportioned, athletic figure and the Giles Deacon gown threw off her proportions, made her shoulders look wide, and the cap sleeve was actually the wrong look for Pippa’s arms. But otherwise, I always thought Pippa’s wedding looked very nice – it ended up being genuinely Austen-esque, a small village wedding at a local church by her parents’ home. TMW James seemed very pleased with everything too.

The Duchess of Cambridge wore a pale, dusty pink McQueen frock to her sister’s wedding. After the service, Kate made sure to walk away from Pippa and James and “pose” for some photos with her children. I always thought it was Kate’s not-so-subtle payback move to pull focus from Pippa on her wedding day, like Pippa did with Kate on Kate’s wedding day. That being said, Kate looked dowdy AF in that sad-boob McQueen dress. Oh, and remember how Roger and Mirka Federer showed up too! Crazy.

I always assumed Kate was matron of honor bc her outfit was so… strange. I think it’s the little hat perched on her head. Pippa’s imaginary husband is more handsome in my mind.

    • Mira says:

I agree, Kate’s outfit is strange. It has weird boob sacks.

Also, I can never get over the fact that TMW James has a very very long neck.

      • AnnaKist says:

😂😉 “…weird boob sacks”. I’m howling, but they really are! The deep V-neck really highlights her bony chest. Mr Almost Terribly Wealthy’s neck is unfortunate, poor lad.

      • Guest with Cat says:

Oh my goodness you’re right about his neck being unusually long. It’s a body part and he didn’t choose it, so I won’t make value judgements on aesthetics, just as I would not welcome criticism of traits of my body that I have no control over.

But I will say it is quite a remarkable trait and reminds me of how prodigiously long Laura Dern’s neck also is. I think it’s wonderful and fascinating there’s so much variety in the human form. Lol, yet most of us tend to look like many other people. Even being multiracial and multi ethnic, I don’t stand out much anymore in the diversity my town has acquired over the decades of my life here..

But people with remarkable features like this are quite striking and definitely stand out from the pack. When I wear a turtleneck sweater it looks awkward since I gained weight. I lost the slender neck and proportions I had to rock the look in my youth. This fellow is not going to have that problem!

He is overall a nice looking young man. I hope he’s a good husband and father. I don’t care at all for the Middleton family and I do think it is strange they get so much publicity. Especially when the British public seem to be rather exhausted by the coverage of the royal family and barely acknowledge some of the actual royals. I daresay Pippa and brother James get more press than Princess Anne does.

      • Lynn says:

Haha. I clicked on the photo thinking, “that’s dramatic. The dress does not have ‘boob sacks’.” But yes, yes indeed it does!

    • Ainsley7 says:

She was matron of honor. Her dress matches the bridesmaids sashes.

      • Becks1 says:

That didn’t mean her dress had to be that blah and ugly, lol. It might explain the color (although I would argue the color of the boys trousers would have been better on her) but it doesn’t explain the style.

      • Ainsley7 says:

@Becks- I think the overall vintage style is pretty, but it had too much going on. If the sleeves hadn’t been so dramatic and the detail on the skirt was gone then it would be a really pretty dress. It’s just a very unfortunate color on her and it didn’t fit quite right. The hat didn’t help either.

      • Marehoop says:

I read that she wasn’t and couldn’t be because it wasn’t protocol for her to behind Pippa. If you watch Harry and Meghans wedding, when they arrived the other ladies with the children waited for Kate to walk and then the headed up the stairs. One of the kids was trying to walk and the mom was holding her back until Kate walked, so I think there could be some truth behind it.

    • Ronaldinhio says:

Kate is always trying to dress ‘as if’ this is why it always seems like dress up

I wish she had the confidence or personality to write her own ticket fashion wise

She is attractive when dress down and hard faced wanna be at all other times. I actually find it distressing as it speaks to how she must really feel inadequate and dispensable.
She tries to be perfect to cement her spot

      • Dinah says:

Looking at how Kate often dresses in those Jane Austen / Little house on the prairie / granny style clothing, I sometimes wonder if that’s the way William likes his women to dress and look like. Maybe he doesn’t like hot, modern dressed women. I mean, that Rose woman also dresses like Kate does. And she is also very very tin.

