The Cambridges rebuke ‘Finding Freedom’: Kate made ‘vegan’ meals for Meghan

Britain's Prince Harry, his wife Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge arrive at Westminster Abbey for a service to mark the centenary of the Royal Air Force

A big part of the conversation (according to the British press) about Finding Freedom is whether or not Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan participated in it or authorized it in any way. What’s funny about that conversation is that Finding Freedom has landed like a bomb within the royal family and those other royals now feel the need to authorize some of their own leaks in response to the first wave of Finding Freedom excerpts. So instead of having a conversation about how Harry and Meghan are uncouth for (lowkey) authorizing a biography, we are now talking about Daily Mail stories authorized by Kensington Palace to tell the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s side of things.

Clearly, the Cambridges knew that it would get bad when Finding Freedom came out. They know they did H&M dirty. That was part of the reason why Kate was trying to get ahead of FF with that Tatler cover story and the Top-CEO narrative. The early excerpts have Kate willfully snubbing Harry & Meghan on Commonwealth Day, refusing to offer advice or friendship to Meghan when H&M began dating, refusing to give Meghan a ride when they were both going shopping on the same street, and tons more. But Finding Freedom also says that whatever was going on with Kate and Meghan was child’s play compared to the Shakespearean tragedy unfolding between Harry and William. So, what does Team Cambridge have to say about all of this?

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge last night hit back at claims in a bombshell new biography that they actively spurned Meghan Markle. Close friends of William and Kate issued a fierce defence, insisting the couple had ‘rolled out the red carpet’ for Meghan and ‘done all they possibly could’ to welcome the US actress into the Royal Family. According to the friends, the Cambridges ‘welcomed Meghan with open arms’ by inviting her to Anmer Hall, their family home in Norfolk, where Kate personally cooked vegan meals for her brother-in-law’s then fiance. William and Kate also invited Meghan’s friends, bridesmaids and page boys to a party before her wedding to Harry in May 2018, and keen tennis fan Kate asked Meghan to join her in the Royal Box at Wimbledon for two successive years.

‘It’s just completely wrong to suggest they didn’t talk and plain wrong to say the Cambridges weren’t welcoming,’ a friend told The Mail on Sunday. ‘How can you say they weren’t warm or welcoming when they hosted Meghan for Christmas, invited her into their totally private inner sanctum at Anmer Hall and did everything they could to make her feel at home? They personally cooked her favourite vegan food, they couldn’t have been more welcoming.’

According to the book, Meghan was ‘disappointed that she and Kate hadn’t bonded over the unique position they shared’ and was infuriated by persistent media reports – confirmed by Palace aides – that a bust-up during a bridesmaid dress fitting for Princess Charlotte had left Kate in tears.

In an indication of the mistrust that developed between the two women, a friend of the Cambridges acknowledged that Kate had ‘snubbed’ Meghan at the Commonwealth Service in March which marked her last appearance as a working Royal. The friend said her actions were born ‘out of sheer frustration’ at Harry and Meghan’s behaviour over their withdrawal from Royal life, announced on Instagram, and the launch of the Sussex Royal website. The source acknowledged that Kate snubbed Meghan at the West Door of Westminster Abbey, but added: ‘That was after the Sussexes had issued that incendiary statement and website.’

However, allies of the Cambridges accept that the once close relationship between the brothers is now ‘strained’ and best described as ‘on and off’. They said William had been left ‘sad’ and ‘disappointed’ by the claims in Finding Freedom. ‘William had hoped that everyone had moved on, but clearly that’s not the case,’ said a friend. ‘He’s a little sad and disappointed that it’s being raked up all over again. He was extremely upset and hurt at the time [in January when Harry stood down from his duties] and his relationship with his brother is still quite distant. It’s best described as on-off and more off at the moment. He has no plans to see his brother this year, but of course Covid makes that much more difficult [anyway].’

The couple, according to Finding Freedom, became increasingly frustrated at the palace communications operation. However, one former staff member told The Mail on Sunday: ‘It was a very challenging working environment. It was high pressure and extremely stressful… Nothing was ever good enough, they always saw the negative in everything. Nothing is ever their fault, always someone else’s. They are professional victims.’

[From The Daily Mail]

Yes, I’m sure Kate was toiling away in the kitchen making specialty vegan food ALL THE TIME for Meghan, especially given that Meghan is not vegan, and I’m pretty sure Meghan and Harry only stayed at Anmer Hall one time? And yes, Kate snubbed Meghan on purpose on Commonwealth Day but KATE HAD REASONS, of course. How dare Meghan and Harry want to get away after the Cambridges smeared them constantly and tried to exile them? How dare they! And “rolling out the red carpet” – that reminds me of what those pathetic courtiers said about how “welcoming” the Queen was to H&M – the thing that was always said was “well, the Queen let them have the wedding they wanted.” The royals’ version of “accepting” someone new is “well, we let her plan her own wedding” and “we invited her to our home once.”

Britain's Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex leave af

Not this “Meghan is a vegan” nonsense again. The woman has literally said in her own engagement video that she loves roast chicken. So why did Kate cook vegan food? Either 1) Kate didn’t bother to get to know if Meghan is vegan or not or 2) this article is a lie

    • Shane says:

I will die on the hill that option 2 is on 😉

      • Yvette says:

This article is SO a lie. It’s the courtiers trying to clean up Kate’s mess because perfect keen Kate doesn’t have a snooby, rude bone in her body. Her image must be protected. And if they’re going to lie, why choose something that happened 3-months prior to the Commonwealth Day? For all their ‘supposed’ talk about William being angry at the Sussexes for airing private business … isn’t that what Kate did? First they tried to gaslight everyone by saying “Kate did too talk to the Sussexes!” Too bad there’s that pesky video showing what really happened. And it wasn’t just Kate. William ignored them as well. That must have stabbed harry in the heart.

      • February-Pisces says:

Whenever anyone says the word ‘vegan’ with right wing nutters on the DM go mad. It’s like a trigger word. So I guess KP added that little detail to their fan fiction story just to rile up the hate.

      • fluffy_bunny says:

I’m with you. I love meat and would never eat a vegan meal. Maybe if a celebrated chef made it but not Keen Katie.

    • NoWords says:

I thought Meghan mentioned on her blog that she tries to eat a more vegan diet during the week, like she switches off between the two. I swear I recall her mentioning something like that.

      • Flamingo says:

She did say something like that. A lot of people try to cut back on their meat eating for environmental reasons.

      • Sofia says:

And I believe she said that she didn’t even stick to it and wasn’t super strict about it. Plus it was only for filming Suits (which she may have been when this alleged dinner happened but I honestly doubt Kate read The Tig)

    • Elizabeth Kerri Mahon says:

If she did cook vegan food for her it was under the assumption that all American actresses from California must be vegan. And I’m sure Meghan was polite and ate it. But it shows just how little she cared to know her brother-in-law’s girlfriend/wife. And I’m pretty sure that Meghan would have gone to Wimbledon with or without Kate, given that she’s close friends with Serena Williams. I wouldn’t be surprised if Meghan suggested that they show up together at Wimbledon.

    • Marjorie says:

I’d be shocked if Kate can even boil water.

    • theothercleo says:

This article is a lie and the reason it mentions vegan food is because of course the evil biracial californian actress is one of those annoying, preachy, intolerant vegans (obviously not my opinion on veganism but it’s probably what a lot of the Daily Fail readers think).

      • A says:

Also, the implication that vegans are high maintenance and insufferable because they demand that their food preferences be catered to–you know that’s the other thing these people are hinting at too. “Kate went through ALL THAT TROUBLE to make a huge VEGAN MEAL for Meghan, what MORE DO PEOPLE WANT?”

    • Chelsea says:

Another sign this article is a lie; Meghan didnt spend Christmas in the UK in 2016. She was papped with her mom in Toronto and she posted a pic to Instagram saying that she spent Christmas with her parents. Also: the Cambridges spent Christmas with the Middletons that year and missed the Christmas walk. This entire thing is BS. Why lie about things that can be so easily proven false?

      • Becks1 says:

I think they are talking about 2017, when Meghan attended church with the royals, but I don’t see the date anywhere in the article.

      • Sara says:

So if they’re referring to the Christmas church walk that all of the royals do together, that’s when the Queen officially hosts Christmas at Sandringham. The Cambridges wouldn’t have personally invited Meghan to that, the Queen would have. So many lies in this article.

