Duchess Kate is like Prince Philip, ‘merely a supportive figure’ to her spouse??

166528PCN_TroopingtheColour169

People Magazine’s “It’s So Hard to be a Perfect Top CEO Like Duchess Kate” cover story is the gift that keeps on giving, just as the Tatler debacle was also a gossip gift. The two cover stories are related – Kate and her people bungled the Tatler cover story, which is why they went to People Magazine for a mulligan/do-over. The themes are exactly the same: Kate is very keen and hard-working, which is a good thing because Evil Meghan and Evil Harry left Kate in the lurch with a “phenomenal workload.” When asked to describe this very hard work, a tumbleweed rolled past without comment. Now Kate and People Magazine are putting me in a difficult position with this latest excerpt: I now have to defend Prince Philip, I think? Because Kate thinks that she’s the second coming of Prince Philip. Well…

Part of Kate Middleton’s strength as future Queen lies in her partnership with husband Prince William.

“In one sense hers and William’s was a modern royal marriage, in that it was a love match,” Sarah Gristwood, author of Elizabeth: The Queen and the Crown, tells PEOPLE in this week’s cover story. “But in another it has been old-fashioned. She mostly appears as a supportive figure to her husband.”

That supportive role is vastly important to the future monarch. And while she is a star in her own right, Kate knows her place within the royal family.

“She’s never trying to outshine him in any way,” says royal biographer Penny Junor. “I think that Kate is a bit like Prince Philip supporting the Queen. She doesn’t outshine William but still has a lot to say herself.”

Indeed, Kate has increasingly found her confidence with her royal work. “Catherine is the sort of woman who will take on whatever she needs to,” says a close source. “If she needs to step up to the plate, she does it—and she always has. She and William are a formidable team.”

[From People]

When Elizabeth and Philip first married, he was still in the Navy, having already served in the Pacific theater during World War II. When Elizabeth became Queen, Philip gave up his Naval career and he carved out a position for himself as the Queen’s consort, creating all kinds of sports awards, science awards, investments in medicine and more. He was the voice in Elizabeth’s ear encouraging her to modernize all aspects of her reign. Yes, he was also racist and a rampant womanizer too, but my point is that Philip WORKED. He did a hell of a lot behind-the-scenes, he reorganized Buckingham Palace and he revolutionized what a consort does, only to see his contributions devalued as merely vague “support.” Kate and her people want to rewrite and minimize Philip’s legacy just to have an answer for Kate’s historic dullness and laziness.

I’m convinced the more they embiggen and make Kate and William the end all be all of the monarchy, they’re setting them up for a huge fall. This is not engaging or the least bit newsworthy. That affair and other dirt will be revealed eventually. Maybe not now but sooner or later it will because this nonsense is just eye roll worthy at this point. They’re still boring, dull and using the Children as a crutch is wearing thin.

    • Tessa says:

It is so awful to try to compare lazy Kate with Prince Philip. Philip worked very hard his entire life. He was a navy officer before he married Princess Elizabeth and would have continued to do so had George VI not passed on at a relatively young age. Lazy Kate just waited for the ring.

    • clomo says:

I agree Bri, and little George will most likely want to live a normal life as his access to social media will open his eyes as to how abnormal and isolating his families life is.

      • Tessa says:

As they get older I think the children will feel resentful being put in the public eye for PR purposes.

  2. Daisyfly says:

At this rate, she’s more like his pair of cement shoes.

  3. Bettyrose says:

Are they also saying Liz & Philip were not a love match?

    • Digital Unicorn says:

Yes, they are. It just shows how low these 2 twits will sink to embiggen themselves – dragging down 2 very elderly people who very clearly were a love match.

      • Nic919 says:

The amount of affection seen by Liz and Phil, despite his affairs, has always been far more obvious and took place in a time when society was less ok with physical touching between the opposite sex. Liz never physically repulsed him.

Meanwhile the lazy duo consistently act like they barely live together and William acts like she’s a fly to be swatted. Did Phil ever roll his eyes during one of Elizabeth’s speeches? Hell no.

      • Digital Unicorn says:

@Nic – In a matter of a few years Kate has gone from throwing herself at William at every opportunity to being repulsed by him as he is by her. Some serious sh!t has gone down – guess there won’t be a repeat of the balcony incident in the South of France then.

Once upon a time she craved his attention and positive reinforcement but now…..

      • BayTampaBay says:

        “Rose Who?” LOL! LOL!

Did not Charles once to say to Diana when fighting about Camilla in Annabel’s , “You got the ring, you got the title, you provided the heirs, the public loves you and you will get the crown. What more do you want?”

      • Nic919 says:

It’s obvious that post rose gardening things have been different. The puppy dog look isn’t there anymore.

Twitter has had rumbles of a potential paternity suit. Who knows if it is accurate. Also doubtful this would be Rose. But when Kate disappeared last March and April and then got an RVO, something bigger than usual went down. And it would explain a media blackout for something that people assumed was a simple affair.

      • Andrew’s Nemesis says:

@Nic19 A paternity suit? Really? Please please tell us more!

-And how many more times can a woman ‘grow in confidence’ and ‘come into her own’? What is it that she has ‘done’, precisely, save i) copy the struggle survey from an APA101 textbook ii) taken credit for a garden that other people designed iii) taken credit for a log seat that other people designed iv) watch her charities close v) let down a hundred year tradition vi) spent an absolute fortune on identical boob-buttony coat dresses vii) used the children to take the heat off her viii) been absolutely vile to her lovely, charming and then-pregnant sister in law? Anyone?

      • bettyrose says:

        BayTampaBay –
UUUUGGGGHHH! I don’t know where to begin with the mentality that a woman shouldn’t need affection, partnership, sexual fulfillment, etc. from a marriage, as long as she has money and status. Still, in some cases, it’s also kinda hard to feel bad for someone who knowingly enters a marriage without those things and then expects them (not Diana. I have the sense that Diana really did think they were in love prior to the wedding).

      • Nic919 says:

@AN – I do not have more information. I can only say that I saw twitter discussions last week about a possible paternity suit being kept from the press, which is something I had not seen mentioned before. It is possible that this isn’t real. After all you can’t really hide a child, as much as Boris has tried. But the UK media keeps too much quiet for certain elite persons. And a media blackout over a paternity suit makes more sense than doing it for mention of just an affair.

      • Becks1 says:

@nic919 – ooooohhhhh. I doubt its true, but we always said there had to be “something” more than just the affair with Rose for Will to go ballistic like that.

Honestly, I wonder if they are going to announce a divorce, and that was the reason for the blackout, they wanted to get ahead of the story and not have it come out in drips, but then after Sussexit and the pandemic things have changed a bit?

I just never understood why the press would stand down on rumors of William’s affair (especially if it was a well-known secret) – even with the potential for lawsuits it would have been a huge story and gotten a lot of coverage (i.e. clicks.) but something else being involved (like a divorce, or a child) would make the press tread a lot more carefully.

