Duchess Kate’s Top CEO Zoom looks are selling out faster than her usual looks

Who has been online shopping more than usual during the pandemic/lockdown? I probably did more online shopping in the first two months than I normally would have, but everything has evened out now. I’ll admit it though, I definitely bought some clothes online because I was bored and/or because there have been some good sales. I think some people have been doing that… with the Duchess of Cambridge’s Zoom looks. Now that more people have more time to shop online, Kate’s deep-cut summer dresses are selling out, even though they’ve probably been in her closet for a while.

Having long been praised for her elegant ensembles, the Duchess of Cambridge wasn’t likely to be donning stained tracksuits as she transitioned to WFH throughout the past few months. Quite the contrary in fact, as Kate’s polished lockdown looks certainly impressed royal fans, who rushed to purchase her favourite pieces online.

According to the MailOnline, five of the outfits the Duchess wore for video calls sold out within days or even hours, with demand for the items reportedly increasing global fashion searches by an average of 86 per cent. The research by Love the Sales gathered information from Google searches, page views and sales figures from a database of four million British shoppers using its website. The findings also reportedly revealed that the Duchess of Sussex’s outfits have seen searches rise by 35 per cent since March. Comparing every outfit worn publicly by Kate and her sister-in-law from April to June this year, the research found that Kate’s 16 outfits – many of which were ‘repeats’ – cost a total of £6,305, while Meghan’s six ensembles cost £1,105.

Although well known for her penchant for Alexander McQueen, Kate has also been lauded for the affordable, high street pieces she incorporates into her wardrobe. During lockdown, these have included a £39.50 Marks & Spencer dress and a £29.99 mustard, puff-sleeved Zara jumper – with the latter prompting a 41 per cent increase in global fashion searches for ‘mustard coloured tops’, after Kate wore the item on a Zoom call in April.

Other hits have included a £129 Ghost dress which the Duchess wore to join in the Clap for Carers with her family on 23, which swiftly sold out after a 121 per cent increase in searches. The blue floral piece proved such a success for the retailer that Ghost subsequently donated profits from the line to NHS charities.

As to how the Duchess’s style has evolved in recent months, the MailOnline quotes celebrity stylist Jessie Stein as stating: ‘The public has seen a different, more personal side of Kate during lockdown and she has embraced summery styles in her outfit choices.’

[From Tatler]

I’ve said this before, but what I find remarkable is how MANY never-before-seen dresses Kate had in her closet in Anmer Hall. I would have assumed (for some reason) that the bulk of Kate’s wardrobe was housed at Kensington Palace because surely there would be more storage space there, right? But no – apparently Kate had an extensive collection of never-before-seen floral summer dresses in her Anmer Hall closet. Either that or she spent the early days of the pandemic in an online shopping binge too, and she was ordering up all of these new mass-market looks for her Zoom calls. The poor sausage, that’s probably why it took her a month to really start Zooming herself into an early grave like a Top CEO. She had to get more dresses! She couldn’t stick with the same old coatdresses for Zoom calls. Also: Meghan has NOT been doing “events” since March, so I have no idea what Tatler is even talking about.

Who wants to dress like her?? I mean those clothes don’t look great on her, and she is essentially a model – super thin, barely any curves, the type of body on which you can put on anything and it will look decent. Built she either chooses frump or over the top grandma’s curtains, and even her jewelry choice (one of the few things I would envy her for, to have the $$$ for anything!) is so blah.

I guess I’m ranty this morning, imagining the type of Karens who watch Keen live or something and then rush to search for an identical dress. Sheep does not begin to describe it…

    • Tanguerita says:

I agree with everything that you say about her taste level ( non-existent). That being said, I also don’t think she has a model figure. She is thin, but that’s where it ends – her legs-to-torso ratio is all wrong.

      • BayTampaBay says:

Summer dresses are really all about the print. Most “true” summer dresses are no where near bodycon and fit like a slightly tailored sack. Kate is just a free online advertisement for pretty summer print dresses. None of the summer print dresses she has worn have been pricey. We are not talking dresses from a Victoria Beckham collection.

Again, Kate is just a free online advertisement.

      • Tessa says:

I don’t see her as having a model figure.

      • minx says:

She could do so much better for herself.. She’s an attractive woman, slender, tall. Still youngish. She could carry off a lot of interesting looks. And get rid of that pageant hair! Give her a haircut along the lines of Queen Letizia’s and the difference would be shocking.