  2. mina says:

I couldn’t stop laughing at the vegan cooking argument!!! This is so sarcastically funny: How dare you say I did not try my best?! I even cooked vegan food for you!!!!

  3. CidyKitty(CidySmiley) says:

    You know what’s odd?

In a weird, messed up way – i think Kate really did think (in the beginning) that she was being nice to Meghan. Im sure she did have her over for dinner, I’m sure they did have shallow sister in Law getting to know you time, but Kate can never and will never understand the position that Meghan was in, and is a much shallower person. So while Meghan was battling with leaving her career, country and being exposed to a racist monarchy, Kate was like “I heard she was Vegan.”

Kate is a career crown chaser, Meg is not.

I think that bubble of privilege is so deep that they could not grasp why Meghan was unhappy, why she was so steadfast to do more than sit around for photographs and that is where the biggest problem is (that and the ingrained racism).

    • notasugarhere says:

No, she didn’t. Remember the story from very early on about Kate refusing to give Meghan a lift shopping? No matter how Kate’s stans try to excuse it, there is no excuse. Such a simple thing, so inexcusable. So meangirl, how dare you steal my secret fantasy husband attitude from bullying Kate.

      • NoWords says:

Okay, I can kind of understand the shopping thing. It would have caused a furor if Kate and Harry’s girlfriend were shopping together.

HOWEVER, Kate should have communicated these things with Meghan so as to not make Meghan feel snubbed.

      • notasugarhere says:

Why such excuses for Kate? She was pictured with other of Harry’s girlfriends in the past. If Harry and Meghan were okay with them being seen together, Kate should have gotten off her meangirl horse about it. If Kate hadn’t been such a bitch, we never would have heard this story.

      • NoWords says:

Well, yes, that why I said Kate should have actually communicated with Meghan rather than zipping off without a word. She should have communicated all the ins and outs of royal life as a married-in.

      • notasugarhere says:

So in other words, no excuse for Kate’s mean girl actions towards Meghan from the beginning.

      • Nic919 says:

Kate was difficult with Chelsy and Cressida as well. Kate is just a bitch to any woman she sees as a threat. There are decades of history of this.

      • Feedmechips says:

Sorry if this is redundant, but does Finding Freedom confirm that Kate wouldn’t give Meghan a ride to the shopping center, or is this just a rehashing of Lainey’s blind item about it?

      • Züri says:

@notasugarhere- “That’s not abuse, that’s seeing the Wisteria Sisters for what they are,” is so accurate.

I feel like so many people “forget” to properly contextualize KM and her family members. There isn’t a better moniker for their protracted and blatant machinations than Wisteria Sisters. I think the moniker still holds given the ways in which they continue to ape what they consider “aristocratic”– see tacky pinky signet rings, marrying an “aristocrat” whose father bought the title, for example. To the manor born they will never be, even if they’ve continued to exalt their home as “Bucklebury Manor” and suddenly gain posh accents (which a child could mimic better than KM).

    • CidyKitty(CidySmiley) says:

I’m not a Kate Stan (I’m staunchly in the team of Abolishing the Monarchy) and I was definitely not making excuses. I was pointing out how Kate has privileges that Meghan doesn’t and couldn’t come close to understanding the difficulty that Meghan faced.

    • Mel M says:

I agree with that last paragraph. They all expected Harry to marry someone who had little substance and would just be happy to be there and just stand there and look pretty and I think they thought the odds were more and more in their favor with every break up he had because the woman didn’t want that royal life. Most importantly not show up or give any type of competition to Kate. They were wrong. He not only wanted someone with substance who would be an equal partner but someone outside of the aristocracy who didn’t subscribe to this belief that royals are better than everyone else.

      • Nic919 says:

Harry doesn’t have a history of dating long term women who are as lazy as Kate. Chelsy trained to be a solicitor and Cressida was trying to be an actress. Both also came from well to do families and yet neither sat around and did nothing like Kate did. Harry was never going to go for an empty shell like his sister in law.

    • MA says:

No. She simply did not care.

    • A says:

I know others have disagreed with you, but I get exactly what you’re talking about. Kate thought she was being nice, because to her, this sort of thing IS what you do when you’re being nice. She doesn’t realize that this type of shit is cold, shallow and doesn’t come from a place of genuine niceness or sincerity.

Fwiw, I don’t think she actually did anything to be welcoming to Meghan, and she definitely didn’t invite her to Anmer Hall, roll out the red carpet, and cook her a vegan dinner. But the fact that Kate (or whoever is speaking for her) believes that these are the hallmarks of niceness is very telling. It’s like she doesn’t realize how f-cking stupid and tone deaf she sounds, y’know? We saw this with the Tatler article too. All the b-tching about how she doesn’t get to do the school run, has to be a top CEO but doesn’t get the holidays, etc. There’s just a fundamental disconnect between her and the rest of the world for some reason when it comes to these things, it’s really bizarre.

  4. BlueSky says:

“Damn we gave you crumbs and you were still hungry??” 🙄

    • ArtHistorian says:

Inviting you sibling’s fiance into your home and feeding her is the bare minimum of decent behaviour. However, the Cambridges are all about doing the bare minimum – and the Windsors are generally shitty people who wouldn’t know decent behaviour if it hit them in the face. No wonder they might think that the bare minimum of courtesy to a new family member is “rolling out the red carpet”.

  5. Carol says:

I use to love the royals so much. Now, I can’t stand them. Queen Liz of House Petty is right on. Can’t stand Wills and Kate. At least we have Harry and Meghan.

  6. Shane says:

So much for the palace is not worried. They’ve earned their keep this weekend with all their scrambling that’s for sure.

  7. Queen Meghan's Hand says:

First of all: Kate does not cook.
Second: I can only imagine how terrible a Cambridge served vegan meal is.
Third: Does ‘rolling out the red carpet’ including lying about how your sister-in-law was a big black meanie and made you cry?
Fourth: I don’t think anyone, not Charles, not the court vipers, not Wills and Kate understand that Harry is never going back. Like his second-child-won’t-be-baptized-in-UK never going back. Somehow despite Harry leaving the country, they are in denial that Harry recognizes his family with Meghan as his primary family. The Cambridges have done irreparable damage and no one in the BRF or close to it realizes it yet.

    • Edna says:

You know, I think even if Harry and Meg divorce (God forbid), I don’t think Harry would return to that den of vipers.

      • theothercleo says:

I agree with you both. Harry will never forgive some of the things they said and done to him. Even if Meghan and him get divorced he will not come back to his family. It’s also obvious that he’d been uncomfortable with many aspects of his family/duties before his wife entered the picture.

      • Tealie says:

I said the same thing, no matter what happens Harry is not returning to the uk, especially because of their behaviour after he’s left, which watching from afar has probably cemented how toxic that environment is. I think if anything, if they were to divorce he would move to Zimbabwe (which I think was the country he called his second home and originally wanted to move to) and retire there or somewhere in south/east Africa like he wanted to when he was younger. There is no way he is ever going to return, EVER.

    • Flamingo says:

How do we know that she doesn’t cook? Hasn’t she been on cooking shows?

      • notasugarhere says:

William had publicly stated how bad her cooking is. When she was claiming she was too sick to work with one of her pregnancies? She was taking weeks of expensive basic cooking classes. She is no gourmet. Even when they ‘lived’ in Wales, they had four full-time staff including a full-time cook.

      • Beach Dreams says:

That doesn’t mean anything. She’s admitted to to not being able to cook and Will happily joined in to mock her cooking skills. Actually, as I’m typing this I’m reminded of a visit she made to a soup kitchen (or some similar set-up) in the past 2-3 years, and she was struggling mightily to cut a slice of bread 😂

      • Queen Meghan’s Hand says:

Any woman so obsessed with status and class would not deign to do something so lowly as to work and sweat in the kitchen.
And many people here and on older posts have quoted Wills and Kate confirming she is useless in the kitchen.
        Kate does not cook.

      • fluffy_bunny says:

I thought she made homemade chutneys that Petty Betty loves?

    • Mac says:

Kate does cook. There is no evidence that her cooking is subpar. There is plenty to criticize Kate about. You don’t need to present fan fiction as fact.