  2. February Pisces says:

I dunno what I think about that dress. I think it was too heavy for her, the high neck looks quite severe. It’s quite a thick lace so there shouldn’t have been so much fabric. As for Meghan not being invited, well that says it all about Kate and the middletons feelings. If this wedding had been last year after harry and Meghan got married, I don’t think even harry would have turned up. There’s no way in hell hes going to James wedding.

    • Lex says:

A gamine dress on a natural is never a good idea… (Kibbe)

    • bettyrose says:

That’s true. It was nice of Harry to even go, which he probably only did to avoid negative gossip out of respect for Kate and Pippa.

      • Melissa says:

Or they are friends since we know nothing at all of their private lives.

      • Nic919 says:

If they were friends then none of this no ring no bring nonsense would have happened at Pippa’s wedding. That’s not something you do to a friend who had at that point been seeing his girlfriend for close to a year.

      • sarah says:

Its actually pretty common for this style of English wedding to reduce the numbers like that – ie “no ring, no bring” or I know others who say “if I haven’t met them, I don’t invite them”. A lot of this has to do with the size of churches for these village weddings, numbers are often limited by the number of people you can seat in the church. I have been to two weddings in the church Pippa was married in, and its not huge.

  3. Seraphina says:

That dress, that Kate wore, on a different body type would have looked good. It’s a nice dress, she just couldn’t carry it.

As for Pippa, the ceremony was exactly like you summarized. And the dress was nice. NICE. with all that money, nice was not the look I was hoping to see.

    • Becks1 says:

I strongly disliked Kate’s dress at the time of the wedding, now looking back it doesn’t bother me so much. It’s blah, does nothing for her, etc, but whatever. I wonder if its because we’ve seen her wear some real doozies over the past 3 years so now that dress seems modern and fresh in comparison, LOL.

      • 10KTurtle says:

Same. At the time I thought it was the ugliest dress I’d ever seen, but now I just think it looks like something she borrowed from QEII without having it tailored (as if QEII would ever wear such a drab color).

      • Lady D says:

I mentioned on Tuesday that I thought that was the ugliest dress I’ve ever seen on a royal, but I take it back now. I think dowdy is more descriptive of that dress.

      • Becks1 says:

@Lady D – don’t forget, it was AFTER this wedding that she wore that hideous yellow Erdem in Sweden. That was one of her worst looks ever, IMO.

      • Eugh says:

We had to endure Ireland to get perspective!

    • Digital Unicorn says:

When it comes to the wedding dresses of the Middleton sisters – for me Pippa wins.

I didn’t mind Kates dress here but her makeup was terrible.

      • Seraphina says:

This discussion made me curious about other royal brides, I know Pips isn’t royal.

Princess Mary’s and Princess Victoria’s are some of the better ones. I don’t think Queen Maxima’s got her that well up top. I expected more from one of my favorite royal fashionistas.

      • Stacy Dresden says:

I agree, I like the dress. Fabric is gorgeous and I love that skirt.

  4. Sofia says:

I’ve noticed in some of Kate’s dresses, the breast area seems overly “focused on” (not sure that’s the exact term I would use to describe it). It’s also seen a bit in her BAFTAs 2019 dress as well as her wedding reception dress. I don’t know if it’s just how her body is or if it’s tailored that way. I just think it draws attention to that area because it’s very “sharp” and defined.

Pippa looked good. Not a fan of lace everywhere dresses but that’s a personal preference

    • manda says:

There was a black lace one from earlier this year (I think?) that had little whirls/circular shapes in the pattern, and it appeared as if the whirls/circular shapes were right over the center area of each breast, and it just looked a bit nipply to me. (Not sure if I can say that?) And once I saw it, I couldn’t stop seeing it. So I think you might be on to something

      • FicklePickle says:

That is a common problem (especially with male designers, it seems like). Pattern motifs centered right on the nipples aaaand one right on the crotch.

Or maybe it’s not a dude thing, maybe it’s just a lack of attention to detail thing, and also the ranks of high-profile highflying fashion are overstocked with male designers so it ends up seeming like a dude thing.