    • megs283 says:

Well…I usually like her style. 🙂

      • Lady D says:

I like a lot of her outfits too, but sometimes she is just so twee with her dressing. Then there’s the Erdems. I personally think every Erdem dress out there should be burnt. She has three outfits I’ve really liked, the lilac one she wore to her honeymoon dinner in LA, the bright yellow Australia tour dress, and a white one with blue flowers on it.

      • Melissa says:

I too like a lot of what she wears. Some things are just obnoxious, but overall I must tend to look matronly/twee most of the time.

    • Lizzie says:

I tend to wear my hub’s tee shirts while working from home, however if I was being recorded to send out to the world I would grab a normal shirt for work from my closet. It’s not rocket science but the bar for praising Top CEO seems to be about an inch off the floor.

    • Mac says:

@Vauvert – calling women whose taste differs from yours “Karens” is an incredibly Karen thing to do.

  2. Tanguerita says:

I can’t get over these shoes in the first pic – they are so, so ugly. They look like hooves.

  3. BUBS says:

Is there nothing more to this woman than the clothes she wears??? Surely, a person’s life has to count for something substantial and not merely superficial stuff!!!

    • Jaded says:

Her life is not substantial. She barely works and when she does it’s pretty superficial.

  4. Noki says:

I wonder when she shops online does she do it herself or with her PA by her side and use her info? Do the Royals have credit/debit cards, lol these are the small details i always find interesting.

    • Sofia says:

There’s a picture of either Edward or Andrew using the ATM so I assume they have cards to pay for things. I always assumed that it they brought from “regular” brands or high street brands, they (or the assistants) would buy it themselves but if they wanted something from Dior, Chanel or one of the luxury brands, they would contact the brand directly and get outfits.

I have always wanted to know what their wardrobe/closet looks like

      • Winnie Cooper’s Mom says:

I would imagine most of the time, Kate has either a stylist or personal shopper bring by certain pieces for her to try on. Gets charged on a house account for the pieces she keeps, and whatever she doesn’t like, she sends back. She might even have someone who shops street styles for her with a card online and they send back whatever she doesn’t like. She literally would never once have to set foot in any store to try on or buy clothes, unless she really just wanted to. Now that is luxury!

      • kessa says:

I can confirm that I have worked for two ultra-luxury brands and that’s what they typically do for super VIPs. Send them boxes of curated pieces in their size and they only get charged for what they keep. Many modern variations like stitchfix and nordstrom trunk club have adopted this model for the masses.

  6. The Duchess says:

I couldn’t think of anything worse than dressing like the Duchess of Keen.

  7. February-Pisces says:

They put the figure for meghan and Kate’s searches from March when the lockdown began and Meghan she hasn’t been seen other than very low key volunteering. In meghan’s video appearances she again was dressed down. Kate has been dolled up for every zoom call. It’s funny cos the daily mail did something similar at the beginning of the year. They said Kate’s outfits have had higher searches than meghans for 2020. That was January and before Meghan was seen, as she was in Canada. I wonder how many searches meghans commonwealth bad bitch tour got? Don’t think the DM will dare say. Either way I wish they would stop trying to embiggen Kate through her wardrobe, she wears very expensive grandma dresses and looks very matronly.

  8. BabsORIG says:

Tatler claws are out, LOL. They just couldn’t help get their digs in. Kate wore 16 outfits during her zooms, compared to Meghan’s 6 (who is documented to have gone out and engaged with masses and done real volunteer work) for the same period of time. Then they give us the price tags, Kate spent 3 times as much on her zoom outfits, again compare to Meghan’s, Tatler is out to get the Cambs, LOL.

  9. Harla says:

Wow, the DM seriously can’t write one article about Kate without mentioning Meghan at least once.

  10. MitzLB says:

I get low-key Michelle Duggar vibes from her hairstyle in those last few photos.

  11. Florence says:

Can confirm Kate’s influence here in the U.K., I myself am currently wearing a three-tiered lacy floral dress with KEEN written across the bum, five layers of bronzer, and am throwing darts at a picture of Meghan.

    I call the look “QuaranKeen”.

