Ingrid Seward: The Sussexes will have to spill royal tea to justify their speaking fees

Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, and Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, attend a roundtable discussion on gender equality!

Ever since the news was confirmed about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex signing on to a paid-public-speaking agency, I’ve been waiting for “palace sources” to run to the Daily Mail and the Sun to speak about how horrified and appalled the royals are at H&M’s uncouth actions. You know it will happen, but I guess those palace sources are waiting for the Sunday papers in Britain. In the meantime, they got Ingrid Seward (that old B) to sniff and roll her eyes at how OBVIOUSLY Harry and Meghan are going to have to sell out the dear royal family to justify their speaking fees. How gauche.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will have to share stories from their royal lives as part of their new £1 million a speech deal, an expert has claimed. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex recently signed a deal with New York-based Harry Walker which describes itself as ‘the world’s leading speaker’s bureau’ and counts the Obamas, Jane Goodall and Oprah Winfrey among the A-list talent on its roster.

And now Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine, has warned the royal couple will be expected to spill details of their time in the firm in order to justify the six-figure fee. Ingrid, who has written biographies of the Queen and Prince Philip told The Mirror: ‘No one wants to pay to hear them sounding off about gender equality and the environment. Harry and Meghan will really have to up their ante, and they will absolutely have to tell some stories about the Royal Family.’

It comes after PR expert Mark Borkowski told The Sun that Harry, 35, and Meghan, 38, will ‘clean up’ in their first gig since stepping down form the royal family three months ago.

They plan to speak on social issues including racial justice, gender equality, the environment and mental health, according to the LA Times.

‘I’m surprised they haven’t done this sooner. It will be one of the great income generators for them. The speaker’s circuit is a natural safe space for them to plunder,’ he added.

[From The Daily Mail]

I mean, I would assume the reason they hadn’t signed onto a speaking agency before now was because of the pandemic and the fact that very few organizations, groups and companies are holding those big meetings, conferences and summits – where a guest speaker might appear – at the moment. Which is one of the reasons why I have my doubts about whether this will even be that big of a revenue stream for Harry and Meghan anyway – it’s not like they’ll even be able to schedule paid speeches every week for various groups, and even if they COULD, they wouldn’t. Their cachet is the fact that they have some mystery and that everyone wants to hear about them and from them. If they give a million speeches to dentists’ associations and hedge-fund summits, that cachet goes down a bit. And no, Harry & Meghan don’t have to spill their guts about the royal family to make money. People actually are interested in what Harry and Meghan have to say about important subjects of the day.

“a natural safe space for them to plunder” – is it just me and my limited knowledge of the english language, as a non native speaker, or was this rude as hell?

    • L84Tea says:

I took the use of the word “plunder” to hint at that they are thieves or robbing people blind.

    • Edna says:

Such a nasty comment meant in a derogatory way. Those RRs and the BM are so hateful and just mad they can’t “plunder” the Sussexes to make money anymore.

    • GuestWho says:

Oh, they absolutely want to imply that there is something nefarious about their earning a good living.

      • Bri says:

After all that complaining about Taxpayer this and that. They just need to admit that they want them back to spend taxpayer money because the money train is slowing down further and further. They don’t want them making money. It’s all about control.

    • Lara says:

Very. Particularly since plunder is regularly paired with pillage and rape: “the soldiers pillaged, raped, and plundered the village.”

    • Nic919 says:

As opposed to the actual plundering done by the royal family over the centuries to acquire their jewels and lands. Let’s take a look at the origin of all their riches…

      • Kriseth says:

I was just thinking the same thing…

I don’t want to hear about the royals from H&M. Them speaking on their experience honestly is enough. Too bad if the other royals who didn’t step up before look awful when exposed.

    • RoyalBlue says:

they are all so nasty in their comments. just like the mean girls in school saying, “no one wants to play with you, you are so dim, what can you offer, you deserve to be poor, enjoy the struggle life, no tiaras for you.”

how do the royal reporters wake up in the morning and decide this is the path they will be taking in life. they are sick.

    • MargaritasForBreakfast says:

I am a Sussex fan and I just took it as there will be a lot of money for them to rack up in public speaking. That their earning potential is huge. I don’t think this one is meant negatively and I’m one who is hyper vigilant about people being shady toward H&M. He just meant they can make a killing which is American slang for make an assload of money. Ok a ton of money.

      • Kkat says:

In the US plunder has a negative meaning.
It’s associated with pirates or brutal colonization.
And is commonly paired with rape, pillage, plunder.
        So this was definitely shade.

  2. L84Tea says:

I don’t see what inside royal dirt has to do with their charity work at all. Just another reason to complain about them.

    • Bri says:

Basically. No one cares about the royals as much as their sycophants in the media would have people believe. As you can see, the interest the royals had with Harry and Meghan disappeared after they left. They don’t care about those bores.

      • Amy Too says:

I’m having trouble replying to people on certain articles, lately. I’m only able to create a new comment. Hopefully it gets better tomorrow with new articles.

ETA: I guess this did show up in the right place! Yay!

I wanted to reply up top to Bri, who was saying something about how only the royals, their sycophants, and the RRs think that everyone is as obsessed with the royals as they are. Only they think that people follow them and want to hear from them only because they’re royals and not for the work they do or the knowledge of certain subjects they have. They even think that their popularity levels and speaking engagement fees should follow their own internal hierarchy, because proximity to the throne is the one and only thing that makes them interesting.