    • Calibration says:

Maybe that’s what happens for some with no boobs? Too much padding)/fake boob.

      • Sofia says:

If that’s her purpose then she needs to stop. It’s doing her no favours

      • ennie says:

There are other wonderful styles for small chested women.
I dislike how Pippa’a arms look here, I know she’s a runner, but I think it is on purpose. I just think that the Middleton sisters love being thin just a bit too much.

    • L4frimaire says:

All that lace makes me itchy. I’m a silk bridal satin type all the way

  5. Priscila Bezerra-Fischer says:

That dress is not nor does it read as white, that is all I have to say about Kate.

  6. Becks1 says:

I liked her wedding dress actually. I thought it suited her well and the back was pretty. James Matthews looked so happy that day.

I go back and forth on not inviting M to the ceremony. They did that to ensure that Harry still attended, because his attendance was obviously uber-important to the Middletons, and wasn’t it said that if Meghan wasn’t invited, Harry wasn’t going? I can understand the concern about her pulling focus, because the tabloids absolutely would have been all over that, so at the time it seemed relatively reasonable, but looking back it seems like a bad omen of how House Middleton was going to react to Meghan Markle.

    • Erinn says:

I liked the dress too! It’s a tad heavy looking, but it’s really really pretty. I’d have been very happy if that had been my gown. And James DID look really happy, and that’s always nice to see. I think honestly, in a lot of ways Pippa has a pretty good life set up.

The invite thing is something I flip flop on a little bit too. This was happening during a time where EVERYONE was obsessed with Meghan (not like they aren’t still) and looking at that from the bride’s perspective, I’m sure there were concerns of her overshadowing her. I mean, she had a prince, and Pippa was just connected through her sister’s marriage.

I give most brides some slack when it comes to things like this because there’s just so many details and things to work out, and invitations are difficult to make decisions on when you have a lot of connections. But yeah – in retrospect, it’s a hell of a lot of foreshadowing for how things would go down.

      • Nic919 says:

I don’t think Harry and Meghan had been seen together in public very much and it’s possible they didn’t want to overshadow the bride with paparazzi at the ceremony. The attempts to film them in a moving car to the reception were bad enough.

But it’s hard not to think that games were played by the Middletons based on what we have seen since then.

      • bettyrose says:

If one doesn’t want to be overshadowed by more glamorous guests, maybe don’t claw your way into a more glamorous world? If one of your close childhood friends was successful and well known, would you not invite her?

    • minx says:

I like Pippa’s dress quite a lot. She looked glowing and happy.

    • Rae says:

I also liked her wedding dress. It suited her and showed off her toned body and arms without being tacky or overly fussy.

I’m a little biased though, as it’s pretty damned close to my dream dress.

  7. Ginger says:

Was there a no ring no bring rule for this wedding? I heard that but I am not sure. The Middletons used Meghan to get more publicity for this wedding. I know there were a bunch of articles about if Meghan was going to be there.

Not a fan of Pippa’s dress. Or Kate’s.

    • Flamingo says:

Not for this wedding in particular, but I think that’s a great rule for weddings. I’ve seen so many receptions get out of hand when someone’s date that they barely know gets too tipsy and makes a fool of themselves.

Best example: I was a bridesmaid in a friend’s wedding. Another bridesmaid invited a guy she’d been dating for 6 weeks as her date. The guy got drunk, kept asking old people to dance with him, and ended the night by pulling his pants down to “moon” everyone.

      • BabsORIG says:

@Flamingo, yr post is going by the assumption that there are never anyone that gets engaged to people they barely know. Or that there are never anyone that dates their significant others for years if not decades with no rings to show for the relationship, LOL.,😂😂 Imposing
rules like these on others is just silly as it does not guarantee any smooth running of any event or ceremony. And it was rumored that Pippa considered imposing this rule only to realize it would leave a lot of people off the invites list, including Harry whom they were desperate to get to attend.

      • Lotus says:

I’m sorry I totally disagree. If I’m attending your wedding I should be entitled to bring a date or just dont invite me. Example someone invited me to their wedding without a date, so I drove two hours by myself to the wedding and then got to drove home by myself at midnight. I now won’t attend weddings where I dont get the respect of bringing a date.