      • Becks1 says:

William said once at a cooking event that Kate could not cook and that was how he stayed thin. Its not fan fiction. If he was just trying to poke fun at Kate, it failed.

      • Mignionette says:

Except that she and Billy have confirmed that she can’t cook…. I urge you to look up the definition of fan fiction.

      • notasugarhere says:

It has always been fan fiction that Kate is a gourmet chef.

      • Nic919 says:

If she can’t slice a piece of bread properly, she’s not in the kitchen very much.

      • Mac says:

Yes, Kate made a joke about her cooking and William responded with a joke of his own. Absolute proof she can’t cook. https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/health/diet-nutrition/a27560115/kate-middleton-diet/

      • A says:

She can probably find her way around a kitchen, and probably likes to cook things for her kids every once in a while, but she’s definitely no Martha Stewart, or even your local SAHM of three who doesn’t have half the privileges that Kate enjoys on the regular. The main issue with the press talking about how she’s a cook is the fact that they’re trying to use that to hype her up as this sort of wonderful, pleasant, middle class mum, with the picturesque Little England domestic life.

People aren’t debating whether or not Kate can cook, people are debating the way she uses that to project a certain image that is far from the truth. They want to paint this picture to make it seem like the Cambridges are just like “the rest of us,” even though “the rest of us,” happen to be mums who don’t live in a tax payer funded mansion, with a cook on staff, all of whom are paid on the tax payer dime. Kate can cook, but she’s not the tired working mom coming home after a long day, cooking dinner without a break every day of the week. She can cook, but she’s not that kind of cook, and she most definitely doesn’t cook for her friends or anyone else either.

      • Tealie says:

I think the fact they have a permanent in-house cook for EVERY meal says enough. I don’t doubt she makes little cute cucumber sandwiches for the kids when they go to school, or put cripsin their lunchbox, but that’s the extent of her talent.

    • Prayer Warrior says:

I know and what’s even funnier is their claim to be christians where in their own bible it says “sons shall cleave w/wife’s family” or something. Like ‘a son is a son till he takes a wife, a daughter is a daughter all her life” … it’s literally in their own bible somewhere that Harry is doing the right thing!!!!

    • Moki says:

Kate most definitely cooks. She’s an accomplished cook. She used to cook Harry’s favorite meal for him on his birthdays, and her first Christmas with the Queen at Sandringham, she gave her homemade chutney. She talks about it in the “The Queen at 90” documentary.

      • Em says:

Yeah the same way prince Louis first word was Mary berry🙄. This woman lies, she went to Pakistan and said she had been cooking curry the week before, but she also said she’s a bad cook so what are we to believe?

      • notasugarhere says:

His first word may have been ‘Mary’ or rather ‘Maria Teresa’ the nanny.

      • Tealie says:

right…. lmaooo. Anyways, chutney isn’t cooking, just the same way baking isn’t cooking jam making isn’t cooking.

    • Tessa says:

People who set up those blogs about Meghan predicted “divorce” even before the wedding ceremony.

  8. Edna says:

Lol. Still peddling the vegan and Meghan made Kate cry nonsense. They’ve all been exposed and it’s glorious to see. There’s no excuse whatsoever for a FFQ to behave as Kate did at the Commonwealth Service. And again, the BM wants to try and make it all about drama between the two wives rather than the drama between the heir and the spare.

  9. A says:

I can’t get over the justification for the whole Commonwealth service thing. You’re at a church for a service in celebration of unity and the shared future of a diverse group of states and you can’t even pretend to get along with your in-laws. We were truly blessed to see their monarchs-in waiting diplomacy skills in action for the, oh, ten total minutes they had to interact with H&M in public. If I were in the Commonwealth I’d seriously wonder why being a jerk to Meghan took precedent over celebrating the political union the Queen is supposed to be so jazzed about.

    • Sofia says:

Exactly. The CW day is not Kate’s day. It’s literally called “Commonwealth Day” not “Kate Middleton Day”. If she’s so professional and a “top CEO”, she could have sucked it up a few minutes. Give a smile, say hello, exchange a few pleasantries if feeling up to it and keep a smile on camera. You can bitch about Meghan when the cameras aren’t on you or to your friends n private (who will then go to Tatler to say how much they dislike your mother and sister)

      • Beach Dreams says:

Between this and other things like breaking 100+ year traditions because you didn’t feel like going, she’s hardly as “regal” as her fans and the press would like to claim. In fact, one might say she is wholly unsuitable…

      • theothercleo says:

Seriously. Being nice and smiling at someone you don’t like is part of every job. We’ve all pretented to care about one of our coworker’s last fishing trip just to be polite. This woman, who is supposed to be queen someday, can’t even fake it for an hour? This is literally her only job!

      • ArtHistorian says:

Kate has never had a proper job – she’s never learned basic work place social skills.

    • Nic919 says:

I know they aren’t religious, but acting so rude during a church service is sinful because she acted like that because of envy and anger. No Christian charity there. There is no justification for her rude and ignorant behaviour.

      • Harper says:

Does anyone think Kate views an event held in a church as anything other than a Royal duty? It’s just another appearance that requires planning for hair, dress, shoes, and handbag. The venue may affect her wardrobe choice, but the spirit behind a church service? It’s not there with Kate. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have cut Meghan in a holy place.

      • Nic919 says:

Kate didn’t get confirmed until just before her wedding so no I don’t think that someone who holds off Christian confirmation until 29 when a wedding to a future defender of the Anglican faith is coming up is a religious person. But it remains a sacrilegious thing to play petty games during a church service.

  10. Priscila says:

“‘It was a very challenging working environment. It was high pressure and extremely stressful… Nothing was ever good enough, they always saw the negative in everything. Nothing is ever their fault, always someone else’s. They are professional victims.’”

Wow! Professional victims- if there was any expression to discredit a victim, is this one.

Well, actually I believe nothing was good enough, because, guess what? you guys suck! Yes, that is right: the people working for the royal households suck balls, are completely outdated, outsmarted and out of touch with the whole world. It is in their best interests to keep UK entertained with their lowkey mediocre offerings because in the real world stage, they would not survive.

    • Elizabeth says:

“they always saw the negative in everything” — this really doesn’t sound like Harry or Meghan at all

    • Ennie says:

It’s notable how Those Cambridges have never really held an actual job, especially Kate. “Highly stressful”, yeah, pampered spoiled woman.
I can’t just imagine if it had been Meghan showing her but repeatedly in different events, instead of FFQ, the HORROR. They are untouchable and they know it, that is why they dare treat Harry, Meghan and even the baby like that.
Don’t have a gram of empathy or compassion.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

I think that comment is deflection – we all know WHO the real professional victims and negative nellies are. Both Cambridges are very controlling which in turn creates a toxic and stressful environment. I have experienced this in my personal and professional life.

    • Lala456 says:

nothing is ever good enough? what are the taxpayers paying them for? They are proving everyone right that they are lazy with these comments.

  11. Toot says:

Kate is supposedly so “regal” and future Queen, but she didn’t have sense enough to be diplomatic with family members in front of the whole world?

Kate has given Meghan the cold shoulder before the Commonwealth service. Remember the Polo match and Kate never came over to see her new nephew Archie or speak to Meghan? So the excuse of them leaving being the reason is bs.

  12. Mel M says:

“Totally private inner sanctum”, gah! Like these two are gods or something. They are two ordinary people who got lucky by being born to the right families and for one waitying for 10 years.

“William had hoped that everyone had moved on” BS!!!

This whole statement is pure fiction and hilarious. No one that isn’t die hard team Cambridge or has paid any attention would believe this pathetic spin.

    • Couch potato says:

Oh, William had for sure hoped that everyone would move on, and NOT tell the world how shitty he’s behaved. He’s so used to Harry keeping quiet, and the RR writing what Willy wants, he didn’t expect other reporters to present the truth.

  13. ABritGuest says:

Isn’t the spinning funny. What happened to the brothers reconnecting on those private zoom calls? Didn’t the same Fail report a few weeks ago that Kate wasn’t interested in Meghan’s friendship attempts, that William had excluded her from attending events? Didn’t that Tatler piece say that Kate kept her distance as they had nothing in common?

This is exactly why the Firm working so unprofessionally with the press is bad as this is just a click game for the press. In the meantime real people are hurt& relationships damaged. Plus going so hard on the smear campaign& the Firm’s silence in its midst/showing zero support makes it hard to refute claims of being unfriendly, unsupportive.