It really just underlined that none of the royal reporters, and most of the royals themselves (especially Will and Kate, who use this woman as their mouthpiece) care about the charity work they do. They see the charity work as something they have to be seen doing as a way to perform their “noblesse oblige” and trick people into thinking they care so that they can continue to get all the royal perks. Will and Kate, especially, see all their charity work as PR opportunities: an opportunity to be photographed wearing buttons, smiling maniacally at little black children, so that they can have “perfect FFQ, the new People’s Princess” articles written about themselves. They can’t understand or even imagine why Harry and Meghan would be paid to speak about issues and their charity work, because they (Will and Kate) don’t care at all about charity work, have very minimal knowledge of “their issues” (mental health, childhood development), and only use their charity work as a ruse for getting their picture in the papers and as a way to compete with other members of the RF and steal their thunder (announcing something on the same day that Meghan or Harry launch a new project, wearing garish all green outfits in a hastily planned Ireland tour for the days Harry and Meghan returned to the U.K. so that they could lure the press coverage away from London).

Articles like these really just underline how shallow will and Kate are and how not seriously they take their “work.”

  3. Nev says:

    oh shut up.

    • kelleybelle says:

Exactly! Another Dickie Arbiter or Katie Nicholl who knows nothing about them and can’t stand it. Sit down and shut up. And then go away.

  4. Bri says:

More like, “We hope they do because we need material because the rest of the royals are boring and we need to make our jobs worthwhile because Harry and Meghan were the moneymakers, never mind the fact that most of the speeches will likely be private and they live all the way in America and we have no access”. I can’t believe how dumb the RF and Media have been because both have lost severely in my opinion. Harry and Meghan truly won and the more they continue to thrive and be successful without either entities, the more irrelevant those entities will become. That’s why they can’t keep their names out of the mouths.

    • truthSF says:

“We hope they do because we need material because the rest of the royals are boring and we need to make our jobs worthwhile because Harry and Meghan were the moneymakers, never mind the fact that most of the speeches will likely be private and they live all the way in America and we have no access”.

This exactly Bri! The fact that after a few weeks of barely coming up with believable stories, they now have all these new theories on H&M because of this new information that came out over the past 3 days, just shows us how much they need H&M to be more visible, because without them, the RR media well will run as dry as the Sahara desert.

      • (TheOG) jan90067 says:

They will still come up with bullshit, made up stories about what a “source” says what was spoken about at the speech. You KNOW that’s coming.

Not being on SM, only under their own terms on ArchewellGlobal, WILL allow H&M to draw a line between what they consider work, and their private family life.

  5. Elizabeth says:

Ingrid Seward is part of that old guard of royal reportage. She has no idea what she’s talking about. No one at Morgan Stanley or any hedge fund or other organization that is paying money expects them to deliver ‘Royal Tea’ as she put it. And I’m sure they would turn down any speaking engagement that expected that. They will be doing these engagements to raise the profile of the Archewell Foundation. They clearly tested the waters when Harry spoke to JP Morgan back before the pandemic. And so many of these RR are getting paid to spill the so-called ‘royal tea’ they really don’t need Harry and Meghan to do it.

    • BayTampaBay says:

Ingrid Seward is the person who I believe use to be the editor of Majesty Magazine. Ingrid Seward was one of the few British Commentators who had a knife out for Diana from the very beginning and if the truth be told does not like Camilla. It is rumored the Ingrid Seward has always been and/or is truly in-love with Prince Charles. Ingrid Seward is also “friends” with The Princess Royal and Andrew Parker-Bowles.

      • FicklePickle says:

Aaaand she was the one that decided to use her column space to beg Harry to take back her niece when they broke up. I would not say this woman has a dog in this fight so much as she IS a dog in this fight.

      • NatureLover says:

@FicklePickle, let’s just call her a dog, it seems more fitting. Plus, who the hell is she to be talking about H & M? She has no business speaking about them and we all know how private they are and would refuse to spill any type of royal information to gain a speaking spot. Plus, no one here in the states could care less about The Firm. They are all just petty and pissed that they no longer have their cash cows around to milk for every cent.
And as another commentator wrote, what does a person have in their heart to wake up in the morning and spout such hateful words towards H & M when they have done nothing to them? How can people be so hateful?

    • Tessa says:

Seward’s deceased husband went to school with Charles. Diana was the Golden Girl for Seward and the knives did not come out until she started falling out of favor with Charles.

      • BayTampaBay says:

Thanks Tessa for your clarification. I read an early book by Seward (and still have it on the shelf) where she called Diana a “certified nut job” who needed to be “taken into care”.

      • Tessa says:

I recall she started going after Diana in the late nineties. She had a book out called the Queen ANd Di which did a hatchet job on Diana. Her columns also took her on.

      • Candikat says:

Check out old videos of Seward from the early-mid eighties. She SWFs Diana so hard: same hair, same voice, same chin-down/eyes-up pose. It’s obvious and quite creepy.

      • BayTampaBay says:

I always get Penny Junor and Ingrid Stewart mixed up so I googled to make sure I knew who I was talking about. Penny Junor seems a little less evil than Ingrid Seward.

    • windyriver says:

According to Harper’s (which Omid writes for, though this isn’t his article) – “BAZAAR can confirm that Harry and Meghan have no plans to partake in any speaking engagements regarding the royal family.” The article is about them signing with the Harry Walker agency, and they appear to have that information from a reliable source.

I’m sure Ingrid, in her bubble, believes everyone everywhere is interested in royal gossip above all else.

  6. GuestWho says:

The bitterness of these people is still astonishing!

And the constant inflating of monetary figures regarding anything these two do is sort of hilarious at this point. A million pounds per speech? Who ever said that?! Who would ever think that?

‘No one wants to pay to hear them sounding off about gender equality and the environment.’ Yes, people do want to hear them speak about those things – throw in veterans’ issues and it’s what the two of them have been speaking about publicly for a decade or more. The fact that they can’t understand that H&M have enormous value beyond ribbon cutting and photo ops is, again, astonishing.

    • Mich says:

I totally want to hear Meghan talk about drawing personal boundaries and practicing self-care during times of unimaginable stress. What comes very naturally to her has been a lifelong struggle for me. If she wrote a book on it, I would buy it pre-print.

      • Cine Johnson says:

She was an actress before she was very briefly a “royal”. I really don’t see why so many people value what she has to say.