    • SomeChick says:

      LOLOL! 😂😂😂

    • Bella DuPont says:

      😂😂😂😂😂😂

    • MarcelMarcel says:

It’s funny how fashion can be so site specific.
I’ve been wearing luscious neutrals with jewel tones & pants while I quietly attend Indigenous Australians rallies. Been focusing on the positive contributions I can make during these chaotic times.
Perhaps we should drink wine & play darts next time I visit London.

    • Olenna says:

      LOL!

    • Peony_Wise says:

Ha ha @Florence! I love that witty image. Too funny! I got a naughty thought of you taking a photo of yourself in such a get-up, with dart poised at a pic of Meghan, and then you submitting the photo to Kate’s Keen Britain Lockdown photography contest. LOL!

Not nice of me, I know. Seriously, I always viewed Kate as boring, but I also used to respect her because I thought she was a decent person with integrity and character. Now that she’s shown her true petty, insecure colors, as well as her mean girl vibe, I truly can’t stand her. I feel sorry for the Cambridge kids.

  12. Anne Marie says:

lol so this is ONLY about searches not sales estimates!!! The embiggening campaign is failing and they’re desperate to make her appear relevant and as if she has influence like Meghan. I mean who in their right mind would buy her 70s matrony outfits???? This is so pathetic

  13. Suze says:

I will admit I really liked that mustard sweater. But then, I’m an autumn.

  14. Watson says:

I normally don’t say much on Kate’s clothing as it’s not my style but i do wonder why she decided to wear a dress that showcased her chest so much. In the first pic i can literally see all of her rib bones and it freaks me out…

    • Watson says:

Just wanted to add that i understand some people naturally have bodies like this. I too have a thin, very boney upper body. However, Kate’s body was never like this pre marriage or early into their marriage. She had a great athletic body, thin, strong but not boney. These pics are a little alarming to be honest.

    • Jaded says:

It freaked me out too. That is just not natural. Something’s going on with her and I imagine it has to do with being forced to spend too much time with a rage monster of a philandering husband, and the financial/media issues incurred when Harry and Meghan separated their foundations and patronages and got chased out of the BRF. Stress affects us all differently – some comfort eat and drink, others lose their appetite and lose weight. When you are already stick thin and start losing weight due to stress, well the answer is Kate Middleton’s very visible ribs.

    • yinyang says:

I think she chooses to be like this, she thinks skinny is her best asset. When she gains wieght during pregnancy she gains on her face, especially her apple cheeks and arms– I don’t think Kate likes this and veers as far as she can from that look. If she WANTED weight she simply has to tell the chef to cook more wholesome substantial full meals. The rich have a harder time staying thin as every indulgent whim of their appetite is fed, the poor for practicality have to cook from home everyday. So I think she is doing this on purpose for vanity. I have friends that are too skinny their ribs show and knees buckle and they go to doctors, they have had this condition even in their teens, it didn’t suddenly show up in their mid twenties.

      • Nic919 says:

Uncle Gary made it a point to say that William likes very thin women, see Jecca and now Rose. The extreme thinness could be a reaction to that too

  15. AMM says:

Every image of Meghan since she returned from the goodbye tour is in athletic gear, or very casual street clothes. Why do they keep trying to compare the two? Meghan is out here in adidas and leggings actually doing work.

    • yinyang says:

Ikr. The narrative that they’ve put on Meghan is so out of whack to reality, and totally reversed with Kate. It makes me downright angry!

  16. Bella DuPont says:

Sadly, she *does* look like she’s in the throes of some eating disorder or the other. 😨

    • Becks1 says:

Its really obvious in the picture from EACH. I hope she is getting help. I remember seeing her at Wimbledon last year in that green dress and thinking she looked painfully thin, and now she looks even thinner. I think that’s part of why we are seeing so many “summery” dresses from her – they’re looser and hide her body.

      • Vava says:

Yes, it’s very obvious she has been losing weight. I doubt she’s getting any help because I doubt she acknowledges there is a problem.

    • Harper says:

Remember in the Richard Kay clap-back article against the Tatler masterpiece it was said that the reference to the KateBot’s thinness was very hurtful? It’s another one of those untouchable subjects, like the Royals always having to work around Will’s tantrums. I think her chest at the EACH visit did look alarming, but co-sign that the green dress at Wimbledon was also memorable in showcasing how little of her is left. The other gasp event was when she wore that black sweater and leopard skin full skirt to one of those kids’ events ( the photo was recently included in a recent CB post), possibly for the 5-questions PR swirl and I remember being taken aback at her look then.