      • Lizzie Bathory says:

Everyone has their own preference, but for my wedding, we gave everyone a plus 1. One of my favorite stories was my husband’s friend who finally got up the courage to ask the cute barista he had a crush on to go with him out of state as his date for our wedding. This was their *first date.* They had a blast, fell in love & are now married with 2 kids. When we attended their wedding, people treated us like celebrities when they found out my husband & I were “THE wedding.” Still warms my heart.

      • Jane's Wasted Talent says:

That’s such a cute story, Blood Countess. (I’m sorry… but how many chances do you get to write a line like that? Thank you for choosing that name- you could have a lot of fun with it, lol.) I doubt you’ll even get to see this, but it *was* a cute story.

Flamingo- that sounds hilarious, but mooning always makes me laugh.

    • Becks1 says:

I’m not sure if there was or wasn’t, I feel like that may have made sense generally (no clue how big that church is, and obviously since the Middletons had the reception at home they had more flexibility with seating etc) but I think if that had been the general rule we would have heard it.

    • ABritGuest says:

Pippa looked lovely. James looked v happy. Was funny how it was hyped as much as any royal wedding- pippa was in her element!

No ring no bring was BS as Princess Eugenie turned up with Jack at the wedding ceremony with no issue. I do think her presence was hyped by press mainly but looking back wonder if it was Harry & Meghan who decided on evening attendance only or if it was example of mean girl tactics that was a prelude to everything we’ve seen.

      • Harla says:

I had heard around the time that Harry and Meghan decided that Meghan would only attend the evening reception and not the wedding. I do wish we could have seen Meghan’s reception outfit, I bet it was gorgeous.

      • MsIam says:

I read that Harry had to drive two hours to pick up Meghan for the reception. I can’t remember if that was round trip or each way. At any rate that alone should have been enough for them to issue an invite to the wedding. Why make him go through all that trouble, it just makes them seem really insecure.

  8. janey says:

I really like Pippa’s dress and thought she looked beautiful, and so happy. I kind of feel for her a bit, I personally think she struggled after such a big fuss was made of her bum at the wedding, whether to pursue the fame or not, then made a bum of herself. ironic really.

    • Sofia says:

I mean Pippa pretty much did get a lot of opportunities due to her being Kate Middleton’s sister. But none of them really panned out to be successful so I think people stopped giving her good opportunities because it just wasn’t worth it.

So it wasn’t a question of did Pippa want to pursue fame or not. I think she did (obviously not to her sister’s level but nonetheless fame) and it didn’t work out so she sort of “dropped off” – not out of choice but out of realisation that she wasn’t really going to “make it”

    • Eleonor says:

I like Pippa wedding gown too.

    • Harla says:

I agree that Pippa wanted to pursue some level of fame after W&K’s wedding but I think that William put so many restrictions on what she could/could not discuss and really people only wanted her to dish on the royals, that there was no way it was going to work. I did watch her interview with Matt Lauer and she did not interview well, very monotone voice, very little facial expressions, nothing to wow the camera with.

      • Molly says:

I remember that interview. Pippa said something about being surprised by the attention because they thought of it as a family wedding. That probably sounded very clever in her head.

I miss Pippa’s thirst. The occasional pap stroll in Kate Spade just isn’t the same. I still don’t get why she didn’t have better content for her book or Waitrose column. Hire people and have them help you with it. Or merch better than a bag line and a few coats and dresses. People were obsessed with the Middletons at the time. How did they pull off social climbing to that degree. How did Pippa become close friends with George Percy. The Wisteria Sisters title was as much about envy as it was about disdain. They could have made so much money from this but had terrible and bland content.

  9. Ali says:

    Pippa’s dress was boring.

A little drama to draw some focus.

  10. Mina_Esq says:

Let’s be honest – Pippa is not pretty, and the Trumpesque fake makes it worse. The top of the dress is too small, but the dress itself is ok. Kate’s dress would have looked better on someone else and with different styling. She has a special skill of taking a dress and making it look instantly dated and matronly. Something nice: i really liked the look of the small English country wedding. It’s very romantic.