      • Blanche says:

        @Cine Johnson
If you can’t or don’t see why many people value what Meghan has to say then know you’re a certified nutter. Meghan has been advocating for women’s’ rights for decades and will continue to do so and I, as a WOC, appreciate having such a charismatic advocate in my corner.

But hey, if hate and ignorance are what you want, there’re other members of the RF willing to provide that.

      • notasugarhere says:

And yet, Cine, here you are being so interested in her you just had to make a hateful, ignorant comment. Clearly you know nothing about Meghan, merely that she married your internet boyfriend and you’re mad.

    • paddingtonjr says:

@GuestWho apparently Ingrid has not been paying attention to Harry’s work over the last decade: Invictus has become a well-respected organization and Harry has become known for his work with veterans, especially regarding the mental health of veterans. Meghan has been volunteering with organizations focusing on gender equality for a number of years and has been speaking publicly about issues important to her for at least 10 years.

    • molly says:

The “million pounds per speech” is the same people who state their security will cost $20M a year.

    • Olivia says:

@GuestWho… they know H&M’ value, its a combination of jealousy, pettiness and wilful ignorance that consistently put them in denial. It’s akin to your boyfriend leaving you for a super hot model-ish girl. You know you’re not in the same league with the new girl and chances are he’ll probably never come back to you. Notice how Sharon Stone was gushing about them yesterday(the video is circulating on twitter).H&M are rolling with big corporate firms, and RR’ realising they’ll never be back is a big blow to them. The smear campaign has elevated Meghan’s status to unparalleled heights. She’s “arguably” the most famous woman in the world right now. Imagine my employer telling me we’ll have Meghan speaking to staff today, I can’t fathom how elated and the extra preparedness I will make just for the day. Even the Meghan haters will be star struck upon meeting her.She is a hot commodity, and I’m not using commodity in a nasty way. Just emphasising she’s “unprice-able” lol if that’s a word. she coughs and every news channel in the world is reporting. Both BRF and the RR’s made a big mistake and I hope they’re are regretting it now.

      • Mimi says:

I see their attraction as members of the Royal family , but as time goes on what special wisdom they have to impart. They are kind of a wasting asset and should make as much as they can as fast as they can.

      • BayTampaBay says:

If the Sussexes are able to build a successful charitable foundation (like Angelina Jolie) then the press will never lose interest. Success breeds success.

    • SKF says:

Not to mention that a “six figure” tag on their speeches would make them anywhere from $100,000 to $999,999. $1M per speech would make them seven figure speeches. What a bunch of numpties.

  7. Lara says:

Yes Ms. Seward: no one wants to listen to them, just like no one wants to read about them. So irrelevant, amirite?

  8. Sarah says:

Raises hand – I’d pay, these are all topics of deep interest to them and we’ve seen time and again that they commit and fully do their research on the things they engage with. I’d totally pay to hear one of them talk on one of their topics.

  9. goofpuff says:

they don’t want them to make their own money because that means H&M will never come back to the royal fold if they don’t need the taxpayers to foot their bill. So salty about them making their own money legally instead of stealing it from foundations like the other royals.

i would think British taxpayers would be happy that they won’t need to pay for them anymore. But I guess the racist trolls won’t be happy until Harry abandons his wife and child and come crawling back to be their punching bag.

  10. S808 says:

They wish. Maybe then they actually have something to right about cause lord knows the Keens don’t mobilize clicks. The only thing they’d speak about from their time in that shit show of family is the charities they were able to work with and people they met.

  11. Priscila says:

What she meant is “We don’t want to hear them talking about surviving our racist press, speaking about keeping their family life private as public figures, discussing their work with veterans, their volunteering and get feminist views and most certainly we do not want them to make our RF, with thePefo Prince, Do little Duchess and Incandescent withRage Future Future King look bad by virtue of their existence “

  12. Feeshalori says:

Is the royal family is so important that leading names and power brokers of major industries are clamoring to pay big money to hear their dirty secrets? Ingrid, take a seat.

  13. Harper says:

Honestly, Harry could sit/stand up there and talk about what he ate for breakfast and people would love it. Harry has natural charm and is a people person and so does Meghan. I have been to several events with big name speakers who could dish dirt but the theme of the talk is always some mission or charity. Gossip simply isn’t done at the level of philanthropy that the Sussexes are in. Instead the Sussexes would be expected to talk about Invictus and Sentebale and Archewell and there would be little cards on the table for donations to the causes. The speaking engagements will not only add to the Sussexes pockets but the organizations benefit as well.

The types of organizations that can afford to book Harry and Meghan will be civic and professional organizations for the movers and shakers in the big metro areas–NYC, D.C., Philadelphia, Atlanta, Miami, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Seattle. There are plenty of millionaires and business execs looking to give their money away. Add a nice evening out with Harry and Meghan in attendance to make it special and I predict H&M will be very popular.

  14. Lizzie says:

I wonder what the royal family fears most, that H&M will talk about them or that H&M never do and the royal family slowly fades into obscurity?

  15. Paperclip says:

Honestly…if I were H&M, I’d get radical plastic surgery, really good fake identities, and go live on an island somewhere. Jesus…how they make it thru their days without having rage-strokes is beyond me. All the money in the world wouldn’t be enough. F*****ck! I get stressed just READING this stuff.

    • Lizzie says:

Living well is the best revenge. I like that the BRF sees how happy they are and what a nice life they have.

  16. Alexandria says:

Sure Ingrid. You just defined your job of selling out.

    • Lexistential says:

Right? Talking about the Royal Family is all this old bat has ever done. Of course she is going to assume that’s the only thing Harry and Meghan have going for them because it’s the only thing she does.

