Donald Trump brags about getting ‘extra credit’ on his dementia cognitive test

Trump Visits St. John's Church

I… don’t even know what to say about this. Donald Trump has returned to one of his favorite subjects, which is that he passed his dementia cognitive test. It was “really hard” and the questions were “really difficult” but he was a big boy and he passed, with extra credit. I wish I was joking about any or all of this but I am not. I actually thought this clip was something from last week, or just part of the Chris Wallace interview which I had not seen. It is not. This is from a new interview with Fox News (where else?). Behold, Trump talking about the cognitive test he took very recently (that’s what he told Wallace)

I’ll admit it, I started laughing when he said “extra points.” This dumb motherf–ker. I’m laughing to keep from crying! We’re so screwed. Even if by some miracle we do end up electing Joe Biden in November, we’re still stuck with this violent white supremacist misogynist dumbass until January!

Daniel Dale with the transcript, OH MY GOD. “They say ‘Nobody gets in order.’ It’s actually not that easy.” “Because I’m cognitively there.” It’s not funny but g–damn it I’m laughing.

He is so proud of himself. Like a little boy who learned how to go potty all by himself

    • Also Ali says:

      Apt description.

      This is narcissism.

It’s funny on one level because of things like this which are obviously silly (a President wanting praise for passing a dementia test) but really scary when you realize that the need for outside approval and to appear to always win drives everything they do with no connection to rational thought.

This is why he has no empathy. There is no room for consideration of the needs and feelings of others because his need for approval and to win is all consuming. No accountability, no remorse, no empathy. Ever.

      • Esmom says:

Exactly. He’s so transparent. And dementia isn’t the issue, imo. It’s his narcissism that’s dangerous, always has been. The reason why he rambles so incoherently is because he can’t be bothered to learn anything. He’s lazy and incurious. He thinks he’s doing just fine winging it, like he’s always done.

      • Allergy says:

Mary Trump says in her book that Donald has been “institutionalized” most of his life. Coddled by wealth, and now in the White House surrounded by people who act like his nurses. On his own, he would probably have never made it in life. Perhaps he could have been a small business hustler. One of those seedy payday loan people.
I never thought I could hate someone so much. I hate the whole family so much.

      • Emma33 says:

Spot on – this is pure narcissism. This time last year, I was in hospital with my alcoholic, narcissist mother who was so proud at being able to pass these simple cognitive tests but was in complete denial about drinking alcohol.

She would be telling people how she was fine because she could count backwards by twos, but would completely ignore any doctors who tried to engage her about her acute pancreatitis and blood clots, all caused by drinking. She died a few months later from her alcoholism. It was absolutely awful.

I think people throw around the word narcissist’ a lot these days. But, just because someone is a self-absorbed a$$hole doesn’t mean they have NPD. If you have NPD you have a serious mental illness that can both threaten your life and/or the lives of people around you. Trumps narcissism has killed people, my mother’s killed her.

    • KellyRyan says:

Per Noel Casler former employee on Celebrity Apprentice he wears Depends. 🙂 He missed the class on potty training.

      • Digital Unicorn says:

He’s allegedly been incontinent for years mostly due to extremely poor diet and his adderall sniffing. Its why his suits are tailored the way they are – to hide them. The are noticeable when he’s in his golfing outfits.

    • Mrs.Krabapple says:

The fact that he thinks there is “extra credit” on this type of test, shows he probably could NOT pass an authentic cognitive test. This is the person the republicans forced onto America. Never forget that.

  2. Aang says:

I’m sure it is easy when you snort some Adderall just before the test.

  3. GR says:

The only thing I’m clinging to is that this monster and his supporters seem to finally be convincing a lot of people that this country needs to change drastically.

    • Betsy says:

I’m giving you a desperate hug across the internet, because that is the only hope we can all cling to. And I’m clinging to it.