      • anotherlily says:

@Nic19 “Twitter has had rumbles of a potential paternity suit. Who knows if it is accurate. Also doubtful this would be Rose.” I’ve wondered about this too. Thoughts that occur : Perhaps William is the father of Rose’s daughter; or even the father of all her children. When William broke up with Kate in 2007 he was reported to be involved with “a well-connected young woman” . This wasn’t Isabella Calthorpe with whom he also had an involvement. Rose Hanbury and her sister moved in the same social circles as William. David Rocksavage was in his 40s in 2009 when he married Rose who was already pregnant with twin boys. He was/is reputed to be bi-sexual or gay and to spend a lot of time in France with a male friend. As the Marquess of Cholmondeley he needed an heir which meant he had to be married and have a son born within marriage. In UK law any child born within a marriage is regarded as the legitimate child of the husband. It does seem significant that the marriage took place only when Rose was around five months pregnant with boys. The engagement, wedding and announcement of the pregnancy all took place within a few days.

      • paddyjr says:

For all Philip’s faults, there is no doubt he and TQ are a love match. Even now in photos, they look as happy and in love as they did when they were young. Their marriage may not be perfect but Philip seems to have been a good support for her and what they have, whatever issues or problems, seems to be enough. W&K lately seem like they can’t be in the same same room for longer than a Zoom meeting.

    • Tessa says:

Elizabeth and Philip were a love match. William “settled” for Kate.

      • Seraphina says:

I think For Lizzy it was a love match, for PP not so much. He knew he had a golden goose and that helped make it a love match for him too. If he truly loved her he would not have had all those side pieces.

      • Tessa says:

They did marry for love. But she always had the upper hand in the marriage, being the monarch. she probably ostriched re: other women.

      • booboocita says:

I know “The Crown” is a TV show, and not a historical artifact. But I honestly believe that one of the things the show got spot-on is the relationship between TQ and Philip. Loving, caring, and supportive, but not without its resentments and jealousies. And given all the rumors about Philip’s affairs and womanizing while Liz looks the other way, I’d say that the show’s examination of his anger at being pushed into a secondary role in his own marriage is quite accurate.

      • February-Pisces says:

Phillip has always been supportive to an extent and in the grand scheme of things has been the queens back bone. Phillip is an alpha and seems to say what the queen can’t as she seems to hate conflict. But while I don’t doubt their closeness there was also a distance between them too. Her being monarch is like having a massive wall between them that Phillip will never be able to jump over. I always thought she did everything to reassure Phillip that he was very much the man of the house, but he could never be king of the castle.

I see them as being united, yet independent from each other too. I always think of the queen as a single lady, I forget she still has a man lol.

    • Coco says:

Queen Elizabeth’s parents were a love match. David/Edward and Wallis Simpson were a love match. Queen Victoria and Prince Albert were a love match. Yes, they were thrown together by older relatives in the hopes they would marry, but they had a choice of whether or not to marry each other. Charles and Diana is the only recent British Royal marriage that wasn’t, and even then Diana thought it was.
I don’t know what point the magazine article thinks it’s making.

  4. Priscila Bezerra-Fischer says:

“When asked to describe this very hard work, a tumbleweed rolled past without comment. ”

Lol…oh my God, I am seeing the tumbleweed from my window, I swear!

  5. Jay says:

Imagine if your best quality was that you never tried to outshine your spouse (unlike SOME try hard, non tights-wearing actresses we could name, says the Not Subtle Subtext). Devastating.

So, which is it, Kate? Are you working full out as a top CEO, or you COULD be really amazing if you tried, but you’ve been holding back out of respect for your fragile spouse?

    • Molly says:

Lol. She’s back to an old method from the girlfriend years of throwing William and the BRF under the bus for why she can’t work more. Kate’s just running around in all directions right now. She just cannot let this go.

Their stans used to blame Charles’ jealousy for William and Kate not working more. Who would find it appealing that a woman is dimming her potential so that she doesn’t outshine her husband? How regressive is their messaging?

And they missed a golden opportunity to really play up how much Kate has relished spending time with her children during quarantine and how that has brought them closer as a family etc.

      • Natters5 says:

The funny thing is also that it really doesn’t take much to outshine Wills. Anyway I am so tired of how hard they work at their image of the perfect family. People know when you are not genuine. Queen Leticia and her family are a great example of how you can be a great example and genuine at the same time. Plus she’s a hard worker.

    • Becks1 says:

I also don’t think these writers realize that the “outshining” thing looks bad – like it makes William seem petty and jealous.

Harry is not fazed by Meghan’s popularity, he loves it. He is so happy and proud when people scream her name, when they cheer for her. It helps that he has charisma and personality of his own, so people don’t just ignore him either lol, but currently Meghan is the mega- star in that relationship and Harry appears to be more than fine with it. He’s confident and comfortable in his own skin, he doesn’t need his wife to diminish her “light” to make him feel better about himself.

William, apparently, does need Kate to diminish her “light,” at least according to these stories. Its not a good look for him.

      • BayTampaBay says:

King Willem-Alexander feels exactly the same way about Queen Maxima. Willem-Alexander is so very proud the people of the Netherlands love and respect Maxima as much as he does.

      • ShazBot says:

was this not also a major criticism of Charles re: Diana – how she had to dim her light because he was so jealous and scared of her outshining him?

maybe Carole is taking her Diana SWF too far without thinking it through

    • anotherlily says:

It wouldn’t take much to outshine William. Cambridge PR is getting desperate now. Around Christmas time last year it was announced that the new year would bring ‘exciting new initiatives’ from the Cambridges. ‘Watch this space’ was the message. They were about to embark on exciting, protocol-defying projects. These turned out to be Kate’s 5-question survey thing and William’s ‘Earthshot Prize described as ‘a multi-million pound prize for “visionaries” working to solve “Earth’s greatest environmental problems,” from climate change to air pollution. The Earthshot Prize will be awarded to five winners, every year, for the next 10 years’. He probably thinks this will be the equivalent of Charles’ ‘Prince’s Trust’. It won’t be.

      • The Duchess says:

Have we had any more information on ‘The Earthshot Prize’ and what it plans on doing further? I remember seeing all that PR farce at New Year from W&K’s camp to try and distract the medias attention Harry’s picture with Archie in Canada was getting. Another flopped initiative from the Lamebridges!!! Lol

      • Molly says:

The Earthshot prize never made any sense. How were they going to pull together enough funding for an awards show in a different country each year with multiple large financial prizes? The format itself was environmentally wasteful and seemed like a pale imitation of the Invictus Games travelling and a way for William to be able to hand out prizes as well.

Honestly, it also seemed like a way to raise money for the Foundation rather than about being serious about the environment. And naturally there would be questions about the people donating the money.