  17. Tok says:

In a sense yes, this person is right in that the Sussex power will be in their ability to draw people to their events, not in what they have to say. Let’s be honest – neither have achieved anything nearly so groundbreaking as Obamas or Jane Goodall, and it’s ok. People will still pay thousands for a seat at the table at an event with a non-Obama celebrity because they want to network with other guests who paid thousands to be there as well.

    • GuestWho says:

“neither have achieved anything nearly so groundbreaking as Obamas or Jane Goodall”

They’re not as old as the Obamas or Jane Goodall either. What was Obama famous for in his 30’s? H&M are building the platform. Give them time.

      • BayTampaBay says:

“What was Obama famous for in his 30′s? ”

        Grassroots community organization.

      • GuestWho says:

@BTB – I hope you don’t think I was denigrating the work that Pres Obama did before he became president…that was my point. He was doing what they are doing now. I want to be very, very clear about that. I was just pointing out that you can’t compare what people do in the earlier stages of their work with where others are at the pinnacle.

      • BayTampaBay says:

@GuessWho – Absolutely not! I loved this comment and many others you have written.

I was chiming in behind you that Meghan & Harry are doing in their 30’s EXACTLY what Barrack Obama did in 30’s but from a different angle using their unique platform.

      • ODIE says:

But Obama didn’t have this agency’s representation when he was in his 30s so that’s really not relevant.

      • GuestWho says:

@BTB – good deal. I get sensitive about Obama. I miss him and Michelle in the WH so f*cking much – I honestly get little misty when I see them speak now. I sorely miss having an actual statesman at the helm. How we went from that POTUS to this BLOTUS is a nightmare.

      • MargaritasForBreakfast says:

I just laugh now at people and their need to diminish Harry and Meghan! They’ve already done as much as St. Angelina Jolie, a Kennedy family member or any high profile philanthropist socialite. Harry has developed and managed international charities to benefit veterans and various African issues. Corporations will want to hear his impressions on African issues in order to thwart the Chinese presence in Africa. Meghan has managed to helm the hub and smartworks funding projects in such a way that the charities are forming new collaborations and gaining new sponsors on their own! Not even Charles has done so! Her thoughts on empowering women and girls in multiple cultures and her multilingual abilities will also draw audiences. She’s also been doing work with charitable organizations before she met Harry. Organizations and corporations looking to maximize their philanthropic efforts or community relations in this era of social protest & reform will wisely invest in hearing Harry and Meghan. Those needing to diminish them as uninteresting have underestimated not only their work but also their international audience who really DGAF about the toxic royal family. They are superstars in their own right whether you like it or not.

    • Harla says:

Harry did found 2 wonderful charities, Invictus and Sentabale which isn’t exactly achieving nothing.

    • Olivia says:

Barack Obama wasn’t “famous” for that at the time though? Come on. No one knew who he was until a very deliberate cross into politics. Meghan and Harry probably have similar accomplishments if you compare age for age and more fame at this stage.

      • BayTampaBay says:

        @Olivia – I agree with you 100%.

Barrack Obama built is platform in his 30’s then crossed into politics to have a position. Harry and Meghan are fortunate that they do not have cross into anything to have position and Meghan laid some foundation stones of a platform before she married into the BRF.

    • Sid says:

There are plenty of people on the speaking circuit who haven’t necessarily done anything earth-shattering, but are engaging speakers and have a lot to say on particular subjects. Veterans’ issues, women’s issues, childhood bereavement, the environment, and mental health are all areas where I imagine Meghan and Harry would attract quite a bit of interest for bookings. The fact that they are high profile is even better. And btw, founding/ co-founding a successful charitable organization and an established sporting event, and being invited to speak by UN Women and having an established philanthropic record are hardly things to sneeze at.

      • tcbc says:

I’ve mentioned this several times before on this website, but my former boss makes a low six figures from speaking engagements like these, and she isn’t even famous. She wrote a non-fiction best-seller which got her in the door, but she is a good speaker so she’s been able to make a living at it. And she doesn’t talk about “serious” issues, just vague things like leadership and believing in yourself, etc.

Harry and Megan are actually famous. They’ll do fine. And if you think about it, these kinds of events are really just the business equivalent of club appearances. It doesn’t matter what you say. People just want to be able to brag that they were in the same room as you were, and they will pay for the privilege.

    • Babz says:

I think it’s a case of some of them coming to an H&M event for the royalty, and leaving with a huge appreciation of what these two want to bring to the world and how they plan to do that. In my opinion, you can’t listen to either one of them, and not hear the compassion, the empathy, and the passion for their projects, just flowing from them. When they speak, it’s from a place of authenticity that you can experience. These two are very smart people, with firm goals in mind, and they know just how they plan to achieve those goals. People will come away from their events with a deep appreciation for their work, and much lighter checkbooks as a result!

    • notasugarhere says:

I see the desperate tumblr and Fail fonts (tok) have arrived. Doesn’t work, you know, because the posters on this site know what Harry and Meghan achieved separately and together.

  18. Mel says:

TOK is right. Tbh no one really cares what their opinion is on most subjects. But the networking options would be amazing.

    • GuestWho says:

No one cares what their opinion is? Veterans groups care; the UN cared; wild life conservationists care; women’s groups care. It’s fine that you don’t care, but don’t put your opinions on everybody else when they’ve each been publicly advocating for great causes for over a decade and have been very well received.

    • L4frimaire says:

What an absolutely ignorant thing to say. If no one was interested in what they have to say, an agency of that caliber wouldn’t have signed them. I think they have a lot of insights on lots of different areas beyond their royal life. Also, they certainly have a unique perspective of life with the British tabloids and UK national press in the age of Brexit. I can’t think of anyone else who has had that level of media weaponry turned on them. They don’t need to talk about the Royal family, but they certainly can talk about the reporters surrounding them. People will also want or hear about their approach to philanthropy as well as the uniqueness of their lives, and moving outside the bubble and adjusting to that. It’s ongoing and it’s a new chapter.