    The Firm needs new people.

    • notasugarhere says:

W&K denying Harry the ability to bring Meghan to the *private* Diana memorial at Althorp last minute. When she had already flown over to be with Harry during that emotional time. I cannot express how abusive and unforgivable that action by W&K was.

      • Digital Unicorn says:

There is only room for ONE Diana cosplaying member for that family – Top CEO. Even William doesn’t like Harry bringing up their mother – apparently its only him that allowed to use her memory for good PR.

      • Sofia says:

I thought that was a shitty thing to do, sorry. Yes Meghan was not a wife or fiancee at the time (shouldn’t even matter because Diana’s memorial is not an “official” royal event like TTC or something) but Harry is just as much Diana’s son as William. He has every right to decide who would be at his mother’s memorial as much as William does. William and Harry should have had a proper sit down about this instead of going “nope sorry. she’s not coming and the decision is final.”

      • Nic919 says:

That was mean and had to have hurt Harry. They were weeks from announcing their engagement at that point and everyone knew they were serious.

      • Ginger says:

Didn’t Harry invite Chelsy to Diana’s 10 year memorial concert? William didn’t seem to mind then.

Also, Did William invite Kate to that ?

      • Tessa says:

Harry invited Chelsy who sat next to him. William supposedly was sneaking around seeing Kate and put her in a group of his friends and nowhere near him.

  14. Harper says:

“Invited her into their totally private inner sanctum at Anmer Hall.” What? They let her into Anmer Hall? Wasn’t she Harry’s date/fiance/wife? There’s your snobbery right there.

    • Prayer Warrior says:

Probably made her come in the servant’s entrance…or would have if they could have…..It was said above used to be very fond of the Royal Family, as my mum adored them all. They have, all on their own, changed me from a monarchist to supporting dumping the monarchy entirely (Cdn here)….

  16. KellyRyan says:

Two different women on two different paths. I’d enjoy meeting with and talking with Meghan. I find her both interesting and engaging. As to Kate, I say laughingly, waste my time with a shallow grifter, no. 🙂

    • Tealie says:

Same, I can’t imagine the empty nothingless drivel she moans on about day after day, I wouldn’t be able to help but roll my eyes and get them lodged at the back of my skull. 🙄

  17. Talie says:

To the outside observer, things did seem fine around the time of the engagement and that first Christmas. It even looked like William and Kate were helping Meghan along that day at the Sandringham church. Maybe it was a reset for all of them.

But by the time they were on stage together at that press conference event…you could see how William and Kate were uncomfortable every time Meghan spoke. It was clear neither one would ever want to share space with her again. Her command of a room was very present in that moment.

As for Kate, I do think her view of female friendship was formed at her elite boarding school and I’m sure she had many toxic experiences that made her view friendship in competitive terms. Taking someone under her wing and showing them the ropes doesn’t appear to be something she would take part in.

    • notasugarhere says:

Kate was never bullied at school, that was proven to be lies. Carole the social climber tried to force the aristocrats to force their daughters to befriend Kate. She didn’t ask other parents to do that, just the aristo ones. They refused. That’s not abuse, that’s seeing the Wisteria Sisters for what they are.

Kate is known to be a bully (her treatment of the much younger York sisters). She has no female friends of her own; they’re all people she clung to because they could get her access to William. She was raised to be competitive with her own sister. Kate is not now, nor has she ever been, pro-other women.

      • Florence says:

I remember the debunking of this. Teachers said that everyone basically paid no attention to her, as she was just in the background all the time. She is a born non-entity.

      • BayTampaBay says:

Kate started out at an all-girls school, could not hack it and transferred to co-ed Marlborough College.

      • Tessa says:

Kate apparently thought she had to strip down and wear a see through dress at a fashion show “to get William to notice her.”

      • A says:

Well, tbf, this comment didn’t say that Kate was bullied. It just said that Kate had a number of “toxic experiences” during her school days, which actually does bear up under scrutiny. This doesn’t mean she was a victim.

But I think the assessment that public schools in Britain, of the sort that posh people send their children to, especially all-girls posh schools, can be incredibly toxic environments on the whole. I think it’s safe to say that Kate was largely raised in a place that teemed with low key snobbery, which she has been taught (thanks to Carole) to feel deeply.

The biggest influence on Kate’s views of other women, particularly her relationships with other women, has got to be Carole. And the sorts of views that Carole saddled her with have tinged her friendships for the rest of her life. This probably accounts for why she had a difficult time at school and college. She doesn’t need to bullied exactly in order to feel perpetually alone, friendless and like a nonentity.

Again, this is not to say that Kate is a victim, but it’s just an insight into her formative years and what sorts of experiences have made her into the shallow, insecure person that she is. There are plenty of people who have great experiences in these sorts of settings as well, obviously. But the people who do make it through unscathed also happen to be people who are raised with a firm, confident sense of self, which we all know Kate lacks.

      • February-Pisces says:

I think kate has a ‘kill, or be killed’ attitude. Her experiences from school have left her with a deep seated mistrust of other women. Maybe she’s tried the ‘female friend’ thing before and it hasn’t worked out well. Also doesn’t help that her husband has probably tried to screw anyone she may have been friends. I wouldn’t be surprised if her own sister threw herself at William in the dating years. She was desperate and he doesn’t turn down any woman. I think in that infamous Tatler article that said Pippa is lost being in Kate’s shadow, I think that came from Kate. Shade from her own sis.

    • Nic919 says:

Kate was jealous of her younger sister being more popular than her in school and she has been competitive with every single female in her path that she views as competition. Of course she was envious of Meghan, because they were the same age, Meghan is far more accomplished and does Kate’s job better than Kate ever could. And she’s the same age but looks way younger. William’s envy of his brother gave Kate permission to act this poorly as well.

    • BayTampaBay says:

“Taking someone under her wing and showing them the ropes doesn’t appear to be something she would take part in.”

I do not think Kate would even know how to do this. This is a woman who cannot string together more than three words to make a sentence.

    • Tealie says:

A says – i’m not going to lie to you that whole private school everyone gets bullied thing is a complete lie, I went to extremely posh single sex private school and there with virtually no bullying. Yes , people showed off sometimes but that’s about it. Most girls kept to themselves and do their own thing. Although I accept that was my experience. The only people who DID get eyes rolled at them were the ones who are constantly felt like they needed to ‘prove’ something like Kate; incessantly showing off their money, daddy’s credit card and how they could only fly first and NOT business class. I highly doubt that Kate was bullied, I just think she didn’t have any friends.

I think Kate’s view of other women as enemies is completely due to her own insecurity about her middle/working-class background through the projections Carole has built up in her head her entire life about NEEDING to be rich, NEEDING to have a rich husband and NEEDING to have a big title to be worth something, which is why she always feel so threatened by other people like Meghan who don’t abide by ‘stations’ or or derive their confidence from their titles. She just can’t get her head around why some people won’t want to bow to her or care to grovel to ‘earn her respect’. hence the reason she is always insistant on being called Catherine (which was never really her name and not ‘Kate’, her past self which she perceives as a ‘lower class’ and ’less than’.

And that is exactly why the ‘aristocrats’ around them don’t engage and roll their eyes. I have no doubt Carole and the ‘wisteria sisters’ were always shouting and bragging about what holiday they went on, how much their hedges were, how much they spent at the restaurant last night, how much their last hair appointment cost. To the same people that can afford the damn island itself. And yes like us I’m sure they saw right through that gauche posh accent she’s taken on.

  18. KW says:

soooo, in over two years, they were only invited over twice, and one of those times was for the wedding party. And that is rolling the red carpet? It’s hilarious to me that even their rebuttals make them sound like assholes. Will and Kate really are that bad and that stupid.

  19. Becks1 says:

The line about the private inner sanctum at Anmer Hall is weird. Like, Meghan is marrying William’s only brother. I would assume she would be invited to Anmer, and on a semi-regular basis. It shouldn’t be viewed as a privilege. The fact that it is being presented as such, to me, just emphasizes how much of an outsider Meghan was, in terms of her treatment.

    • notasugarhere says:

The Amner at Christmas thing always seemed forced to me. There was an article five years ago, about how full-up Sandringham House is when all the relatives stay over Christmas. Maybe someone (Charles?) *strongly encouraged* W&K to have Harry and Meghan to stay that Christmas. Plenty of space in that 10 bedroom country home.