  4. Lightpurple says:

This test was TWO years ago. They usually give it, or part of it, every visit. How has he done on subsequent visits. My great aunt, who is is over 90 and HAS dementia, does fairly well on it, particularly the current event and math questions. Remembering the five words and what day/month are her problems. She gets the year right. It doesn’t take 30 minutes, more like 5. And she’s very confident with her answers.

Meanwhile, Nagini is enjoying a vacation in Colorado at our expense and Trump’s brown shirts gassed the mayor of Portland and Trump is siding with Matt Gaetz and Rand Paul in a “girls have cooties” power play against Liz Cheney.

    • Hippiechk says:

      Thank you, Lightpurple. I will never again refer to Ivanka as anything other than “Nagini.” {{chef’s kiss}}

  5. Sumodo1 says:

He’s always begging for approval from the ghost of his father.

  6. Darla says:

I have the same reaction. I know it’s not funny and we’re all probably going to die, but damn did I laugh. This buffoon. this is what white America thinks is our finest.

  7. Imogene says:

He’s so stupid that he does not even realize that he is telling on himself each and every time he does this.

    • Singtress says:

      This is what is embarrassing.

He is so stupid he doesn’t know or care how stupid he is.

One interview he said the doctors were stunned by his results.
      THAT, I can believe.

  8. BeanieBean says:

As POTUS, he’s got nothing else to talk about, really? What a buffoon.

  9. Hollah says:

How much time has he invested in memorizing that string of words to prepare for this interview?

  10. Edna says:

Trump keeps bringing this cognitive test up cause his campaign has been attacking Joe Biden and calling him mentally unfit and cognitively impaired for the Presidency. I’m sure it’s working for his cult members and they’re buying into what Trump’s selling. But everyone else should see that it’s not Biden to worry about, it’s Trump whose mentally unfit.

  11. JJ McClay says:

    Look how well he’s playing 3D chess. He’s a strategic genius. /sarcasm

  12. Sierra says:

Someone on twitter said those words were the words Trump told Epstein whoever he visited that rape island.

Americans, you have 1 last chance to save yourselves this November. Get a majority Senate and remove Trump.

If freaking Texas is trending purple then you have a massive chance to annihilate the Republicans.

  13. Tiffany says:

When I was in college I had to take this test. I would not wake up from my surgery and it was a struggle for it to happen.

When I finally came to I took this test so they can see if there was any brain damage.

This is not a test you brag about.

    Jesus.

    • Chrissy says:

He’s so proud because it was probably the only test he’s ever passed that he ever had to take himself. So pathetic. Please do better in November, America.

      • Tiffany says:

Are we even sure of that because I had to take it more than once before they even moved me out of the ICU.

  14. 10KTurtle says:

President Obama won a Nobel Peace Prize and then we never heard about it again.

  15. Miranda says:

Ooh, extra credit! Sounds like someone’s been studying his Highlights for Children. I think this calls for ice cream, you guys. Two scoops.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: his speech and vocabulary is probably on the same level as that of my 2nd grade students.

  16. Steff says:

    He’s far beyond parody.

  17. Bibliomommy96 says:

I hate Drumph, but I hate how people keep saying how easy it is. I had encephalitis last year, and had to take that cognitive test, I did not pass it the first time. But when I passed it 5 months later, I was so happy!

    • Keessie says:

Your brain was impaired in its basic functionality. That’s what it measures. It is very easy if your healthy. Passing this 5 months post encephalitis is awesome, because it means your brain restored the most important parts. But a president of a super power needs to not be impaired. And luckily his basic functionality seems ok. But that doesn’t mean it’s enough, it just means that he will be able to function on some level. Enough people with developmental delays score fine on a test like this, but have other issues that do not make them fit to take care of themselves.

  18. Limerick says:

Sigh. This man is so annoying.

I give this test to my research study participants. There are no bonus points. It does not matter if you get the words in the correct order. We must follow a very strict script and time line and I am re certified annually with random spot checks during the year.