    • Beach Dreams says:

I wonder why some are so quick to assert that no one cares what these two have to say. Do you honestly believe that, or is it wishful thinking? Because even after stepping back from senior royal roles, they’re continuing to spark a lot of interest. I’d even wager more eyes will be on them to see how their post-senior royal endeavors develop. There are a good range of issues both of them can discuss, none of which involve royal family drama. They consistently bring plenty of attention and inspire lots of donations to the causes they champion. I think some people are underestimating and downplaying the Sussexes’ potential yet again.

    • Lizzie says:

TBH not even you believe what you wrote. All the KP stans and bots copy and paste this on various blogs.
      Quite boring.

    • Cine Johnson says:

She was an actress before she was very briefly a “royal”. I really don’t see why so many people value what she has to say. I agree with TOK – Harry, sure. A life time of experiences, but Meghan- I don’t get it. She’s kind and strong etc but her only speaking “value” comes from who she married.

      • L4frimaire says:

She did a lot of speaking with organizations and charities before she got married, and you obviously know that, but sure, reduce women to who they married, and erase their actual life history and accomplishments. Why be truthful when you can let your sexism flag fly.

      • MerryGirl says:

Sure Troll…I guess when the United Nations invited her to speak they were using a crystal ball and saw her marrying Harry in the future. Ditto One World Vision. You people are so damn tiresome.

      • MargaritasForBreakfast says:

She has co-authored a book that continues to help the women at the hub community kitchen to this day. She has assisted both the hub and luminary bakery in collaboration with NEW partners and gaining new sponsors. She coordinated a capsule collection for smartworks that gained them international donors and filled their closets for a year. They gained a new sponsor too! Meghan made charity related trips and speeches before she ever met Harry. She is also devoted to empowering women. She also still has fans from her acting days and tons of connections. She has project manager skills of being able to see things through to completion and speaks multiple languages. She does not need to talk about the toxic royals.

      • Lizzie says:

People cared enough about her graduation video. People cared to watch her read a book to Archie. People do care.

      • Nic919 says:

At least she can speak English that everyone understands which is not something the mumble mouth English Rose can do. Who really cares anyway because she’s not going to be giving speeches in other languages.

      • PrincessK says:

Rubbish. Meghan is highly intelligent and had made many speeches before marriage. I would say in the royal family her public speaking impact is only second to Charles. She has spoken at the United Nations.

  19. Margareth says:

I love to see how much the royal reporters are pressed!
They were dreaming of Harry and Meghan moneyless, homeless, friendless who returned to the royal family with their tails between their legs and instead the exact opposite is happening.
Nobody cares about their poor and racist royal family otside UK while the Sussexes make the world news only with a sneeze.

  20. 809Matriarch says:

This Ingrid Seaweed is really reaching here. The british reporters continually try to erase Meghan’s history. Meghan was a featured speaker at the UNITED NATIONS! People were and still are interested in her because she has a unique voice which she carried all her life before and after the RF. She certainly didn’t have to spill royal tea in advance lol to be requested as a speaker and as a contributing writer to some prestigious magazines. Chile please!

  21. Tessa says:

Seward is horrid. She had Diana on the cover of umpteen Majesty covers praising her to the skies. After Diana fell out of favor with the establishment and later, after she died, Seward trashed DIana in her books and in editorial pages of her magazine.. Kate needs to watch her back because if she falls out of favor Seward will give her the “Diana treatment”

  22. Mina_Esq says:

That lady clearly knows nothing about speaking engagements. Sure, speakers are hired for name recognition, but they always speak to skills they have that are relevant to the business that engaged them – leadership, community engagement, persevering under pressure, marketing, etc. We always have a public figure at our firm retreats. They never gossip.

  23. Osty says:

Harry and Meghan spoke at a jp Morgan event and we all don’t know what they talked about, besides most of us in the real world don’t care about the useless figureheads or their so called “tea”

  24. Mtec says:

She sounds just like all those unhinged Meghan haters on Twitter. How she is still allowed to be a “journalist” is beyond me.

    • BayTampaBay says:

      Does Majesty Magazine still sell?

It must because I cannot think of another reason why Ingrid Seward would have opinions that people want to hear on talk shows and/or documentaries.

    • Tessa says:

I don’t think it has a good circulation anymore.

  25. BabsORIG says:

My goodness, this Ingrid Sewerage woman is so stupid. If just a small percentage of Brits care about the royals and the largest number couldn’t give a f@ck about any of them, what makes this woman think the rest of the world is interested to know anything about the stupid royals? Who the heck does she think would pay big dollars to listen to some stupid gossip about the royals? Jeez, some of these people (RRR) can be painfully daft. No one would pay even a dime to hear the Sussexes say anything concerning the royals; we can read about that for free from Celebitchy. But millions of people have been paying for years to attend the Invictus games. Millions paid big money to buy Meghan’s cookbook and the vogue that she edited. That tells you something.sbout where the masses’ interest is in the Sussexes is dear ole Ingrid.

    • Nyro says:

They’re such idiots. If BRF gossip is what the power players at these elite conferences really wanted to hear, then why isn’t the Harry Walker agency clamoring to sign royal reporters? Why isn’t JP Morgan paying Ingrid and the rest of the royal rota rats 200,000 bucks to stand in stage and gossip about the Windsors. These people are nuts. No one cares about their silly royal family like that. Lol

  26. Mumbles says:

The story is inconsistent. First it mentions a £1 million/speech fee and then it references six figures. I think the former is a bit of a stretch. The latter is in the realm of the possible, I suppose.

As for Seward’s assertion, the market will be the ultimate arbiter. But in the end we will never know how much they get paid because a legitimate organization will never disclose that.

  27. Lisa says:

The bitterness is palpable. Oh well they can suck it.

  28. Becks1 says:

I thought it was 500k a pop, that escalated to a million very fast. H&M will be glad to hear that Seward thinks they’re worth that much.

