This touched me so deeply. It’s something I plan to do soon. Lovely she adopted teenagers.
I’ve also thought that if I decide to have children, I would look into adopting an older child. I saw a special on TV once where a little boy around 7-9 years old told the journalist he didn’t understand why no one wanted him. It broke my heart and has haunted me ever since.
Our foster care system needs to be greatly improved. Foster children need continued support after they age out of the system.
The absolute best advice is find an experienced childhood trauma specialist therapist. They’re hard to find but practically miracle workers for both you and your child.
It’s “touching” to adopt, but the motivations need exploration. I’m hosting a kid for a gymnastics academy whose parents live a state away. I’m not her savior, her folks are paying. I have my own teen whose dad supports us from afar- some days I literally say to myself,
“I wouldn’t do this if I wasn’t getting paid”. I know that sounds cold, but teens really push/rebel/put down, sometimes violently. It’s really not a “lite” or “touching” job- a labor of love, sure. But REALLY REALLY CHALLENGING. This requires experience, education and MONEY
I’m foster mother to a 13 year old boy and have too agree that it is very challenging and triggering at times. Its also rewarding and meaningful. But it uses up all of my mental and emotional resources most days.
Trump is garbage, but LOL he has no federal power over how states conduct elections. That’s why challenges to state authority always go through the courts. Our founders were wise enough to recognize the potential for corruption there. He would also have to go through Congress to get those funds withheld, so have fun playing king to your ignorant masses, loser.
My state has already mailed out applications to request a mail in ballot, plus has already mailed out ballots to those who have submitted their application. But I live in a red state (that will stay red), so Trump isn’t whining about that being illegal.
Also, the mail in ballot is much stricter than voting in person. We do not have any voter ID laws to vote in person. You go to your polling place, give them your name and sign. That’s it. So it would be much easier to commit voter fraud in person, than to commit voter fraud by mail, given all the hoops I had to jump through to get my mail in ballot.

I vote by mail because I travel for a living (well, did), and while it wasn’t necessarily hard, per se, I did have to provide way more identification criteria from the get go to vote by mail than when I show up on site. I have no idea why anybody thinks an electronic system can’t be as easily hacked as mail, to be honest. It’s hardly better or worse as far as security goes.
Oregon has voted by mail for like 20 years. No problems, and it’s super easy. The state even pays for postage. This is all just dog whistles to pave the way for voter suppression and invalidating election results in the fall.
My state has had optional VBM for a while now, I’ve done it for a few years and it’s GREAT. I never miss an election, and can look up candidates and stuff ahead of time, don’t have to wait in line,
I’ve been involved with a campaign to get Democrats to do vote by mail, and the state just announced they’re sending ballots to everyone, so the campaign is like…mission accomplished? I’m sure they’ll focus on other methods now too.
And as Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson pointed out that, after he repeatedly attacked and insulted her personally while ignoring that she actually has a name, she had done, legally, exactly the same thing as several of her Republican colleagues had done in other states but he didn’t seem to be objecting to them.
I have voted by mail for about five years and love it. No parking problems, no dealing with bad weather, and I can take my time to really read the propositions, and to study down ballot races where I am not as familiar with the candidates. It makes me a better informed voter. I guess that’s exactly what the Republicans fear.

Sia’s video with Shia LeBuff and Maddy dancing in the cage, I read once she said it symbolized her and her fathers struggle with mental health and the cage symbolizes the illness and how she was able to escape and overcome it but her father could never escape it’s grip. She is a very deep thinker and a humble soul and those kids and she are so fortunate to have found each other, family is what we make it.

Ugh, I love Sia so much. She’s incredible. Such a great role model.
And even though she shows her face now, I always thought she was an absolute genius for obscuring her face during her performances. Essentially, she could share her art with the world and still have anonymity in her personal life. She is brilliant.
Foster care should not end at 18. At 18 I was in my last year of high school in the country, totally financially dependent on my parents.