    • Becks1 says:

Yeah, as an American, that wedding seemed very quintessentially “English countryside wedding,” in a good way.

    • WilliamJoelene says:

“She has a special skill of taking a dress and making it look instantly dated and matronly.”

Ha ha ha nailed it MINA_ESQ

  11. SJR says:

I hope Pippa, hubby, baby are all happy.
It’s a good time in life when young, with a new healthy baby.
I will back any cheerful happy news. I am worn out with living in Trumps USA, constant worry for what next.

    • Calibration says:

I mean, they’re very rich with nothing to do in every day life. I’m sure they’re happy. But I could not give a shit if rich and priveleged people are happy

  12. LouBear says:

I don’t think it was that big of a snub that they didn’t invite Meghan. They didn’t invite Vogue Williams either, and she was dating the groom’s actually brother?! Vogue and Spencer (James’s brother) are married now with a toddler and another baby on the way. Vogue and Pippa seem pretty friendly now.
I think it was a No Ring, No Bring rule

    • Yet Donna Air, James gf was there. No ring.

    • MsIam says:

Somebody said Eugenie and her boyfriend were there, so I think it was definitely a snub.

    • BabsORIG says:

Pippa was threatened, and honestly it was not without reason. Many people were saying, including British tabloid people, that they only gave a hoot because Meghan was rumored to be attending. If Meghan had actually attended, Pippa would have faded into the background on her own wedding. The Middletons gathered for Meghan terms from the fact that regardless of how frumpy Meghan dresses, they can still never escape being in her shadow. She outshines everyone of them without even trying. That’s why Kate wearing a off white frock with intentions of pulling focus on Meghan’s wedding day was not only pathetic but also very laughable.

  13. Andrew’s Nemesis says:

If Keen and Pippa were the Bennett sisters, which ones would they be? Kitty and Lydia? Kitty and Mary? Neither is intelligent or ‘morally pure’ enough to be Lizzie or Jane, so…
I wonder if Carole Middleton read Pride and Prejudice and decided to use it as a handbook. Mrs Bennett to an absolute T.

    • Züri says:

      Yes- this is so good!

    • Harla says:

I’ll play…I think Kate would be Mary, who thinks she’s wise and witty but really isn’t. And Pippa would be Kitty, living in the shadow of her sister and unable to make her own mark.

    • Molly says:

Who was the girl who secured a promise of marriage from Edward Ferrars in Sense and Sensibility? They would be her or maybe one of the girls from Mansfield Park.

      • Jaded says:

Miss Lucy Steele – I think she would be Kate for sure, scheming her way into an engagement only to get thrown out and marry Edward’s brother on the rebound.

      • swirlmamad says:

@Molly – Lucy Steele! Just rewatched the Emma Thompson version of S&S the other night. One of my favorites…..so good!

    • Bohemian Angel says:

Carol; “Oh Mr Middleton, how could you?” Wailing into her hanky.

Michael Middleton has just announced to the family that he is stopping the children’s allowance so they can no longer play with the rich kids!

She is defo Mrs Bennett, Kate and Pippa are a good mix of Lydia, Kitty and Mary.

    • Andrew’s Nemesis says:

      Thanks for playing, everyone!
Lucy Steele is an excellent call – with a soupcon of Mary (recall how Mary, terminally untalented, nevertheless foisted her execrable piano playing on the company, and took it for granted that she would be celebrated for it).
Ooh – the Bingley sisters, though! Both deriving from middle class origins and painfully aware of it; unkind, cruel gossips: shunning outsiders and making them uncomfortable; trying to catch rich and titled men by stamping on the faces of the social pyramid they climbed. In the BBC version (well, is there any better? Colin-Firth-wet-shirt. Umgh) both dressed in a very matronly fashion, too.

      • swirlmamad says:

@Andrew’s Nemesis, now I must rewatch the BBC version of P&P (I’ll dust off my DVD set). No time like the present!

  14. Lauren says:

I’m surprised Pippa hasn’t had another baby yet.

  15. Harla says:

But I thought that the Middleton’s are so pure that they never use their connections to the royal family to promote themselves??? As I recall KP was issuing press releases on Pippa’s wedding details, did the Middleton’s reimburse those staff costs?