At least Will’s tantrums are hidden behind closed doors but we can’t not see that Kate is disappearing and it’s hard not to comment and wonder if it’s being taken care of. At the least, I hope Kate has a therapist to talk to.

      • manda says:

It has to be hard to when one has no real defined waist. She always looks a bit thick because she does not have an hourglass shape at all. Hence the extreme dieting. She’ll achieve the look even if it has to be from the side!

      • Tessa says:

Will purses his lips and makes those mean faces. He can’t always conceal it.

  17. Becks1 says:

My guess is that Kate did a lot of online shopping in the beginning, lol. Or she may have a completely separate wardrobe at Anmer since she does very few events in Norfolk, generally speaking, so most of her “work wardrobe” is at KP.

I did a lot of shopping in the beginning bc there were so many insane sales, and now I’m like, well its cute that I bought all these work dresses for the summer since I’m not going back to the office any time soon….

  18. Eleonor says:

Well those are mostly summer dresses, she has spent a lot of years vacationing so I bet she got a LOT of dresses we don’t see that often.

  19. Zappy says:

What I got from that article “Kate’s 16 outfits – many of which were ‘repeats’ – cost a total of £6,305, while Meghan’s six ensembles cost £1,105”
Yep, Our CEO Duchess spent a lot of money for outfits for ZOOM CALLS 🙄
And this kind of news was for what? Her influence as fashionista? Lol

  20. yinyang says:

She’s going for the subtle sexy librarian look and feminie, I don’t know. I don’t care about feminine, I like colours and prints and fabrics, they make me happy and so my tops have that element, but most of it hides my body or is combined with lounge pants or jogging pants, tbh. Sometimes if I go out somewhere nice I dress up as it makes my kids happy, but that happens once in a blue moon.

    • yinyang says:

These pictures of Kate playing house on billionaire budget, talk about Marie Antoinette, do other white women actually support this and believe this is money well spent??

  21. Digital Unicorn says:

Her style, right down to the sausage curls, is pure sloany. Go down Kings Road as this is all you will see.

  22. manda says:

A lot of frumpy women looking for 80s secretary cosplay, I guess.

Ugh, some of these summer dress patterns are hideous. Look like cheap nightgowns

  23. Jay says:

I don’t think I would wear any of the dresses Kate gravitates to – too fussy, too 80’s, wouldn’t suit me at all. However, her blazers are a different story! There’s a grey check one she rewears that I would buy in a heartbeat if it didn’t cost the same as my rent…

  24. Mina_Esq says:

Maybe people like the dresses more because they can’t see the tragic shoes that she typically pairs with them? I echo above-poster’s question – who actually aspires to look like Kate? She has the style instincts of my 84 year old grandma. Then again, kind of hard to mess up a floral summer dress.

    • Peony_Wise says:

Kate cosplays quite often. She has no signature style of her own, aside from the crazy buttons and bows, but that’s about trying to copy or channel Diana, seemingly.

IMO, the best Kate has ever looked was during her pregnancy with Louis. She was blooming, and most of her outfits looked really good on her (especially during the tour to Norway I think — it was one of the Scandinavian countries). She seemed to revel in her third pregnancy (after the early illness stages spent at home). Her happiness then was maybe because she didn’t think she’d get to have another child due to Will not being Keen. I think she gained some leverage after his Dad-dancing ski trip embarrassment. Plus, with M&H enjoying a hot romance, the Keens felt the urge early on to be competitive, apparently.

Louis is the wonderful result, and probably it’s a good thing there’s three Cambridge kids, so hopefully too much royal sibling angst might be blunted a bit in the future. It’s not sounding great that George already feels jealous about minor sibling stuff.

  25. Lowrider says:

Kate’s diminishing herself in every way. It’s disturbing that she is worshiped by her stans/royal fans for being elegant and regal. I wonder what they think of Maxima in Netherlands.

    • FicklePickle says:

Iiiiii’m not sure they’re aware that there are other reigning monarchies left in Europe. It’s something of a niche subject, in the US at least.

  26. Flying Fish says:

The only relevant thing about Kate is her horrible sense of style.

  27. Janice Hill says:

Oh no! Is Kate bare legged? How disrespectful to the Queen.