      • RoyalBlue says:

@anotherlily that earthshot prize was dead out of the water. no traction and support whatsoever because there are so many other environmental awards and incentives out there. all the christmas PR push projects fell flat. the mary berry baking special, the four kings pudding making, christmas pap walk with the children, release new pictures of the children, earthshot and the struggle survey. all it took was that picture of harry and archie and the rest of the world turned their gaze and went “awwwwww”

  6. Florence says:

Yeah, well. She has the racist attitude and wrinkly skin, so.

  7. Molly says:

British people don’t say “step up to the plate,” do they? Who is this “very close” but American source?

    • Bettyrose says:

Does one not step up to the plate in Cricket? I honestly don’t know. I didn’t even notice that reference till you pointed it out and now I have questions. Do British teens also not describe sexual accomplishments in baseball references?

      • Molly says:

Apparently it’s “stride to the wicket,” or “step up to the wicket.”

Any British commenters who can help?

    • ShazBot says:

maybe People mag “americanized” the language for their readers?

    • Andrew’s Nemesis says:

@Molly We say ‘step up to the crease,’ the line that the batsman stands behind during overs.

      • bettyrose says:

Thanks, Andrew’s Nemisis! As for the second half of my question, I’ve never thought about this before, but an American teen after their first “make out” session will brag about getting to 1st, 2nd, or 3rd base (depending on the specifics). What’s the British equivalent? I know this is totally off topic, but now I’m curious.

LOL @ Shazbot: People magazine didn’t trust their readers to figure out a slight cultural difference? I believe that.

      • Andrew’s Nemesis says:

        @BettyRose You’re welcome!
For ‘making out’ we usually say ‘snogging’. I don’t know why!

      • Molly says:

        Thank you @Andrew’s Nemesis.

Oof, you know how people have certain words they don’t like? I think I hate the word “crease.”

      • Cairidh says:

British people refer to first second third base due to watching American films, tv shows.
We didn’t have a cricket equivalent.

    • Mary says:

@molly: Poor Jason?; Pelly’s wife?; Skippy’s wife (he seems to like to talk to the Press)?; Gilke (he spent a lot of time in the States); multiple options but my money is on Poor Jason.

    • February-Pisces says:

I’m from the uk and I’m very familiar with the expression ‘step up to the plate’.

  8. Belli says:

“She doesn’t outshine William but still has a lot to say herself.”

Then I wish she’d hurry up and say it!!

    • Alexandria says:

She’s trying her best okay! Just give her 8 years

    • Priscila Bezerra-Fischer says:

Nobody would understand with that crazy accent, Kate had the world’s largest apple stuck on the back of her mouth!

    • Jen says:

      She has said it.

“Can you tell the scent by smelling it?”

“I worked for 8 years on these 5 questions! How dare you doubt them.”

    • Lizzie Bathory says:

She will say something…once she finds her voice. Unfortunately, she keeps misplacing it.

    • Izzy says:

I mean, OK, but who’s going to be able to understand what Marblemouth Keen Kate even says?

    • Natters5 says:

Her only outshining (which to be hair is not hard to outshine Will), is that she try hard to dress like the perfect lady. Her clothes feel like costumes to me not a wardrobe. Same for the way she dresses her kids. Its like everything they do goes through multiple levels of PR image people before its released.

    • anon says:

I feel that this is still a response to the Tatler debacle, as in Kate trying to balance the superlatives from that article with slightly less superlatives in these last few tidbits (don’t compare to Meghan, compare her to Phillip?!?).

I guess Willileaks didn’t like the way he was shown in Tatler either, too much of a beta man.

  9. Becks1 says:

Lordy. KP just cant help themselves, can they?

They are trying to so hard to explain away the Tatler article and it just looks….worse, in a way. Like Kaiser pointed out, when you compare Kate to Prince Phillip, she looks lazy and boring. Phillip is racist, sexist, etc – but at least we know that about him, you know? he has a personality. Kate doesn’t. And that doesn’t even get into the work part of it.

I also don’t understand this line – “if she needs to step up to the plate, she does it.”
first – she is DEFINITELY going to need to step up to the plate. She’s married to the FFK who has a grandmother who is 94 and a father who is 71. She should have stepped up to the plate years ago, which brings me to my second point – LOL, she never steps up and everyone knows it.

    • Nic919 says:

The one thing people never questioned about Phil was that he supported his spouse and set up his own initiatives as well. The Duke of Edinburgh awards are something that even Kate claims as an accomplishment because she’s done so little with her otherwise selfish and materialistic existence.

By 38 Phil was doing more than an eight year survey and shopping. It is shameful to even mention her name with his when it comes to actual royal work.

And while Phil may be racist, can we really say Kate isn’t? She was fine with a painting of a young black servant in her house which had a title that should have rung bells for anyone who is not racist. Considering she decorated KP twice she should have caught it.

      • Becks1 says:

Re: being racist – that’s a good point. I honestly think the whole BRF is racist. If Kate cant bring herself to say “black lives matter,” then I think we know where she stands with that.

      • BayTampaBay says:

@Becks1 – I do not think Kate is racist because I do not think she is capable of such a deep thought or concept comprehension. I doubt she can understand what BLM really is.

      • Nic919 says:

She may not say the n word but is decorating your home with something that objectifies a young black boy not racist? I don’t think being dim is an excuse for thinking that painting is acceptable.

      • Bohemian Angel says:

I think Kate and the Middletons are just as racist as the ‘royal’ family if not more so. She is not as dumb as she looks and sounds when there is another pretty duchess to compete with. Kate prides herself on being very English, which usually rings out alarm bells as more liberal English folk won’t want to focus too much on their Englishness as being seen that way usually equals racist, it has been hijacked by groups such as the NF, BNP, English Defence League and Britain First and therefore they will be called out as racist. Kate and her family have used this in their campaign against Meghan, even her going to the war museum to see what her great grandparent did in the war was an act to show the public she’s English/British and Meghan isn’t and her ancestors fought in the war (which is a big thing here) and Meghan’s didn’t (not that we know that for sure).
Saying Kate is too dumb to be racist is giving her a pass, she is a mean girl and a racist jealous one at that who’s nose was more put out of joint with Meghan joining the family than William was. Just my opinion.

      • BayTampaBay says:

“but is decorating your home with something that objectifies a young black boy not racist?

@Nic19 – Yes! It is VERY racist! However, I do not think the subject of the picture ever registered in her mind. I think she chose the pictures because the colors of the picture look good with the decor of the room. I believe she is that ignorant.

@Bohemian Angel – I do not mean to imply I am giving Kate a pass as she does not deserve a pass.

However, I do believe that she is that unaware and ignorant with respects to the racist picture hanging in her drawing room

      • Lady D says:

She has a degree in art history from a prestigious university Bay. You or I might be able to claim ignorance (barely) but she has no excuse, unless she bought her degree.

      • Bohemian Angel says:

Thank you @ Lady D. Kate knows fine well what that painting means and she really doesn’t give a toss!