If a participant asks how they are doing, I smile and say “you are doing fine” and nothing more is allowed. The grade on the exam is weighted based on education level and age. I have never marked a paper 100% because that is not how this works.

Sigh. I just can’t with him any longer.

    • Esmom says:

I know, right? he can’t even speak about the most basic things correctly, which as POTUS, you’d think he would at least try. You don’t “ace” neuropsych type testing like you do a test in school. And so then he has the MAGA crowd parroting the same dumb sh^t, proudly ignorant.

    • paranormalgirl says:

Exactly. I was going to say this, but you said it perfectly.

  19. Ariel says:

I used to feel rage and disgust toward trump supporters.
I’m starting to feel embarrassed for them- also that maybe they should be sterilized.
If they support him they are too racist and stupid to reproduce anything good. (and yes the last sentence is a joke, but just barely)

  20. Spike says:

I took the real test to diagnose cognitive ability & psychological issues.

It took approximately 3 hours. Everyone is correct that this is a very basic test for dementia & cognition.

He’s crowing about the most basic type of test. For him to brag about it or say that he was praised, etc. is the same hyperbolic language he always uses.

Beyond being a narcissist, as well as a sociopath I believe that he fits the criteria for a psychopath. I’m not a therapist but I’ve have far too much experience with it. The person who was in the room when I conceived was more of a sperm donor than what anyone would consider as a parental figure. He fits every thing I mentioned above. He loves Dumpster Fire. They even share the same birthday.

This is a great site which examines them.

  21. Lizzie says:

It’s all fun and games until the secret police are throwing you in unmarked vehicles.
I wonder if this test was given to him in Nov when he made a secret hospital trip, or maybe even more recently if he had a breakdown at the white house.

  22. Valiantly Varnished says:

My mother just took a cognitive test to gauge where she was as far as her dementia. I seriously question what kind of test they gave him. Cognitive testing takes hours. It’s a long process and I HIGHLY doubt he would have been willing to sit there for that long. This is a man who refuses to read full security briefings and has to have them in bullet point form.
In all likelihood they gave him a cursory test like asking him about the day, year, etc.

  23. Nic919 says:

Ronny Jackson did a huge disservice lying for this buffoon early on. He was Obama’s doctor and so people assumed that he was a serious person and not a sycophant so his lies about Dump’s mental state were believed. Had he set off alarm bells from the start perhaps the move to get rid of a mentally unfit president might have been possible. It’s too late and so many have died because of this idiot’s pathologies.

And of course now he runs for a seat in Congress as a Republican.

  24. Kate says:

This post and comments are giving me life today. I read that transcript to my husband and he initially didn’t believe that it was word-for-word. I had to memorize and recite the Emancipation Proclamation in seventh grade, and here the president is bigly proud of remembering Person Woman Man Camera TV.

Gotta laugh so I don’t cry!

    • AmyB says:

@Kate – I know me too! I have to laugh or I will curl up in the fetal position and cry LOL!

The only thing I can think about when Trump describes this – is the Grey’s Anatomy arc when Meredith Grey and McDreamy were doing their Alzheimer’s Trial and Meredith would screen patients by asking them to remember things like this – truck, spoon, tv…or whatever after a period of time. LMAO

Trump is bragging about passing a F**King cognitive test which screens for dementia, and he doesn’t even get it! How are we HERE?!?!

      • Kate says:

@AmyB Right?!? Like…does he understand the subtext of what he’s bragging about? I genuinely and truly think he has it confused with an IQ test. His thought process (such as it is) probably goes like this: cognitive=brain=something something=smart=highest IQ score ever=amazing stable genius!

Someone really should suggest to him all sly… “Wow, you did AMAZING on that first test! I can’t wait to tell the world your score on THIS one! I bet you’ll set a new record! Mensa DEFINITELY offers extra credit…”

  25. jferber says:

I just can’t. Give him the “Evil” test. He’ll get “extra points” on that one, too. Son of a bitch.