The dress is fine but the bodice is too structured and severe for my taste and the faux-tiara was a bit much. But the bride and groom looked very happy and that’s really all that matters.

  16. Melissa says:

I thought her dress was perfect for her, I loved the color combo on his suit, but the thing that stood out is how wildly happy they both seemed in all of the photos. TMW James was tickled pink.

    • Prayer Warrior says:

me too, i like her dress and thought it perfect…for her, and the colour combo of his suit. They both seemed very happy, and I hope that’s true. But sadly, if they are terribly, moderately happy, that’s got to stick in FFQ’s craw because I don’t think FFQ is …..

      • Andrew’s Nemesis says:

If I were the FFQ and had to see a Penis With Teeth first thing every morning, I’d turn to day drinking.

      • Melissa says:

What a strange take on my comment. I know if I were unhappy, either in my marriage or otherwise, it wouldn’t occur to me to have a “stick in my craw” because someone I loved was not in the same predicament.

Not being a close personal friend of “FFQ” I can’t comment.

  17. JanetDR says:

I remember spending a lot of time looking for reception photos because I was intrigued by the setting and what I had read about it. I never saw much. Does anyone have links for me?

  18. AL says:

Is that the same suit coat that Harry wore to match the green dress in March? Looks like it has that emerald green lining.

    • Ginger says:

It’s a different coat. That suit has a longer back. The one he wore at the CW service was a regular suit jacket and lighter in color.

    • s says:

Good eye! I totally missed that. Not sure if the jacket is the same cut though…

  19. Harper says:

I really liked Pippa’s dress and thought she was a beautiful bride. Kate’s dress was fugly! That peach/well-cooked salmon color doesn’t flatter her coloring. It really looked like something a matron in 1940/50 would have trotted out.

    • MsIam says:

Same, I really liked Pippa’s dress and I thought it looked really fresh and suitable for spring. That thing Kate is wearing looks like a costume from Call the Midwife or Father Brown.

    • Lizzie says:

Kate’s dress looks like something Rosalind Russell would have worn in a 1930/40’s movie. Could not be more dowdy if she tried.

  20. HK9 says:

Well, Kate managed to wear the right colour to this one….

  21. June-o says:

Everyone in these photos looks really underfed.

    • Grace says:

I think that’s an unspoken rule for the upper class in England. Look dour and waif thin at all times haha.

I was disappointed that Meghan attended the wedding reception. It was so clear before Pippa’s wedding that they did not want Meghan there. They even had to “sneak” her into the reception??! Why go somewhere you clearly are not wanted? It would have been nice if she had nothing to do with the Middletons.

    • Lowrider says:

This is true but you can say that for the institution too. Meghan was not welcomed and it was made loud and clear through the tabloids.

      • Mary says:

Pre-wedding (most of) the Royals hid it better though and the Press made much of how Prince Charles and the Queen liked Meghan. I also felt that if Prince Charles had her back she would be okay (it turns out he didn’t and she wasn’t) but the Middletons made it clear from the get-go that Meghan was not wanted.

  23. Savannah says:

The dress swallowed her up, which is how I felt about Kate and Meghan’ s dresses too. I am sure being a bride is stressful, but losing all that weight doesn’t make you look better in a big white dress. As for the ceremony, lots of people do marrieds-only for dates, either to save money or for space. I don’t think it’s unreasonable though it is extremely annoying to have to attend a wedding alone.

    • MsIam says:

That wasn’t the deal because other single people brought dates. They just didn’t want Meghan there period. Since Kate and William were there plus Harry and other royals, you know there was plenty of security to keep paps under control. It’s not like they were going to storm the church and disrupt the ceremony or anything. The Middletons just didn’t want to see all the pictures of Meghan in the papers the next day. I guess they thought people were dying to see pictures of Pippa but darn that nasty Meghan would get in the way!

    • Nic919 says:

Eugenie and Jack got engaged after Harry and Meghan but Jack attended anyway. If it was no ring no bring then he should not have attended the ceremony either.