      • Becks1 says:

@bohemian and LadyD – I agree that Kate knew and didn’t care.

But, even if she didn’t, and it was just total ignorance, then it may not have been racism but would definitely have been white privilege. She was ignorant about the painting because she could be. Either way its not a good look for her.

      • SomeChick says:

Philip IS racist, and so is Kate, and the whole lot of them.

Being stupid does not prevent racism! Look at the US! If stupidity prevented racism we wouldn’t have nearly the problems we have now.

Most of them are stupid! And ALL of them are WRONG.

    • Golly Gee says:

FFK: that’s short for Favorite Future King, right? /s

  10. Mellie says:

Yeah, no…agree, he’s a horrible person/human. But, you can be a piece of $hit and still be a hard worker.
She’s probably not the worse person in the world, just not very nice and doesn’t want to speak up against the establishment like Meaghan, and a bit of a lazy sheep who does what she’s told, maybe didn’t quite realize what she was getting into with all this WORK. A good mom, she’s fairly pretty, that’s about all I got.

    • Nic919 says:

Phil’s racism was accepted by his time and while not justifiable now can we really say Kate is not racist for her time? Let’s look at the painting she helped choose for KP. What non racist person wants a painting of a young black servant in their living room?

      • anotherlily says:

The young black servant would probably have been a slave. It was fashionable to have finely-dressed slaves. They were regarded as exotic. This painting has the same message as the exotic ‘blackamoor’ brooch worn by Princess Michael to ‘welcome’ Meghan at the Queen’s pre-Christmas lunch.

      • Nic919 says:

Doesn’t that make it even more racist then to hang a painting of a slave in your living room? How different is that from those lawn jockeys?

      • Mellie says:

What painting? Did she really do that? ugh…sorry, I wasn’t aware. I’m not up on absolutely everything royal, probably shouldn’t comment if I’m not. Yuk. Sorry Kate, you do suck all the way around. I still think Phillip is a privileged a-hole….they all are really.

      • Nic919 says:

The painting was noted when the Obamas visited them. They covered up the name plate with a plant for the visit.

  11. Izzy says:

The conflicting narratives are getting dizzying. Is she the Top CEO, Zooming herself into an early grave, or is she the supporting cast in what increasingly looks like a shitshow?

This also brings into much sharper relief one of their issues with Meghan: OF COURSE she outshined them. She was destined to, as the first person of color to marry into the modern BRF, her face is one that resonates with so many throughout the commonwealth. And these white trailer trash in tiaras, instead of harnessing it to make them ALL look amazing, shoved her out the back door and were baffled by the fact that her husband loves her enough to go with her.

    • Ruby_Woo says:

Zooming herself into an early grave! I can’t!

      • Izzy says:

CB and Kaiser have contributed so much to the gossip blog world, but that phrase remains one of the best things of all time.

  12. S808 says:

now I really don’t like her cause I gotta defend that racist bag of bones. In terms of working, she’s not even the 10th of the worker Philip was. Their first 10 years are VASTLY different. Philip worked like a horse as the force behind Elizabeth and managing the image of the royal family. If Kate worked half as hard she wouldn’t need all this pr cause the work would speak for itself. Don’t even get me started on the contradictory narratives.

  13. Seraphina says:

I think Kate knows (because Ma told her) to stay in her place and not outshine Wills. She knows her lane and does not over step. But, there are a perks to be had by not outshining Wills. Wills is a grown adult acting like a spoiled teenager. Maybe his mother’s death caused such trauma that he hasn’t been able to mentally develop past the age of when he lost her and he’s regressed in certain ways. Ma Middleton knows how to handle kids and Wills is one too.

    • BayTampaBay says:

I do not think William’s problems have anything to do with trauma or stagnated mental development.

William is unhappy because he is married to a woman he really did not want to marry and he really does not enjoy being a father all that much.

      • Seraphina says:

@BTB, could it really be that simple??? I chuckle because you may be right. I may be over thinking it and giving him too much benefit of the doubt.

      • Nic919 says:

Kate’s laziness feeds William’s laziness and it is a vicious circle. William was more involved in volunteer work prior to meeting Kate but as the years went on with her they focused on going on holiday. If William married someone with ambition, even a Jecca type, he wouldn’t be quite so lazy himself.

      • ShazBot says:

I think it’s more that HE was the one who was supposed to have it all. HE is going to be King and should have the perfect life. But then couldn’t handle why it was always Harry who seemed happier and more fulfilled? Harry has Sentebale, Invictus, he served in Afghanistan, I don’t think Chelsy loved him because of who he was, I think she loved him because he was fun and they had fun together.
And then along comes Meghan, who lifts up everything that was already good about Harry even higher, and gives him that warm and supportive boost he needs. And they both adore each other to boot.

No, for William – HE was supposed to be the one, but can’t figure out why it seems like Harry won at life. He is a jealous, bitter man with no idea on how to be happy.

      • BayTampaBay says:

” If William married someone with ambition, even a Jecca type, he wouldn’t be quite so lazy himself.”

@Nic19 – Meghan is a Jecca type IMHO. LOL! LOL!

      • Nic919 says:

BTB- I do not disagree with this. I’m sure part of William’s resentment of Meghan is that she actually cares about issues, as Jecca does, and he has a spouse who only cares about staying thin and shopping.

      • windyriver says:

It’s hard to say for sure, since William has been reported as not the nicest kid when very young, and I’m interested to hear he was ever involved in volunteer work (maybe I just forgot) – but I think Carole is a big factor in how he’s ended up. Have wondered before if he would have turned out differently if she hadn’t crossed his path.

I can see the attraction early on, if as reported he was really getting the dose of motherly/family affection he needed, that wasn’t forthcoming from his own family. But here’s a woman, as @Nic so accurately described elsewhere, who’s raised three useless kids who are complete leeches on their partners and society, without an ounce of demonstrable interest or initiatives of their own. Possibly one of the worst influences for a weak, not too bright young man, conflicted and likely angry at his destined role, with all the complications of being Diana’s son, yet raised to think he was special above others, and surrounded by the formality and rigid structure of the RF.

So, he ended up as a self important, angry, pompous jerk with no significant focus or interests of his own, who no other woman was interested in marrying (especially if they had to also be part of the RF). No surprise he’s ended up in a life he didn’t really want, jealous of what his brother has.

I agree with @ShazBot – William, that champion of mental health, likely doesn’t have the skills to figure out what went wrong and why he’s so unhappy. Doesn’t help that he’s surrounded by a bunch of other syncophants out for their own interests and perfectly happy with the status quo.

      • February-Pisces says:

I think that a lot of Williams laziness is a reflection of the hopelessness he feeling in his life. He’s a miserable person stuck married to a woman he does not love. Any woman he actually wants to be with, he can’t. Harry marrying someone he loves who in turn gave him a moral boost to actually do some good in the world, must have irked him.