Several birds with one stone. Freed up space in the main house. Meant an unmarried couple wasn’t sleeping together under the Queen’s Pretend Christian roof. Kept the Middletons from hanging out at Sandringham that year acting like they are the born royals.

      • Ennie says:

The text doesn’t strike me as HarrY and Meghan actually staying at Amner. It seems more like visiting.

      • notasugarhere says:

I’m referencing the known time they stayed at Anmer over Christmas holidays. Anmer is nearly a three hour from Windsor. They wouldn’t just drop by another time; it would be an overnight at the minimum.

    • Tealie says:

I agree, their over pontification small, (i wouldn’t even say ‘gestures’ because that insinuates you have to go out of your way and be forced to do something out of the norm) of events such as inviting someone to dinner and answering the doorbell, or giving them flowers after they’ve GIVEN BIRTH. These tiny, what should be unremarkable/rememberable events to be plucked out as examples of ‘not being a bully’ and ‘acceptance’ just shows how little they did and how little they think Meghan is worth. that she should bend the knee and submitt over some mashed potatoes.

  20. Louise says:

I don’t think the book actually contains THAT many revelations that people didn’t already know. Its not anything like Diana’s book. If anything, Harry comes off it looking worse by being so concerned about rank and the press in the UK is kind of reporting that. As we know, there are two sides to every story. Unless there’s a major bombshell that is yet to come out, its nothing noone didn’t know? I completely expect this to be deleted as it doesn’t fit the narrative of the other comments.

    • Sofia says:

I mean people said before this book came out, nothing new would be said but sure go and act like you’re saying something super revolutionary.

    • Lanie says:

Then I guess there’s no need for KP or BP to issue any comments on it.

      Oh, wait…

    • Becks1 says:

Many of us are saying that the book doesn’t contain anything new – more details yes, but nothing really shocking that we didn’t really know. But, that’s US. That’s people who watched this all play out in real time (and many of our theories are being confirmed here.) Many, many people just followed the headlines and didn’t dig beyond those for a variety of reasons, so for those people, seeing everything laid out like this, in one place, is going to be eye-opening.

I don’t get why people keep saying Harry is obsessed with rank (I’m seeing that a lot on twitter, along with “he doesn’t understand how the royal family works.”) Harry is a member of the royal family. I’m sure he completely understands how it works, better than any of us. And he didn’t like it, so he left.

      • notasugarhere says:

The desperate Meghan haters are continuing with a Harry is Jealous of William’s position theme. When all along Harry has 1) known he won’t be king and 2) doesn’t want to be king. William doesn’t want to be king either.

An interesting excerpt – Charles made it clear the slimdown monarchy plan always included Harry and Meghan. The haters are angry that has come out. They’ve been harping for years that Harry and Meghan were supposed to be thrown out, never supposed to be working royals. That Harry and Meghan pulled all of this for public sympathy, trying to force the royals to keep them on.

      • Ginger says:

@Nota Meghan haters only care about titles and rank because that’s all they have for Will and Kate. For Meghan and Harry, I can list their accomplishments for days. For the other two, they MIGHT be King and Queen Consort one day. MIGHT. That’s it. No accomplishments.

William himself said no one wants to be King. And Harry wants them to have more kids because it moves him further down.

      • Tealie says:

@notasugarhere They would do though because they’ve got nothing else to say about their faves. That’s why they’re only reply to what Meghan has done and her achievements is that “Kate will be future Queen consort one day” – what that means i have always tried to figure out.

    • GuestWho says:

I think Harry’s concern for rank, as you put it, was more a concern that he was being punished for putting his family first. Won’t stay and toe the line? We’ll take away the military appointments that mean the most to you. Still aren’t falling in line? We’ll try to publicly humiliate you in a public venue in front of the entire commonwealth by changing up the order of precedence to put you and your bi-racial wife in your places. That didn’t work out the way W&K wanted it to? We’ll cut you publicly to show the entire world how much disdain we have for you.

This isn’t about rank to Harry, I suspect, but about his family treating him and his wife like crap.

    • Lizzie says:

Actually there were major revelations. Cambridge’s leaked that Meghan made Kate cry and it was a lie. This looks really bad.

  21. Aa says:

What’s funny is that the main source of negative leaks to the press on the early days was pretty obviously Kate’s own mother. Carole got involved early. The games with Pippa’s wedding etd. That’s what this book couldn’t speak to is how would Kate support Meghan when her own mother saw Meghan as a threat and tried to undermine her.

    • notasugarhere says:

This. The Middletons used the will-she-won’t-see attend carrot to help monetize Pippa’s wedding and get discounted rents/freebies. All those stories about glass wedding venues imported from Belgium, always with a word or two about Harry and Meghan tucked in for attention.

They never wanted Meghan at the wedding or the reception, and certainly wanted to pics of here there. They wanted 1) the attention and 2) to spin the false narrative that Harry loves the Middletons and would never miss Precious Pippa’s wedding.

    • Tealie says:

I agree I think Carole started the whole Meghan made Kate make a cry thing to make her look good and is still lying sbout it as to mot foil her credibility as a source. I don’t even think she initially told Kate that she made up the rumour i just think KP just continued it when they saw how much they were benefiting from it and decided to push the narrative.

  22. KA says:

    “Rolled out the red carpet…”

Had to get a dig in at her profession, didn’t they?

  23. DS9 says:

Don’t these people know most of us have been to high school and know first hand that inviting lessers to events and allowing their presence at the lunch table doesn’t negate bullying and in fact, merely makes the snubs more hurtful and pronounced?

“We let you in, it’s not our fault you still don’t fit…”

    • BayTampaBay says:

“We let you in, it’s not our fault you still don’t fit…”

This is exactly how “Rose Who?” and the Turnip Toffs feel about Kate.

  24. Nic919 says:

The royal box at Wimbledon is open to all members of the British royal family. It is not up to Kate to dole out invitations and Meghan has as much right to use the box as anyone else. If anyone would have that right it would be the Queen, as it is technically her box.

It’s crazy for them to pretend Kate provided any honours in that way. She wasn’t even patron until last year, at which point Meghan was a royal herself.

    • TheOriginalMia says:

Exactly, Nic! Meghan didn’t need an invite from Kate to occupy the Royal box. She could have gone on her own. Also, Meghan has sat in Serena’s box the times she has gone, so all this posturing like Wimbledon was some precious gift from Kate is laughable.

  25. Andrew’s Nemesis says:

THE WHINING. Honestly, they sound like a bunch of sad nellies. And these are the people in whom the nation is supposed to repose trust? Those whose stiff lips are reportedly legendary are running to the Heil to whine about ‘butbutbut I invited her to my inner sanctum and turned the oven on!!!’ Grow up, Keenbridges.

  26. taylor says:

It’s so funny how often they recount the ONE time they invited Meghan into their ~inner sanctuary, which was before the wedding! This is your brother and his soon-to-be wife. It’s not above and beyond to invite them to your home. They did the bare minimum and they know it.

  27. ABritGuest says:

As for being professional victims- the staff were gleefully leaking stories to the press about the mean nicknames they had for her& that royals thought she was a degree wife. Not sure many would be happy in that work climate.

The royal household is beyond unprofessional. It’s a wonder they get any work done with all the gossiping they do. They really do need Brits’ commitment to serfdom & the right wing press to help keep the monarchy in place.

  28. Maria says:

Kate and William did invite Harry and Meghan to Anmer Hall for that first Xmas. Not a crime is it? And maybe she thought that Meghan was vegan, and she acted accordingly. She made a mistake. Not the end of the world. I haven’t read the book but it seems to me there is a lot of nitpicking in it, and the authors seem to have a lot of information despite the fact that the two were never interviewed.

    • Becks1 says:

? No one is saying its a crime. What we are saying is that cooking a vegan meal for Meghan and inviting her to your house once, is not really “rolling out the red carpet” for someone who is marrying your brother/brother in law, and it doesn’t mean Kate wasn’t otherwise mean to Meghan.

    • notasugarhere says:

You admit you haven’t read the book. All while implying Harry and Meghan must be behind it – because of the info contained in the book you haven’t read.