  24. L4frimaire says:

Pippa’s dress is pretty, Not fabulous but nice. Not totally sold on the neckline and it does look like the sleeves were ripped off, but she can wear almost anything. That weird color on Kate does not suit her skin tone at all, abd the dress is fussy and unflattering. Very Vichy regime. When you look at Alexander McQueen collection, and you look at what a Kate wears, it does not look like it comes from the same house at all. Kind of want to punch whoever does those awful qween dresses to avenge McQueens ghost.

  25. Vanessa says:

I remember how the Middleton’s used every trick in their bag to make pippa wedding into this huge royal event they even used Kensington Palace to announce. How excited kate and William were I definitely think that Middleton play fast and loose with Meghan invitation and they definitely use her and Harry relationship to courted the press one minutes she was invited to the wedding . Then next there’s a suddenly a no ring no invite only to the after party . I honestly thought it was completely petty and very mean girl of the Middleton’s to not invite Meghan to the wedding having Harry have to drive two hours to go pick her up for the after party .

  26. Amelie says:

I was taken aback by how much I liked Pippa’s dress and how pretty she looked that day. And I think I liked it better than Kate’s dress, I liked the slightly high neck and all the lace. I remember people giving her grief for showing off her arms because she is athletic and her arms are slightly muscular and toned and didn’t understand the criticism. I think her arms look great and she should be proud to show them off!

And James looked so happy if bemused at the attention. That’s the one thing I thought was ridiculous about this whole wedding was that it was being billed as a “royal wedding” because Kate, William, Harry, George, and Charlotte were in attendance (and maybe Eugenie?). If you go back and look at the footage of Pippa and her father driving up to the church, they stood outside the church unnecessarily long and as they walked in, Pippa looked back a few times at the “crowd” (there can’t have been more than a handful of people?), it was pretty ridiculous. I thought the slow procession out of the church after the ceremony with Pippa and James out the front was super cheesy and how they just stood there for 5 minutes basically for the paparazzi to take pictures lol.

As for Kate’s outfit, it was terrible. Every time I see it it reminds me of the wedding dress Sandra Bullock wore in The Proposal.

  27. Anya says:

Am I the only one who thinks Pippa looks very much like Amy Sedaris?

  28. MissM says:

I still think its hysterical that Pippa showed up wearing a tiara. Anything Kate has the Pipster gets too!
I also still find it interesting that despite Pippa appearing to be somewhat accepted by the upper class, all of her aristocratic friends blew off her wedding for Lady Melissa Percy’s birthday party. There wasn’t a single big name from the British upper class at the wedding. Even George Percy who is supposed to be good friends with Pippa (they lived together during uni) couldn’t be bothered to attend.
Let’s also never forget that the Middletons used Kensington Palace to issue statements on the wedding like they would if it was a royal wedding. They used KP to release details about the brides dress and the bridal party as well as other details. I surely hope that they paid back the KP staff for that otherwise the tax payers had to foot that bill. The lack of outrage over that still amazes me.

  29. Awkward symphony says:

LoL @ “boob McQueen dress” 😂😂😂 that’s spot on! It was so weird but she likes that kind of style as her own wedding dress have perched breast design and she has a weird Dolce & Gabbana green dress which she last wore to Wimbledon which has pointy breast style!!!

I didnt like Pippa’s dress which strangely exencuates her muscular arms and long torso! I guessed she’d go for lace as the Middletons are obsessed with it.

  30. Elizabeth says:

So it was “perfectly reasonable” for Kate to wear white to Harry and Meghan’s wedding because she was de facto in the wedding because her children were in the wedding. But George and Charlotte were in Pippa’s wedding and she wore something obviously not white.

The mental gymnastics some people exercise over justifying Kate’s actions must burn calories, no?

  31. Dinah says:

Looking at how Kate often dresses in those Jane Austen / Little house on the prairie / granny style clothing, I sometimes wonder if that’s the way William likes his women to dress and look like. Maybe he doesn’t like hot, modern dressed women. I mean, that Rose woman also dresses like Kate does. And she is also very very tin.

  32. Suz says:

Were the Middeltons of Bucklebury expecting Harry to stay single forever? Sometimes I read things like this or that Kate was so upset when Harry moved out and I’m like, were they expecting Harry to be part of a throuple?