He doesn’t give af about the job or doing anything meaningful with his life, because in his head he thinks ‘what’s the point’, it’s not gonna change his fate. He’s trapped in a life he didn’t ask for, trapped with a woman who only loves him for his title, and he can’t change a damn thing. Doing the bare minimum is his was of telling them to stick it.

    • Babz says:

This entire comment string is brilliant! I think all of you have captured the essence of what we see coming from the Cambridges. Will is plainly miserable, beset with his own demons, and Kate is simply unable to cope with that, given her own lack of identity and personality. I wonder just how soon in the marriage it became obvious to them that this was not the life they thought they were signing up for. For him, I think it was from the very beginning, but for her, I think it took longer. Now, here they are, both disillusioned, with the spotlight they craved shining straight at them. I saw a video not long ago of them at an engagement, either last fall, or early this winter. They were talking to children, And one little boy told Will, “I love her,” meaning Kate. Without missing a beat, Will said, “I do, too,” and kept on talking. I was stunned that he would even say something so out of character for him, and especially because he doesn’t give off loving husband vibes in public. Too much the opposite. It was an interesting tiny glimpse of him, and I’m still not sure what to make of it.

  14. Talie says:

Well, the “Catherine the Great” era didn’t last too long. William put a stop to that!

  15. ABritGuest says:

Not a fan but Prince Philip was phenomenal in his role. Has the lasting legacy of the Duke of Edinburgh awards, was instrumental in setting up a national engineering academy, was president of the first national WWF body and wrote dozens of books. Top CEO could never. In fact most current royals cannot compare with his impact & work ethic.

Why are Charles& Camilla the actual next in line always ignored in these narratives? And just show your work& actually step up. This hype is OTT

    • notasugarhere says:

Philip – 20,000+ engagements, thousands of speeches, turned both Sandringham and Balmoral into self-sustaining estates. Honestly, the more they try to compare Kate to other royal spouses? It only shows how incredibly lazy and inept she is.

      • Becks1 says:

That’s why part of me thinks this HAS to be trolling, just in a different way than the Tatler article. Like, why even invite the comparison? Philip’s life may not have been what he expected (a long Naval career) but he hustled and made an impact and worked as hard as his wife. His idea of supporting the queen was to work. Kate’s idea is to……wear coatdresses?

    • BayTampaBay says:

“Why are Charles& Camilla the actual next in line always ignored in these narratives? And just show your work& actually step up. This hype is OTT”

Because the readers and commentariat (plus paid bots and AstroTurfing trolls) of the Daily Fail, The Slow and The Dim DO NOT like Charles or Camilla.

Who has a subscription to People other than hair and nail salons. People is nothing but InTouch Weekly with better pictures at a higher cover price.

      • Tessa says:

CHarles and Camilla do have active PR people so they combat astroturfers. I don’t get why Charles and Camilla don’t do more to rein in the Cambridges.

      • ABritGuest says:

I know Charles& Camilla aren’t popular but for an org so obsessed about hierarchy it’s weird that nobody has reigned in all the future Queen articles that went into overdrive when Meghan came on the scene& which always bypass the Cornwalls.

And seems like Kate is hyped way more than even William (hello kingmaker) which is interesting considering even in this piece it says she doesn’t try to outshine him. Curious how he feels about that but maybe he feels Kate being hyped enhances his image.

And yeah the narrative around Kate is so weirdly tradwife now which is a shame as when she was marrying in it was claimed that her& William would help modernize the monarchy.

      • notasugarhere says:

Charles and Camilla are not unpopular, ABritGuest. Most people in the UK do not care about royals, those who do? 99 percent do not care about a failed marriage 30 years ago. Charles is the most accomplished Prince of Wales in history, Camilla is considered fun, intelligent, and engaged with her charities by those who meet her.

  16. Ruby_Woo says:

“She’s never trying to outshine him in any way,” Jesus! They’re not even trying to pretend!

I thought we were going to see a new confident Kate that was going to shine and single-handedly rescue the Monarchy…?

    • Beach Dreams says:

Yeah they need to pick a lane and stay in it. Is Kate the burgeoning star that’s stepping out of her husband’s shadow and taking the reins (a claim made by Tominey and other RRs a few months ago), or is she the dutiful wife that “knows her place” and keeps her head down? It can’t be both.

    • anon says:

“new confident Kate” s so last week…

  17. Edna says:

I’m confused. Is People magazine even available in the U.K.? What’s the point of running to People with this embiggening campaign? Tatler isn’t widely read in the U.S. so most people would not have read or known of the Tatler take down. So there would no point/need to counteract what Tatler wrote in a U.S. gossip publication like People.

Also, Meghan is an American. Are they trying to have a popularity contest and compete with Meg on her home turf? Are folks in the U.S. supposed to love W&K more than H&M? I don’t get it.

    • Priscila Bezerra-Fischer says:

I have been puzzled by it too, but it is not so difficult to understand if you are a narcissist man child married with a robot- it is all a competition for them.

A rational person would know that William already won the monarchy contest by being born first. He does not need to compete a congeniality contest, but Harry moved to USA with Meghan, so Kate and William want to win this too!

    • goofpuff says:

Just trying to reach the racist Kate stans who attack Meghan on the regular. The white women from US who got so offended that Prince Harry married someone who didn’t look like them. Same racist idiots who had a meltdown because we had a black president. Same generational racists who murdered an black neighborhood in Tulsa 99 years ago because they were too ‘uppity’. things haven’t changed as much as we think.

    • Nic919 says:

Outside of the bigots, most people prefer Meghan’s ambition and abilities as opposed to silently being lazy in the corner and standing behind your husband. What woman outside of those in religious cults admire a silent submissive mannequin?

    • Golly Gee says:

It may be part of the campaign to play up the supposed qualities of the Cambridges in anticipation of the Sussexe’s book coming out. People is available online don’t forget, so there maybe Brits who go there for celebrity info.

    • Harper says:

Kate has to be on the cover of People because Diana was always on the cover of People, and Diana was always a big seller. So Kate has to be on it too, even though her life has nothing of the drama and excitement that Diana’s did. Still, copiers gotta copy.

      • Tessa says:

I saw many copies left on the newsstands. Kate is boring. Diana was not. Even Fergie helped sell more People magazines than Kate.

  18. Lizzie says:

She is excellent at not shining.

  19. Sarah says:

“she does it – and she always has.”
Errr nope, she has NOT. Very visibly she has never stepped up to anything.

  20. Feeshalori says:

Don’t battle a home-grown American woman on her own turf, you just won’t win.

    • Sparky says:

The Daily Mail (DMIK!!) commentariat would frequently mention that Kate was an English Rose and that “you know who” most definitely wasn’t. Most Americans have no idea what that phrase even means.