    • Lizzie says:

The authors state they have 2 sources for all events and they are not H&M. I don’t see why this is hard to understand.
The vegan dinner appears to have been made up yesterday. Just as the whole Meghan made Kate cry debacle was made up a few years ago. That is how the Cambridge’s roll.

    • Ennie says:

These people are micromanaged, many of their communications are by writing, email, whatever. They live their lives with and around employees who manage their time, activities, etc and who are worse at being stuck up and snobby than the royals. They seem to have their own hierarchy, too.
I bet what they say to each other ( as a firm) is told to their secretaries to keep/ record in a file with a date, etc, for whatever purpose.
It is easy to see that a lot of that information, goes through many hands.

    • GuestWho says:

Since you haven’t read the book (but are able to judge it anyway), you should be made aware that the vegan-dinner story was not in the book, but was something that was made up over the weekend by either W&K or the Daily Fail.

    • Mary says:

@Maria, yes the Cambridges invited Meghan to Anmer for Christmas in 2017 but it was widely reported at the time that it was only because Harry complained to Charles about William and Kate not “rolling out the red carpet” for Meghan. They invited her because Charles told them to.

Also, Meghan would have gone to Wimbledon regardless to see Serena play. Thus, Kate’s two invites to Meghan seem pretty meaningless. The best you can say about Kate is that she realized that it would look weird if Meghan showed up at Wimbledon and did not sit with Kate in the Royal box.

So, of the four measly examples of the Cambridges being welcoming to Meghan, the only one that might be unsolicited, not forced and genuine is the one pre-wedding party for the kids. Big whoop, Kate hides behind and can only relate with kids…. This is not an example of her welcoming Meghan with open arms and offering her guidance and support as she enters the firm.

Seriously, they came up with FOUR examples?

      • Nic919 says:

Meghan was a royal in 2018 and 2019 and had her own right to sit in the royal box regardless of Kate. The Middletons require Kate’s permission to sit there. Meghan never did.

      • Mary says:

It is my understanding that not all royals can just pick a date and get a seat in the Royal box. If they could, Prince and Princess Michael would be there every day! I don’t think Meghan (or any Royal but Kate, the Duke of Kent, C&C or the Queen & Phil) could have just strolled up and demanded a seat(s) for a final game, not having been previously offered a seat by Wimbledon or invited by Kate.

Case in point, the time Meghan went with her two friends she was NOT in the Royal box.

Finally, my comment about the Royal Box included the scenario of Meghan being in that box but not sitting with Kate. I indicated that Kate realized that people would think it odd if Meghan was not sitting with her. By that, I meant next to her.

      • notasugarhere says:

        Rules about the royal box.

‘The Royal Box has been used for the entertainment of friends and guests of Wimbledon since 1922. The Royal Box has 74 seats. They are dark green Lloyd Loom wicker chairs.

British and overseas Royal Families are invited as well as heads of government, people from the world of tennis, commercial partners, British armed forces, prominent media organisations, supporters of British tennis and other walks of life.

Invitations come from the Chairman of the All England Club, taking into account suggestions from members of The Championships’ Organising Committee, The Lawn Tennis Association and other relevant sources. Guests are invited to the Clubhouse for lunch, tea and drinks at the end of the day. Protocol – dress is smart, suits/jacket and tie, etc. Ladies are asked not to wear hats, as they tend to obscure the vision of those seated behind them. ‘

      • Nic919 says:

Meghan went with her friends to watch Serena Williams because Kate never attended a women’s match until Serena Williams made the final and she knew Meghan would be there watching as her friend. And the semi final Meghan watched wasn’t in centre court where the royal box is located. Serena Williams had of course won Wimbledon many times prior to that year but Kate was not there to watch it those times.

In short Kate did not gift Meghan with anything at Wimbledon as it is not for her to decide, especially not an equivalent in rank sister in law.

      • Mary says:

@nota, I am aware of the rules and they confirm that Meghan could not just automatically expect an invite to the Royal box from Wimbledon (read all eng club). I expected Meghan to go to the final but not necessarily in the royal box, unless Wimbledon invited her.

@nic919’s comment seem to imply that Meghan, as a royal, could swan into the box for any match she wanted (“Meghan was a royal in 2018 and 2019 and had her own right to sit in the royal box regardless of Kate”).
        I disagree.

I also disagree with @nic919’s statement: “Kate did not gift Meghan with anything at Wimbledon as it is not for her to decide, especially not an equivalent in rank sister in law.”.

First, I don’t think Kate views Meghan as “an equivalent in rank sister in law,” haha!! Second, I was commenting on the article where Kate’s friends say she invited Meghan.

Finally, I have no doubt that Kate is one of those “relevant sources” that recommends invitations; otherwise, I don’t think we would see the Middletons that often in the Royal box. So, while technically it is not for Kate to decide, I absolutely think she pulls rank as Royal patron to get seats for her “invitees.” Otherwise, why would Kate’s friends even refer to her inviting Meghan to the matches?

  29. Bettyrose says:

Meghan shares memories involving roasted chicken. She wears leather products in public. I’d love her to have a vegan coming out…but there’s absolutely no indication she’s was a practicing vegan while in Britain.

  30. NotSoSocialButterfly says:

More evidence that W/K were and remain fully butthurt that Merry are more popular than they ever will be.

  31. S808 says:

I cannot get over Kate acting like a complete bitch at the commonwealth ceremony. This is someone who is expected to be diplomatic with other heads of state/countries or support her husband’s diplomatic efforts and she acted like child for the world to see. Does she realize she ignored a blood royal prince? There’s not a reason good enough to act like that in public. She’s gotten very comfortable in her position but when William decides he wants to get rid of her, he’s got plenty of ammunition to get the job done.

    • notasugarhere says:

We’ve seen her inability to control her over the top expressions for years. Guffaws outside children’s hospices, grinning like a maniac at solemn events.

    • TheOriginalMia says:

Kate’s actions were incredibly shortsighted. She made it abundantly clear to everyone how much she couldn’t stand her black SIL for no other reason than Meghan existing. The Commonwealth will have to vote William in as head. There’s no indication atm they will once Charles dies. Betty had to cajole them into voting for Charles once she passes. She won’t be around to lobby for William. Their actions against H&M show their lack of empathy and racial bias. Those black and brown countries of the Commonwealth won’t be so quick to remain loyal subjects under William’s reign.

      • Lizzie says:

That is very interesting. I thought the position went with the crown. If they don’t want William would they pick someone else or disband?

      • CrazyHeCallsMe says:

That’s what I don’t understand. The Commonwealth is comprised of mostly brown and black nations. Showing these colonialist, racist attitudes for the whole world to see against your bi-racial SIL is stupid. I guess the attitude is that King William will be voted head of the Commonwealth regardless of any racial bias. It speaks to the larger issue of white Britain’s inability to accept the “sun set long ago on the Empire.”

      • notasugarhere says:

The 54 countries of The Commonwealth get to choose their own honorary head. Out of deference to HM, they grudgingly agreed to name Charles – but they can vote him out anytime they want. As soon as HM is gone, I suspect they’ll remove Charles and vote in someone new.

    • Dilettante says:

As Maya Angelou said, when someone shows you who they are, believe them.

    • Lizzie Bathory says:

The only reason they’re even bothering to come up with excuses for Kate’s nasty behavior on Commonwealth Day (“she was frustrated about H&M’s exit from royal life”) is because we all saw it on tape. If the world hadn’t witnessed it, they would be doing more gaslighting. They’d deny anything happened & try to spin the story as “mean Meghan misinterpreted Kate’s behavior & tricked poor, overly sensitive Harry into thinking Kate wasn’t nice to her.”

    • MA says:

I really wonder if her turning her nose up at a blood prince caught the attention of the aristos and maybe was part of the motivation behind the Tatler article to put her in her place. Meghan they couldn’t care less about but Harry is one of THEM or their better.
Don’t get me wrong, the monarchy is a ridiculous fraudulent institution but if you think about what Kate did in the context of that strange world her actions are quite shocking — a “nobody” out snobbing a born royal. Can’t imagine the Queen was happy about that.

  32. Sarah says:

They know we have eyes right?

  33. Lisa says:

    Amazing gaslighting.

  34. Chelsea says:

Another sign this article is a lie; Meghan didnt spend Christmas in the UK in 2016. She was papped with her mom in Toronto and she posted a pic to Instagram saying that she spent Christmas with her parents. Also: the Cambridges spent Christmas with the Middletons that year and missed the Christmas walk. This entire thing is BS. Why lie about things that can be so easily proven false?

