Someone floated the theory that Mary-Kate Olsen was already living apart from her estranged husband Olivier Sarkozy, and that’s why she had no idea that he cancelled the lease on their Gramercy Park home. That’s why she was freaking out and trying to file emergency divorce papers, so she could formally move out of the home they technically shared. It would make a lot of sense – she originally tried to file for divorce in April, only to be rejected because it wasn’t an emergency. My guess is that she and Olivier have not been cohabitating for a few months at least. That would mean that she wasn’t exactly homeless all this time, which was how it was painted in court papers. Well, now we don’t have to worry about MK’s living situation this summer: the poor sausage will rent a splashy Hamptons pad!
Mary-Kate Olsen is headed to a luxe $325,000 Hamptons rental for the summer, sources told Page Six, amid her split from husband Olivier Sarkozy.
Olsen just lost an emergency petition for divorce and was seeking to continue using the couple’s Hamptons home, as well as their Gramercy apartment and an East 49th Street address. She claimed in court docs, “my husband expects me to move out of our home on [May 18] in the middle of New York City being on pause due to COVID-19.” But a judge ruled it wasn’t an essential matter.
A source told Page Six that the lease on the couple’s Gramercy pad ended this month. Now Olsen will instead decamp to the multimillion-dollar Hamptons estate with a private dock, we hear.
Ah, to spend a quiet summer in the Hamptons in a great, expensive rental with a private dock. That sounds so soothing and lovely. But what about MK’s workaholic vibes? Surely she won’t spend the entire summer in the Hamptons? Surely she’s going to need to spend some time in the city, even during a pandemic? Which also makes me think that she’s already bought or rented an apartment in Manhattan anyway. Hopefully, she’ll let me stay at her Hamptons rental while she’s in the city.

This story line of her getting thrown out during a pandemic seemed illogical from the start. I’m an nyc landlord and and work with many – no one would throw someone out, even during normal times, once their lease ends.. Add the pandemic and no landlord wants any tenants moving out while they can’t even show a place and so many people are not working.. no one wants to deal with vacancies. And then add to that eviction court isn’t even open so if it came to that – it wouldn’t even be an option!
IKR? It was so clearly never about the apartment itself. For sure there’s something in the apartment that led to all this hysteria – but when will we know what that was??
Also every person that had a second home left the city so I am sure she has been in the Hamptons anyway looking for properties to rent for the summer.
$325k in the Hamptons is like a shed in someone’s back yard. Either the reporting is wrong or she’s blown through a lot of money.
I was thinking the same thing but maybe they meant she was paying $325k to rent the place? That’s seems more likely
I think that is the monthly rent for the place?
I wonder if it’s that much a week/month.
I think it’s that much to rent for the summer and it was just worded weird by the NY Post.
Actually not really, they probably mean it’s a rental – $325k for the summer (roughly 3 months).
That’s what she is paying to rent the place for the summer.
I have a fairly small condo and I’ve been very happy here during all of this downtime. But man do I fantasize about how great it would be to spend quarantine in a sprawling mansion, or even just a regular beach house. There’d be so much to do!
She’s spending the summer with horses, I guess. Is that why we have horsey set pics? That would definitely heal me from almost anything.
It must be nice to divorce without having to worry about money. I know she’s in danger of losing stuff, but she has lots more stuff. If they weren’t cohabitating, then she has most of her stuff with her.
The rich aren’t like the rest of us…
This just goes to show that the judge was right. MK was being VERY dramatic with her divorce filings. I can understand where she is coming from, but her reasonings, in the middle of a pandemic with her amount of money, were laughable.
And now look, she’s doing just fine, as she always was.
I do hope she finds happiness with someone as that marriage just didn’t seem built to last.
I agree – it wasn’t an emergency, they made the right call. These 2 have the means to physically separate right now and no one is left homeless in the street.
Anyone who knows how to ride doesn’t wear spurs. They are cruel and unnecessary. She needs to STOP it now. Being rich and low profile doesn’t give you leeway to abuse animals. Ok, sorry for the tangent and back to the her rental drama.
You are absolutely right. I’ve been riding and jumping since I was 7 years old. I barely use a crop. To me that alone is too much. Totally agree!
I’m sorry, WHAT??? As a lifelong, non-monied horseperson, that’s a woefully uneducated perspective.
Spurs are a tool, like any other piece of equipment and neither cruel nor abusive when used correctly.
I’ve been riding and training my own in multiple disciplines for over 30 years. Whether I use them or not depends on the work I’m doing. I almost always use them when training dressage because the cue is so much more precise and clear for the horse. A touch by the girth means bend through the ribcage, a touch farther back means move the hind end over and a touch even farther means move the hind end over farther still. Without spurs, the cue is muddied because the zones of contact overlap.
With mine, calf pressure means forward, spur touches are for body/hind end positioning, hand position controls the shoulders and seat bone pressure sets the direction of travel.
But the real question is what’s with all of the rentals? Why is she just throwing money away when she can buy? Is this the new rich thing? Are property taxes so much a burden that they say screw it and just rent?
Summer rentals in the Hamptons are very common.
Wait I thought she already owned a place in the Hamptons?!!! She also has a office/studio in Manhattan so why spend 300k first 3 months stay?!! I guess she isn’t like us worrying about stretching every penny so 🤷♀️
Yowza at 325K for three months stay. Sickening in most respects given the state of the country, but with the twins I’m almost lenient because that wealth came at the cost of their entire childhood.
Almost. Obnoxious to waste the court’s time over a non issue.
Why does she always look like she’s in pain?