  21. Zappy says:

Wasnt she Chaterine the great a couple weeks ago ? Their PR is so bad. You wont gain new fans with these sugary articles, duchess 🙄

  22. Livvers says:

The fact that they are _complimenting_ a woman for “knowing her place” in 2020 is really off-putting to me and just further evidence of how outdated and moribund the monarchy is.

  23. paddingtonjr says:

Ugh, I can’t believe I have to defend Philip! He has done a lot: served in the Navy, written more than a dozen books, founded the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, which has helped more than 500 people. In fact, almost every member of the BRF over the age 18, aside from the Cambridges, has a signature program that can show concrete results: Charles has the Prince’s Trust and Duchy Originals, Camilla has her work with domestic violence victims, Anne has Save the Children, Andrew had Pitch@thePalace and Edward has taken over the DoE Award.

Kate’s “I’m keen and kapable, but I don’t want to overshadow my lazy husband” act may have worked in the pre-Meghan years. But then Meghan came along and showed that it was possible to be a wife, mother and hard-working Duchess. The Cambridges haven’t realized that it’s not enough to be “keen”; people want to see results or just stop talking.

    • Lilly (with the double-L) says:

Yes, I hear that about having to defend PP @paddingtonjr. It’s like trying to both throw an elder under the bus and appeal to those who don’t want to defend PP or excuse his racism… but also show the racists the whites are in control. Stopping talking would have been the stop they should have taken ages ago.

  24. Loretta says:

Cambridges PR stories are more and more embarassing, I can’t!

  25. Margareth says:

“She’s never trying to outshine him in any way” LOL
Poor Karen Keen Kate is a such felicia that she she couldn’t ourshine even a fridge because even the latter would have more personality than her.

  26. Mtec says:

Kate doing “whatever she needs to” is what’s been the problem. She doesn’t WANT to work, but she does what she needs to—meaning the bare minimum whenever someone criticizes her laziness. That’s when she then “needs” to do something, but motivation to do regular, full-time work/charity work has never seemed to come from her wanting to do it, just that it’s her “duty” and she will do what needs to be done. 😑

  27. Tessa says:

The Kate “fearful” of “upstaging William” has been an excuse made for her laziness for years. As I recall Only Prince Charles moaned about being ‘upstaged.” Kate is lazy and boring and would never remotely upstage William even if she tried.

  28. Tessa says:

Junor does not know what she’s talking about. Kate had no career to speak of. Prince Philip had an active career as a navy officer which would have continued had George VI not passed on at a relatively early age. He did not sit around waiting to marry Princess Elizabeth he was active in his own right.

  29. Amy Too says:

They keep doing this thing in these articles where they try to sell us that she’s super busy and has a lot of work to do, that she’s picking up the slack from Meghan leaving, that she’s working harder than ever before (CEO level!!!) but at the same time they say things like “if she’s asked to, she’ll step up to the plate,” “when the BRF needs her, she’ll be ready,” “when X is over, she might do Y.” It can’t be both. They’re contradicting themselves constantly, and they’re always qualifying their claims that she’s going to be so busy, she’s going to be working so hard, she’s been left with all this work, with “…..at some point in the future, later, probably, maybe.”

    • BayTampaBay says:

The lock-down has been the best thing that could have happened to Kuture Kween Katie Keen.

  30. Lisa says:

    Lord. They need to stop.

  31. Beach Dreams says:

The spin is going in different directions. For the past few months the consistent press line has been all about Kate coming into her own power (whatever that entails), being the star of the family, taking control. Now she’s submissive and supportive? There’s certainly been an effort to outshine William in PR if nothing else, so I wonder if this is an attempt at course correction. I’m sure some factions in the palace were displeased with all the “Kate’s stepping out of William’s shadow, she’s become the backbone of the monarchy” articles. The “Catherine the Great” story might’ve been the tipping point because it showed William in such an unflattering light.

  32. Elizabeth says:

Oof. Phillip has done far more than Kate. I honestly can’t think of an active signature issue for her, or one where she’s really contributed. But, I also don’t think Phillip has done that much for the nation as a whole other than support the queen. He wrote dozens of books? (I had no idea.) Can you name one that materially helped the lives of his subjects? But yes, far more than Kate. Expecting royals to make a positive impact (other than nebulous national symbolism) isn’t going to happen with most of them. I definitely admire Sofia for rolling up her sleeves and serving in a hospital during the coronavirus, and Queen E’s time serving as a mechanic (?) in World War Two. But those seem to be outliers.

And let’s not hold up Andrew for comparison, because at least Kate is not dodging international criminal charges right now for raping a trafficked girl. Pitch at the Palace itself was a very troubled initiative, to say the least. Read up on some of the issues with how it was run. Andrew and Sarah seem incapable of doing anything but for their own personal gain.

    • Tessa says:

Philip was an officer in the navy. He had to give up that career after his father in law died. Kate had very sporadic full time work. SHe was on call for William. Philip’s life did not revolve around Princess ELizabeth he had his own career going on.

    • notasugarhere says:

See the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. 450 000+ young people in 140+ countries engaged in improving their physical health. Prince Daniel is doing something similar in Sweden now.

Must preserve the wildlife so there will be something left to shoot, hmm?

      • notasugarhere says:

I know this is difficult for some to understand, but global wildlife and land conservation vs. hunting local UK game are two different things.

  33. Harper says:

I think the Queen, Philip, Ann, Charles and Camilla think Kate is a little ridiculous. They probably do not care if Kate works or not because she is so self-conscious and tongue-tied when she does venture out. She’s pretty much a blank slate that doesn’t really bring anything to the table except being a useful seat-filler next to Man-baby Wills and contributing some good-looking physical traits to the Windsor gene pool. There is no concern on their end about Kate outshining anyone.

I expect that once Charles assumes the throne he’ll be having a sit-down with Wills about whether or not Kate and her Middleton hangers-on are what is best for the crown going forward. Maybe they will determine that someone like the Marchioness (wink wink), might be seen as a more worldly, capable companion to represent the state with the future king. Charles will have the confidence that any negative public opinion about a Wills-Kate separation can be overcome as he managed to wrangle Camilla into the family after truly terrible press coverage. If they want to redirect public opinion about Kate, they will. It’s very easy to say her low work numbers are evidence that she wasn’t a right fit for the family after all and she prefers a private life. If Charles doesn’t want the Middletons near the crown anymore, he’ll push for it.

  34. Andrew’s Nemesis says:

She looks like a bottle of Pepto-Bismol with its cap off in that top photograph.

    • SomeChick says:

LOL! That paper bag style waist doesn’t flatter anyone outside 20 something professional dancers.

I like the hat, tho. As someone else said, she really does make an excellent hat stand.

  35. SophieP says:

You know what? I am sick and tired of this whole literature about “doer Kate”. I wake up every morning and go to work (figuratively speaking at the moment) and haven’t complained not even once. All I hear is she does a fraction of work and complains like crazy. For once, take a decision, don’t announce it to the galaxy, and DO something! ^rant over^

  36. Anne Marie says:

Imagine thinking saying “merly a supportive figure” as a complement! This embiggening campaign is going extreme. They’re setting her up to fail once people start comparing her lack of accomplishments as FFQ to prince Philip’s long list of achievements.