  35. Marivic says:

“William doesn’t like this raked all over again because he thought everybody has moved on.” He surely doesn’t like it because it reminds him of the brother he bullied out of his country. His guilt conscience tells him the kind of manipulative and vindictive older brother he was and was wrong to drive his brother and his wife away. Deep down William knows he caused all these. And his conscience wouldn’t let him sleep.

    • Lemons says:

I noticed that too…PWT thought everyone had moved on from his toxic actions and things had cooled off since his plan to banish H&M worked. This family is delusional.

    • Lizzie says:

The book is a best seller so it is a stupid statement.

    • GuestWho says:

It might be easier for H&M to move on if willileaks would stop providing information to damned wootton and the daily mail.

    • Tealie says:

No he doesn’t like it because he wishes Harry would just submit and take his lies slander and throwing him under the bus for coverups without ‘whining’ about it. He wants everyone to forget about it so he can once again resume cheating with Rose. Not because he cares or feels bad about what he is that what he’s done.

In my view, some of it is true and some of the information presented both now and previously, is based on half truths/half lies.

I do not think this will help Meghan and Harry in the long term though. I think this will hurt them more than help them

    • Ennie says:

It at least presents a more sympathetic view. I am not a hardcore fan, but I browse twitter and used to scroll instagram, and what is actively shared And said there is horrible and hurtful, and many if it keeps to be part of a written and printed campaign. Where is the balance?
This is one voice, ONE, on their side.
Some people don’t want that voice to even exist. There are at least two or three bios that I’ve detected, against this one. Were those not hurtful?

      • GuestWho says:

The reams of anti-Meghan material that have been published, of course, are not hurtful, because she isn’t viewed as a human being. The fact that people are bitching about this fairly benign account is really telling. If it had a negative Sussex slant (like the other 3 books published in the past month), they’d be all for it. Wasn’t it Katie Nichols (another viper) who said that it could have been much worse (which makes me maddeningly curious).

      • Mariangela says:

You see I am not sure if there is complete sympathy for them based on the excerpts released. I feel like some of the stories that have come out do not make Meghan and Harry look good/mature/reasonable, even in the eyes of some of their fans.
There are some wackadoole accounts out there which are not just hurtful but downright crazy/abusive but I do observe some people have valid criticism (i.e. not racist/derogatory/just for the sake of pulling her down).

      • Sid says:

Mariaangela, I am seeing a quite a bit of twitter commentary calling out the BRF and saying how unreasonable they all look. William is being raked over the coals for his “too fast” comment, especially in light of the the Rose affair rumors.

And at the end of the day, how will this hurt them in long run? They have managed to build relationships with well-connected people outside of the BRF. The people that are actually working with them can see what they are like. The reputation they build and the results they get from the work they do is what will keep getting them more work. If they are smart now, they can set themselves up quite well. Who gives a flying fig what the British press and some racist, obsessed clowns think?

    • Vanessa says:

you don’t think this book would help Meghan and Harry yet this weekend alone debunked a lot of the negative stories about Meghan . For years Kate and her stans has stated over and over that meghan made kate cry that story has been passed around for three years the crying story came up again. When Kate and her mother wanted Tatler to do a story about how great she was they brought up the story again this time with more details when people on social media took Meghan side the story switch to kate wanted the kids hemlines longer for protocol reasons when it was pointed out that their no such rule . Now we find out that the cry gate never happen at all it was a lie to further smeared Meghan .

    • CrazyHeCallsMe says:

There have been several books published within the last few months (and more to come) that all have bashed and rehashed the same racist, disproven lies about M&H. But no comment against those books being published….only against the ONE BOOK that tries to portray a more balanced view of what transpired to cause M&H to leave the Royal Family.

    • Ennie says:

You may be referring to aspects of protocol that Were put in action on the Sussexes.
That is their reality, which it’s q foreign to us, and for them is their way of life as they are a family and a firm.
The actions of the courtiers(acting by themselves o under higher orders)over the protocol have effect over their status and Harry is secure and may not care as Andrew does, for example, but treating Meghan a certain way is most probably a snub, a disrespect and he was being certain that they were treated with the minimum respect according to their status. Remember that they wanted was only to get a balanced coverage and at the end, to part ways with the royal rota, not the rotten deal they got.
It was not their fault that the press was focused on them from the start.

    • Beach Dreams says:

LOL okay. I’ve noticed that the press and certain factions of the royal fandom have been insistently parroting this talking point all weekend. The only people who seriously think this book is damaging to the Sussexes are those who already dislike them. They will search for any reason to gloss over the royal family’s disgusting actions.

      • TheOriginalMia says:

I’m with Beach Dreams. The only people who think this book reflects negatively on the Sussexes already were predisposed to dislike the Sussexes. They have no sympathy for their situation. They blame them for everything that happened to them. They see no problem in Harry abandoning his family to return to his position as 3rd wheel to the Cambridges.

      • L4frimaire says:

Agree. The haters aren’t changing their minds ever. The same, “she knew what she was getting into, they didn’t want to take a backseat to KP, if they’d been more discrete and quiet” yada yada that was being thrown out after the South Africa interview and initial announcement are still being parroted. I think some were disappointed that it didn’t outright drag any royals or is fairly level in criticism, as well as bring up some of the courtiers beef with the Sussexes. What this does, however, is lay out a timetable and fairly methodical response, debunk the falsehoods, and show Meghan’s view point and acknowledge her emotions. The part about the negative story of her mother and the photographer climbing her fence really upset me. The palace haven’t said anything is a lie, are trotting out excuses and walked back some of the press articles already such as the Sussexes can never come back ( not that they want to).

      • Mariangela says:

Just to clarify I am not glossing over anyone’s actions – I am judging everyone’s actions. I just don’t think this book was a good idea. For one I would not want to rehash and relive something. And secondly I think it still leaves a lot to interpretation.

I went through something a few years ago. It was all over the media and everything. It was a horrible time in my life. People keep wanting to rehash it and discuss it. And looking back, I wish I had just gone silent and not tried to “tell my story”

  37. Vanessa says:

For years William and Kate along with their employees actively engaged in a smeared campaign against Meghan. The only reason the Cambridge’s and their fans are all over social media trying their hardest to spin this new story if this stories is no big deal this proves what people were saying for years William and Kate made no effort to get to know Meghan they worked with press to destroy Meghan and Harry marriage. The Cambridge’s are the ones who are arrogant and think that they should get continuity praises for doing nothing but being mediocre and basic . This whole narrative that Harry doesn’t know his place is ridiculously he is a born in the royal family I’m sure knows a lot more about the ranks then the Meg haters and he never wanted to be king and Meghan has never wanted to be queen the only person who desperately wants the crown is Kate Middleton’s.

  38. TheOriginalMia says:

The very least William & Kate could do was invite Meghan over for dinner or a weekend. That’s the very least thing they could do. And that’s all they did. They lived next door at KP and it took them being together for Christmas ‘17 for them to extend a common courtesy on Harry’s significant other of more than a year. GMAFB.

I was brought up on meat but have been trying to wean myself off atleast once a week…I find it interesting though how “vegan” seems to be an insult and dog-whistle to a lot of the alt right. I remember when Meghan bashing was at it’s worst this was brought up alot in the media.

Anyway, it would be nice if William had a word with the press to stop printing articles about their relationship to H&M. I know he has nthing to gain from doing so cause it leaves his own family as an open target, but still, to throw an entire family under the bus that wants nothing to do with the monarchy is the reason I can never respect him. If I were him I would do that, come any attacks or embarassment, and if my family felt the heat was too much, I would step down, that would be the honest thing to do, what theyre doing right now is criminal.

  40. Lemons says:

If this story were true, we would have heard it by now. But the tides are changing so now we’re getting a barrage of stories about how gracious and supportive the Cambridges were behind the scenes…just like their secret meetings, secret projects, secret trainings….*sigh*

A real, supportive, loving family doesn’t need to be secretive about it. We would just know. There wouldn’t be any rumors or doubts or press releases.