  26. Green Eyes says:

My father is given this test every time the evaluate the progression of his Alzheimer’s. My father is 89, grew up in Georgia the eldest of 12 & the son of a dirt poor cotton farmer. My dad only had an 8th grade education w/ GED so he could join the military and send money home.. and was a career soldier. Yet, my dad’s vocabulary is still farther advanced than Trump‘s is with his Ivy League college education. There is no bonus points for order and timing in which responsive answers are given in the repeat the words portion is as important as is order. There is also no extra credit! Another side note the words chosen usually have no rhyme or reason to each other or the person they are given to ex: Apple, rabbit, clock, door, cheese. It would be hilarious if it weren’t so tragic that my father had to give up basically everything and be monitored and this buffoon is a menace and they give him the entire country at his disposal and spoon feed his every whim! It’s a disgrace & a huge 🖕🏼to our entire country and all who live here as well as the world.. and sadly a huge 🖕🏼to every person suffereing from dementia and their families. His enablers make a mockery of it. Please please please make sure every one that can vote does vote so there is no room to doubt who the clear winner is.. we need to get him out of the Oval Office! There is a reason he runs the country like a reality show.. it was an early sign right in everyone’s face of his dementia.. Alzheimer’s (dementia) patients talk about what is familiar and what they know. He knows reality TV, so he applies it to his day still (or rather at this point his handlers do). Key thing with an ALZ patient keep him in a routine.. and they like to talk. So keeping him out doing several Rallies a day not only made him easier to handle and kept him happy.. it was a way to slow down the dementia a bit, keep tantrums from becoming manic & rages (Alzheimer’s have the worst manic rages when upset and can become physically violent w/o knowing it.. explains Trumps behavior with reporters and anyone that questions or as he sees it “is against him”-a classic symptom paranoia. Patients also stick to vocabulary (which gets more limited if not reading, doing puzzles, or things to stimulate the mind). Watching television channels as he does with limited people contact is a way to make ensure decline not stimulate. That’s why everything is beautiful or so big etc.. but always using same phrases and stuck on certain issues and will bring them up when not controlled and on script. I am no doctor, but I have advocated for Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s patients on Capitol Hill, in Congress on both state and country level regarding physicians and programs for our soldiers and young onset for decades. (Among my many illnesses I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease at 28, I am now 55.
I hate to say this but pray he declines mentally on a more rapid scale or that Biden wins because his manic mental episodes and narcissistic personality will destroy our country if he keeps going as is. 🙁

  27. Liz version 700 says:

Oh my God. What sweet hell is this. My dad took those tests after he was dx with Alzheimer’s. It is a measure of whether you have brain damage with from disease or trauma. It is not great if you are getting these tests and really not great if the doctor was surprised at how you did. The only difference That I can see is that my dad was a lovely man morned by many and Trump seems to have no one around him who cares that he is off the rails. But that is the problem with being and evil psychopath… people don’t care when you loose your marbles.

  28. Mina_Esq says:

He is taking screening tests to rule out impairment rather than aptitude tests to show he is smart. I personally would love it if he agreed to take an IQ test and release the results. There is no chance this dumb f**k is over 90 average IQ.

  29. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

    A pebble without a clause.

  30. Olliesmom says:

I am exhausted. Every day it’s something new with these clowns. Vote BLUE on November 3, 2020!

  31. Jay says:

I can’t decide if it’s worse if he doesn’t realize he’s been given an evaluation for cognitive decline, and is genuinely proud that he “aced” the test, or if it’s worse that he thinks we’re all so stupid that we will be impressed.

  32. The Recluse says:

Ugh! When will we be rid of this embarrassing menace?

  33. Also Ali says:

My son had to do a baseline test after a head injury playing youth sports. The say five words and remember them later was part of it. He actually couldn’t do it and was diagnosed with a concussion.

Remembering 5 words is a test for impairment full stop.