  37. Lizzie says:

    But she is a kingmaker!

    • kelleybelle says:

She’s a broodmare and a royal doormat who waited around for years and did nothing for herself or to prepare for her future role. And she could take some public speaking lessons or polish up there, but nope, nothing. Well sorry, a garden and 5 Questions, which seems to have died on the vine.

      • RedWeatherTiger says:

Well, she did practice the posh accent so that no one can understand anything she says.

      • kelleybelle says:

I’m sure Carole pushed her into that, too.

      • notasugarhere says:

Doubtful, kelleybelle, or both Pip and James would have the same weird fake accent. Kate invented that one on her own.

  38. Detective says:

It’s bizarre to me how much this PR strategy is focused on Kate and Carole, when the biggest risk to the Palace of the Tatler disaster was how it portrayed William—weak, needing to be guided by Kate and mothered by Carole, and fond of hiring psychics (how did that not make more news…). If they’re working to keep people in favor of having a future King William, this constant focus on Kate does nothing to help. Pointing to Philip/Liz as a comparison the year after major rumors about infidelity is just ??? This whole thing makes William seem rather absent or checked out.

    • Lowrider says:

YES ,YES , YES! That’s what I have been saying! William came off absolutely terrible in that Tatler piece. Where is the in depth articles about how he’s finally keen about his role or that he’s heavily dependent on his mother in laws guidance.

    • Nic919 says:

I think this article is an attempt at redirecting the narrative to a more supporting role. As with everything Cambridge it’s not credible because they have never put in the work needed.

    • notasugarhere says:

It does have the feel of a Kate/Carole vs. William PR spin article.

    • MsIam says:

That’s why there are all these Charles/William bonding stories now. That Tatler piece made William look like Carole’s little puppy. I think the light is finally coming on for Will that Kate and the Middletons are out for themselves. Hence the change in tone of Kate running the show CEO style (when we know it’s really Carole) to Kate the supportive doorstop. It’s why I feel in the next year or two that whole bunch including Kate will be kicked to the curb.

    • February-Pisces says:

I feel like the Cambridge’s PR has subtly split in half. The Tatler article was all kate, and even had digs at William, which most likely came from her. I just don’t thing she was expecting it to be written sarcastically. Also William has been cutting Kate out of the picture…literally. The official 2019 Xmas card pic, the black and white one where William is kissing Louis, she wasn’t even in it. There was a picture on an Xmas card that she WAS in that was tweeted by a charity (the tweet has since been deleted) but for some reason William released that other one without her on Xmas day and called it the official family picture. His birthday and Father’s Day photos, she again wasn’t in them. By saying she ‘took the photo’ is a nice cover up.

  39. L4frimaire says:

Ok, I just had to comment on “In one sense hers and William’s was a modern royal marriage, in that it was a love match”. Like what century is this? Like what else would it be (at least a “like“ or “settle” match). It’s not like his alternative was marrying an Austrian princess who brought a peace treaty or some territories into the marriage, not even an aristocratic title or immense wealth. Last I checked, most of their royal European contemporaries are marrying whoever they want as well. Interesting as noted above that they decide to use an American supermarket paper for a do-over of the Tatler debacle. Sure it’s nicer spin but won’t have the same impact the Tatler article had in UK. I guess they assume that magazine won’t be on in the drawing rooms of the posh homes they go to. Also, they obviously haven’t gotten over the sting of Tatler and just moved on.Nor can they let go of blaming the Sussexes. This whole thing is ridiculous. Remember they were the ones who wanted the Sussexes gone. These people have the easiest game plan to follow and their life is mapped out, and they just won’t do it or want to interfere in and piggy back on others lives, because reasons I guess.

  40. Lizzie says:

Perhaps all of this Catherine the Great press is what she was promised to not leave over Rose Who..

  41. TheOriginalMia says:

Phillip supported Elizabeth by working, improving & modernizing her support system and environment. Kate supports and enables William by being his lazy partner in crime, by cosplaying, by turning a blind eye to his infidelities. She’s not an asset to him. She isn’t the closer or the soft touch to his rough edges. She’s just there.

  42. Harla says:

It’s interesting that now that Harry & Meghan are in the US, the Cambridges suddenly want to capture American’s love. All the rag mags in the grocery store last night had Kate on the cover and were all trying to garner sympathy, pity or attention. Needless to say, I burst out laughing!

    • yinyang says:

It’s worse in Canada, we have such passionate monarchist, they think a conversation on how unnecessary these aliens are to our nation is treason, smh republic not happening soon.

  43. Amber says:

I have to say–as much as Kate is not that motivated, I still think she would probably be more dedicated to her work if she weren’t so pre-occupied with not overshadowing her husband. Will doesn’t want his wife to get more attention than he does. I do think Kate is genuinely good with children and would be great at highlighting children’s charities more often, but even if she wanted to, Will would not let that happen because he would be jealous of her getting attention. What she cares about more is getting to be queen one day, so she goes along with Will and appeases him. She’s got her eye on the prize, and has for twenty years. What she doesn’t realize is, in order for the monarchy to stand a fighting chance, it has to deliver something of value to its people. Diana brought the monarchy to its knees; she also modernized it, and used her royal status to de-stigmatize AIDs patients and eradicate the use of land mines. The people loved her because she loved them. Kate hasn’t demonstrated that commitment to the people, and that’s what jeopardizes her future.

    • ABritGuest says:

Thing is though, Kate IS kind of outshining William. Press at engagement focuses on what she’s wearing etc. When they did that big family call recently, Kate made the front pages. There has been way more focus on Kate as future queen consort in recent years then him as future king.

William has even been portrayed as just coming around to the idea of ruling whereas Kate is ready to go, dutiful, the kingmaker etc. Nobody is calling William the role model for nations, bridge builder etc. So I find it strange that he’s ok with these press angles if there’s this idea he doesn’t like her working more if it takes his spotlight.

    • Tessa says:

I don’t think Kate is outshining Will ,What they focus on : her hair and her clothes are very superficial. She is very boring, it is not doing the RF IMO any good to promote her as the “star.” The PR is embarrassing The Kingmaker business is also odd.

    • yinyang says:

They overshadow eachother in laziness. Lol.

    • February-Pisces says:

Do I think she over shadows her husband? Yes but not by much. Do I think she wants to over shadow her husband? Absolutely, hell f*cking yeah!

William made her, he’s the only one who can end her. She knows her marriage is in thin ice, and one day he could be her ultimate nemesis.