Of course they’re going to make major money this way and I do agree with what others said that they wont be doing a speech once a week or something. I think they’ll each do a few big speeches a year and people will pay to attend – to hear them because they’re the Sussexes, to hear them because they both have interesting things to say, and to network with other people who are there.

Less interesting people get speaking gigs all the time.

The idea that people are going to pay to hear Harry talk about growing up royal is absurd. Not at the kind of events they will be doing.

    • BayTampaBay says:

“I thought it was 500k a pop, that escalated to a million very fast.”

Sorta like the grey Dior dress worn on the Morocco tour that first cost 50,000 pounds but by the end of the day’s new cycle cost 500,000 pounds.

  29. Rae says:

I can’t wait to see Harry and Meghan just do their own thing and leave the likes of Stewart scratching around for relevance.

  30. yinyang says:

Meghan and Harry don’t have to justify nothing!!! Nice try Sewell. Did Obama , Jane Goodall, Oprah…no, then why they. Nobody cares about royals anymore, it’s a sinking ship the less Meghan and Harry identify with it the better. Time for them to move into the future.

  31. MaryContrary says:

She and that horrible Lady Colin Campbell just sound sooooo out of touch with the real world. Things are changing, and they are trying to hang on to some colonial, elitist (WHITE) fantasy where the sun never set on the British Empire. It’s just pathetic. Every one of these stories continue to illustrate how miserable Meghan and Harry would have been to stick around in that environment.

    • Tessa says:

It seems Lady Campbell is targeting the Anti Meghan and Harry bashers who are very eager to see this book. I think she must have printed out the ugly comments from blogs and comments sections to prepare her book. She literally name calls them like the bashers do. I don’t think this prospective audience is as large as she thinks they are.

      • Andrew’s Nemesis says:

Funny how ‘Lady’ Colin Campbell was so well known before her brief marriage, isn’t it… oh, no, wait: she wasn’t: she gained status and influence through her husband. The very thing she accuses Meghan of doing.
I mean, do these people – can these people – really lead such unexamined lives?

      • BayTampaBay says:

I pre-ordered a copy of the book from Barnes & Noble so I can report back to all my fellow CBers on the content so they do not have to buy the book now and can wait for it to hit the clearance tables if they want a copy.

      • Lady D says:

Bay, you do know that if you feed pests they’ll come back, right?

      • PrincessK says:

This is a woman who wrote a book about the sex life of the Queen, she cannot stoop any lower in my opinion. She is beyond awful.

  32. Nic919 says:

Meghan did more with her life than just marry someone famous so she actually has a lot she can talk about. And she can mention all the racist and sexist coverage she has dealt with just for marrying someone white and part of an old institution. The jealousy is oozing out of that article because the reality is that most royals don’t have anything of interest to say, but Harry and Meghan actually do and it has nothing to do with who wears what tiara. People wI’ll pay to hear them speak and that burns many.

    • truthSF says:

      @NIC919
      This! All of this!!!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

    • 809Matriarch says:

Bingo! Nail on the head! Have you ever heard any of those other royals give a speech? Honestly, Petty Betty is as difficult to listen to as Screechy Whiny Kathy Keen. Every speech is read from notes or teleprompters. There is hardly any voice inflection. Just reading in a monotone voice. I have never heard a speech from any of that family other than Harry & Meghan which inspired or moved me. The coerced speech Betty gave after Diana’s death was so obviously insincere. I didn’t get any sense of grief from that woman. Princess Margaret refused to bow her head when Diana’s cortege passed by. What is infuriating the RRs and the RF is the fact that no one on God’s earth would pay top dollar to listen to any of those royal puppets blandly read out a speech composed by the men in grey suits. As someone up thread said, we can get royal tea (if we want it) from Celebitchy, Twitter or Hugo. Ain’t nobody mad but the devil!

      • BayTampaBay says:

        Charles can give a speech.

      • 809Matriarch says:

        “Charles can give a speech”
Yeah, but nobody is going to want to pay to listen to his wheezy asthmatic chats. He is not charismatic.

      • MargaritasForBreakfast says:

Charles does have a very nice baritone speaking voice although very posh. He is interested in a variety of issues and I wouldn’t mind hearing him speak if he hadn’t thrown Harry under the bus and failed to act when his grandson was compared to a chimp

  33. Andrew’s Nemesis says:

Ingrid Sewer is the mistress of doubletalk. Of COURSE she wants H&M to offer royal gossip; since their departure, the unedifying image of Kate baring her veneers at a screen in yet another ‘recycled’ dress and Penis with Teeth rolling his eyes at her doesn’t sell copy. There’s only so much ‘she’s so regal!’ guff the bots can churn out before they’re overpowered by people calling for a Republic. PWT, CEO Wiglet and Gruesome Andrew are the best reasons to end the monarchy we’ve ever had. Hopefully Keir Starmer will pull a Cromwell when he gets into office. Which I hope is very, very soon.

  34. Izzy says:

LMAO that frigid cow doesn’t have a clue how these things work.

  35. Lizzie says:

One narrative is that dolittle is a top CEO and kingmaker and another narrative is that she knows her place. The first from Carole and the second from Bill?

    • Beach Dreams says:

Wrong article Lizzie, but I also noted the contradiction there….it’s interesting, to put it one way.

  36. What...now? says:

I can’t help but laugh at all these bitter tears from the likes of Ingrid Seward. I hope those tears are extra salty! Harry and Meghan are just going forward with their own plans, living their life, and not even looking in the rear view mirror! Later ‘taters!

  37. Florence says:

Ingrown Sewer, being an embarrassment to us all again lmao

  38. ODIE says:

I would think that the content H+M speak about is 0% of the value.

Companies will pay them to show up at events because it will bring attention and publicity. They are household names. People will want to know what Meghan wore and it will generate publicity.