    • L4frimaire says:

There seems to be a lot of “ supportive Cambridge” stories coming out, and I question their veracity. Also, it seems like the bare minimum to me. Vegan meal. I don’t think that said to make a good impression, especially to right wing Britain, but more of a “ Hollywood “ thing. Like the one about sending flowers where Meghan says it’s not good enough. That seems very odd to me, and like something they would milk like the crying story if it really happened that way. I feel like a lot of these little stories are really lame and don’t do anything. A big who cares.

  41. February-Pisces says:

Has Kate ever carried out an act of kindness for anyone without a photographer there to capture the moment? Even when she ‘goes to the supermarket’ her assistant poses as a member of the public to capture her shopping on their camera phone, just to send it to the DM so kate can be praised to the heavens for ‘doing her own shopping’.

  42. CrystalBall says:

There was a photo of Kate at the train station in London on her way to Anmer Hall before the rest of the family. In my opinion, she looked bitter, resentful and full of self pity (yes, I’m extremely good at reading micro expressions!). So I put forward the notion that the trouble had already begun. Meghan was never going to have a good time there because the hostess resented her long before she arrived. If Kate was in the kitchen, it was only to get out the knives in advance.

  43. Lala456 says:

Let me start off by saying that I loathe W & K and think they are the things everyone is accusing them of here. But I also want to point out the cultural differences too. As an American POC married to a Brit, I can say from experience that lots of things we would consider rude are acceptable over there. My husband’s friends and family never invited us over except for his parents. And when people come over or even sit next to you at a gathering, its not uncommon for someone not to introduce themselves to you. It’s very difficult being an outsider of any kind. Unlike the US, people in England tend to stay in their towns and stay friends/marry with their circle with very few new people let in. Whether their behavior would change if I were white, british etc i’m not sure but W & K probably did think they were being welcoming. That being said, I found living over there toxic and was absolutely miserable. So just because it’s “normal” doesn’t mean it’s still not damaging.

    • Mary says:

Okay, lala, I am so sorry but they were being terribly rude to you and it was not a cultural difference. When young, I lived in Europe (France) and encountered many Brits there and spent time in England. Not one, ever once, sat next to me and did not introduce themself. Also, even though we were all poor starving students my British friends and I invited each other over to our homes. I also found, for the most part, that what we consider rude, they consider rude. But then, I am white.

      • Lala456 says:

could very well be they were just being rude to me! but have spoken to a lot of expats who had the same experience.

  44. Jay says:

It would be one thing if Kate made sure the menu reflected Meghan’s favourite food, or a recipe from her blog – that would show acceptance and interest.

But in this example, combined with the way it is framed, “vegan” is kind of being used as a stand in for ” Hollywood” and “demanding”, and frames her always as the other. Also, offering someone food when they accept your dinner invitation really is the bare minimum – are there really no other examples of kindness and generosity to point to? That in itself says a lot.
Kate and William may as well claim credit for offering her food off of the good plates and not wearing racist jewelry in her presence.

  45. Hannah A says:

Considering their Dad has chosen environmental activism as one of his “purposes” why would they use the term vegan as thinly veiled for over the top difficult?

These royals have got to go. They are lazy and direct benefactors of a shameful colonialist past. Their riches are the result of millions of destroyed lives, black people enslaved for their benefit. Then they admonish one of the best ways we can fight for our planet. I don’t support them or what they stand for, especially the clear overarching collusion to mistreat their first bipoc member.

Maybe I would be more into them if they began to pay some reparations or even showed some remorse. They can’t even behave respectfully to a loved one. Yuck.

  46. yinyang says:

In the commentwealth function I find Harry’s demeanor very telling. He looks very angry, almost like whatever the issue was between all of them, Meghan told him the full story, and it is very clear to him that she is VERY innocent no matter which way he looks at it. It’s almost like he’s thinking “after what the two of you have put her through, YOU have the audacity to behave like that towards my wife when she did NOTHING wrong to you and is still being nice to you!” I used to think William was more like Charles, but I don’t think that anymore. I think William is more the bad qualities of both his parents, the greedy manipulative cheating petty and lying and Kate brings it out in him. And Harry is the positive qualites of both parents, the too trusting, has a way with making people feel at ease, charming, puts a smile on your face, easy going, a good person and moral. I think Harry has always played second to his brother, so it’ll be interesting to see him carve out his own path. And to be honest, lately he’s looking like he’s packing on the pounds a little, he looks happier and healthier and thinking more clearly too. Good for him. He’s going to do very well for himself in America.

  47. JaneDoesWerk says:

I suspect that the BRF is similar to my in laws. They noted to my husband how they had never gone sp far out of their way To embrace someone as they had me……. but I felt entirely the opposite. I think the BRF’s barometer is way off on what “warm and welcoming” likely means especially to a Californian who by all accounts is warm and inclusive of others.

  48. MsIam says:

I guess people have forgotten the article that quoted Penny Junor, the ultimate royal suck-up, on how strange and cold the royal family is. How they never saw one another outside of official events and how they never congratulated one another for anything done successfully. Wasn’t the supposed reason that William was attracted to Kate was her “ warm and loving” family? Which would lead you to think that they and Kate would be more than happy to welcome Harry’s wife. Wonder why they didn’t? Nothing in it for them I guess. Anyway, I’m waiting to read the whole unadulterated book without the Rotten Rota spin on it.

  49. Likeyoucare says:

I think this book will not be smearing the cambridge but will put all the blames to the courtiers and the RR. Harry will not smear his family, he has never directly mention what his family did to him and meghan. Unfortunately, the cambridge is living in fear and paronoia, they wont stop telling lies because they were afraid of the truth.

    • Beach Dreams says:

Yeah, this book is going to be a “both sides” type of deal and I personally never expected it to be any other way. It will have a far more balanced approach in reviewing the past two to three years and that is what makes the Cambridges nervous. They seem to have forgotten what it’s like to receive anything less than fawning praise and it shows in their panicked rebuttals.

  50. Carolind says:

Don’t tar everyone from the UK with the same brush. Remember we are also Scots, English, Irish and Welsh with different characteristics. My Scots parents were always welcoming to my English husband. Had him for meals, never sided with me against him. Maybe it was me but as the years passed his family were pretty nasty to me. They were great with our daughter after but didn’t come to see her until the christening when she was 3 months old. They lived 250 miles away and travelled a lot. Years before that my husband had quite a serious road accident necessitating an op on his face and having to wear a face frame for about 6 weeks. His brothers flew up by private plane (owned by the employers of one of them) the day after. They did not come again. His parents never came. I can understand his mother being upset at first but later…Husband and I could have done with their physical presence. Just his family? Typical of English – not British? I do not know.

  51. L4frimaire says:

What stood out to me was the palace communications complaining that nothing was never good enough for the couple and that they were negative. Maybe it was because their staff was leaking to tabloids and not refuting lies printed, as well as being openly disrespectful to Meghan. Just a thought. Also, I read that initially when Meghan came on, they saw no need to up their media and communications staff, which led to them being inundating requests from international press, which they were not prepared for and didn’t want to acknowledge. You know, maybe the Cambridge’s thought gritting their teeth and a meal or two was trying, but it seemed like they kept their guard up all the time, and eventually both couples gave up trying, especially if you felt you were being used to make the other couple look better. I don’t think the Sussexes are completely blameless either. Seems like at a certain point they didn’t want any advice from anyone but I’m not sure about that. It seems like the Cambridges saw no advantage to them in trying to be more welcoming, especially when everyone favors you and the line was you never put a foot wrong. Again, this shows insularity, a lack of cohesion and leadership within the family, with obsession with hierarchy taking precedent.

  52. anotherlily says:

The Middletons have the characteristics of an ‘enmeshed family’. There’s a lot of information around about this. The basic problem is with boundaries. Healthy boundaries help children to be individuals. Healthy boundaries change as a child grows to allow for appropriate privacy and independence, space to explore and to develop personal interests and beliefs etc. The result should be independent adults who are capable of making their own way in the world. In enmeshed families, boundaries are weak. There is over-sharing of personal information, experiences etc. They inhabit each others’ lives in a way that doesn’t allow children to fully separate and become independent adults. This is what has happened with all three of the Middleton offspring.

William thought the Middletons were normal which means the Cambridge home life will be enmeshed with the Middletons. They think very highly of themselves and would assume that any Christmas guest will be honoured to share their ‘perfect’ home and all their little family traditions. For people like this making space for anything different to accommodate a guest really is like putting the red carpet out. They don’t do difference and Meghan is totally different.