But as of now she needs to be on his good side. So when Kate and ma Middleton go off and do their own PR, it only ever mentions Kate alone, and never mentions or embiggens William. It’s her passive aggressive way of trying to get one up on him, and maybe even get ahead of the game. The Tatler article was all her, including ‘exhausted gate’, ‘tights gate’, ‘top ceo‘, ‘king maker’ etc. Not to mention, digs at williams recent comedy sketch with Stephan fry (apparently alone he’s was wooden, and seems much more relaxed with Kate by this side). Also Carole being williams new mummy, and a few digs at her own sister too (living in Kate’s shadow), all came from Kate. She just wasn’t expecting Tatler to go wild and add their own salt to the pot.
Not to mention the rose reference.

William must have been furious with Kate, and I think the over reaction came from him. I don’t think he can control what kate leaks, most likely she does a lot behind his back, I remember a story about how she was in the phone to Katie nicholl and when William walked in she quickly put the phone down.

I think the excuse of not wanting to upstage William work wise is just an excuse, she just can’t be bothered working.

      • notasugarhere says:

In the end, she doesn’t outshine him. Forced press interest in her clothing or her hair might, but not her or her work performance. Hollow Barbie vs. Hollow Ken.

  44. Marigold says:

I’m not a fan or anything, but honestly, I’m sick of womanizing men. I hope Kate does get some strength and outshines William. I would like to see her find a passion and become someone in her own right.

As I said, I’m a Megan and Harry girl. But I loved Diana. She was my generation. And men who treat women like crap make me mad.

I’m in no place to diagnose someone, but I look at Kate and she just seems unhappy. How confining it must be to not be able to reveal your true self- even to friends. Everything we see of her is a carefully curated facade that is probably nothing like who she truly is. I think weight is one thing she is able to control, and so she takes it to the extreme. Perhaps one day we will find out what has really been going on behind the scenes, but I don’t think it’ll be anytime soon.

    • Lowrider says:

Kate doesn’t look unhappy at all IMO. She’s looks pretty content with her lot in life. She worked hard to get to this position and will show a ruthless and mean spirited steak to keep it.

      • Tessa says:

If William wants her out, she will be out. As Diana found out, producing the heir did not protect her from being ousted.

    • yinyang says:

Diana had sad eyes because she was very unhappy going through parents divorce, a cheating husband and divorce herself, this is Kate trying to play Diana, trying to garner sympathy and act like her life isn’t easy. She is not unhappy, she is richest woman on the planet, any misstep will be painted as a positive, her kids have everything they want, and William isn’t going to leave her, she is the happiest woman on earth, she is laughing inside, I think things have turned out BETTER than she expected and she’s living her wildest dreams.

      • Tessa says:

Diana’s sad eyes left after the divorce, she had new goals for her future which unfortunately she did not get to realize. Kate’s and her mother’s ambitions were to get her married off to William. She put up with a very public breakup, headline photos of WIlliam with other women, and the bad press she got from what I believe were from WIlliam’s posh friends who did not like her. I don’t think there is any such thing as a perfect marriage or perfect children. These are human beings. Kate learned to put up and shut up how this will affect her down the road (if WIlliam does not ditch her) is subject to speculation. She may be depressed or act out some way. Royal children are not guaranteed happy lives as history has proven. I don’t think she is the happiest woman on earth, I think there are some frustrations going on in her that her mother tells her to ignore.

    • notasugarhere says:

I wouldn’t project that much depth of feeling or self-awareness onto Kate. She’s as deep as a puddle.

This is the life she has chosen for twenty years. She made it her goal in life to marry a wealthy titled man. She clung to an unfaithful man for 10 years and considered it a ‘win’ to enter into a business arrangement with him.

      • yinyang says:

I agree wih you, nota, I just don’t see it, I don’t see complex human being. She’s pretty easy to figure out. I was looking at her visit pictures today, all of them unattractive and aged, but the one and only good happenstance most dianaesque picture she can find she posts on KP, that is what she puts most effort in- her looks and her carefully crafted appearance, she doesn’t care about the work, that comes secondary to her picture collection, and it shows, she is transparent.

  46. MJM says:

The thing is they aren’t a partnership or a true team. Harry and Meghan are the true team who work together and don’t try to outshine each other. Meghan doesn’t have embiggening articles churned out in magazines on a weekly basis and Harry doesn’t run to select royal reporters to protect and defend him either.

None of these foolish articles talk about William and Kate’s work, they as a team are producing.
William and Kate are do nothing wastrels who rely on a prolific pr machine to provide smoke and mirrors for their lack of initiative and work. Abolish the monarchy before these twits take over.

Philip is a racist ass but had a productive career in the monarchy.

  47. aquarius64 says:

Who thought this was a good story? This makes Kate look weak.

  48. yinyang says:

Kate does photoops to add another picture to her pretty picture collection, there isn’t any more to her, she is satisfied, she loves the money and the fame, if she wasn’t famous we’d be looking at a very different Kate. She is satisfied, and her white supporters are too. She is not passionate about anything, but how much further she can play at being Diana, that’s her life’s work, thats what shes passionate about.

    • Tessa says:

The thing is that why is there the need to blast out PR about How Happy she is. That seems to make her looking like she protests too much so to speak. If she were happy, why would she put out the “I’m SO Happy” PR. something amiss here. Diana and CHarles had substance to them and were interested in their causes and charities. William and Kate to me are a pair of lazy people who can’t seem to get passionate about their causes.

      • Harla says:

Wasn’t Anne Bolyen’s motto “most happy”? And we all know how that turned out.

  49. The Recluse says:

I am done with these titled mediocrities and their antics. I can respect Philip and Liz because they went through WW2, but the grandson and his lazy wife….ugh.

  50. Meg says:

‘Kate in the lurch with a “phenomenal workload.” When asked to describe this very hard work, a tumbleweed rolled past without comment.’
    LMAO! ☺

  51. Lizzie says:

Does Kate realize Meghan has never said a word about her? How embarrassing to be in a feud with someone who forgot you exist.

  52. Cee says:

The only Royal work she has succeeded in so far has been giving birth to the heir and two spares and even in this area it was a team effort as William needed to put int he work, too.

  53. Well-Wisher says:

Maybe she was right in one particular instance, Prince Philip was and still the head of the family. The Tatler article insinuated that William is weak and easily led. In the Harry and Meghan situation she instigated the charge against Meghan but let him think it was his idea.
Otherwise she cannot restate the obvious- She is a work shy manipulator.

  54. Carolind says:

Kate does not deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as Philip. He had his faults as does every human being but he supported the Queen to the hilt and being a shy woman she needed support at times. They went on tours 6/8 weeks long and more and did a proper round of engagements going to every part of the UK. He had his own round of engagements and ran the royal estates. He had a brilliant, innovative mind and was always looking at new ideas. Look wise in his heyday he was a Greek God. My mother, a decade younger so him once and thought him breathtaking. He also set up the magnificent Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme to help young people. It is as popular today as it was in the 1970s, probably more so. People should not be compared but Kate not even as good as a poor shadow of Philip.