I’ve only heard them voice “nice,” if wishywashy, idealistic opinions about important topics. Not much substance. That’s lovely and probably quite marketable since there’s little risk of their image alienating guests/consumers a company wants to attract.

If they’ll even do this, I don’t know. Or, how often. All they’ve done is secured an agent.

They’ve gone to extreme effort to build a private life. Being a paid by the gig celebrity appearance is kind of opposite. Also, I’m curious how that arrangement will work with their existing patronage relationships. If the agency takes a %, it will likely put limitations on how many UNPAID speaking engagements they can book. Maybe they worked something out for previously existing commitments to charities (and their own charity).

    • S808 says:

I’m not sure what their private life has to do with this. Plenty of speakers also have private lives. This is a job and much more private than being out and about as a working royal as these events, especially with the types events they specifically will be going to, are private.

    • Lizzie Bathory says:

“Wishywashy, idealistic opinions” like “Black lives matter?”

      • 809Matriarch says:

Odie sounds like one of those frustrated haters frantically looking for a way to spew hatred and disdain at Meghan and Harry since they no longer have a social media platform to vandalize with nasty commentary.

      • Lizzie Bathory says:

@809Matriarch That makes sense (not the right word, but I get your point). I guess people miss being able to trash them to their faces. Gross.

    • Jaded says:

ODIE (short for odious?) – if you haven’t noticed we’re in the midst of a global pandemic and a race war ignited by a fascist, white supremacist, criminal president. Right now they have to limit their speaking to Zoom calls, however Meghan certainly spoke upliftingly to the graduating class of her old alma mater and in a few minutes captured exactly what these wonderful kids needed to hear – that they are the future and what they have brings value to change the future. Without having to say “black lives matter” she managed to encompass it with simple, positive language. So no, they won’t talk about wishy-washy crap, they will talk about what everyone from the ground up needs to do and give in order to keep this planet alive, and give young and marginalized people hope in a very hopeless time. They will be a strong voice rising above the babble of racism, misogyny and stupidity.

    • babco says:

      Well said ODIE 🙂

  39. emu says:

Yeah, I actually don’t see where it was reported that they would get $1M per speech. It HAS to be $500k each, right? Michelle Obama’s speaking fee is $200,000. Barack got paid once for $600k.

$1M is insane. I’m not dissing that Meghan and Harry don’t have important views, but not worth $1M.

    • FicklePickle says:

It’s just the usual tabloid inflation and speculation. A $5 coffee is soon transformed into $50 in their hands.

    • MargaritasForBreakfast says:

It was reported that Harry got $750K (close to a million) for the NO Morgan private speech. It’s never been confirmed but nothing is outside the realm of possibility.

  40. Aa says:

What’s funny about this is the last public appearance Meghan made before the dating new broke with Harry was a PAID speaking engagement where Meghan was speaking from her own experience about starting and growing an online business. Military service, Invictus, and Sentabale aside Harry just speaking about the experience of walking with wounded veterans to the South Pole or the actual hands on experience of relocating elephants is interesting enough that people have built paid speaking careers out of less.

    • S808 says:

MUCH less, and this would be a side job at most. Maybe a couple of speeches a year. I don’t see the issue.

  41. TheOriginalMia says:

Beyond clothes, jewels and infidelities, the BRF isn’t that interesting. Harry & Meghan have life experiences they can discuss outside of the BRF. That’s the problem with W&K. There’s nothing there with them. Kate has no personality of her own. William is a dullard who takes his position & title for granted.

  42. CJ says:

“No one wants to pay to hear them sounding off about gender equality and the environment.”

….except that is EXACTLY what people want to hear them say, especially at these speaking gigs. They’ll come in as part of conferences and events themed around these topics, with a bit of star power in between established experts and authorities in the field. And in time, if they continue to do the work (like they’ve shown they are keen to and actually do get on with) then they will be established amongst the experts and authorities in their own right.

what a salty old b*tch Seward is.

  43. Vanessa says:

The Royal Reporters are Bunch of Bitter unhinged stalkers who made lots of money being a bunch of elite racist gossips Zealots who were delighted in bullying a black woman for three years straight. Their the ones who are irrelevant the Sussex’s has never need the Rota that’s why so many of them are angry The Sussex’s didn’t need to give them their phone numbers like William and kate did . The Sussex don’t even have a social media and every time they step out they it’s a big deal in the media they will have press coverage for days they are globally couple now the royal reporters realize with them signing with the speaking company they will have the resources that they need where they wouldn’t need to return back to the royal family. The royal reporters and the Cambridge’s are trying to Sabotage the Sussex’s now before the launch their foundation because once that takes off they will be clipping the Cambridge’s even more than before .

  44. Case says:

The people who want to hear H&M speak respect them for leaving a toxic lifestyle behind, and surely aren’t interested in hearing about it. They’re both smart, thoughtful, philanthropic people, and I have no doubt a lot of places would hire them based on those qualities alone.

  45. Olivia says:

What is she talking about? What pot is Ingrid smoking? Meghan is arguably the most famous woman on the planet right now , as Trevor Noah said no one will ask you “ which Harry and Meghan are you referring to” …they’ve become a household name. Ingrid is just chatting rubbish. Imagine my employer telling me Meghan is coming to our org to give a speech, I’ll leave it there.

  46. Anne Marie says:

Didnt take them time to dig up this women (she’s clearly a walking dead!) to push the palace’s opinions. They talk as if the royals weren’t taking money (look up Charles’s agreements to raise money for Prince’s trust via attending parties or giving speeches or the cambridges charging 50k per couple during NY tour). Apparently only the sussexs arent allowed to do this
They’re all scared because they’re both experienced eloquent speakers who know their work. And this further confirms that these losers lost the control over them

  47. Blerg says:

I love that maroon/burgundy color on Meghan.

I totally hope they dish on the BRF in their talks. I mean, I would want the substance, too, but I like royal gossip…that’s why I’m here. (I’m shallow. Don’t yell at me.)

  48. L4frimaire says:

I seriously doubt the Sussexes will be heeding the utterly useless advice of the likes of Ingrid Seward. I don’t get why these people are so salty about this? They didn’t lie them working for the Royal family, have this weird fixation on Harry, and are still in denial about the actual reality. No one is sitting around waiting for them to catch up. All these people saying they have nothing or talk about are just venting because no one cares what they think either, nor do they have anything of value to add to the Sussexes lives. When you tear down people, don’t be surprised when they pay you with dust while they keep moving forward.

  49. Nev says:

They have no real gossip about them. They are reaching now.

  50. blunt talker says:

That Lady Collins is try and explain why she supports Prince Andrew while trying to harm Harry and Meghan. She said there is a difference between sleeping with an underage girl and a child molester. People should rip her a new one for this type of thinking. Horrible woman and human being.

  51. Rani says:

I don’t really care about what Harry and Meghan have to say about important subjects. Is that an okay opinion to have?
    I also think :
    – this sewage woman is bitter, unhinged and racist. So are most of the royal reporters.
    – I think H&M are fine people and I appreciate they’re trying to become financially independent. It’s the right thing to do and good for them. Hey, if people wanna pay to hear them talk, they have every right to do it and earn money from it. I really like that they’re using their platform in a great way, to support causes.
    – they are doing the royal thing much better than most of the other royals, even though I hate that royalty exists.

So yeah not denying that they can command high speaking fees, they are a huge draw. I’m not even saying that they have nothing to speak about. I just think their *main* draw is their celebrity and charisma, which they should and will deploy for good causes.

If others feel that the substance of their speeches is going to be amazing and helpful to them, that’s fine too. I’m just not one of those people. Oh and lastly, all kinds of questionable people command high speaking fees I imagine, so it’s not something to get riled up about!

  52. Rani says:

Also find it questionable how they are always compared to the Obamas. I mean you can say they’re great without going all the way there and making them Obama-like.

    • L4frimaire says:

The Obama comparisons get really old but their are some superficial similarities in the fact Meghan and Barack have the same birthday, and have somewhat unusual family backgrounds, and are the first ones to crack their respective glass ceilings. There may be some overlap their platforms, lived life experiences , and the racism they deal with at an elite level, but other then that, they are completely different people and couples. A former President and First Lady, and a U.K. prince and Duchess. It’s lazy to compare them and assume they are on the same playing fields and spheres. They are not. They are at different stages in their lives, the Sussexes are just starting to find their voices, and beginning to build what they want. The Obamas are trying to protect their legacy and help take back the Whitehouse in this election year. Also, Harry will always get the passes and privileges none of the other 3 ever will. He’s being treated as someone who betrayed his side, but it’s very different from how his wife will always be regarded. So yeah, the Sussexes have their own unique perspectives that many are interested in hearing about, that extends way beyond palaces and tiaras.

  53. Poisonella says:

I think they were unhappy with their role in the RF. When no one thought it best to work out a compromise with them regarding their duties, and instead started planting negative stories about them in the press- they walked. Rightly so too. They are keeping a low profile which I think a lot of people did not expect. People wanted them to fail. I do think they will be absorbed back into the RF – of their own accord. I firmly believe shifting the focus off the idiot Prince Andrew onto them was a concerted effort on the RF’s agenda to get the heat off him- and it worked!

    • notasugarhere says:

The negative stories about Meghan started in Nov 2016 and never stopped. I don’t think they were unhappy in their royal duties. They were unhappy about being thrown under the bus, the constant racist attacks, and the Firm doing nothing about it. Unhappy with W&K’s attempts to steal the charity money Harry and Meghan raised, W&K trying to take credit for the work Harry and Meghan did.

They have no need to return to the hateful, backstabbing royal fold. The BRF? They need Harry and Meghan, but Harry and Meghan do not want or need them.

  54. AppleTartin says:

Last time I checked the only Plundering going on was Fergie selling access to Andrew to shady businessman. But everyone turned a convenient blind eye to that.

  55. Amy Too says:

I still can’t get over the fact that we have a royal reporter, mouthpiece for the BRF, whose job is to parrot BRF propaganda, indignantly scoffing “No one cares about the issues! No one cares about the charitable aspects of the British royal family!”

Seriously!? How does that make all of their patronages feel? How does that make all of the people they work with on certain issues feel? Probably very much like they’re just being used as props for pro-BRF PR and that their “patrons,” and the people whose job it is to report about the royals’ charity visits, and all of the BRF “fans” who breathlessly follow the family don’t give one solitary f*&@ about any of it. They don’t care, they don’t donate, they’re not listening, and they probably won’t even remember the name of your charity by the time they get to the end of the article about what Kate wore to a visit your charity.

I feel like Sussex fans care. We donate. We know the names of their charities, what they do, and what Harry or Meghan have done for the charity. We buy the cookbooks, the Smartset collection, we organize (on our own) birthday/baby shower/wedding anniversary fundraising drives for the various charities that we know the Sussexes support. But apparently we’re outliers. Apparently, we’re not supposed to care about the issues. We’re just supposed to care about the “tea.”

    • Harla says:

These royal reporters just continue to make a case for getting rid of the royal family. I don’t think they’re trying to but they are and it’s hysterical!!

  56. Gm says:

Initially I think they will get the high fees and be in demand workout spilling the royal tea ( btw that makes feel old -Nirvana) they are attractive, popular, from speeches I’ve heard good speakers and importantly at this time M is a POC . So organizations/ companies/ corporations with deep pockets will find them palatable . Long term we will see, I hope so for them but personally I never predicted they’d leave the royal family so ????

  57. Tessa says:

In the NY Post there is an excerpt from Royals at War. It is so anti Meghan and looks like it was researched going to blog sites that put down Meghan. The royals are made to look like Saints and Meghan is “bad”. ONe book I will not be reading.
